He reached behind him and picked up a brochure from the desk. "There's a new strip mall in Sunnydale. They're renting spaces pretty cheap. I think a storefront would work. I've also priced a van that we could use to go around and give out literature, I've even looked into booking airtime for a Saturday morning radio show aimed at youth."

"Wow!" She laughed. "You've really thought this through. I'm impressed! I don't know what else to say! This is just..."

She sat down in his lap and wound her arms around his neck. He held her and kissed her, their kiss deepening and their hands roaming until he took hers in his and laughed.

"OK," he said. "We need to take it easy here."

  "All right," she said shyly.

"It's not that I don't enjoy kissing you. It's just that there's another proposal. One that's even more important."

  Naomi couldn't imagine anything better.

  "OK," she said. "Shoot."

He looked at her and smiled broadly. "Marry me, Naomi Kindle."

She wasn't sure she heard right. Her heart pounded in her chest and she pinched herself on the arm. It hurt. She wasn't dreaming.

  "What?"

"Marry me. I love you. I think I loved you from the moment I saw you. When I thought I'd driven you away, destroyed your faith.."

His eyes welled up with tears. "I can honestly say hell can't be more tortuous than what I went through. And when I found our phone and tracked down where and what Pinnacle was. I prayed non-stop that I'd reach you in time. And when I found you, found out who as taking care of you and what he thought of you..."

He put her off his lap and stood. His back was to her now and Naomi felt a surge of anxiety. She'd never seen Eric cry, but his shoulders heaved now.

"I wanted to kill him, Naomi. When he took me to the room and gave me a rundown of all the things I could do with you for seven hundred dollars - even if you didn't want me to, for a moment I thought I was going to snap. I could see my hands around his throat, see me squeezing the life from him like a worthless rat.."

Eric squeezed his fist now, looking at it as if he were looking at Jasper's very face.

"Only the thought of where that would leave you stayed my hand. So I waited. And when you came in. Do you have any idea, Naomi, how precious you are to me. To God? Your parents never deserved you, Naomi. But I promise to work the rest of my life to be worthy of your affection."

He dropped down on one knee. "So, Naomi. Will you do it? Will you be my wife?"

"YES!" She yelled the word, flinging herself into his arms. "A hundred million times YES!"

They were both crying now as he kissed her eyes, her nose, her cheeks, her mouth.

The door flung open suddenly and Claire burst into the room, her eyes filled with concern.

"I heard yelling! Is everything OK?"

Naomi turned. "It's better than OK. It's great. It's awesome. Claire..." She walked over and took the girl's hands in hers. "We're getting married."

"What?" She screamed in joy then and the two were jumping up and down laughing and hugging.

Then Naomi turned to her fiance.

  "This ministry. Can Claire help?"

"If she'd like a fulltime job, sure."

  "A job? Doing what?"

They explained Eric's vision to her then, and Claire's eyes grew big as she listened. She nodded with affirmation as they talked, her excitement growing along with theirs.

"It's going to be great!" Claire said, and wrapped them both in a hug. And Naomi, tears streaming through her grateful eyes knew for certain that she finally not only had a future to look forward to, but the one thing that had always alluded her - a family that would love her forever. No matter what.
