“Sure, thanks.”
It was after a full minute that the phone was lifted and Megan’s voice came on, “Please don’t call me at work,” she stated, there was a hint of irritation in her voice.
“Can I see you after work then?” Rob persisted.
“Sorry, I don’t have time to spare. Bye,” the phone went dead before Rob could reply.
This is unacceptable, Rob combed his hair with his fingers in exasperation. Why was she playing hard to get?
All Rob could think of during the day was Megan, and even during the night, he dreamt of her. I’m bewitched, he concluded.
After their regular practice that weekend, Rob invited his friends again to a wild party of women and cripples. In barely an hour, the room smelled of weed and reeked of alcohol. The five men; Rob, Mark, Ted, Lance and Lex invited a group of gorgeous ladies from one of the high-class modelling agencies in the city.
“What’s up, man?” Lance thumped Rob’s back. “You’ve been brooding all night.”
Rob was in one corner of the room, alone, with a roll of marijuana and a glass of wine. He had kept shooing away the women who had dared approach him.
“Nothing,” Rob retorted, irked.
“C’mon, what are friends for?”
“Just leave me alone.”
From the other end of the room, Mark was humping the Swedish model, his body glistening with sweat and his face contorted with passion. The sound of flesh rubbing against flesh echoed as Lance and his partner copulated noisily, their naked bodies joined at the hips.
Lex was ‘eating’ his partner’s pussy, the slurping sound of his tongue, buried deep in her slit, filled the room. Soon he was banging her against the wall, the woman’s body rattled against the wooden partition as his pace increased. He pumped in and out of her, the squelching sound of his rock-hard dong penetrated her tight slit - mercilessly - until she cried for more.
“Oooooh, God, I’m cumming,” the woman screamed and juddered, as her climax exploded and millions of pleasure points mushroomed in her body.
Mark climaxed first before her partner. Disappointed, the three women brought him back to life once more. and Mark went back and forth alternately banging the three of them, one after the other, as they stayed on all fours on the floor.
Rob looked on with glazed eyes. Apparently, he was not ‘seeing’ the sensual scene before him.
“Rob, c’mon, let’s party,” Lance prodded him. “What’s wrong? Tell me.”
“I don’t know... I can’t forget her,” Rob finally disclosed to Lance.
“Who’s she?”
“Megan.”
“Megan who?”
“That girl from the pink box.”
Lance tried to recall any Megan their group knew about but he was unable to.
“Remember the victory party we had? That girl,” Rob explained to Lance.
“Oh, THAT girl,” Lance’s face brightened with comprehension. “Well, she’s pretty, but she’s too uptight for me.”
“I can’t get her out of my mind,” Rob sighed resignedly.
“Don’t tell me the playboy has finally fallen in love,” Lance declared in incredulity.
“Hey, don’t make bold pronouncements yet. It may be because she plays hard to get,” Rob was in denial.
“Okay, fine, if that’s what you say,” Lance nodded, “but that’s no reason for you to isolate yourself,” he hauled Rob to his feet and pushed him into the center of the group of naked women, who were playing with their own nubile bodies. “Get into the action and forget about her.”
Chapter 6: The Prelude
The Eagles team had one more game to play that season, so they were on a tight practice schedule. Rob had faltered several times during the game.
“What’s wrong with you, Thomas?” the coach, Roldan Simons, scowled at Rob.
They were in the locker room, and the team’s game practice was just finished with Rob not being able to score a touchdown.
“Sorry, coach.”
‘He’s in love coach,” Lance whispered to the coach’s ear.
“WHAT?”
“Just kidding,” Lance laughed softly and ran out of the room.
The coach observed Rob with wary eyes. “Is it true?”
“How the hell would I know?” Rob half-yelled at the coach. His stress point was almost triggered.
Rob expected the coach to blow his top, but the coach rumbled with mirth instead.
