  'She could be.' He looked at Vicki intently as his arms urged her back against the pillows. 'Maybe,' he added gently teasing, 'she might soon have two to look after?'

  Hiding her face against him, Vicki didn't shake her head, and when he lifted her chin to examine her flushed cheeks she couldn't deny it.

  'Never mind,' his voice was still soft, if slightly thicker, his hand gentle as he ran it over her shining hair, I've discovered you love me and the, rest will follow in due time. I want you to myself for a little while, .to teach you how to belong to me completely, as surely as I belong to you.'

  The afternoon sun dimmed as Vicki turned her mouth up to his with a sigh of surrender and undisguised longing. The wind outside was rising, but she was only conscious of the tall man beside her. Loving him dearly, she laced slender young arms around his neck, holding him ever closer. If this was happiness, at last, she could find no fault with it!
