The Alpha's Kiss: Lost Omegas Book Six: A M/M Shifter Romance
Page 15
Byron repeated the motion, and Jay went up onto his tiptoes, his body clenching around the Alpha’s fingers.
Leaning in so his lips were right beside Jay’s ear, he whispered. “I think it’s time we took this to the bedroom.”
He slipped his fingers free and Jay turned in his arms, reaching up to kiss Byron’s stubbled cheek, then his lips. Chaste at first, then eager and full of passion, opening his mouth and encouraging Byron inside. Jay seemed to taste sweeter than the last time they’d kissed, the effect of his heat hard at work.
Byron let his arms slide down to wrap around Jay’s thighs and lifted him, the Omega eagerly wrapping his legs around Byron’s waist. Then he carried him from the shower and to the bed, laying him down in the center. They were both still damp from the shower, speckled with drops of water, but neither of them cared.
Jay spread his legs and Byron knelt between them, drinking in the sight of his Omega, chest heaving, pupils dilated, ready to come apart under his hands. He urged Jay to bend his legs and pull them towards his chest as he got himself hard with barely a stroke. Jay’s heat was having as much of an effect on him as it was his Omega.
He leaned over, lowering his upper body to bring his mouth to Jay’s again. Jay smiled up at him, wrapping an arm eagerly around him, his eyes focused on Byron’s lips.
Byron took advantage of his distraction and pressed against him, sliding slowly inside.
Jay’s eyes grew wide. “I can feel you inside me.”
He looked down at their bodies then back up to Byron, staring at him in wonder. “It’s like we’re made for each other.”
Byron captured his lips again, giving Jay a moment to get used to the feel of him within.
“We are made for each other. Alpha and Omega,” he said with a gasp, Jay’s body hot and tight around him.
He braced his hands either side of Jay’s shoulders and slowly pulled out before just as slowly thrusting back in. Jay’s eyes didn’t leave his, the Omega holding his breath. When Byron moved again, pulling out then pushing back in, picking up the pace, Jay sucked in a deep breath, then panted. Byron’s next thrust sent Jay’s eyes rolling and his hips lifted off the bed. He grinned and pulled Byron down for another kiss.
“Faster, please.”
And Jay only used words when he really wanted something.
Byron was happy to comply. He upped his pace, careful to try to hit that spot inside Jay that made his gasp each time. Jay clung to him with his hands and his knees, as if trying to draw Byron closer, deeper.
There were no more words, just actions, his body thrusting into Jay, Jay tightening around him again and again, their sweat soaked bodied crying out for more as Byron peppered kisses across Jay’s neck.
Jay tried to speak, his head thrown back, his toes curling as he came with a shuddering gasp. The rhythmic clenching of his body brought Byron to climax with him, the Alpha burying his face into the crook of Jay’s neck with a cry, before pressing his mouth into that soft skin and biting down.
Jay gasped a second time, his fingers scrabbling against Byron’s back before he went limp. Byron lifted his head and Jay was smiling at him, sated and sleepy. When Byron went to get up, he made a little noise of discontent.
“Just a minute. We could use a towel or two.”
He returned with a washcloth and a dry towel, cleaning them both up and drying off Jay’s still damp hair. He changed the blanket for good measure. Jay was half-asleep and watching him with impatient amusement.
When he finally got into bed, Jay latched onto him tightly, pressing a sleepy kiss to his cheek.
“Mine.”
It was Byron’s turn to smile as Jay wrapped a possessive arm around him. Who had claimed who?
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Getting home to Glenoak wasn’t an anticlimax exactly, but Adam didn’t feel the rush of relief he’d been expecting. Even though they’d only been gone a few days, there was a noticeable change in Casey, who pushed past the small crowd that had gathered and fell to his knees next to his brother. Duncan threw his arms around him and they spent a long time holding each other. It was a while before anyone realized that the two were talking, so quietly that no one could hear unless they were right beside them. The others kept their distance, giving them some small measure of privacy.
Their reunion with Xander was the opposite, loud and joyful. Their Alpha son greeted all three of them like they’d been gone for years rather than days, he and Noah clinging to one another as they laughed and chattered. Adam and Ben knelt beside them and joined in the hug, their family reunited once more.
“How about we all go inside and I’ll check the kids over,” Alicia said after a few minutes.
“And then can we have ice-cream?” Xander asked.
And just like that, they were home.
That evening, they sat in the kitchen. They’d got all the kids into bed and Ro was upstairs keeping an eye on them while James gave them an update. Adam sat around the kitchen table with Ben, James, and Seb. Alicia had put Luke on bed rest for a day as a precaution after all the exertion.
“So, the Pack Council have taken control of Gray Valley. Terrance is dead and his surviving family have fled north. Ben, they’ve asked your cousin to step in as provisional leader.”
“He’s a good choice,” Ben replied. Adam tried to read Ben’s expression, expecting disappointment, but all he saw was relief.
“If you’re going to make a claim, you’ll want to head to Gray Valley right away.”
Ben sat back in his chair, reaching for Adam’s hand.
“My family needs me right now. I can’t be in two places at once and I won’t choose a Pack I left a long time ago over my mate and children.”
