Power Play - A MFMMM Reverse Harem Billionaire Romance (You Can't Resist a Bad Boy Book 6) Page 23

by Layla Valentine

That was the best sex of my life.

And it was with Sean, nonetheless. Sean, my high school best friend. A run-around guy who I figured would be selfish and disconnected in bed.

  Yet he was anything but.

Running my hand over my face, I turn to look at him. He’s on his side, head propped up on his hand, hair all over the place.

  He’s never looked more delicious.

  “Well?” Sean asks.

  “Well, what?”

He gives me a purposeful look.

“Okay,” I slowly answer, “I hate stoking your ego, but that was amazing. The best I’ve had in…a really good while.”

Sean fist pumps in the air. “So what, like a nine? A ten?”

“Get out of here.” I playfully push his chest.

“That means it was off the charts.”

He scoots closer, throwing his arm over my waist. I know I should resist this extra act of attention, since it will only lead me down the wrong road, but I can’t seem to wiggle away from him.

“I’d say that did the job,” he says.

I guffaw. “How do you know?”

“Told you. I have a gift.”

I roll my eyes. “A dick is way different than a gun.”

  “Is it, though? Really?”

I can’t stop my laugh. This is weird…because it’s not weird. We’re joking around like we always used to—as if we didn’t just get naked together for the first time and attempt to make a baby.

  “We can always try again.”

His eyes suggestively drift over me, and a fresh wave of desire surfaces.

I try to swallow the lump in my throat. “This is supposed to be a one-time thing. You said you could do it in one shot.”

Even as I dish out the argument, I know it’s worthless. I can’t afford to be picky. If I want to get pregnant, I need to take complete advantage of my time with Sean.

“Also,” I point out, “We just did it. There’s no way you can go again so quickly.”

  “Wanna bet?”

No. I just want more of him.

Moving fast so I don’t second guess this, I press my lips to Sean’s. His hands are hungry, ready for more. They trail over my hips and push between my thighs.

“Hey! Sean!” a voice calls out.

With a gasp, I break away from him. Someone’s in the apartment!

A second later, and that someone appears in the bedroom doorway, his eyes wide. He’s a guy about our age, with dark hair, and instead of looking mortified or embarrassed, he’s grinning.

I grab for the sheets, realize we’re on top of them, and frantically throw a pillow over my torso.

“Sorry,” the guy says, but he doesn’t look apologetic in the least bit.

“Man, get out of here.” Sean throws a pillow at him. The guy dodges it, but he does turn around.

  “My clothes,” I hiss.

My face has got to literally be on fire. Sean hands me my clothes and pulls on his boxers. I dress as fast as I can, fingers fumbling the whole time. The guy has gone out to the living room, thank God—but that does mean I’ll have to walk past him on my way out.

“Who is that?” I ask in a quiet voice.

“My roommate. Frank. Don’t worry, he’s cool.”

I’m not sure just what ‘cool’ means in this situation, and I don’t care. I just want to leave. ASAP.

Before I can, Sean presses his hand against my waist.

“I’m sorry we didn’t get to do it a second time.”

With his eyes so close and his scent overwhelming me, I’m suddenly emotional. I can’t say why, but I am.

“It’s fine,” I argue with a smile. “You said one time is enough.”

His eyes flash with a hint of disappointment, but I won’t let myself read into it.

“I have to go,” I quickly say, walking around him.

I half wish he would stop me, but I also know it’s best if he doesn’t.

As expected, Frank is in the living room, feet up on the coffee table.

  “Hi.” He grins.

  “Hello.” I clear my throat.

Sean stops next to me. “Violet, this is Frank. He’s a military buddy and probably my closest friend. Frank, this is Violet.”

  Frank’s face is knowing.

“Oh, yeah. Violet.” From the way he says my name, he’s most certainly heard about me.

What has Sean said? That we were best friends? That we had a great relationship that we foolishly let fade? That I was just another girl in a long list of many?

“I have to go,” I say, voice stilted.

  “Hm. Okay.” Frank smiles.

Fully clothed, I can allow myself a minute to really take him in. Square jaw covered in stubble. Dark eyes. A body just as toned as Sean’s, but stockier.

Apparently, this building discriminates and only allows in hot people.

“So, that was…uh, interesting,” Sean says.

“Sorry to interrupt.” Frank apologizes like he walked in on our TV show and we had to pause it.

“But we’re all friends here.” Sean’s smile is too broad for the occasion.

  I want to laugh, but I can’t.

“Right,” Frank agrees, his eyes on me. “You don’t have anything to be ashamed of, Violet.”

Is his trying to make his comment as suggestive as I think he is? And in front of Sean?

“I need to go,” I say, although I’ve already let that be known.

I quickly grab my purse and scoot toward the door. Sean is in front of me in an instant, blocking the doorway.

“Hey,” he says, his voice so low only I can hear him. “Are you good? Was that…”

His gaze softens, but he doesn’t go on.

“It got the job done,” I tell him with a tight smile. “I’ll be in touch. Just to, you know, let you know.”

Sean’s throat bobs as he swallows. “Cool.”

