“Mind if I make a suggestion?” said King Nubbins.

“Not sure what you could offer up, Nubbins, but I’ve got nowhere else to be, so go on.”

Nubbins pulled out a small package that he set in front of Corbain.

  “What’s this?”

  “Open it.”

Corbain grunted and pulled the wrapping from around the item. It looked to be a cakey square of chocolate.

“Is that a brownie?” asked Corbain.

  “Yeah.”

“And that’s supposed to make everything all right, eh?”

“For a little while,” Nubbins replied.

“Maybe the Orcs aren’t so bad, after all,” said Corbain snidely. “I think if I’d have ended up with you as an in-law, I’d probably—”

“Seriously, dude,” Nubbins said suddenly, “you need to chill.”

  “Excuse me?”

“Eat the brownie, man, and hand a bit to your lady while you’re at it. She’s even more uptight than you are.”

With that, Nubbins got up and walked away from the table.

Corbain watched the man leave. At first he wanted to follow him and punch him in the head, but there was something about the way King Nubbins carried himself that Corbain couldn’t help but envy. He was relaxed, or “chilled,” as the case may be.

He eyed the brownie, picked it up, and gave it a sniff. Smelled normal enough to him. Taking a small pinch off the side, he nibbled on it.

  “Not bad,” he said appraisingly.

“What’s that you have there, dear?” asked Helena as she returned from freshening up.

  “Brownie.”

“Oh, I could use a treat,” she said, ripping a piece off and shoving it into her mouth.

  “Uh...”

“That’s delicious,” she said with wide eyes. “Aren’t you going to have any?”

Corbain glanced at the brownie, then up at King and Queen Nubbins, then over at his daughter and new son-in-law, and finally at the table full of Orcs who he’d be spending the majority of his holidays with.

“Yeah, babe,” he said, adopting Nubbins’s way of talking, “I think I will.”

  A LETTER FROM TEDDY

  Dear Reader,

I can’t thank you enough for reading this book. You see, I was in a bad situation where I owed a fair amount of money to Kleeshay, one of the mob bosses in Pren. Maybe you’ve heard of him?

Anyway, I’d gone to him for a loan so that I could start up a stuffed-animal business, but it had taken so long for the marketing to get done that I had run out of time. I’d thought certain that he was going to break my legs, or worse. But when that day arrived for his henchmen to show up, they were nowhere to be found.

Knowing I couldn’t get away from the long reach of the mob, I went to Kleeshay’s headquarters to try and find some other way to work everything out. When I got there I found the place closed up with a sign that read “Permanently out of business.” I knew exactly what that meant, having grown up in this area of Pren. The mob boss known as Kleeshay was kaput, and that spelled that my debt to him was too!

I ran back to my house and found my marketing team at the door. They’d come up with the perfect name for my stuffed animals: Teddy’s Bears. I love it!

Well, because you were instrumental in helping me achieve a margin of success, I’m offering you 25% off any of my Teddy’s Bears stuffed animals whenever you’re in the land of Pren. If you can’t make it to Pren, you can order via the Undernet once I get my site up and running. The coupon code will be: ByeByeKleeshay.

  With warmest regards,

  ~Teddy