“Fair enough,” James said but there was a tension in the air that Adam knew he had to address.
“I’m sorry for bringing Luke with me when I went looking for Tobias. It wasn’t fair to put him in danger like that.”
There was a moment that stretched on so long Adam thought James wasn’t going to acknowledge his apology.
“Luke said you didn’t want to take him along but he wouldn’t let you go alone.”
“I still shouldn’t have let him come with me.”
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but your brother has one hell of a stubborn streak. You’re right that I’m angry you took off like that. Of the two of you, you're the one with more life experience, the one I expected to have more common sense. And part of me is just pissed the way any Alpha is when their mate and child are put in danger.”
Adam nodded at that; James words were fair.
“Luke says you two talked, really talked, about the stuff you’ve both been trying to pretend isn’t there. It’s the start of a long healing process. And I am so fucking proud of you both for standing up to Tobias and getting those boys out of there safely.”
It was rare to hear James curse and just spoke to the strength of his emotions.
“That goes for me, too,” Ben said. “When we walked into that room and you had your jaws around Tobias’ throat. I’m not sure I’ll ever get that image out of my head. That you could do that, after everything he put your through…”
“It was for Noah. For Xander. For you. When I look at our children, when I look at us, there’s nothing I can’t do.”
“I don’t doubt that,” Ben replied, squeezing Adam's hand tightly.
“So where do we go from here?” he asked.
“I have some ideas about that,” Seb replied.
Adam sat back, hand in hand with Ben, and listened as Sebastian talked about the future.
It was like being new parents again. Adam didn’t want to let Noah or Xander out of his sights for the first few days. Ben was just as bad. The twins slept in their bed, cocooned between them. Casey and Duncan were right across the hall. Though they’d given them separate beds, the boys weren’t used to sleeping alone. It was decided that they’d stay in the Pack house while they settled in but the toughest part
was convincing Casey to let them take care of both him and Duncan. Casey was protective of Duncan and wary of them but grew gradually less so as he watched how they treated Noah and Xander.
Ben realized they were finally getting somewhere when the creak of the bedroom door woke him at three am. He sat up and turned, conscious of his mate and children asleep next to him. It was Casey and, hiding behind him, Duncan.
“Hey,” Ben whispered, his voice rough with sleep. “Are you guys okay?”
“It was my fault,” Casey said. “I should have made sure Duncan went to the bathroom before he went to sleep.”
“He wet the bed?” Ben guessed.
“You won’t be mad at him, will you?”
There was a hint of challenge in Casey’s expression but behind it lay a mountain of fear.
“No, no, of course not. Kids wet the bed all the time. It’s just a thing that happens and it’s no one’s fault. Will you let me help you?”
Casey nodded, some of the wariness leaving his expression.
As Ben climbed out of bed, a sleepy voice called after him. “Papa?”
“It’s okay, Noah. Go on back to sleep. I’m just going to help Casey and Duncan. Xan and Dada are here with you.”
Noah’s tired eyes found his, a smile crossing his face before he sank back to sleep.
He followed Casey and Duncan across the hall to their room. Ben flicked on the light switch, getting a better look at the two of them. Duncan had tear-tracks down his face, his little shoulders heaving with each breath.
“Hey, hey,” Ben said, crouching next to him. “It’s okay. You had an accident, that’s all. Let’s get you changed into something dry.”
Casey followed his every move as he carried Duncan into the bathroom, cleaned him up, and changed him into a pair of dry pajamas. The last thing he did was take a warm washcloth and wipe it gently across Duncan’s face.
“No more tears, little wolf. Let’s get you back to bed.”
He stripped the bedclothes from the first bed, throwing them into the laundry basket, then checked that the second bed was okay for the boys to sleep in.
When he turned around to tell the boys to climb in, Duncan held his arms up. Ben picked him up, like he’d do for the twins, and Duncan smiled shyly before hugging him.
“I like you,” he whispered. “You’re nice and you don’t yell.”
“I like you, too, Duncan. Why don’t I lay you down and you can get some sleep?”
He pulled back the covers and settled Duncan into the bed. Casey climbed in after him but he didn’t lie down. Ben sat on the edge of the bed and the two of them watched as Duncan settled.
“Thank you.”
“For what?” Ben was curious what his answer would be.
“For being nice to him. And to me.”
“That’s what being in a Pack is all about. Having people to look after you, to care about you. But it’s more than that. You’ve had to take care of each other for a very long time. I hope, soon, you’ll learn to let us take care of you. The way we take care of Noah and Xander. The way Seb and Ro care for Nathan.”
Casey looked equal parts puzzled and thoughtful at his response, laying his head down on his pillow.
“Like parents?” He spoke as if the word was new to him.
“That’s right, like parents.”
The corners of Casey’s mouth turned up, the Omega giving him a small smile.
“Get some sleep, Casey. We’re right across the hall if you need anything.”
He stood and turned, finding Adam watching them from the doorway. His mate reached up and flicked off the light switch and they both stepped out into the hallway.
