The Resolute

Remove the people and Cyborgs and others will take over. Perhaps more than before man, but perhaps simply multiplying in the face of no competition for resources.

Of the Cyborgs, nothing was ever found at all. No processed metals, not in buildings, robot carcasses, and no sign of any computers. More interesting than that, all the infrastructure, factories, bridges, monuments, anything at all from human or Cyborg hands… gone. But then, ninety-nine percent of all modern structures were steel and glass. Somehow, the glass was gone, just like the metals.

But, just like Colliestown, the land was swept bare, and anything built by other than nature, was long gone. Willits’ people figured from where they met the Zephroan coming back, to here, was better than one hundred real years..

Although no one could ‘officially’ determine what had happened to the Cyborgs, let alone the people, nothing unusual seemed threatening. In fact, only vegetation, lakes, streams, mountains, deserts and wide plains met their scanners. Again, in every part of the world, mankind’s evidence was… gone.

The ozone layer, the atmosphere, the ice caps, all had reformed as they should, without the interference of people or Cyborgs, as it should be.

  Epilogue

Now the people were becoming excited. Home, at last, and ready to begin anew. They need not start with mud huts and spears. They came with enough technology and resources to restart a small country. They could fill this planet even faster than they had Renewal.

But then, assuming that the Zephroan had finished with them, the planet was theirs. Returned home. But now, all they could do was pray that another fleet of Zephroan had not decided to come after them again.

So, who did they pray to, Chips… or God?

  Good guess.