“Ha, ha, ha, my boy has finally matured,” he placed an arm around Rob. “You must solve your dilemma or we’ll gonna lose our last game.”
Rob’s facial expression softened, “What would I do, coach? I can’t get her out of my mind. It’s driving me crazy.”
“Let’s go to my place and have some beer,” the coach led Rob out into the open.
Over a few bottles of beer, Rob revealed to his coach how he had pursued Megan, without any success.
“She’s simply not interested,” Rob whined.
“If that’s the case, just let her go. There are throngs of women running after you,” the coach advised him.
“I tried, coach, but that didn’t work.”
“Do you want me to help?”
“No, no, I want to do it on my own. You’d be my last resort.”
“Fine, suit yourself,” the coach agreed with his decision.
That afternoon, Rob went over to the food outlet again. He waited until Megan was free to serve before he ordered his food. Megan showed no indication that she knew him.
“The same order, please,” Rob smiled amiably at her.
“Orange juice and salad, thousand island dressing,” she murmured, refusing to meet his eyes.
“Yes, please.” Perhaps she was embarrassed about the party? Rob thought.
Rob’s food arrived; it was delivered by one of the waiters.
“Where’s Megan?” Rob asked the waiter in surprise.
“She took a break,” the waiter grinned at him.
Was the waiter secretly laughing at him? Rob wondered. He felt like an idiot, groveling at Megan’s feet, waiting for bread crumbs. What the heck, he decided to call it quits. He left his food untouched and walked out of the resto.
Rob’s chest felt heavy. His eyes widened when he saw Megan standing outside the store, seemingly taking a break. His breath got caught in his throat and there were butterflies in his stomach.
Megan didn’t notice him. She was staring at a flurry kitten meowing at the side of the road.
“Poor thing,” Rob heard Megan say. “Are you sick?”
Megan ambled towards the kitten with the purpose of capturing it. She was looking intently at the kitten that she didn’t notice a speeding car entering the driveway.
“Watch out!” Rob yelled at her. With incredible speed, he ran towards her and dragged her away from harm’s way.
They collapsed in a heap on the cold granite.
Rob’s arm was around Megan and this cushioned her head from hitting the hard pavement. Megan’s face was pale with fright. She opened her eyes and she came face to face with Rob; his lips a few inches away from hers. The whiff of his fresh-smelling breath had wrapped enticingly all over Megan’s nose. It made her heady, and the petals between her legs became moist.
“Oh,” she exclaimed, becoming aware of their proximity. She pushed Rob away.
Rob had felt Megan’s soft, big breasts crushed between their bodies. His dong had responded swiftly and a growing erection sprang underneath his pants. He straightened his polo shirt to hide it.
Chapter 7: A Leap of Faith
They dusted themselves uncomfortably. Megan was embarrassed to look directly at Rob. Rob scanned the area for the car, but it was nowhere to be found.
“That bastard,” Rob cursed the unknown driver under his breath.
“Thank you,” Megan uttered shyly.
The heavens must have seen him suffering and had given this golden opportunity to him, Rob thought.
“Don’t men
tion it,” he flashed his killer smile at her, exposing his charming dimples.
“I’ll have to go back in, my break time is over,” Megan offered him a timid smile.
Was she genuinely shy? Or was it her strategy to hook him up? Rob was perplexed. She had been bold and oozing with sex appeal during his party. Jekyll and Hyde?
“Can I see you after work?” Rob didn’t want to miss his chance.
Megan paused for a while and said more boldly: “You don’t really give up, do you?”
“Persistence is my second name,” Rob winked at her.
“It’s up to you,” Megan smiled faintly, and ran back in.
Rob waited in his car for almost an hour for Megan. She finally emerged from the resto at five thirty. He sprinted eagerly towards her.
“Where do you want to go?” Rob asked Megan, catching his breath.
“You mean we’re going out?” her voice sounded incredulous.
“Yeah, I had hoped so.”
