Chapter 6
[The next week dragged on, but I received a few little gifts from William that had me grinning constantly. A blue bear came in the mail on Wednesday. I sent him a thank you text and received a thinking of you text back.
On Thursday, I came home to find a package of splendid gourmet hot chocolate and a variety of coffees. I called him and told him thank you just so that I could hear his accent. When he told me that he couldn’t get me off his mind, I happy-danced across the room. On Friday, a new pair of deep green, ultra-fuzzy pajamas arrived. I called him right away, but had to leave a message.
When he called me back, he said their color reminded him of my eyes when I became excited. I couldn’t stop grinning. Zoe teased me relentlessly about having a crush, but I could tell that she was happy for me.
William and I had another ‘pajama party’ set for Wednesday. I couldn’t wait. Tuesday, the day he was scheduled to get back into town, finally arrived. Then, he called to tell me that he’d been delayed and asked if we could move the date to Friday. He wouldn’t be back until Thursday.
I understood. There was nothing he could do about it. I was still extremely let down. Zoe offered to come over and keep me company on Wednesday. I sent her home after a glass of wine. I knew she was still trying to get pregnant even though she denied it.
I wanted one of us to have fun. Besides, I didn’t want her to know the true extent of my crush. I mean, William and I hadn’t even had sex or anything. How could I be in love with him if I didn’t know if we were compatible in bed?
I’d never understood how or why a couple would wait to have sex until their wedding night. It seemed so irresponsible. No wonder the divorce rate was so high.
I sulked around a bit Wednesday night before cleaning my apartment. The next day, I received another gift of gourmet coffee. This time, it had been shipped from England. I sent him a text again but didn’t receive anything back. That worried me.
I brewed a cup and waited anxiously for a response. After a couple of hours, he finally called.
“Have you tried it yet?”
“I’m drinking a cup right now. Are you prepared to keep me company all night if it makes me stay awake?” I asked him.
“Susan, I wish I was there to keep you company. I want to see you again in the worst way.”
Warmth exploded in my heart. “I miss you, too.”
“Look, I want to take this slowly. I’ve been hurt before and don’t want to go through that again. I’m sorry for just blurting it out like that but…”
“William, it’s all good. I’m actually glad you brought that up. I’ve been hurt too, and normally don’t rush things like this.”
“Oh, that’s such a relief. I’ve felt like I was rushing a bit with you and it’s been bothering me. I mean about sending all the gifts, but I just couldn’t stop myself. I really like you, Susan. You’re the first woman that I’ve dated in Portland that I’ve felt comfortable around.”
“I feel the same way. Are we still on for tomorrow night?”
“Yes. I’ll be home in the morning. Can you do me a favor and call me around three in case I fall asleep? It’s hard for me to sleep on planes so I have a funny feeling I’ll get home and crash.”
“Oh, sure.” Even though I didn’t want to break the date, I had to ask, “Are you sure we should get together tomorrow? Don’t get me wrong, I want to see you, but you need your sleep.”
“I need to see you more.”
That was so sweet that I had to bite my lip to keep from blurting out something really stupid and mushy. After we said our goodbyes, I ended the call and hugged myself while pretending it was his arms around me. I felt like a silly schoolgirl all over again.
****
The next day, I floated on a cloud of happiness at the thought of seeing William. Zoe teased me about it a bit, but sobered quickly and was a bit alarmed over my obvious cloud-nine state.
“Susan, you’re really into this guy a bit too much. Don’t you think you need to step back for a bit? I mean, this is only your second date.”
“I know what you mean, Zoe, but we both feel the same way. He sounds just as happy as I do and we both miss each other. Please do not spoil my happiness.”
She made a face, but didn’t say anything else about William. For the rest of the day, I made sure not to let my distraction over seeing William that night intrude on my ability to work. At three, I called him and was surprised when he picked up on the second ring.
“Hey, Susan. I’m awake. Do you mind if we order something tonight, though? I’m pretty exhausted.”
“Of course not. I can even pick it up on my way over if you like.” I told him.
“That would be great. What are you in the mood for? I’ll call it in around 5:30.”
I thought about it for a moment before suggesting, “There’s this great steak place on my way to your apartment. Are you up for steak tonight?”
“That sounds scrumptious. I like mine medium rare,” he said.
“So do I. Do you want any sides like a baked potato or anything?”
“Why don’t we get a range of items and then we can share?” He asked.
“That’ll work. Oh, I have to go. See you tonight.”
I ended the call and hurried after the nurse who had been pointing to Room 527. It turned out to be a machine malfunction. The rest of my day was pretty routine. When I reached home, I took extra care when showering even though we were going to take it slow.
I didn’t expect him to touch certain places, but you never know. I threw his gift of pajamas into the bag and set off toward his apartment. On the way, I picked up the steaks. When I pulled into his apartment, he was out the building’s main door within minutes.
He took the bag of food and hugged me. The feeling of his lips on my neck made my back muscles twitch and goose bumps flood down my arms.
“Damn, I missed you,” he breathed into my neck.
I squeezed him to me and knew I was falling for him. “I missed you too.”
