Protecting Siena
Page 15
She whimpers out in pain again and the doctor looks up with a frown. My eyes meet his and he doesn’t even try to hide the expression. “We need to clear the room. Sorry son, but that means you, too. We need to do an emergency cesarean. Someone will come get you when the baby is out.” Siena looks up at me with wide eyes, and begs me not to leave her.
“I’m not leaving!” I demand. Someone comes behind me and forces me to let her go just as a nurse puts a mask over her face. The doctor starts to get things ready, and my stomach drops. The guy forces me out of the room, and shuts the door behind us. “You have to let me in there. I can’t fucking lose her.”
He looks sympathetic for a second, but his expression changes quickly. “I’m sorry, but they need you to stay out here. It’s best for both your wife and your child.”
I finally give in when I listen to his words. He leads me back to the waiting room and I see Gully sitting in one of the chairs against the wall. When Gully looks up, he has a shocked expression, but it changes quickly.
“Everything okay?” He asks hesitantly.
Running my hands over my face, I take a seat in the chair and my head hits the wall behind me.
“Something was wrong. They had to do an emergency something or other. What if they don’t make it through this?” My voice breaks, and for the first time in a long time I’m scared at the possibility of losing someone.
“They are both going to be fine.” Gully moves and takes the chair next to me putting his head against the wall, too. He doesn’t say anything else, but in reality he doesn’t need to. Just having him here with me makes me feel a little less alone as I wait for any news about the two most important things in my life.
After what seemed like the longest fucking time in my life, the doctor finally comes in the waiting room. When I stand up, he has a grim look on his face and my heart drops into my stomach. Closing my eyes, I run my hands up and down my face.
“There were some complications.” When he goes to say something else, I fucking lose it. I punch the wall as hard as I can and I watch as the sheetrock breaks under my fist, falling onto the ground around my feet. Gully gets up and tries to pull me back, but I don’t need his words. I already know what the doctor is going to say.
I lost them.
I don’t even bother to wait for him to say the words, instead I run past him and towards the room they kicked me out of. My head is pounding and I know that when I walk in that room, everything is going to change. I’m going to lose the only thing I have left, and it makes me sick to my stomach. When I get to the room I stop in the doorway, and I see her looking down at the baby in her arms.
My feet move without me even trying and when I get to the bed she looks up at me with a tired expression. Her face is pale, and she gives me a small smile.
“I thought…” I trail off as I look at her face. She’s fucking beautiful even when she looks like a mess. Moving the hair out of her face, I press a kiss to her forehead and look down at the baby she’s holding.
“You thought what?” She asks, her eyes scanning my face.
“The doc said there were some complications. I thought…” I can’t bring myself to say the words. Tears start to form in her eyes, and she looks down at the baby in her arms again.
“Meet our son.” Hearing the words takes my breath away, and I can’t help but let the tear slip from my eyes.
“Son.” I murmur. I don’t know maybe saying the word son would make this all seem more real. Kissing the top of her head, I pull her closer to me. She buries her face in my neck and I hold her tightly.
She offers him to me and I can’t help but grin as she places him in my arms. I watch his little lips move and he kicks his legs a bit before he falls back asleep in my arms. The door to the room opens and I see the doctor come in, followed by Gully.
“If you would have let me finish, I would have told you that they were both okay.” He grins. Looking at the doc, I can’t help but laugh.
“I guess so, but with the way my life has been, I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see it for myself.” The doc nods and starts to make some notes on a chart before he walks back out of the room, leaving us to stare at the little man in my arms.
“He’s beautiful, guys.” Gully says from a few feet away. Siena looks up at him and I can see the glow on her face.
“That he is.” She runs the tip on her finger gently down his cheek, and she puts her head back on my shoulder.
“I love you, Siena.” I whisper. Her hand moves to my arm and she gives it a squeeze.
“I love you, too.” She yawns.
Before I know it, she’s asleep, and to be honest, I’m not ready to leave her side. I know I have some shit that I need to handle with Gully, but leaving her alone right now isn’t going to happen.
“What do you want me to do?” Gully asks when he sees that she’s asleep.
“He still alive?”
“Yeah. I have him hidden from the nosey ass fucking people in this town.” He groans. “I swear they want to know every fucking thing.”
I watch him take a seat in the chair by the door, and I shake my head at him. Looking down at the little boy in my arms, I know that I will do anything and everything in my power to make sure him and his mom are okay. I won’t let her brother touch them.
“I want him to tell Evan where we are. Well not here, but where the cabin is that Siena was hiding in when we came back. I’ll let him think he found us, and I’ll strike before he gets the chance.”
“You’re committing suicide by fucking doing this.” He grits out. He points to Siena, and I know he’s going to try and use her against me in my decision. “Once you’re gone, they are going to find her, force her back into this life, and make her marry that fucking prick Tony.” I watch him as his face turns red with anger, and I swear for the first time he’s become a version of me.
“I won’t be gone. I’m never leaving them.” My fingertip runs along his cute little nose, and I can’t help but grin. I feel Siena move beside me and when I look down at her, I see that her eyes are open.
“Evan is after us?” Her voice is hoarse and sounds choked up.