Things between them were still unsettled but they hadn’t had time to do anything about it, too focused on the twins and their new charges. What would Adam think of what he’d said to Casey? There’d been no decision made by Seb on what would happen with the two Omegas. Was he wrong to promise the boys a family? Especially given all his own had gone through.
Adam’s hand stopped him as he moved towards their room.
“Ben?”
“Yeah?”
Adam hugged him tightly.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.” He closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling of having his mate close, safe in his arms.
“What you said, to Casey-”
“Those boys need a family. They need people to look out for them.”
“What about Gray Valley?”
“It’s in the hands of the Pack Council now. They don’t need me. But you do, and the twins.”
“And Casey and Duncan.”
“You always wanted a big family,” he joked.
That brought a smile to Adam’s face. They went back to bed, Ben keeping an ear out for any noise from across the hall.
Chapter Thirty
They stayed in the Pack house for almost a month until things had settled down enough for them to return to their house. They took Casey and Duncan with them. Ben knew Ro and Seb were keen to play a part in raising the boys but with Nathan still so young and Ro expecting his second child, it made sense for the boys to come home with them.
Noah had gone from strength to strength since they’d got him home. James had sent over a play therapist, Melanie, who worked with some of the kids Fenrir’s Warriors had rescued. She was human but well versed in the shifter world. Noah got on with her like a house on fire, given their shared love of coloring and wooden blocks.
She saw Duncan and Casey, too. While Duncan seemed in awe of her, Casey didn’t take to her one bit. Adam hadn’t taken to Kelly, the art therapist, either. James had a few other names up his sleeve and Ben was hopeful they’d find someone for both of them.
They’d only been back in their house for a week when Adam tracked him down in the garden one morning. It was clear his mate was upset, pacing back and forth beside him.
“Adam?”
“This isn’t a good time. We’ve only just got the kids settled, and we’ve got four to look after instead of two and they need so much from us.”
“Adam!”
The Omega turned to him. “It’s early.”
“What is?” Though Ben could guess the answer from Adam’s scent alone.
“My heat.”
Bad timing indeed.
“Okay, well, we’ll manage. The kids can go back to the Pack house. We’ll divide our time between here and there as best we can to keep their routine. It’ll all be okay.”
His words didn’t soothe his distressed mate.
“But I really wanted a baby.”
They’d wanted a baby. It had been their plan before the situation with Gray Valley had become so urgent. They felt the twins were old enough and they were ready to go again. But it was like a decade had passed since that conversation, instead of just a few months.
“Well, what do you want to do?” Ben wasn’t sure where the conversation was going, hadn’t given a thought to something he believed was months ahead of them.
“It would be selfish, wouldn’t it? We have two already and they’re still so young. And Duncan, too. Casey’s in the middle of puberty and he’s had such a rough time of it. It wouldn’t be fair to bring a baby into this.”
“But you still want one?”
He nodded, his face a mask of misery. Ben held him close, feeling the fast beat of Adam’s heart. He gave himself a minute to think about it, to really think. He’d been so certain of his feelings a few months ago. And now?
“So do I. So let’s do this together.”
“Even if it’s twins again?”
Ben laughed and kissed Adam’s cheek. “We should be so lucky.”
Ro and Seb came over to collect the kids. Ben had half expected tantrums but other than a few questions from Noah, and Casey giving them some curious glances, they hopped easily into the car as Ben and Adam waved them off.
“I could ask Alicia to sedate me through it,” Adam suggested as the car drove out of view.
“Risking your life and health in the process? No, Adam, that is not an option.” Ben turned to his mate, shaking his head.
“It’s my choice-” His blue eyes flashed with anger.
“Our choice. We’re in this together, remember?”
Adam grumbled something under his breath.
“Was it really so bad the last time?” Ben asked, trying to inject some levity into the conversation.
“You know it wasn’t. I always enjoy my heats.”
“So why will this be any different?”
Adam huffed, his shoulders falling. “I just feel so guilty leaving the boys…”
“They seemed happy to be on their way to Seb’s. Plus, we’ll go there for dinner tonight and be there for their bedtime. And first thing tomorrow when they get up. It’s not like we won’t see them for three days straight.”
Adam still didn’t look convinced.
“We need this, Adam, both of us. There’s still a space between us. I don’t want it to be filled with guilt or anger. I want to fill it with love, with our bond.”
“Make up sex is the best sex,” his mate said out of the blue.
Ben laughed, catching Adam’s hand and tugging him towards the house. “There is that, too. We’ve had enough fights to know.”
Adam gave in, letting Ben guide him into the house.
“You’re overdressed,” he complained, taking in Ben’s jeans and t-shirt.
“All in good time, Adam. You’re always so impatient.”
“You’re one to talk. You want everything done five minutes ago.”
“Not this. I plan to take my time.”
Adam felt unexpectedly shy when they got to the bedroom. It wasn’t like they hadn’t done this hundreds of times before. It wasn’t like Ben didn’t already know every inch of his body. Under Ben’s hands he’d learned to love sex. From the simplicity of how good it felt, to the complexity of what it meant for him and Ben and the new lives it had given them.
But he and Ben had said things, done things, that had pushed them further apart that they’d been since they’d mated. How to close that distance and let go of the hurt?