We took the food inside and ate while he told me all about his trip. We even fed each other. I had brought some of the gourmet coffee he’d sent, so I prepared it after we ate. I really wanted him, but I also needed to take this slow because I was afraid having sex too soon would somehow mess our relationship up.
When he pulled me to him with that intense look all men seem to get when sex is on their mind, I placed a hand on his chest and said, “I know what you’re thinking. Trust me, I want to, but…I need to wait.”
A peculiar expression flitted over his face before a small grin and a knowing look replaced it. He nodded and assured me that he would wait for whenever I gave the green light. A huge grin spread over my face and I hugged him tightly.
Unfortunately, I had to work the next day so I told him that I had to turn in early. I hadn’t been getting much sleep. Sometimes, I wondered how it would feel to wake up and watch him sleep. That and frustrating fantasies kept me awake.
He swept a hand into my hair and asked if he could see me after work on Saturday. I nodded and asked if he’d explored downtown Portland yet. When he shook his head, I said, “Then, that’s what we need to do. Some of the best restaurants have booths downtown.”
“Sounds wonderful. Maybe we can come back here and watch a movie afterward?”
I nodded even though I could tell what was on his mind again. We’d have to see. I was off on Sunday. It was very tempting to just give in and think that tomorrow night would be THE night.
At his front door, we paused for a long, deep kiss. It was better than our previous kisses. Maybe that was because we were building up to sex. I don’t know about him, but the kiss put me on cloud nine again.
I put a favorite song on the radio and sang along on the way home while I wondered how we’d be between the sheets. By the time I arrived home, I was so damn horny that I had to jump in the shower and rub myself off. Then, I cuddled around a pillow until I fell fast asleep.
The
next day, William actually texted me to ask if I was available at lunch. I told him I normally lunched with Zoe but he was welcome to join us. At work, Zoe started to lecture me about moving too fast, but I stopped her. When she finally met him at lunch, she thought he was very charming, but still seemed reserved. I knew she just didn’t want me to get hurt again.
That afternoon, we walked around and sampled various foods while laughing over stupid stuff. I fed him a bite a cake at one point, which caused a heated moment when he sucked icing off my fingers. Our gazes locked and I knew that we would be tumbling in the sheets sooner than later.
Right then, I decided to set a date for it. Of course, I didn’t let him know my plans. After we’d walked for a few more minutes, I asked, “How about coming over to my place for dinner? Choose a dish and teach me to make it.”
“That sounds fun. When?”
“Depends on your schedule since mine is set. Will you be in town next week?” I asked him.
“Yeah. I shouldn’t have to leave town again for another few weeks. At least, I hope they don’t send me on another trip. They’re exhausting.”
He sniffed the air suddenly and moaned out, “What is that smell?”
“Funnel cakes. You’ve never had a funnel cake!?”
“No. What’s a funnel cake?”
I grabbed his hand and tugged while saying, “Oh, you have to try this.”
He fumbled with his wallet and dropped it. A picture tumbled out. I picked it up and looked at the lovely, poised, and obviously British woman. When I handed it back, he had an anxious look on his face even before I asked, “Who’s that?”
“Um…my sister. I stayed with her in Manchester. Let’s get that funnel cake.”
I didn’t think any more about it. We went and ate funnel cake, but he seemed sullen after a while. I asked him what was wrong, but he told me ‘nothing’.
The night ended with a quick kiss before he dropped me off. I didn’t know what to think. I was home for less than ten minutes when he called and told me, “I’m sorry, Susan. My sis and I had a fight not long ago. Seeing her picture brought it all back.”
“Oh, that’s okay. I’m glad you told me. I thought I’d done something…”
“Never. You bring me happiness. Can we continue our exploration of downtown tomorrow?”
“Sure. There’s a corner restaurant that makes the best pizza and fried mushrooms,” I told him.
“I can’t wait to try that. I’d love to talk more, but I have to go,” he told me.
“Okay. See you then.”
I ended the call and breathed a sigh of relief. Over the next several evenings, we explored downtown and talked about activities that we had in common. When I found out that he liked to bowl, I told him, “I know just the place. They have a neon setup and turn the lights off. Then, they turn on a fog machine. It’s a blast!”
He looked unsure. “I don’t know about bowling in the dark. I’m not that great at bowling to begin with.”
“Neither am I. That’s what makes it so fun. They serve beer, too, if you want to drink.”
He shrugged and said, “We can give it a shot. Do they do this every night?”
“No. Just on Fridays. Why don’t we plan our cooking lesson for Friday? That way we can go straight there afterward.”
He slowly nodded as if thinking it over, then blurted out, “That sounds fun.”
Since it was already Wednesday and he hadn’t said anything about having to travel, I asked, “Are you sure? I mean, we don’t have to if you don’t…”
“No, it really sounds fun. I just have a lot on my mind.”
I experienced a rush of anxiety for a moment and had to drag in a deep breath. I’d never felt stress over whether someone wanted to be with me. For a bit, I was second-guessing the situation. Something didn’t feel right, but I couldn’t figure out what it was.
It was still nagging me when I got home. I talked to Zoe about it, but she was distracted over their baby drama. I shoved my worries out of my mind and asked what was troubling her instead.
