Masked (Superheros Undercover Book 1)

“Liar. You circled his name with little hearts. Do Mom and Dad know that you’re cheating on Orion?”
“Oh, my God! What the hell? I am never going out with Orion! Ugh!”
“If you say so. But the lady doth protest too much, methinks.”
“I have no idea what that means.”
“You’ll learn when you take Shakespearean Studies next semester.”
“I can’t believe I got stuck with that class,” she said, dropping onto her bed. “Someone just kill me now and put me out of my misery.”
“That’s what happens when you wait until a week before graduation to start signing up for classes. All of the good ones are taken.”
“Ugh…” She whined and wished she could take the first semester off. But it was too late and she’d already agreed to attend in the fall. She was stuck taking things like Shakespearean Studies and Human Sexuality. The first she wasn’t at all interested in, but the latter she was moderately curious about.
“It’s not fair to you, Vada, but I know why they’re doing it. You’re their little girl and the first one to become a hero. They worry about you.”
“Yeah, I know. They want me to be safe. Doesn’t mean I like being forced into school.”
“It is a little weird that they want me to quit school and now they’re forcing you to go.” Josh walked over and put his arm around Vada. “Don’t worry. You’ll love college. And hey, it isn’t like you don’t already have another career to fall back on.”
“You do too. Fail at this engineering and you can always become a superhero.”
“I think we have enough of those in the family,” Josh said, then nodded toward the corner of the room. Nothing appeared to be out of place. But they knew better.
Together, Vada using her power and Josh with his hands, they began to fling pillows and blankets at Garret as he hid using his invisibility. Their family was definitely far from usual. And Vada wouldn’t have it any other way.
Epilogue
Eden woke up with the sun shining on her face, warming her like the body in the bed beside her. She stretched and her toes poked out from under the quilt. She slid out of the bed and ambled over to the mirror, giving herself a once-over to make sure her makeup hadn’t smudged during sleep. It was perfect, as usual.
She wasn’t sure how the whole supersuit device worked, but it was the most glorious thing ever. She could take off all of her suit and when she reset it on her wristlet, everything went back to normal. It was supernatural and something that she loved. Just like the man waking up on the other side of the room.
“Mmm…” Velocious flicked his hand and beckoned her over to him. She came without hesitation, lowering herself onto his lap. “Good morning, gorgeous.”
Eden leaned down and met his lips with a fervor that had yet to subside since the first moment they’d been together. Their bodies fit as perfectly as an orchestra playing an elaborate classical piece. She felt her suit being tugged down until her breasts spilled out into his hands. The coarse pads of his thumbs rubbed circles over her hardening nipples just before he took one into his mouth. He teased her with a twirl of his tongue, then gave a hard suck and released her breast with a smack.
Before Eden could catch her breath, Velocious rolled her over, worked her suit over her hips, and down her long slim legs, leaving her boots in place. He took his time opening his own suit, watching the rise and fall of her breasts as her heart beat faster in anticipation of what was to come.
This, he could repeat every day of their lives. Twice, most days.
He ran his hands down her thighs and parted them, sinking between. He met her moist heat with a swift motion that made both of their eyes roll back in bliss. And so it began, a rhythm of quick, strong thrusts that, paired with nimble fingers, brought Eden to the peak first, Velocious to follow. Their moans filled the quiet morning air until he collapsed onto the bed beside her.
Caught up in the pleasure, Eden saw her chance to ask what she’d been working her way up to since fleeing Cyper City.
“It’s been a while now,” she said sweetly. “Do you think maybe we can—”
“No.”
“You don’t even know what I was going to say.” She sat up and stuck out her lower lip.
“You want to leave the country and go back to the city. I know what you want. And the answer is no.”
She rolled out of the bed and stomped into the kitchen area of the open floored house. It had been a rental that Velocious set up before his father kidnapped her. After Marticus, who she now knew was Dr. Chem, almost killed her by flooding her body with toxins, they’d escaped to the country. The first day after Velocious rescued her had been hell for them both. Her serial vomiting of green fluids and constant headaches had left them both unsure if she’d survive.
But Velocious had taken extremely good care of her. He’d brought in a doctor who specialized in super ailments and paid the man to keep the visit discreet. Then he had showered her with attention and affection as she healed over the next few weeks. Now, she still vomited on occasion but hadn’t in the last 48 hours, thankfully.
Thinking the worst was behind them, Eden hoped to convince Velocious to allow them to return to the city. She missed the sounds. It was too quiet here. And she wanted to see the lights. The tall buildings that offered multitudes of entertainment. She was growing stir-crazy already and her power itched to get ahold of someone. To bend their will and feed her need to be in control. She couldn’t use her gift on Velocious, and no one else had come near them since the doctor had left.
“How long do you intend to keep me locked up here?” she spat, taking a container of juice from the fridge and drinking straight from it. “I need to socialize, Velocious. You know I can’t go this long without using my power.”
“You don’t know how long you can go between using your persuasion because you’ve used it every day since gaining the power.” He marched over and took the juice, returning it to the refrigerator. “My focus is keeping you safe, not playing host to your crazy need to tell women to stop wearing green because it’s your color.”
“Baby…” Eden wrapped her arms around his neck and waited until his eyes met hers. “I love that you want to protect me. It turns me on how possessive you are. But why are we hiding? We aren’t cowards, and staying here only gives your father more power and time to complete his project. If he makes this megavillain, then he’ll have an advantage over us.”
“He’ll be so busy with his project that he won’t have time to worry about us.”
“Do you really think that? You know him best of all. He wouldn’t overlook me for your sake, so what makes you think that he’ll just forget about us and let us live in peace? But once he has this weapon, a super that is practically indestructible? He’ll be unstoppable. And he’ll come after us. What then?”
Velocious leaned against the fridge and pulled her close. “What are you suggesting?”
“That we give him a taste of what he deserves. He tried to kill me, and yet he’ll just pick up with his experiments with another super. He should pay for what he did.”
“You’re right. He should.” He was quiet for a moment, thinking over her proposal. “And what kind of villains would we be if we let him think he got away with it?”
“Precisely,” she purred. “Once he’s out of the way, we can be free. No looking over our shoulders and no hiding in the hills instead of being in the city where we belong.”
“Dr. Chem is one of the most notorious supervillains this world has ever seen.”
“Yes, he is. And we’re going to be the ones who take him down.”
Velocious took Eden’s head in his hands. “I will kill him before I’ll let him hurt you. You know that, right? I don’t care who he is. No one will ever take you from me.”
“I know. But you’re not going alone. I’ll be with you. We’ll take him down together.” She leaned up and swiped her tongue across the seam of his lips, eliciting a groan from his throat.
“You’re so sexy when you’re scheming,” he whispered, then took her mouth in a fiery kiss that promised more than sweet vengeance.