“I barely know you,” Megan protested.
“Then, can we just talk someplace? Someplace where I can get to know you better.’
Megan thought for some minutes.
“Let’s go back in,” she said matter-of-factly.
They went back in to the resto and Rob ordered drinks.
“Do you want something to eat?”
“I’m full just smelling all these,” Megan indicated the food displayed inside the shelves. “Now, what do you want to know about me?” Megan asked Rob, her initial coyness gradually vanishing.
“To begin with, I’m Rob Thomas, one of the quarterbacks of the Eagles,” he was tempted to add “the most popular”, but he didn’t want to appear boastful. Megan was utterly different from the number of women he had met before; he had to tread carefully.
“I know,” Megan said softly, “the most popular quarterback this season.” She held his eyes. “I’m Megan Walker. I’m a waitress and there’s nothing special about me.”
“You’re special to me,” Rob was unable to hide his feelings any longer. He wasn’t sure if he was truly in-love. All he knew was that, at that precise moment, his declaration was true.
“I guess only time will tell,” Megan countered.
For all her bashfulness, Rob knew she had a good head on her shoulders. “Can I have your number?” he requested, handing her his cell phone.
Megan typed her number slowly.
“Don’t worry, I won’t give it to anyone,” Rob’s smile was infectious. He dialed her number, and Megan’s cell phone rang, “that’s my number, please save it.”
Megan did as instructed; “So, are we done?” she inquired politely.
“We’ve barely talked,” Rob pleaded, his eyes sparkling with anticipation. “Do you watch football?”
“Yes, whenever I’m free. But I like basketball more.”
“Who’s your favourite player?” Rob asked, trying to let her stay longer.
“Lebron, he’s simply awesome. Did you watch the championship game between the Warriors and the Cavaliers?” Megan had begun to feel comfortable with Rob.
“Yup, LeBron James, indeed, was the man of the hour.”
“I like Stephen Curry too, but he fell short of my expectations this season,” Megan stated as an afterthought.
“Don’t you have a favourite football player?” Rob wanted her to say ‘you’.
“Uhm…I haven’t watched that many games this season, so I can’t say.”
Rob fell silent, his ego squashed underneath her feet.
Chapter 8: The Dilemma
Megan rested a hand on his forearm, “No offense meant,” she murmured. “But you did well for your team in the latest game. However, I have to watch more games to decide.”
“No, It’s okay. At least, you’re honest,” Rob covered her hand with his. A sensation of a thousand needle pricks ran from her hand to his, and then slowly permeated every cell in his body.
Megan withdrew her hand and stood up. “I’ve got to get going.”
“Let me take you home,” Rob offered, his heart beating fast. At least, he was able to get her number.
“I’m going to my evening class.”
“Evening class? You’re studying?”
“Yeah.”
“What course?”
“It’s my secret.”
“Then let me take you there,” Rob held her elbow firmly and guided her to his car.
Megan had no chance to refuse.
“Where to?” Rob was palpably thrilled.
“Sienna College, please.”
“What time will you be dismissed?”
“Ten,” Megan replied. “But please don’t fetch me.”
“Why not?”
“Someone will be taking me home,” she responded.
Rob grew despondent again, visualizing a handsome male escorting Megan home. He wanted to ask her if she had a boyfriend but he didn’t want to scare her. He knew that she was fragile as glass and any wrong move on his part might break their delicate bond. He had to slow down.
Rob remained silent as he drove her to Sienna College - a 15-minute drive from where they were.
Megan jumped off from the car and raced towards the school’s gate as the 7 p.m. clock rang. “See you around,” she shouted, waving her hand up in the air.
Rob tried calling Megan after 10 p.m. but her phone was unattended. He showered and watched TV, but his mind was somewhere else. He was thinking about Megan, her charming smile, her soulful eyes and her melodious voice. The Megan ‘disease’ within him had begun to engulf his whole being.