****
On Thursday, I went to work and managed not to spontaneously combust due to anticipation over seeing William the following day. At lunch, he surprised me by showing up at the hospital with a funnel cake.
William, Zoe, and I ate it and drank gourmet coffee. He seemed like his old self, charming Zoe into a bit of laughter. He even made her forget about her baby issues for a bit.
The next day seemed to drag. I’d known it probably would. My anticipation over our night together was really getting to me. I hadn’t told Zoe or anyone about my plans. I still wasn’t sure that I would go through with it, especially since William had been a little distant lately.
When I got off work, I found him waiting at my apartment with all the necessary ingredients. My kitchen was bigger than his, but we still managed to bump into each other. He would slide a hand around my waist and tell me, “Watch yourself now. Wouldn’t want to spear you on my knife.”
The heat behind his tone made me wonder if he’d guessed my plan for later that night. Our heated flirtation continued. He was in such a seductive mood that, at one point, I grabbed him and kissed him.
When we broke contact, I blurted out, “I reeally like you, William.”
“I know you do, Susan. I really like you too.” He reached around me and adjusted the temperature on the stove while adding, “I wanted to ask you something but was afraid you’d say no.”
I held my breath and froze as he searched my face before continuing, “Will you go with me the next time I have to travel?”
“Oh…yes!” My heart was beating so fast that I was sure he could hear it.
He grinned and said, “Great. I wasn’t sure if I was pushing you too fast or not.”
The fact that he’d been worried over it spoke volumes. I understood so much more about his recent behavior. And that solidified my resolve to take our relationship to another level.
I happily followed his instructions on how to prepare everything. He let me do most of the work, but adjusted the temperature and checked a few details along the way. When I was finished, I had cooked Caribbean Jerk Chicken.
I had never heard of it before tonight. He picked a piece off and fed it to me. I beamed at him. It was excellent. I was so proud of myself that I did a happy dance in the kitchen. He pulled me into his arms and gave me a long kiss, then. Afterward, we took our creation into my dining room and ate. He had brought wine, but I was reluctant to drink much of it so I just sipped mine.
Once we were finished, I drove us to the bowling alley for the after dark bowling. As I’d told him would happen, we had a blast. I even drank a beer, which I rarely do since I don’t really like the taste. I needed something to calm my nerves, though.
William wound up driving us home. I was too tipsy from that one beer. I had giggled over his form so much at the bowling alley that I had a giggling fit on the way back to my place.
I sobered quickly when we arrived, of course. This was my moment of truth so I said, “I know I’m a little buzzed, but don’t think that’s the reason for me asking you to stay over tonight. I’ve thought about it all week. Will you?”
He leaned over to kiss me, but stopped short of contact with my lips. “Are you sure, Susan?”
“I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life.” I couldn’t believe I’d used that tired saying, but I was too nervous to think of anything but him.
He gave me a long deep kiss, exploring my mouth with a slow sensuality that crashed my thoughts. When we broke contact, he opened the car door and said, “I’d love to stay over, Susan.”
I barely remember walking into my apartment. My thoughts were on what was to come next. Hopefully, I would be cumming next.
The minute we were through the door, I pulled him to me for a hug and whispered in his ear, “Lose that shirt.”
“Yes, Ma’am.”
He tossed the shirt onto my sofa. I immediately ran my hands over his ches
t. I loved that he had a sprinkling of chest hair. He slid his fingers around the nape of my neck and lightly stroked, sending a shiver through me.
“Let’s take this into the bedroom,” I told him. After my last trysts with Campbell on the furniture and being chained to a wall, I wanted William on my bed.
He nodded and followed me into my bedroom. I grabbed a sheer negligee and said, “Get comfy. I’ll be back in a second.”
I slipped into my bathroom and freshened up before sliding the black silky see-through negligee over my head. I was already wet with anticipation. I certainly didn’t expect to hear the TV turn on through the door.
With a shrug of my shoulders, I peered at my reflection in the mirror and took a deep breath before opening the door. He was stretched, nude but with a sheet spread over his hips, and flicking through the channels.
I boldly walked over, took the remote from him, and then tossed it over my shoulder after I turned the tv off. My other hand thrust into his hair as he looked up at me. I don’t know if Campbell’s lesson in dominatrix-style sex dropped some deeply imbedded inhibitions or what, but William seemed to approve of my methods.
His hands slid under the negligee and cupped my ass cheeks. At the same time, he curled his tongue out and pulled me toward him. I was wearing lacy panties underneath but still felt the heat of his tongue on my clit.
Without bothering to remove my panties, he sucked at my clit while his fingers worked their way underneath the sides and spread my pussy lips. My fingers fisted in his hair, causing him to groan.
I gasped at the vibration made by that groan, which made him keep groaning. In turn, that sent pulses of tingles over my clit and down to my slit. The sensation was utterly delicious, so much better than any vibrator I’d ever owned.
My legs started to shake. He guided me onto the bed without breaking contact. His hands left my pussy and slid up my sides while his teeth and tongue almost sent me over the edge. The minute his fingers tweaked my nipples, I twisted in an intense orgasm.