Looking down at her, I hand our son over to her. She takes him with a smile, and presses a soft kiss to his forehead. “He isn’t going to touch either of you. I will make sure of that.” She sucks in a breath, and I can see the tears as they well up in her eyes.
“He can’t get him.” She whispers. I know she heard the whole conversation. I want to prove to her that I would never let anyone touch either of them, but I know it’s hard to believe that it won’t happen.
Grabbing my phone, I send a text to a friend and ask for some help. I didn’t want to have to bring them into it, but I won’t let Siena be afraid.
Me: I need help
Dom: What do you need?
Me: I’ll call you.
Getting off the bed, I kiss Siena’s forehead and run my fingers on his little head. Gully follows me as I make my way out of the room, and I can hear Siena sniffle. She’s trying to be strong for me and I know it’s hard for her. She’s already lost her father and I might have to take her brother out, too. She’s never going to forgive me for what I have to do to make sure they are both protected.
Dialing the number I never wanted to use again, I wait for Dom to answer. “Yeah?’ He grunts over the line.
“Her brother is after us. I need help getting them off my back.” I hear his chuckle and as much as I don’t want to get shit from him, I just let it go.
“You mean her old man doesn’t give a shit what you did?” He finally says.
“Kinda hard when you’re six feet below.”
“You’re shitting me?” He sounds surprised.
“Either him or me. I wasn’t taking the chance.”
“Shit.” He mutters. “Where you at?”
“California.” I look at Gully and he is watching the hallway. His eyes never stop scanning and I know that he thinks that at any moment, s
omeone is going to come out and try something.
“I got a club out there. Let me make some calls. I can get protection for you and your girl through our charter down there. You need a safe place for her, the clubhouse is about as safe as you can get.”
“Thanks man. I owe you one.” I breathe a sigh of relief into the phone.
“I’ll let you know when I get everything settled for you guys.”
Before he goes, I tell him how many of us there really are. “She just gave birth today. I also have my friend Gully with me.”
“Fuck, you got her knocked up, too?” He starts to chuckle again, but I don’t give a shit. She’s my family, and so is that little boy.
“Yeah. Kinda the reason I took her away from that life. Well besides her father was going to still marry her off to his right hand man.”
“God, you're fucking lucky you haven’t been fucking shot dead already.”
“Yeah I know. I won’t go down without a fight. I won’t let my son grow up without me.” I run my hand through my hair and look over at Gully. He has a sad expression on his face and I can’t shake the feeling that something is going to happen.
“I’ll hit you back when I get some info for you. Who took it over?”
“Evan. Her brother.” I hear him curse under his breath. Maybe he is scarier than Xavier is. Fuck. I know that he has a damn temper, but he can’t be too much for me to handle.
He hangs up, and I pocket my phone. “Why does everyone seem fucking scared of this fucking brother of hers?” I ask Gully. At first he doesn’t say anything, and I can only imagine what’s running through his head right now.
“He’s been slowly taking over the family business, trying to push his father out of the chair. You probably helped move his plan up. Not really sure why he wants you dead when you ended up helping him get what he wanted.” That doesn’t make fucking sense. If he wanted the business, then why in the fuck does he want me dead?
We make our way back into the room, and a nurse comes in a few minutes later and takes our son to the nursery so that Siena can get some rest. Sitting on the bed beside her, she curls her body into my side and wraps her arms around my waist.
The room is quiet, too quiet. “He needs a name.” she whispers.
“What were you thinking?” I ask running my fingers down the side of her face.
“Nixon.”
“Nixon, what?” She looks up at me, and I can see a little bit of the mischief that I love so much about her shine in her eyes.
“Nixon Michael Hyland.” Grabbing her face, I pull her mouth to mine and kiss her. She knew what reaction she would get by using my middle and last name. She was afraid that she didn’t know me that well when we moved here, but she knows me better than anyone else will.
Gully excuses himself as I claim her mouth. Everything about her is so damn perfect that I can’t even believe that she’s mine.
When we finally break apart, she’s panting. The fire in her eyes is burning bright, but we have a lot of other things to worry about, and plus, she just had a baby. My hand slides down her body, and when I come in contact to her stomach, she winces. There is no way I’ll be letting her do anything while she is still in pain.
“We need to talk about what’s going to be happening.” She frowns, and I know that she would rather talk about anything but that.
“I overheard you when you were on the phone.” I look into her eyes, and she looks like she might cry.
“Why is everyone so scared of your brother? I know he has a temper and I know choked you before I came to get you, but this shit doesn’t really make sense.” I move the hair out of her face and she sucks in a breath.
“He’s always been a little off. He’s angry most of the time, and that’s probably why you never met him. He’s been killing things since we were kids. When we were with daddy out of town, he threatened to kill me. Daddy flipped out, and told him that if he so much as touched a hair on my head, then he was done. I think daddy was going to kill him himself if he had to. I was scared for Evan. But even with his temper, I still loved him. He’s my big brother and I would do anything for him if he asked.” Her voice breaks and she looks away from me.
The tears start to slip down her face, and I know that there is something she isn’t telling me. “What did he do?” I can hear the nervousness in my voice and I just hope that she doesn’t hear it.