Rob called Megan again at 11 p.m. but her phone was already turned off. Was she avoiding me? The thought stabbed his heart painfully. It was almost physical that he clutched his chest in agony.
He had a string of affairs with women in the past but he was merely playing the field. The pot sessions with his friends had also exposed him to various sexy women but no one had genuinely interested him.
Was someone up there punishing me? Rob pondered.
He drifted off to sleep at 1 a.m., his thoughts still on Megan.
Chapter 9: The Stakeout
“You’re not coming?” Mark asked Rob.
“No, sorry.”
“Okay, but be sure to attend next time.”
It was the monthly get-together of the Eagles team at the coach’s house, but Rob had no compulsion to attend. He was lethargic and love sick for Megan. He had planned to fetch Megan from school that night.
It was exactly 10 p.m. when Rob arrived at the parking lot of Megan’s school. Patiently, he waited for Megan at the gate, hoping she would be in a good mood. However, the problem was not Megan’s mood but something else – a tall, dark and handsome man dragged Megan away before Rob could even make his move. Rob didn’t notice the man because he had been concealed by the guard’s post.
“How long have you been waiting?” Rob heard Megan asked the man.
“Just a few minutes, don’t worry,” he said, clasping Megan’s hand securely.
This was the boyfriend Megan was talking about. Rob hid himself as they passed by. Who is he? Rob was curious.
The elated voices of the couple faded in the distance.
Rob emerged from his hiding place feeling depressed and lonely. He had never been so miserable like he felt at that moment.
He dialed Megan’s number.
To his surprise, she took his call, “Hello?”
“Meg, Rob here,”
“Is there any problem?” Megan’s voice grew somber.
“Can I see you later? I miss you.”
“Sorry, that’s not possible. I’m with my boyfriend now and I don’t think it’s proper to meet you, knowing your intentions,” she blurted her revelation smoothly that Rob felt the wrenching punch to his gut in one gigantic blow.
OUCH! That hurt a lot. Rob thumped his chest, repeatedly, to let the agonizing blow settle down.
“Let me ...,” Rob wanted to ask Megan to meet him for a few minut
es, but the line went dead.
He must have been a fool to presume his one one act of kindness could put him in Megan’s good graces. I’m a fool! Rob thought.
All the same, Rob began staking out Megan’s workplace and school, hiding behind the shadows. He didn’t have the chance to be with her, however, because her boyfriend had fenced her in – he was always there beside Megan.
Rob’s practice games began to suffer. He could barely function properly.
“What’s wrong with you? Still having the same problem?” the coach asked him, worried.
“Yes, coach,” Rob’s eyes were bleary.
“We’re fifteen days away from the championship game, Thomas. You’ve got to shape up,” the coach shook Rob’s shoulders vigorously.
“I’m trying hard, coach.”
Chapter 10: Reaching Out
“Guys, is there any chance that we can invite Megan to our party again?” Rob was clutching at straws in his attempt to meet Megan anew.
“You mean Miss pink box?” Mark asked.
“Yeah.”
“No idea. I had invited her through a friend,” Mark cast a questioning glance at Rob. “Don’t tell me, you’re still not over her,” he queried.
“I’m bewitched, guys,” Rob admitted unashamedly.
“You’re only challenged because no one had ever rejected you before,” Lex cut in.
“You’ll get over her next week. Hopefully, before our final game,” Lance concluded.
However, as days dragged on, Rob had sunk deeper and deeper into the quagmire of his own depression.
The team tried everything to cheer him up, but it was useless; he appeared a zombie from another world. Eventually, he stopped attending practice altogether, and merely stayed in his flat drowning himself in alcohol.
“Coach, do something before it’s too late,” Mark confronted the coach after their workouts.
“Perhaps, we can invite the girl again to our party,” Lex suggested.
“I don’t think she’ll accept because we now know her identity,” Mark stated.
“Do you know her number?” the coach asked Mark.
