They strolled from the field toward the grandstand. Zach shook everyone’s hand starting with Asad.

“They were all in on it?” she asked when they finally had a moment alone.

“I got the idea when the media turned Asad’s visit into such a circus. He was just as uncomfortable with the situation as you, but agreed to play along for old time’s sake. Come on.” They headed toward the restored biplane.

“I like what you’ve done to her,” she commented.

“Lieutenant Commander Dann!” Two young female officers in uniform approached them on the field. “May we have your autograph? We just started flight school this week.”

Michelle offered a few words of encouragement as she signed her name to their programs. They waited for Zach’s signature next.

If you stay in the Navy, we’ll find a way to make it work. The same goes, if you get out. The important thing is that you make the right decision for the right reasons.”

“I already know what I want.”

  He raised an eyebrow.

“You’re at the top of the list. But do you think I’m going to let you be the only stunt pilot in this family? If I’m going to be your wingman, then I’m going to be your wingman. Or maybe you can be mine.”
