Wait for Me

  Matt gives Tyler a pat on the back “Nice man”

  “Are you serious?” Tyler asks my Dad.

  “As a heart attack.” Dad replies, causing Mom to toss her glasses at him.

  “Poor choice of words, sorry Dear.” Dad laughs

  “There is more. The Doctor wants me to take it easy, and I’ll be honest. This house has proven to be way too much work for your mother to take care of on her own. I know you guys are here.” He nods at Tyler and I. “But I have a hard time getting up the stairs without my heart rate going through the roof. It’s only a matter of time before I trigger something much more serious.”

  I flinch at the thought of anything happening to my Dad.

  He reaches over and takes my hand in his, reassuring me.

  “Anyway, Tyler and Alyssa you are married now. You have a family of your own. Living with your Mom and Dad isn’t what you want for the rest of your lives, I know that.”

  “We are working on it Dad, Tyler wants to go and look at houses tomorrow actually.” I reply with a smile.

  “That’s not necessary, sweetie.” Mom interrupts.

  I look at her confused.

  “We want the four of you to have the house. If Tyler is taking over the business in time, it makes sense for you guys to live here anyway. The only thing we ask is that you keep the apartments on the other side of the property for the workers.”

  Tyler and I look at each other, each mirroring the shock.

  “Mom, Dad are you guys sure, I mean Dad you designed this house.”

  “We are, you have lived in this house your whole life, and I think it is the perfect place to raise a family.”

  I start to cry. It’s all just so much.

  “Thank you Daddy!” I exclaim.

  Dad hugs me back. I can tell that Tyler is shocked.

  “Mom and I have already purchased a home on the next road, so we will always be close to each of you.” He motions to Matt and I. “We will be a part of both of your families, which means the most to us. Not the farm or the house.”

  Matt is crying. “Jesus Dad, you sound like you are dying.”

  “I’m not, at least not today, but it is time to get my shit in order, Mom and I have been thinking about this for a long time actually, ever since Tyler came back to live with us. We knew that he and Alyssa would smarten up and work everything out at some point, and we know that you will all work hard living your lives to the fullest.”

  We all talk for the next two hours about Mom and Dad’s new house, Matt makes fun of Tyler and asks him if he is excited for the 4am wakeup calls.

  He gives me a questioning look.

  I nod at him. Knowing what he wants to share.

  “Well, I guess this is as good of a time as any to share some news of our own with you all.”

  “What, What?” Mom asks brightly

  “Alyssa is pregnant! We are having another baby!”

  Everyone claps and shouts with joy. I was a little nervous that they might think it was a bad time, considering we have Jaylynn, but no one even looks slightly concerned.

  “Are you sure you know this time?” Matt jokes.

  “I know.” Tyler play punches him.

  “How.” Stacy continues, messing with Tyler.

  “She sent me a text.” Tyler lies.

  “Are you kidding?” Matt asks

  “Yes! Of course he’s kidding, he was with me when I found out.”

  “I am so fucking excited I am going to be an Uncle again.”

  “3 times over, by the time I am due Jaylynn’s adoption papers will be good to go and she’ll officially be ours!”

  Another round of hoots and hollers.

  Everyone goes home and to their rooms shortly after.

  Mom and Dad are moving quickly, they are leaving most of their stuff behind and just buying the basics for the new hours. I am still in shock that this place is officially ours, I never in a million years would have expected Mom to ever want to move. Turns out it was her idea. She wanted us to have this place, to have our family grow up the way I did. I have never been more thankful for anything in my life. Outside of course, for my beautiful, growing little family.

  “Who would have thought a year ago this is where we would all be.” I say to Tyler later that night when we are climbing into bed.

  “I knew we would get here at some point. We are meant to be, I wasn’t letting you go for anything.”

  “Thank you.” I say leaning in and kissing him.

  He pulls me so that I am laying on top of him. “For What?” He asks, kissing me once more.

  “For waiting for me.”

  “You are the stars in my sky, I’d wait forever for you, Alyssa Pierce. You are my forever.”

  “And you’re mine.”
