I offer him a smile as he holds his hand out to me and pulls me up from my chair.

“Thank you everyone for your presence here.” Topher holds up his glass and we all cheers. I take a small sip and smile, then turn to Topher with him turning to me and we kiss chastely.

“But that’s not all.” Topher says, directing the attention back to him. “As soon as we started planning to have Thanksgiving here, I asked my mom to do me a favor.” He releases my hand and turns to face me as he pulls out a ring from his pocket. My breath hitches and my eyes go wide. “This ring belonged to my grandmother. When my grandparents got married, he proposed with a candy machine plastic ring. When my granddad started making some decent money, the first thing he did was go to the biggest jewelry store that he could find and bought this for her. Before they ever owned a property, or a car, he wanted to make sure that the ring on her finger was solid, just as solid as their love for one another. This ring represents to me hard work and love. We’ve got both in our relationship and I feel that we’ve got the same solid relationship that they had. Mila Rossi, would you do the honor of marrying me?”

I can’t speak. I’m too choked up. And when I open my mouth, instead of the words that I so desperately want to say—a choked cry comes out. But I nod my head excitedly with tears streaming down my face as Topher takes my hand and slips the ring on my finger. I look between the ring and Topher as our families stand and clap.

Topher kisses me and pulls back with a smile.

  “I love you,” he whispers.

  “I love you too.”

“By the way, your dad grilled me for an hour when I talked to him about marrying you. Like made me sweat and everything.”

  Acknowledgments

Where do I begin with this?

I think that writing in this world has been one of my most favorite experiences, because I got to explore another’s world. Thank you, Kristen Proby for letting me into this world and for how uplifting and supportive you are.

Thank you to my tribe, the Devil’s T, Becca, and Mary for in one way or another supporting me. Without being able to work through things and getting your opinions – I’m not entirely sure where I would be today.

To the Teases, thank you for getting the word out there and I can’t wait to bring more of my words to you.

And most of all, to the readers. Thank you for loving me and for asking for more.