  “See you, Sean.”

  “See you.”

I leave the apartment, my heart pounding with a mess of emotions.

  Chapter 8

  Frank

  “Man,” I say. “Wow.”

Sean just keeps walking for his bedroom. Hauling my ass off the couch, I follow. As I stand in the doorway, arm propped on the frame, he picks up the pillows that must have fallen off during his fuck-fest.

  Or foreplay-fest.

“Sorry I cock-blocked you,” I tell him. “If it makes you feel any better, you can punch me in the arm. One sore arm for a pair of blue balls.”

Sean grins at me over his shoulder. “That’s not a fair trade.”

I shrug. “Sorry, I’m not letting you punch me in the crotch. I have to draw the line somewhere.”

“It’s good. We got the job done before you got here, anyway. That was just about to be round two.”

  “Nice.”

I move out of the way so he can leave the bedroom. I’m not done yet, though. Far from it. I haven’t seen a naked piece of ass like that in a long time. Just thinking about it has my balls getting all tingly.

I know I should probably feel guilty, seeing as the chick on my mind is the one who was just in my best buddy’s bed, but I don’t. Like me, Sean doesn’t do girlfriends. I’ll be surprised if that Violet girl even comes around a second time. That means she’s as good as fair game.

Plus, I noticed the way she looked at me before running off. She might have just been in Sean’s bed, but I was the guy on her mind.

In the kitchen, Sean unscrews a bottle of the sports water shit he likes.

“Gotta charge up, huh?” I joke. “Lost a lot of electrolytes?”

He snorts a laugh, spewing red water. Wiping his mouth, he shakes his finger at me.

  “Cut it out, man.”

  “Seriously. Who was she?”

He looks at me like I’ve lost my mind. “You know. Violet. From high school.”

“Are you sure she’s that Violet?”

“Pretty positive.” He dunks the empty bo
ttle in the recycling bin from across the room.

“No. You never said that Violet was a total babe.”

“Do I have to?” He gives me a flat look. There’s something he’s not saying.

I jut my chin at him. “What’s going on here?”

  “Nothing.”

  “You’re a shitty liar.”

“I need to run to the store. Need anything?”

“You’re not going to shower?” I ask as he goes by me. “What if the salesgirl smells your fuck shower?”

“What the hell is a fuck shower?”

“It’s…you know…how you smell after you fuck. Like you took a shower in…fucking.”

“Wow. That was real poetic, Frank. You almost brought me to tears.”

“Shut up,” I grumble. “Like you’re so expressive or whatever.”

Sean grabs the top of the kitchen’s door frame and swings a little bit on it.

“I never talked about Violet being hot because it wasn’t like that with us.”

Now we’re talking. I cross my arms and lean against the counter.

“She was a late bloomer, huh?”

His mouth twists in distaste, though what’s got his panties in a bunch I can’t tell. Usually, he has no problem talking about girls.

“No. She was always hot. We just never hooked up.”

  “But why?”

Sean sighs and drops his arms. “You really need to know?”

“Only because you’re acting so secretive and shit.”

He turns away. “How was that date, anyway?”

“What the fuck, Sean? You really think I’m that stupid?” I jump in front of him before he can make it to the front door.

He spins his keys around his finger, seeming to think about something.

  “Tell me. I’m curious.”

“It was awful. What do you think?”

  “Did you…”

“Course I did. Like I should have done otherwise?”

He nods, agreeing. We both know he’s just like me. No wasting pussy in this house.

“Women are so boring,” I add, feeling the frown pulling on my lips. “The ones that actually have something to say all look like librarians. And not the hot kind in porn. They look like…real librarians. Where are all the hot, smart girls?”

  “Strip club?”

  “I’m serious,” I grumble.

“No, you’re not.” He pulls his phone from his pocket and checks the screen before putting it away again. “You’re not looking for a girlfriend.”

“Yeah, true. But is it a crime for me to want to hear something interesting come from a girl’s mouth? Other than, ‘You’re a sex god, Frank’.”

“No woman has ever said that.”

  “How do you know?”

Sean chuckles. “When’s date number two?”

  “Yeah, right.”

“Let me guess: you’re going to ignore her calls until the end of time.”

His jab is more like a punch. I don’t get why he’s making fun of me. There’s nothing different about the way we approach girls. It’s probably one of the reasons we get along. Our priorities are all in the same order.

“Like you’d do it any different?” I counter. “Are you going to call Violet?”

  His face falls. “No.”

“I thought she was an old friend.”

“She is, but…that was a long time ago.” He looks away, his chest slowly rising. “We’re not friends anymore. And today wasn’t about us.”

With the cryptic way he’s talking, now I really know there’s something juicy going on.

“Come on, dude. Just spill it.”

His eyes dart across my face.

“It wasn’t a regular hookup. I’m helping Violet get pregnant.”

The words ring in my head, making less sense the more I try to process them.

  “Wait…you…uh… Come again?”

“She wants to have a baby without a man involved.” He nonchalantly shrugs. “Her insemination clinic or whatever fell through, so I’m helping her.”

  “You’re having a kid,” I slowly say.

