Bucking the Odds

Ryan listened carefully to his story.
"I've driven a team before but I never did any freight driving"
Kenna laughed.
"Don't worry, it's easy....even I can do it. I told you, Dad wanted a boy"
Angus leaned back in his chair.
"Honey, I wouldn't trade you for any ten boys."
Ryan spoke before he had time to think.
"It's easy to tell, Miss Kenna, that you're no boy!"
Then he blushed, realizing how it must have sounded, and she turned to him. This time he noticed she didn't blush.
"There you go again Mister O'Sullivan, but I'm beginning to like it."
Angus sat back and watched the interaction with interest as Ryan blushed even deeper.
"I'm sorry Miss Kenna if I offended you...I...I..."
She broke in with a big smile to end his agony.
"I'm just teasing you Mister O'Sullivan...a woman loves to be told she is a woman."
Ryan relaxed a little and they both laughed as Angus breathed a sigh of relief, not being sure where it had been going.
Kenna smiled again.
"I'll teach you all about freighting."
This time Angus gave a laugh.
"And she's the one that can do it Lad...welcome aboard, Kenna and I will begin your training in the morning, we have a small bunkhouse out back and you can move in there."
