“I swear it’s the real deal, man.” Brom yanked a struggling and blubbering Bellamy into the hallway. His second in command forced the man to kneel at Na’varr’s feet and the pirate captain pointed his blade at the man’s black heart.
“Listen, Na’varr, I know who you are for real, okay? You’re a prince. This guy is your hybrid. You’ve got some princess you’ve kidnapped. I know everything, but I won’t tell anyone. I swear.”
“Mostly truth.” Brom stepped back from Bellamy and trained his pistol on the bastard’s head. “Move and they’ll have to redecorate your hall in brain-matter-gray. What the fuck did you give him?”
Bellamy gulped. “Okay, my plan was to blackmail you, okay? The drug I gave you is called Sugar. It’s something we give our clients to loosen them up if they’re nervous. Completely legal here. Check the chemical possessions lists. I ain’t doin’ anything wrong.”
“Except for that whole using it to blackmail your clients thing.” Brom pressed the barrel of his blaster against the back of Bellamy’s head and the man shut his eyes in abject terror. “If we checked, I’m sure we’d find the dosage you gave Na’varr to be well outside the recommended dosage.” The hybrid smirked. “What would your government think of your operation if they realized you’d tried to poison a Prince of the Andovian Republic?”
“It wasn’t poison,” Bellamy gasped out.
Slow understanding made its way through Na’varr’s brain. “Blackmail is how you got your android.”
Bellamy nodded in desperation, his watery stare annoying to behold. “Yes.”
“Too bad about her head, though.” Brom smirked behind the man and put his weapon away.
“Her head?” Bellamy turned his body toward Brom and Na’varr put the point of the laz blade on the asshole’s chin. The sizzle of flesh hit at the same time Bellamy screamed and jerked away.
“Sorry, my hand is a bit unsteady after your little prank.” Na’varr glanced at his hybrid. “Hold him. I’d keep your head up, Bellamy, or my blade will taste your flesh again. Trust me, it’s hungry for your blood.”
Bellamy made a strangled cry in his throat, and Brom gripped the little weasel’s shoulders, keeping him in a kneeling position. Na’varr got down on his level and smirked at the stench of fear. “Remind me. You were going to take me and put me in a compromising situation for what purpose?” The blade hovered close, it’s specially tempered surface reacting to the sweat dripping from Bellamy’s chin. With every drop, the moisture sizzled and cracked off the blade edge.
Bellamy’s Adam’s apple bobbled. “I figured you had something you’d trade for me keeping my mouth shut, man. I swear it. That’s it. You’re a prince, right? So you’ve got to have money.”
Na’varr’s smile widened and his relief was immediate. This creep was just a greedy little shit and had nothing to do with his family. “You figured wrong, Mr. Davies. I’m a prince without land, title, or resources. Blackmailing me would bring you nothing. I’m also a space pirate, a mercenary for hire. In what world would having me in compromising positions detract from that reputation?”
Brom growled and Bellamy arched his lower body away from the hybrid. “I got it. Stupid idea, right? Look, just call off your dog, cat, whatever. You can have the coil for half price, okay?”
Na’varr tilted his head. “You poisoned me. Called my second in command a...” Na’varr met Brom’s amused gaze. “Dog, was it?” He looked back to the shady dealer. “I’m a fair man. One quarter of the original asking price.”
The man winced but nodded immediately. Brom released him and stepped away.
“The credits will be transferred to your account upon our departure from your atmosphere. If you mention you met me, saw me, had anything to do with the Andovian Prince or the Mercenary Captain, you’ll be looking over your shoulder for the rest of your short life.”
“I won’t. I swear it.” He stood slowly and Brom stepped close enough to whisper something. Bellamy’s color washed out to a sickly white.
Na’varr moved around them toward a neon exit sign. “Do you have the coil?”
“Yes sir.”
“Good. Let’s get out of here.”
Bellamy remained still as a statue, refusing to move from his spot.
They walked a few feet away, moving in a tandem pattern where they could watch each other’s backs. “He’s not moving, Brom.”
“Nope.” There was definitely a smirk to Brom’s voice.
“Is he going to move?”
“Not if he ever wants to survive the night.”
Na’varr made a mental note to ask him later on what he’d said to the man. Right then, they needed to get the coil back to the ship.

