"Cat, I need fingers," Emma begged. "Please."

Cat didn't stop licking her. She slid two fingers inside of her, slowly, until she was completely inside of her and withdrew them, thrusting her fingers in again. Cat remembered the way Emma liked it: hard and fast. Cat moved her fingers faster now, finding a rhythm. She sat up, using her hand to hold up her weight as she hovered over Emma, her palm hitting against her clit with each stroke.

"Right there," Emma cried, holding onto Cat as she brought her closer and closer to the edge.

  "Harder?"

"Yeah," Emma said, her eyes closed, her head thrown back into the pillows. Emma held onto her as her body shook, and her hips pushed back against her one last time.

Cat held her fingers inside her, feeling her walls tightening around her as she came. Cat leaned in to kiss her as she rode out the last few waves of her orgasm. She carefully withdrew her fingers, bringing them up to her lips to lick them clean.

  "Cat..."

Cat covered her lips with her own as she lay down beside her. Emma was stunning, but seeing her like this, breathless and covered in a light layer of sweat... Cat didn't think she'd ever seen anything more beautiful, and in that moment, it was like no time had passed at all.

"What are you thinking?" Emma asked, turning to face her.

"How crazy life is," Cat said with a smile.

"I know what you mean," Emma said, returning her smile, leaning in to brush her lips across Cat's.

Emma kissed her slowly, letting her tongue slowly glide across Cat's as she maneuvered her way on top of Cat, one leg in between Cat's as she down at her.

"What?" Cat asked with a smile, meeting her eyes. Emma's dark hair tickled her shoulders as she hovered above her.

"I was just thinking how you were always in control..."

  "Me?"

"Yes. You," Emma said with a laugh as she dipped her head to kiss her collarbone and then her neck, her lips tormenting Cat as they worked their way back to her own, kissing her fully before moving to her breasts and taking a nipple into her mouth, biting and teasing her.

"I was in control back then?" Cat managed to ask.

  "Yes. Always."

  "I didn't mean to be..."

"I liked it," Emma said as she moved to her other breast, swirling her tongue around her hardened nipple.

  "So...?"

"Now, I think I want to know what it's like to be in control... To top you," Emma said with a sly smile.

  "Oh really?"

"Yes... And you're just going to have to deal with it," Emma said, taking a hold of her hands and pinning them above her head with one hand as she kissed her way further down her body, stopping just before she reached the heat that was radiating from between her legs.

Instead, Emma kissed her way back up her body, paying more attention to her breasts, but as much as Cat was enjoying it, she needed a different level of attention.

"Emma, babe... I can't take it anymore."

"Cat, are you begging me to fuck you?" Emma asked in a husky voice that Cat barely recognized.

"Yeah. I need you inside me. Now," Cat said, freeing one hand from Emma's grasp, groping her ass and giving it a playful slap as she tried to express how much she needed Emma to stop playing games and fuck her.

"That is something I never thought I'd see or hear," Emma said with a smile as she kissed her on the lips, finding her tongue in another heated duel.

Emma's hand moved away from her breast and cupped her sex, grazing Cat's clit and causing her hips to lift off the sheets.

  "Please, Emma."

Emma broke their kiss, moving back to her neck as she pushed two fingers inside of her, and Cat couldn't stop the desperate moan that escaped her lips.

"More," Cat pleaded when Emma started a slow and steady rhythm.

  "More what?"

"More of what you're doing. More fingers."

"Like this?" Emma asked as she added another finger, filling Cat up, bringing her closer and closer to the orgasm that was building up inside her.

"Yeah. Just like that," Cat said, encouraging her as freed her other hand and held onto Emma's waist as her hips matched her pace, rocking back against Emma's hand. Her other hand was still on her ass. She was so close.

Each stroke rubbed Emma's palm up against Cat's clit and in just a few seconds, Cat was clinging to Emma as she came, her hips rolling against Emma's hand, grinding out every last drop of pleasure until her orgasm subsided as she was left catching her breath, her eyes closed, her body covered in sweat.

"Emma," Cat said, reaching for her as she tried to control her breathing. "Come here," she said, wrapping her arm around her as she fell into her arms. "That was crazy..."

"You should have let me top you sooner," Emma said with a smile, her hand still cupping Cat's sex.

  "I should have."

"Then you won't fight me when I do it again?"

"No," Cat said, looking up at her as Emma straddled her body once again. "I definitely won't."

Cat shut her eyes as Emma's fingers worked their magic again, knowing exactly how she liked it even after all these years.

  Chapter 22

The next morning Emma awoke to find Caitlin’s arm draped across her stomach. She glanced over at her and couldn’t keep the smile off her face.

