“Oh, there was never any fear of that.” She dimpled and looked over her shoulder. “Aunt Esme would never cause a scene in a church. Besides, she’s decided you’re not so bad. She doesn’t say it, but she’s looking forward to another grandniece or nephew.”
He put his hands on her still-flat stomach. “It’s hard for me to believe we have a baby in here.” Hard for him to imagine being a father. But he knew one thing. He and Casey were going to love this child, and each other.
“You’d believe it if you had my morning sickness.” They both laughed. She rubbed her cheek on his shoulder. “The wedding was beautiful, wasn’t it? I don’t think I’ve ever seen Megan so excited.” She sighed, but he didn’t think she sounded content.
“What’s wrong?”
“You know me already, don’t you?”
He turned her around. “Are you regretting we got married so soon?”
She put her hand on his cheek. “No, of course not. What about you? Do you have any regrets?”
“Not a single one,” he said, turning his face into her palm and kissing it.
“I’m glad we didn’t have to wait. Having you with me is going to help when…when Noelani Hana comes to town.”
“You heard something?”
She nodded. “Jackson called this morning while you were in the shower. She’s coming a few days after we get back from our honeymoon. Shelbourne is anxious to read the will. I’m dreading it. We have no idea how Duke left things, not anymore.”
Nick frowned. “I knew we shouldn’t have told Jackson where we were going. Couldn’t he have waited to tell you when we got home?”
“I think he wanted to give me time to prepare myself. He didn’t want to hit me with the news the minute we got home.”
“Stop worrying so much. Maybe she won’t be as bad as you think.”
“Maybe.”
She still looked doubtful, so Nick decided a little distraction was in order. He slipped his hands inside her robe and cupped her breasts, rubbing his thumbs across her nipples.
Her eyes clouded and she gave a tiny moan. “What are you doing?”
“I’m about to make love to you. Much more fun than worrying about things we can’t do anything about, don’t you think?”
“Definitely. I love you, Nick.”
“I love you, too,” he said, and kissed her tenderly.
Then he took her inside and made love to her until neither one of them was worried about anything.
