Rock Hard Prince Charming: A Royal Bad Boy Romance

I could see in her eyes that she wasn't joking about tanking his surgery though.. Good thing I took my job seriously. Too many vengeful ex-girlfriends and wives had hopped into my bed and had asked for something very similar.
But I only made their dreams come true in the bedroom, not in the operating room. I enjoyed the hell out of the sex with them, but not enough to jeopardize my career over it.
Tracy got up off me, her expression sour, the mood now ruined. She dressed quickly, putting on the dress she'd been wearing the night before.
“Will you do one thing for me at least?” she asked. “When you see Tyler, that is?”
“What's that?” I asked, pulling my boxers back in place and mentally apologizing to my aching balls in the process.
“Tell him Tracy sends her regards,” she said. “Oh, and remind him how good I am in bed.”
“Sure,” I said, chuckling as I kissed her goodbye.
Like hell I would pass along that message – but she didn't need to know that. I couldn't let the men know I was fucking their ex's before they went under my knife. It wouldn't be good for business. Besides, I wasn't petty enough for all that.
They were, after all, paying me very handsomely. And they were also the reason I had a revolving door of hot women coming and going from my apartment.
No way I was going to fuck that up. Not for Tracy. Not for anyone.

“Good morning, Lila,” I said, rushing into my office, coffee in hand.
But the moment I stepped into my private office, I knew something was different. There was a tension I sensed straight away. Sure, my receptionist, Lila, was there, as usual, but I then noticed that she wasn't alone.
A curvy brunette with the most intense green eyes I'd ever seen stared back at me. As if acting on reflex, my gaze moved down the length of her body, admiring her assets. She wore dress slacks and a button-up shirt, which didn't do her any favors, although, I could tell she had a marvelous figure, even underneath the business attire. Her chestnut colored hair was pulled back in a French twist with a few strands stylishly loose and framing her face. Thick framed glasses sat upon her nose, making her look intelligent. Serious. Almost like the sexy librarian many men fantasized about.
The woman stood up and reached for my hand. “Hi Dr. Pierce,” she said. “I'm Morgan Brooks.”
Morgan Brooks? Why did that name ring a bell?
Lila smiled at me, knowing me all too well, and said. “She's your new intern, Dr. Pierce.”
“Oh, yeah. Right. I'm sorry,” I said, taking her hand in mine. “I guess I wasn't expecting a woman, that's all.”
She raised an eyebrow at me, her expression saying she couldn't believe I'd just said that.
“Morgan can be a guy's name,” I said with a shrug. “And in this field, well, since we work with professional athletes, the field tends to be more male dominated. So, I apologize for the poor assumption on my part.”
Morgan smiled. “I understand, Dr. Pierce. I just want to thank you for the opportunity to train underneath you,” she said. “Orthopedic surgery – especially in regard to athletic injuries – has always been an area of interest of mine.”
“Oh really?” I asked.
She was a curvy girl with a nice hourglass figure. It was clear that she cared about her fitness, but I still wouldn’t have pegged her for a sports fan.
“Yes,” she said, seeming to sense my doubt. “My father was Theo Brooks,” she said. “Quarterback for the – ”
“I know who your father is,” I said. “Quarterback for the USC Trojans. Until he got injured, of course. Could have gone pro if not for that.”
“Exactly,” she said. “And it's always killed him too. It’s why I want to give other athletes the opportunity to follow their dreams.”
“Uh huh,” I said, turning to leave.
Morgan followed me into my office, continuing to yap about how excited she was to work for me and all the good she hoped to accomplish in the field. I knew her dear old had dad passed away about two years ago, so I wanted to have some compassion for the girl, I did. But truth be told, I really wasn't sure Little Miss Sunshine could handle working with the Neanderthals that made up my daily schedule.
These men didn't want some petite little flower operating on their torn ligaments. They wanted a fellow man. Somebody who understood them. No one wanted to look weak in front of an attractive woman like Morgan – especially not athletes who relied on their machismo as much as their natural athleticism to excel.