She’d finally done something spontaneous and just lived in the moment. She didn’t know what last night meant but she somehow felt okay about that.

Emma tried to gently lift Caitlin’s arm off her, but she stirred and slowly woke up.

Emma pushed herself into a sitting position as Caitlin’s eyes adjusted to the light that peered through the curtains.

“Hey,” Caitlin said in a sleepy voice.

  “Hi…”

Caitlin covered her mouth as she yawned and sat up next to her, leaning back against the headboard while she stretched her arms above her head.

“So… Last night,” Caitlin said softly.

“Yeah… I decided to take your advice and do something that I wouldn’t normally do…”

Caitlin smiled. “You went from ignoring my calls to inviting me over, even if it was accidently, to kissing me and then… We ended up here.”

“So, unlike me,” Emma said, returning her smile.

“Look, I know… I know last night doesn’t really change anything. I’m still going to be on the road and even if I do come out tomorrow… I wouldn’t expect you to travel around the country with me or move to L.A.”

Emma nodded. “I’m not sure what I want but you’re right. Last night was amazing… But we’re still living completely different lives.”

“Whatever happens… Would you come to Pittsburgh and spend Christmas with me and my family? They’re always asking for you. Still…”

Emma’s eyebrows rose, unable to hide her surprise. “Uh… Sure. Why not?”

“Great. We’ll sort out the details later,” Caitlin said as she leaned in and kissed Emma softly on the lips.

  “Breakfast?”

  “Sure.”

Emma climbed out of bed and got dressed trying not to overthink this. She’d just go to Caitlin’s house for Christmas and enjoy herself. That didn’t mean they were back together. They just wanted to spend some more time together.

  Chapter 23

Emma carried two bottles of beer back to their table and sat down next to Tori.

“So, what’s the big news?” Tori asked. “The suspense is killing me.”

  “Are you being sarcastic?”

  “Not at all.”

“Okay,” Emma said, not quiet believing her. “Anyway… Caitlin ended up coming over to my place last night.”

  “Really?”

  “Yeah…”

“So, you two…Even though she said what she said to the press…”

Emma nodded. “I felt like being spontaneous for a night.”

“And now where does that leave you and Cat?”

Emma shrugged. “I don’t know. We haven’t reall
y talked about it. We’re still in different places… I’m not sure what’s going to happen. She did invite me to spend Christmas with her family in Pittsburgh though.”

  “Wow… That’s a good sign.”

“Yeah. I guess. I don’t know what I want though so… We’ll see what happens.”

Tori brought her bottle of beer to her lips. “I’ll be back in a minute,” she said as she stood up and went to the restroom.

A few minutes later, Emma glanced down at the table when she felt her phone vibrate but it wasn’t her phone that lit up. It was Tori’s.

Emma wasn’t nosy, but she couldn’t help seeing the words that appeared on Tori’s phone.

Hey, did you get anymore photos of Cat Stone lezzing it up? There’s another big payday coming your way if you can get them.

Emma’s eyes moved across the screen, hardly believing what she’d just read. Her heart thudded in her ears, but she didn’t have time to think because Tori was on her way back to their table.

“Are you hungry? I was thinking of getting some food here. Their wings are delicious,” Tori said as she sat down, her phone still lit up on the table.

Emma wiped her sweaty palms down the front of her jeans. “I didn’t mean to see that text, but I did… What the hell’s going on?”

Tori read the message and then put her phone in her pocket. “It’s not what it looks like…”

  “Really?”

“I was just trying to push you guys together and it looks like it worked.”

“That’s your explanation?!” Emma asked, trying to keep her anger in check.

“Okay, I was also a little low on cash.”

“How can that be? You’re always working!”

“Look, I sent that photo to a friend of a friend. I didn’t think it would get so crazy,” Tori said as she reached for her drink. “I thought it was a win-win situation. Cat has to come out because those photos are everywhere so you two are happy and I get a few thousand dollars for some easy work.”

“I can’t believe what I’m hearing,” Emma said as she stood up and grabbed her coat.

  “Emma, wait.”

“I’m not dealing with this right now, Tori. I can’t believe you would do that. That’s her life you’re messing with. She’s not out right now because she doesn’t want to be. It’s not up to you to change that. And you’re supposed to be my best friend…”

Emma finished her drink and left without saying another word. She could feel her face getting flushed with anger and she didn’t want to get into a fight in the middle of a bar.

She got in the back of a taxi and went home, not sure whether she should tell Caitlin about who took those photos.