Nope. Still doesn’t make sense. There must be something wrong with my hearing.

Sean’s eyebrows push together like he’s annoyed.

“No. I’m just getting her pregnant. I’m her sperm donor, you know. I won’t be involved at all.”

“Wait one second.” I hold my hand up, afraid he’s about to leave after dropping this gigantic bomb. “You’re not going to, like, know the kid at all?”

  “No.”

  “Huh.”

“It’s fine. I don’t need to. I don’t want kids. I’m just helping Violet out.”

I try to imagine what it would be like to know there was a kid with my genes running around the place. Someone I’d never meet, but who would be like me anyway.

It doesn’t take long for me to decide I wouldn’t mind it. Family is the people you choose, and all that stuff.

“So, you’re gonna bang until it happens.”

  “Well…”

  “Uh-huh?” I nod eagerly.

“I told her I could get her pregnant in one shot.”

“Nice.” I hold my hand out for a fist bump, and he pounds it. “But you might not have gotten it done today.”

I can tell by the way his face hardens that he doesn’t like that. “I probably did.”

“Yeah, but you might not have.”

Sean crosses his arms. “What’s your point?”

“She’s gonna need some more work done.” I wiggle my eyebrows.

“If that’s the case, I’ll take care of it.”

  “Or I can.”

He glowers at me. “Violet doesn’t even know you. We’ve been friends for years.”

“You told me you haven’t seen her in a decade.”

“It doesn’t matter,” he snaps. “She asked me to do it.”

  “Really?”

His tough-guy exterior cracks a little. “Well, I offered…and she said yes.”

I can’t keep my grin back. “Maybe she’ll say yes to me as well.”

Sean opens his mouth, looking like he wants to argue, then shuts it. We both know the truth. She’s not his girlfriend. He can’t tell her what to do.

“Let’s make it a competition,” I say. “I bet I can get Violet pregnant first.”

Sean guffaws and rolls his eyes. “You’re joking.”

  “Dead serious, man.”

He studies my face, seeing I’m not kidding. “Like I said, Violet doesn’t—”

“She doesn’t have to know me. I saw the way she watched me.”

Sean’s jaw ticks. All he has to do is tell me to back off, and I will. If Violet is a girl he wants all to himself, he can have her. I may do a lot of questionable things, but I won’t ruin a friendship over a woman.

  A long moment passes.

“I’m going out,” Sean announces. He turns around quick, storming out before I have the chance to say anything else.

“I’ll be here!” I shout at the closed door, not sure whether he hears me or not. But it doesn’t matter.

I’ll be right in this living room when he gets home.

And my dick will be ready to go the second Violet is.

  Chapter 9

  Sean

Each step only makes my blood boil more.

Who does Frank think he is? He can’t just take every woman he sees, like Honolulu is his personal candy store.

Even as I’m mentally ranting, I know something’s not right. I shouldn’t be getting angry at him.

Just like Violet isn’t Frank’s, she isn’t mine.

And I don’t want her to be.

I mean, the sex we just had was amazing. The best I’ve had in a long time. There’s no getting around that. But I’ve had great lays before. It doesn’t mean I suddenly want the woman to stay around and cook me breakfast.

  “Excuse me,” someone suddenly says.

I look up just in time to av
oid bumping into an old lady.

“Sorry, ma’am,” I tell her, stepping out of the way.

Shaking my head at myself, I go into the corner grocery store. My brain is still so scrambled, though, I have to walk up and down the aisles several times before finding the coffee beans. Grabbing a bag, I tuck it under my arm and gather the other few regular supplies.

I didn’t really need anything. Not immediately. I just had to get out of the apartment for a while. Being interrupted before I got the chance to screw Violet a second time really messed with my head. Now, she’s all I can think about.

And Frank prattling on about her only made it worse.

I can feel the tension entering my jaw as I take the goods to the counter and wait for the salesclerk to ring them up. Frank and I have slept with a few of the same girls before, but this…this is just different. It’s Violet.

I know her. Frank never will.

“Thanks,” I tell the clerk, taking my change and hoisting up the single plastic bag.

The electric doors slide open, and instead of going straight back to the apartment, I head to the block over, opting to take a long route home.

I should tell him to take his stupid bet and shove it up his ass.

But if I do that, I’ll look like a coward.

My sharp inhale burns. There’s only one option. I may not like it, but it’s what I have to do.

“Let’s do this,” I announce the second I’m in the apartment, letting the door slam shut behind me.

Frank sits up from where he was laying on the couch. He takes off his headphones and stares at me.

  “What?”

  “I said let’s do this.”

Nodding to myself, I put the grocery bag in the kitchen and take a seat on the edge of the coffee table. Frank’s face practically glows.

“You’re prepared to lose?” he asks. “That’s brave of you.”

“Eat shit,” I mumble. “For all we know, Violet is already pregnant.”

“Or she’s not.” He points purposefully at me.

I roll my eyes just as there’s a knock on the door.

  “Who’s that?” I ask.

  Frank jumps up.

“It’s Violet. You left your phone here, so I got her number from it and sent her a text. She said she’s DTF.”
