  “Tessa kind of a lame crowd tonight and no one is singing along. Go get them started and dinners on me” Josie smiled.

  “Dinner is always on you Josie, alright any requests?” Tessa asked.

  “Joplin baby” she said.

  Of course that was her aunt’s favorite. Tessa kissed Luke and ran up to Karaoke Joe.

  She stood and the music started, she grabbed the cordless mic and sang. The locals went wild; it was one big happy family, she bowed and handed the mic to Joe. “One more Tessa?” he asked.

  “For you Joe, pick one for me,” Tessa smiled.

  He played Carrie Underwood’s Undo it. She started singing and brought a chair up on the dance floor and made Luke sit there. She sang and danced around him and ended with her foot on the chair between his knees. Luke smirked and watched her the entire time. Tessa took his hand and pulled him up to her and kissed him in front of everyone.

  Luke walked over to Joe and whispered in his ear, Joe smiled and handed him a microphone “Tessa Ross, come back up here baby,” he said and everyone cheered. She walked up and looked at him “Sing with me baby?” Luke asked.

  “You sure about this,” Tessa asked laughing.

  “Hell no but I am going to try,” Luke said and laughed.

  Picture by Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock started. She laughed and so did he. He sang to her and her to him, they hugged at the end and he twirled her around.

  Dinner was on the table when they got back. Prime rib and chicken parmesan were on platters in the middle of the table and they all had salads. Josie took Tessa aside. “He is beautiful Tessa, and funny and looks at you like he is head over heels.”

  “He isn’t alone Aunt Josie, I am head over heels in love with him,” Tessa said beaming.

  “Be careful baby girl, I don’t want to see you knocked up before you graduate,” Josie said.

  “We haven’t had sex Aunt Josie, and by the way why aren’t you having this talk with Jade?” Tessa asked laughing.

  “Has she?” Josie asked.

  “No,” Tessa said.

  “He’s living with you all right?” Josie asked.

  “Yep,” Tessa said.

  “That’s why I am talking with you and not her. Besides he is quite flirtatious, he made me blush,” Josie said and they laughed.

  The girls went up and decided to sing together, “Never Gonna Get it” by En Vogue. When they finished they all laughed, “Phoebe you can sing girl,” Tessa said.

  “Pretty good to hu?” Phoebe said smiling.

  They dropped everyone off and went home, Alex jumped out, “You got five minutes.”

  “Did you have fun tonight?” Tessa asked.

  “I had a great time, and now we have jobs,” Luke said and smiled.

  She leaned over and kissed him, “I Love You”.

  “I love you,” Luke said and kissed her again. His hands started moving and she slapped them, it surprised both of them, they laughed. He kissed her and put his hands in the air, he stopped briefly, “It’s Friday,” and kissed her again this time with more passion. She touched him and he moaned, he followed her lead and she lightly groaned. She climbed over the console and sat on his lap, her phone chimed.

  -Dad’s up, you better come in…Alex

  She read and let out a disappointing moan. “Dad’s awake we need to go in,” she said and pulled away from him.

  His hands still moved and he bent down and kissed them, “Goodnight girls,” Luke said. She laughed and opened the door climbing off him.

  She looked down and smiled “Need a minute?”

  He leaned his head back, “Yes baby,” he moaned.

  Tessa went in and John was in the recliner, “Josie called said she gave you and Lucas jobs?’

  “Yep,” Tessa said and laughed.

  “What’s so funny,” John asked.

  “Lucas has never had a job in a kitchen,” Tessa said and laughed. “She didn’t care because she thinks he’s cute.”

  John laughed, “He’ll do fine just tell him to be careful, she’s a cougar,” they laughed and Luke walked in, he heard him.

  “I will be careful,” Luke said and smiled as he walked in.

  “You kids need to get to bed, big games tomorrow,” John reminded them. They agreed and all got ready and went to bed.

  Chapter 20

  Tessa was up cooking breakfast her hair braided in pig tails, Luke smiled as he watched her dance around singing Down with the Sickness by Disturbed as she cooked. She didn’t know he was there.

  When the song finished he clapped, she jumped and laughed loudly.

  “You are so damn hot all the time,” Luke said and kissed her, “Good morning.”

  “I made breakfast,” she said.

  “I love you,” he said quietly.

  “You better, wanna hear the Angry Monkey song?” she asked. He chuckled, she rolled her eyes, “Head in the game Luke,” she yelled and cranked the song. She was dancing up to him and he started dancing with her, “Damn boy can you suck at just one thing?”

  “Not in my nature,” Luke winked.

  John came in, he shook his head and grabbed a plate and ate as they danced around the kitchen, Alex came in and laughed, “Angry Monkey song Tessa?” she smiled and pulled him up to dance. Eventually the two younger kids came in and laughed. Luke grabbed Kendall and made her dance, her face turned red and Tessa laughed.

  When the song ended and Tessa turned down the radio, they all ate.

  When breakfast was over Luke and Tessa did dishes, John and Alex went outside to move equipment and the two little ones took Chewy out. “How are you doing Luke? You ready for today?” she asked.

