“Now it’s present time!” Linda announced.
“Oh, I didn’t know we were exchanging gifts!” Sammy exclaimed, feeling embarrassed.
“Well, we aren’t. But the three of us wanted to get you a little something to thank you for everything you’ve done for us.” Viola winked as she picked up a large box from under the tree and handed it to Sammy.
It was heavy, and she pulled away the ribbon with shaking fingers. Inside was an item that looked something like a bucket with a lid that clamped down over the top. “A vintage pudding mold! How wonderful!” Sammy laughed. “After the fundraiser, I hadn’t thought I would make another pudding again. But now I’ll have to.”
Later that afternoon, when Sammy finally went home for the night with the pudding mold riding safely on the passenger floorboard, she looked up at the star shining brightly in the deep blue December sky. “Thank you, God, for bringing these ladies to me. I couldn’t have asked for a better gift.”