“Listen, Ms. Brooks,” I said with a sigh. “If that's meant to impress me, it's not going to do much good. I honestly couldn't care less who your father was or why you want to do this. The truth of the matter is, I see bigger and brighter stars in here every single day, with injuries surpassing your dad's. And let me tell you, it's not easy to do this job. So, if you think it's going to be all sunshine and rainbows and helping people's dreams come true, you're in the wrong field.”
That shut her up right away, her jaw nearly hitting the floor she looked at me. For a moment, I even thought she might cry. If so, that would be enough proof for me that she couldn't hack it in a field with the rough and tumble athletes that came into my office day in and day out. I waited for the tears to fall, but they never did.
“You listen, Dr. Pierce,” she said, her voice calmer than I expected, considering the fact that she was a woman. “I may be excited because it's my first day at an internship I worked very hard to get,but I'm not naïve; not by any stretch of the imagination. I’m damn good at what I do.”
She said all of this while standing tall and staring me right in the eyes. Day one and she was already standing up to me, showing me she wasn't going to take crap from anyone.
I had to admit, it just made her that much hotter.
CHAPTER TWO - MORGAN
I'd heard a lot about Dr. Gavin Pierce. He was the best of the best in the field, which was a plus. He also happened to be a raving misogynist, which was obviously a big minus. Others who'd interned for him had reported back, talked about the way he viewed women as little more than a conquest. I, for one, wasn't about to put up with that shit. I'd worked hard to get through medical school, to secure this internship. And no man was going to screw it up for me.
Not even Gavin Pierce.
I had to admit though, he was more attractive than I'd thought he’d be. Being in his late thirties or early forties, he had at least a decade on me. His old-fashioned mentality toward women and because the fact that he'd built up a reputation as a genius in his field, had me expecting someone older. Either way, it came as no surprise that he could lure attractive, young women into his bed. With his short-cut sandy blonde hair and blue eyes, he was the epitome of classic American sex appeal. Tall, built like an athlete himself, and confident as all get-out. He was catnip to many a pussy out there.
And yet, I already despised him.
“We're meeting with Tyler McAdams this morning,” he said, once we got past the awkwardness of him degrading me because of my gender. “Do you know who he is?”
I had to physically restrain myself from rolling my eyes. “Yes, of course,” I said. “I may be a woman, but I'm not an idiot.”
“Yeah, he is fairly popular with the women,” Gavin muttered.
“That's not why – I know who he is because I follow sports, Dr. Pierce,” I said. He shot me a cocky, half-grin and a shrug. “Are you familiar with his injury?”
He was testing me, so I shot him an equally cocky grin.
“I am. He tore his MCL,” I said. I continued on about what that meant, how it could impact his career as a winger for the Sharks, and the entire time, Dr. Pierce just stared at me, a condescending look on his face. It was as if he was expecting me to say something wrong, maybe even secretly hoping for it so he could swoop in and correct me, thus proving his point that women were inferior. And when I didn't get it wrong, he didn't even look impressed. He actually looked disappointed.
“Ver
y good, Ms. Brooks,” he said.
“Dr. Brooks,” I corrected him. “After all, I did graduate from med school. Same as you.”
I knew he was intentionally demeaning me – it wasn't a misstep to not call me by my title. It was a purposeful act, and he was enjoying this way too much. He even had the balls to look amused when I stood up for myself. I could already tell this was going to be one hell of an internship if he was going to disrespect me every step of the way.
“Yes, Dr. Brooks,” he said. “I'm sorry. I'm just not used to working with women.”
“Well get used to it,” I countered. “Because statistics show that many more women are entering this field these days. And I have a feeling I won't be the last woman to work underneath you.”
“Oh, you can count on that,” he muttered, obviously taking the last part of my sentence to mean something dirty .