  “It will be weird without you there,” he said softly and kissed her neck, “How are you?”

  “I am good, but I want you to kick ass today,” she said; “I will give you a prize when you get home if you win,” she smiled.

  “Really?” he said, “but it’s not Friday.”

  “It’s been Friday for two days,” Tessa laughed.

  “Okay, if you win I will let you,” Luke said and giggled.

  She smacked him, “Gee thanks,” she laughed.

  “Na I will think of something,” Luke raised his eyebrow and looked at her.

  “That look doesn’t freak me out anymore, it kind of excites me,” she whispered, he laughed.

  He kissed her and grabbed her butt hard, “You haven’t seen excited yet,” his hand reached lower until he was almost there, he picked her up and she gasped.

  He released his hand and pulled away, she was breathing deep shallow breathes and she took his hand and brought him to the bathroom, and locked the door. “Tessa what are you doing baby,” her eyes where wild and she bit her lip as she started to pull his pants down, “Oh God,” he said as she went to her knees.

  “You guys almost ready?” Alex called from the kitchen.

  “Yep just grabbing something be out in two,” Luke said as he reached for her, she slapped his hand and he laughed. “Can’t wait for tonight Tessa,” her face suddenly changed, “What’s wrong baby, are you mad.”

  “Yes at myself, this is crazy. I don’t think I will stop next time we are alone, it’s all or nothing Luke,” she said and looked mad.

  Luke took a deep breath, “It doesn’t have to be that way. I can calm down, sorry Tessa.”

  “Luke, don’t be sorry I want you more than anything I have ever wanted, I need you, I can’t even kiss you anymore without wanting more, I feel like I am losing it,” Tessa put her hands in her hair and wanted to scream.

  He hugged her, she pulled away, “Don’t do that Tessa,” Luke pleaded.

  “Seriously what is wrong with me?” Tessa asked.

  “Sit down,” he said and lifted her on the counter and lifted her shirt.

  They walked out of the bathroom and grabbed their bags off the floor. Tessa’s mom was pulling in. “Thank you,” she said and turned red.

  “The pleasure was mine,” Luke smile
d.

  “How does that work?” Tessa asked confused.

  “You’ll see tonight, we are winning this game,” Luke said and laughed.

  They walked outside and he hugged her, “Good luck baby,” he said and kissed her head.

  “You too, I love you,” Tessa said feeling much more relaxed.

  “You better,” Luke laughed.

  Luke, Alex, and Tommy were on fire and they won their game, there were all sorts of recruiters in the bleachers. The coach told them afterwards. As Luke walked off the field Sadi came up to him, “We need to talk,” she said.

  “No we don’t,” Luke said and kept walking.

  She followed him as he approached Alex and Tommy, she yelled, “I’m three months late.”

  Luke froze and quickly did the math in his head. He looked at Tommy and Tommy closed his eyes. He looked to Alex and they both shook their heads.

  “Did you hear me Lucas,” Sadi asked standing in front of him.

  Luke said nothing, he just looked at her.

  Alex and Tommy watched as she pulled out a test and handed it to him, she showed him a paper and his head dropped. Luke squatted down for a moment and stood back up. “We will talk later,” he said as he walked away.

  “When?” she demanded.

  “I am not sure,” he said.

  “Are you really living with her?” she yelled.

  “Yes Sadi,” he said and his face changed as he turned around, “And you better leave her the FUCK alone, got it.”

  “Yes,” she said quietly and walked to the bus.

  Luke walked past them and into the woods behind the field. He fell to his knees and cried. Tommy and Alex gave him space and waited for him. John watched as it all went down, he told the kids to get in the car and he walked over to the boys. He saw the fear on Tommy’s face, Tommy teared up, “I don’t know how he is going to deal with this, I don’t know how she is.”

  The girls bus was pulling in, “Alex take the kids to your Mom and take Tessa and Jade home, we will meet you there,” John walked into the woods and knelt down next to Luke and put his arm around his shoulders, “Son you’ll get through this. We will help you through this,” Luke shook his head no. “The girls just pulled in, give me your keys and let’s get you out of here,” Luke stood and wiped his face off. Tessa watched from the bus as John opened the back seat of the SUV and Luke got in, Tommy got in the other side. John drove past the bus, he looked upset.

  Tessa ran off the bus, “Alex is everything okay?” she asked.

  “Where is Jade, we need to go,” Alex said.

  “Alex you’re scaring me,” she felt her eyes fill up and she yelled for Jade.

  “Tessa what is it?” Jade asked.

  “I don’t know he won’t tell me,” Tessa said and looked at Alex whose eyes were filled with concern.

  “Phoebe can you ride with Becca? I will call you later,” Alex said and quickly kissed her head.

  “Of course,” Phoebe said with concern in her voice.

  ~

  The ride home was quiet. They pulled in and Tommy met them outside, “What’s going on Tommy?” Jade asked.

