“Well,” she replied with a playful smile that gave him hope. “That rather depends.”
“Upon what?”
“Would I have to ask you for permission for all my activities?”
“Good God, no!” He laughed. “I can just imagine Crista’s reaction if Amos enforced such draconian measures in their marriage.” He caressed her with his eyes. “You are a free spirit, Nia, which is one of your many endearing features. I would never attempt to tame that spirit; on that you have my solemn word.”
He watched a kaleidoscope of emotions flit across her countenance as she considered his assurance. There was so much more he could do to persuade her, but he resisted the urge. She must admit that she loved him and wished to spend the rest of her life with him without any further coercion on his part.
After what seemed like an hour, but could only have been a minute or two, a radiant smile illuminated her features. She stood on her toes and placed a delicate kiss on his lips.
“I do love you, Vince, more than you could possibly know, and if you really want me for your wife, then I accept your proposal with gladness in my heart.”
Vince whooped as he bent his head to seal their agreement with a searing kiss.