Already, I could probably get him in trouble for sexual harassment and discrimination. If I could prove it anyway, that was. Considering his reputation in the field, a measly intern like myself wouldn't stand much of a chance going up against someone like him. And I had to face facts – he was the best of the best and I needed to learn from him, even if it meant being talked down to in the process. It was just one of those things I was going to have to learn to deal with.
Lila poked her head into the office and shot me a faint smile, obviously sensing the tension. “I'm sorry, Dr. Pierce and Dr. Brooks,” she said. It was nice to have someone refer to me by my proper title. “But Mr. McAdams is here. I thought you'd like to know.”
“Thanks, Lila,” he said. “We'll be right out.”
There was a moment of silence between the two of us. I stared off behind Gavin, not focusing on his granite cheekbones , but rather on the awards and photos behind him. He was photographed with some of the biggest names in the sports industry, many of whom, he'd helped at some point in his career.
He'd won prominent awards in general medicine and orthopedic medicine as well, all of which were displayed behind him along with the photographs. Those accomplishments made his resume incredibly impressive. I hoped to be able to look back and say I had a career like his one day.
“We shouldn't keep the patient waiting. Shall we?” he said, pushing away from his desk and walking toward the door. He held it open for me and I walked through without saying a word.
ooo000ooo
Tyler McAdams was larger than he looked on TV. I knew I'd be saying that a lot when it came to meeting professional athletes, but it never ceased to amaze me how much bigger they actually were in person. I wasn't about to be fangirling all over him, but he wasn't too hard on the eyes.
He was a ginger, which was one thing that set him apart from most of his teammates. And currently, he had a nice, reddish-brown beard going on as well that made him look scruffy and manly – and even more dreamy in the eyes of his female fans.
As soon as I walked in the room, his eyes fell on me and he smiled.
“Looks like you've brought a friend, Dr. Pierce,” he said, grinning at me.
“Uh yes, this is my intern, Ms – ”
“Dr. Brooks,” I said, reaching out and shaking Tyler's hand. “It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. McAdams.”
“Please, call me Ty,” he said with a wink. “All my friends do.”
“She's your doctor, not your friend,” Dr. Pierce growled. “Yes, sir,” Ty said dryly.
Gavin looked through the patient's file, acting as if I wasn't even there. “Your surgery is scheduled for next Monday. Do you have any questions, concerns, or anything else you'd like to bring up at this time?”
“I don't think so,” Ty said, shrugging. “I honestly don't know what to expect.”
Gavin closed the file and turned to his patient, still pretending to not see me.
“Not much to expect,” he said. “You'll go in early on Monday, be finished by the afternoon and then we will set up some physical therapy sessions to get you back up on your feet, skating like normal.”
“Is it really that easy?” Tyler asked, looking at both me and Gavin for answers.
“You have a grade three tear,” I said. “That means physical therapy and healing could take some time afterward. But this is an injury you should be able to come back from without too much of a problem.”
Gavin looked over at me as if surprised I was still in the room. “Yes, there will be some recovery time, but overall, this procedure is pretty cut and dry,” he said. “I suspect you'll be just fine.”
Gavin got up and started to exit the room, then looked back at Tyler and me. “Morgan, may I speak with you, please?”
“Shouldn't we finish up here first?” I asked.
“We are finished,” he said, looking over at Tyler. “Unless you have any more questions?”
The poor kid just looked terrified. I so badly wanted to stay and answer questions – questions he wanted to ask but now likely felt rushed to leave.
“Uh no, I don't think so,” he said.
“I figured. Like I said, it's an easy procedure,” Gavin said. “You’ll be in and out in no time. Nothing to worry about, kid. I've done this a thousand times. I could probably do yours blindfolded”
Gavin walked down the hallway, leaving me there. When he reached his office, he turned and looked back at me, an impatient expression upon his face.
Turning to Tyler, I said, “If you have any questions or concerns, you can call and ask for me,” I said. “He's right though. It is fairly straight-forward and you have the best surgeon you could ask for handling this, so there's really nothing to worry about.”