“Raesa!” Brom’s shout pierced Na’varr’s ear drums.
Somehow he’d ended up leaning on the hybrid like he was a drunkard wobbling home. So much for dignity. He tried really hard not to laugh, but it came through as a garbled chuckle.
“What the hell happened?” Raesa. His sweet girl’s arms came around him.
“Help me get him to the bed. We’ve got the coil.”
Raesa’s shoulder pressed against his side and her grip on him tightened. He looked up at her and stroked her cheek with clumsy fingers.”You are so beautiful, little thief. You stole my heart. Stole Brom’s. We love you. Did you know that? Loooove.”
“For fuck’s sake, is he drunk?”
Brom sighed. “Long story. Someone slipped a little feel good juice in his drink.”
“You were supposed to be watching his back, not getting wasted.” She was pissed.
“I was.” Brom shot back with frustration.
“Go easy on him.” Na’varr teetered unsteadily as they reached the bedroom hatch. “
Raesa froze. “He what?”
“An android. It was a damn android. Stop fucking helping, Na’varr.”
Na’varr opened the hatch and stumbled inside. The first waft of real, honest-to-god coffee hit him full in the face and he hauled Raesa around to stare at her. Her blue eyes were wide and round. “I miss your red hair, but you’d be beautiful no matter what color we chose.”
Her cheeks flushed bright pink and she glanced over at Brom. “He’s completely wasted.”
“No,” Na’varr denied. “Just ready to curl up in bed with you and a cup of coffee.”
“Coffee?’
“Please tell me that’s the real thing I smell.”
Raesa slipped out of Na’varr’s hands and frowned at him. A fine line formed between her brows when she was pissed. Right now, it was a deep crevice. “I had some delivered while you guys were out playing adventure cowboys in space and left my ass here.” She glanced over at Brom. “Without a note or explanation. We have enough to hopefully get us back to the Crimson Star.”
The hybrid pulled the cloth mask down and opened his mouth to speak. At Raesa’s glare, he shut his mouth and a dark flush colored his cheeks.
It was unique to find his second in command without words and properly chastised.
Na’varr welcomed the cup she offered and took a tentative sip of the beverage. The java hit his tongue with rich flavor and intensity. His goddess made coffee strong enough for a spoon to stand up straight in. And right then, it was the richest nectar. Time drifted for several blessed moments.
He was onlyhalf aware of the cup being taken from his hands and the soft caresses of his woman pulling off his tunic. Na’varr forced his mind to focus on the conversation going on.
Brom was apologizing at the same time he was letting her know their situation. So much more confident than the nearly broken man he’d taken into his car over a decade ago. “I love you. Did I ever tell you that?”
Brom stopped mid-sentence to roll his eyes. He shook his head. “We’ll be in the air in ten minutes. Get that coffee secured or he’ll be a bear when he wakes up.”
“On it.”
He heard some more chatter
. The warmth of Raesa tucking up against his body eased his tension. Na’varr hugged her against him and blinked lazily to find her watching him with concern. On a groan of remembered pleasure, he grabbed the back of her head and captured her lips in a lingering kiss, tasting and sipping from her, delving into her flavor, everything that made her his. Theirs.
He ended the kiss and Raesa ran her fingers through the hair at his temple. “What was that for?”
Na’varr sighed. “It’s been a very, very long day. I have missed you.”
Her shy smile unraveled another knot around his heart.
This was the perfect counter to a spectacularly annoying day. The rev of their engines soothed him further. They were back on their way to the skies, where he and the two loves of his life belonged. Raesa was the glue that held them together, the captain and his brother in arms. “You made me coffee,” he murmured.
Her fingers toyed with his hair more. “Of course I did.”
He chuckled. “So domestic.”
She tugged his locks. “You are in so much trouble when you sober up.”
Na’varr kissed her again and rolled her beneath him, fitting his cock against her sweet spot. He was looking forward to it.

About Author Dawn Montgomery
USA Today bestselling author Dawn Montgomery loves to write almost as much as she loves to read. She has traveled the world twice over. While her days were filled with long hours and hard work, her nights were left for dark, lustful fantasies in and out of strange hotels and cities.
Alaska and Texas are the places she calls home. She recently moved from the frigid North to Texas with her family and neurotic dog. It was tragic to leave behind the moose and bear for wide open plains and sexy cowboys.