“When they found out I was pregnant, he took off. We didn’t hear from him for a few days. That’s the real reason we stayed longer. Daddy didn’t want to leave him behind. God knows what he would have done without us there still. Daddy used his contacts to find him, and then part of his crazy plan was uncovered.”
Clenching and unclenching my fist, I try to keep my calm. When she continues, I can see the hurt flash across her features.
“Once we got him home, he followed me into the bathroom one night and he pushed me up against the wall. He had his hand on my throat and I was seriously scared for my life.” Her body shivers as she remembers what happened, and her hands grip mine.
“He was angry that I let you fuck me. He was angry that we didn’t use protection. He threatened to kill me if I didn’t get rid of the baby. I had never seen him that angry, and for a second, I just wanted him to kill me instead. I would have never done that. The baby was part of you, and if I didn’t get to have you, at least I would have him.”
Tears start to trickle down her face and I can only see red. I’m going to kill that bastard. Wiping the tears from her eyes, I have my mind made up. I don’t give a fuck what I have to do, I will make sure to kill him fucking slowly.
The next few weeks pass quickly and the ball is rolling with the Wayward Saints. Dom has his club out here on protection detail, and I can tell that they aren’t too thrilled with it. My phone rings and when I look down, I see his name on my screen.
“What do you got for me?” I ask when I answer it.
“My guys are on their way to you. Stay with them and they will protect you. Keep Siena and the baby out of sight. I got word from a friend that Evan is closing in on you.” Walking away from where Siena and the baby are, I try to calm the fuck down. I want to kill that bastard so damn bad right now. He will regret ever fucking touching her. His threats are real I’m sure, but she means more to me than anything, and I’ll fight like hell to keep both her and Nixon safe.
“I’ll be ready for that fucking prick. He comes near her, and I won’t think twice about pulling the trigger.” I growl.
Dom and I have become pretty damn good friends since everything started and, to be honest, I’m just glad to have him on my side. He’s a scary fucker if you get on the wrong side of him. He was in town for a few days last week, and let’s just say that he doesn’t give a fuck who he pisses off. He protects women, and that’s something I respect.
“Good. Keep the anger, you’re gonna need it.” He hangs up and I hear the engines of a few Harley’s coming. Siena comes walking into the room, and she looks nervous. She has Nixon in her arms and I lead her back out of the room without saying a word.
“Sloane?” She asks quietly. It’s almost like she’s afraid of what’s going to happen.
“Baby, everything is fine. They’re here to get us the fuck out of here.” She nods her head, and rushes to put Nixon in his car seat. Her phone starts to ring and judging by the look on her face, it isn’t someone she wants to talk to. She comes back over to me and shows me the screen. I recognize the number, but I can’t place who it belongs to.
“Answer it, and put it on speaker.” I pull her into my body and she relaxes a fraction.
“Hello?” Her voice is strained and I can only imagine who is going to be on the other end of the line.
“Where the fuck is he?” Siena looks up at me and I urge her to talk to him.
“What are you talking about?” Her voice is hesitant and her hands grip my arm.
“Where the hell is that fucking bastard that knocked you up? Him and I have some things we ne
ed to work out.”
“Why?”
“Because that fucker took out our old man before I could get all the accounts. Now I’m out the fucking money I planned on taking. You don’t turn him over, and I’ll come after you and that bastard child of yours. See you soon little sister.” He sneers before he disconnects the line.
Siena looks at me with a stunned expression. Pulling her into my chest, I feel her sharp intake of breath. Gully comes into the room with one of the bikers from the Wayward Saints, and he gives me a questioning glance. I shake my head and hold Siena until Nixon starts to cry. She releases her grip on me and wipes her eyes as she walks past the men and back into Nixon’s bedroom.
“That was Evan. He wants me.” Gully looks at me like already knows what I’m going to say. Hell he probably does.
“That’s a bad fucking idea.” The biker says looking back at the door Siena went through.
“Keep your eyes off her.” I growl. He turns back to me and shrugs. “We need to get her and Nixon to safety. Dom said to keep them both out of sight and judging by the phone call, Evan is on his way to us already.”
Gully nods, and I make my way out of the room and into Nixon’s bedroom. I see Siena grabbing clothes and shoving them in a bag. Walking over to her, I wrap my arms around her and pull her back into my chest. “I won’t let anything happen to either of you.”
The tension from her body dissipates and she melts into my embrace. I know she’s scared about what her brother might do, but I sure as hell ain’t letting him get close enough to even see her or our son.
I hold her just like that until Gully comes into the room telling us we need to move.
The whole fucking drive was shitty. There was tension filling the whole damn car and I wanted to fucking break it, but I couldn’t. The only way that Siena is ever going to feel safe again is if the threat is eliminated. I know what I have to do, and I’ll be damned if I feel bad about taking this sick fuck out.
There are bikes all around us as Gully eases the car onto the highway towards the Saints clubhouse. Watching the mirrors, I grab my gun from the back of my jeans and set it on my lap. The drive is quiet for the most part and I can’t wait to get them to safety. If Evan wants a war, I’ll give him one.