  Chapter 24

  December 25, 2015

Emma sat on the sofa in the living room with Caitlin’s family, marveling at them and how normal they were. They had always been so good to her. They’d welcomed her into the family all those years ago and not much had changed since.

Caitlin’s parents were older, but they were as kind as ever and delighted to have Emma spend Christmas with them.

Emma had told her own parents that she wasn’t going to be around today, but it wasn’t a big deal. They saw each other all the time and Emma had promised to join them for leftovers tomorrow.

Emma finished the last bit of red wine in her glass that she’d been nursing. The last thing she wanted to do was get tipsy in front of Caitlin’s parents and ruin the wonderful image they had of her.

“Hey Emma, do you want a refill?” Caitlin asked from the other side of the room. She was making her way into the kitchen.

“Yeah. I’ll get it though,” Emma said as she followed her into the kitchen where they refilled their glasses.

“Can I steal you for a few minutes?”

  “Sure.”

  “The piano’s in the den…”

Emma followed her down the hall and into the cozy den where a piano and a wood burning stove took up most of the room, with a two-seater couch on the far wall.

“So, I didn’t really know if I was going to be seeing you for Christmas,” Caitlin said as she sat down in front of the piano. “But I’ve been working on this song for a few weeks now and um… Well, I wrote it for you. So, I know it’s not a traditional present but… I hope you like it.”

Emma sat down on the couch and smiled as she watched Caitlin’s fingers delicately move across the keys.

She blinked back tears and wondered why she was getting so emotional over this. She hadn’t even heard the words yet, but it was the gesture really, that Caitlin would spend hours putting a song together for her.

Emma sipped on her glass of wine while Caitlin’s haunting voice filled the room.

By the time Caitlin was finished singing and her fingers played the last few notes, Emma had to wipe away a tear that had escaped down her cheek.

“That was amazing,” Emma said softly. “Thank you.”

“I’m going to add it to the album… Jeff’s talking about the record company wanting to rerelease it with bonus tracks.”

“It’s beautiful,” Emma said as she stood up. “Is that how you feel? That you’ve wasted the last ten years?”

“Yeah… I think I should have focused on being happy and that would have meant staying with you. The music would have happened eventually. Then I would have had it all. Now I have the music and regrets,” Caitlin said as she pushed herself off the bench and stood beside Emma.

Emma smiled weakly, not willing to commit to saying that Caitlin had her, that she’d always had her even if they weren’t really together.

“I got you something… It’s hidden in my suitcase upstairs.”

Emma’s hand slipped into Caitlin’s as they made their way up the stairs to Caitlin’s small childhood bedroom.

Emma bent down to find the package and handed it to Caitlin. “I didn’t know if I’d see you either for Christmas or if we’d even be speaking but I put this together in November. I was just waiting for the right time to give it to you.”

Caitlin held the wrapped square package in her hands. “Thank you…”

  “Open it.”

Caitlin sat down on the edge of her old bed and peeled away the red and green wrapping paper. She held a black leather book in her hand, a photo album. She opened it and found a handwritten note on the inside of the front cover.

  Caitlin,

I know you’ve probably forgotten about most of these nights, but they were some of the best nights of my life and to see how far you’ve come now… It’s amazing to look back on them. I’m just glad I was there to capture and share those moments with you.

I don’t think I’ve ever said it but I’m so proud of you and the fact that you went for your dreams.

Just don’t forget those early days.

  Love always,

  Emma

Emma watched Caitlin’s eyes move across the words and waited for her reaction and she was surprised when Caitlin looked up that she was blinking back tears.

  “Emma…”

“Just look through them,” Emma said as she sat down beside her on the bed and they went through the photos from some of Caitlin’s first gigs in college and in Philadelphia.

  “These are incredible. Thank you…”

  “You’re welcome.”

“I uh,” Caitlin started. “I’ve made a decision… Just today… Having you here with me and my family… It’s just like it was back then... I’m going to come out. Officially. I don’t care what my record label says.”

  “Are you sure?”

“Yes… You’ve always known me so well and you’re right… I’m leaving my personal life behind,” Caitlin said as she turned to face her. “And for what? I have a following… Even these last few weeks I’ve grown my audience. I’ll be okay… And even if I’m not, I’ll know that I made the right choice,” she said with a deep intake of breath. “And maybe… We could have another chance…”

Emma nodded as she reached for Caitlin’s han
d and smiled. “I’ve actually made a decision too… Just a few days ago. I’m willing to go with you… If you want me to,” Emma quickly added. “I think we deserve a second chance… Even before I knew that you were going to come out, I knew that I had to see where this could go…”