It was clear on his face that my words put him at ease. “Thanks, Dr. Brooks,” he said.
“Anytime.”
“Dr. Brooks?” Gavin called out to me again.
With an awkward grin, I walked out of the room and headed down the hallway, where judging by his posture and the expression, I could tell I was going to be in for it. Whatever I had done, I had apparently done it wrong.
CHAPTER THREE - GAVIN
“What were you doing back there?” I asked as soon as I sat down at my desk.
“What do you mean?”
She stared at me with those large, green eyes, and looked thoroughly confused. Not that I could blame her. I knew I was overreacting, but didn't really care. She needed to learn her place.
“It's your first day here, and this is a client I've been working with for months,” I said. “You waltzed in and tried to take over, which is not something I appreciate. Not at all. It undermines me. I don't like being cut off at the knees like that.”
“I didn't mean to undermine you,” she said. “He just looked scared. I wanted to make sure his questions were answered. That's all.”
“I had it under control,” I said.
“Sorry, it just looked like you were in a hurry and I – ”
“You thought you knew more than me about my own patient.”
Morgan crossed her arms in front of her chest and paced the room.
“Will you have a seat, please?” I asked.
She stopped pacing, but she didn't sit.
“Listen, Dr. Pierce, maybe I shouldn't have said anything, you're right. It's my first day. I'm sorry about that,” she said. “But you couldn’t even be bothered to answer his questions or try to make him a little less nervous. I mean, the guy is going under the knife the next time you see him. He was scared and I wanted to help ease his concerns – like a doctor should.”
“We'd already been over everything before, several times,” I said. “This was just a routine checkup, and had you not swooped in, I would have spent more time with him. But I was just so angry – ”
“And that's an excuse?” she said, biting her lip and staring down at me with an irritated look on her face. “You're a professional. You're a surgeon, one of the best in the field. If a woman being in the room with you, engaging with your patient, is going to be enough to throw you off your game, I seriously underestimated your abilities,
Dr. Pierce.”
“Please leave,” I said.
She didn't hesitate. “You don't have to ask me twice.”
Morgan turned and left my office. She didn't slam the door or throw a fit, she merely walked out with her head held high and her tight little ass swishing as she walked. Damn, why did she have to be so sexy? No, she didn't deserve all that I'd just laid on her, but she was a distraction. It was hard to focus with someone so attractive in the room. And knowing that much, I knew that there was no way I could handle performing surgery with her nearby.
Yes, I handled my last appointment with Tyler McAdams poorly, but had Morgan not been there, everything would have been fine. That was why I didn't hire attractive women to work for me in the first place. Even Lila, as sweet as she was, was older than me and more like a mother than a potential date. I never had to worry about her distracting me. That relationship worked.
But Morgan Brooks – well, having her around would be a problem.
It was probably a good idea that she quit and let me be, honestly.
As shitty as that sounded, it was probably for the best.
ooo000ooo
Lila poked her head in my office a few minutes later.
“Where did Dr. Brooks run off to?” she asked.
“Hell if I know,” I said with a shrug.
“Do you know when she will be back?”
I shrugged. “Maybe never?”
“Well, that would be a shame,” Lila said, shaking her head. “Because Tyler McAdams is asking for her.”
“Of course he is,” I muttered under my breath. “Send him in.”
Lila nodded and went on her way like the obedient employee she was. A few seconds later, there was a knock on my door and in stepped Tyler McAdams, hobbling along on his crutches.
“Where's Dr. Brooks?” he asked.
“She stepped out,” I lied. “Have a seat.”
“I was really hoping I could speak to – ”
“I'm sorry, she's not here right now,” I said, massaging my temples – a headache was coming on from dealing with it all. Just fucking great. “I may not be as pretty as she is, but I promise, I have more experience and knowledge of medicine than she does. If you have any questions, I can answer them for you.”