  They heard yelling from the house, “Lucas you aren’t going anywhere. Put your bag down son,” John said, “I gave my word to the sheriff, and you certainly don’t need to be going anywhere right now.”

  “No disrespect sir but I can’t stay here, I can’t see the disappointment in her eyes,” his voice cracked, “she has been through a ton of shit because of me, I can’t fucking do it to her again,” Luke said his tone very angry.

  “You have no clue how strong that girl is, right now you need people and well, you have us, go get your ass the shower and let me talk to her. I will help you get through this,” John said.

  They heard Lucas running down the stairs and the bathroom door shut. Tessa stood frozen, everyone was looking at her.

  John walked out the door and took Tessa’s hand and brought her to the deck. He sat and looked at her. “Daddy what happened, is it his mom? His dad, his sisters?”

  “No baby girl, they are all just the same,” John took her hand and spoke, “After the game the blonde, Sadi I believe, asked to speak to him, he walked away, she yelled that she was three months late.”

  Tessa looked angry, “She is lying Daddy.”

  “Well she handed him a paper stating otherwise, and what I assume is a pregnancy test,” he said, “honey Luke looked at it and walked into the woods behind the school and broke down.”

  “Are you sure?” she asked hoping he was wrong.

  “Yes Tessa and he is in a very bad place right now, can you try to keep it together for him,” John asked.

  “Of course Daddy I love him,” Tessa said and began to cry, “I love him so much,” he pulled her into his arms and she cried.

  “He has over two months left here Tessa, can you do that?” John asked, “because if not you need to tell me.”

  “He has to stay,” Tessa said quietly.

  “Okay then, let’s go in,” John said standing and pulling her up.

  They walked into the house and Jade was in the kitchen with Alex. Tommy was in the living room with Luke. Tessa walked into the living room, he sat on the couch with his arms crossed and his hat pulled down low. Tommy got up and hugged Tessa and whispered in her ear “You going to be okay?” she shook her head yes. He left the room.

  Tessa walked over to the couch and sat next to him, “How was your game?” she asked Lucas.

  “Seriously that’s what you are going to say to me right now Tessa?” Luke said laughing.

  “Yep,” she said and took his hat and turned it around backwards. He looked up at her through those long black lashes and looked back down, “So how was the game Luke?”

  He laughed uncomfortably, “It was great, lots of recruiters, and we won. How was yours?”

  “Good, we won too,” she said quietly, “What happened after Luke?” she asked.

  He turned his hat around and pulled it down, and she saw him breathing deeply. Tears flowed down his cheek, she wiped them away. She took his hands and kissed them, “You are going to be fine,” Tessa said.

  “How are you going to be Tessa? Hu?” Luke asked.

  She started to cry, “I am going to be fine,” Tessa said softly.

  He looked up at her and took her in his arms and hugged her, as they both cried.

  She sat up and looked at him and smiled, “We have really crappy luck,” and kissed his nose.

  “I am so sorry Tessa,” Luke whispered.

  “I am pretty sure this was not planned,” Tessa said and smiled. He shook his head no. “Okay then we need to come up with a plan for you.”

  He let out a breath, and shook his head, “God I love you.”

  “I love you Lucas, I will help you figure this out okay?” Tessa said. She wrapped her arms around his neck and took a very deep breath and slowly exhaled.

  Luke’s phone rang it was Sadi. He ignored it. He received a text immediately.

  -we need to talk….Sadi

  - What do we need to talk about?...L

  - Our child…Sadi

  “Do you need a minute” Tessa said and started to get up, he pulled her down and shook his head no. “Ask her questions Luke I am sure you have several.”

  -how far along are you? L

  - Well let’s see we had sex a week before school started, you do the math…Sadi

  - Two and a half months?...L

  -good job…Sadi

  - What are you going to do?...L

  -what do you want me to do?...Sadi

  -well let’s see it didn’t matter last time so what the fuck are you even asking me for this time. By the way, I personally took you to get you on the pill, what the fuck happened with that?!...L

  - should have used a rubber, guess it didn’t work, not 100% remember?!?! I plan to keep it…Sadi

  -so again, what do you want from me?...L


  -for you to be a man, basically the opposite of your father…Sadi

  -fuck you bitch…he started to write.

  Tessa shook her head “Don’t lower yourself to her level Luke,” Tessa said. “You are so much better than that.”

  -Ok you’re going to need to spell it out for me…L

  -First you need to get the hell off the farm and the farm girl, I shouldn’t be stressed right now…Sadi

  -Have to be here for three months, out of my control, as far as Tessa goes, I told you once today if I need to repeat myself here goes, LEAVE HER THE FUCK ALONE!...L

  “Luke don’t send that,” Tessa said softly.

  “Sorry already did” he said.

  -As long as you don’t lay down with the dog then I won’t do a thing to her…Sadi

  -You also need to tell your brother to keep his hands off Jake…L

  -Jake started it…Sadi

  -Time to grow up Sadi; you’re going to be a mommy in less than seven months…L

  -As if you know anything about parenting?!...Sadi

  “Luke give me your phone,” Tessa said and took it.

  -name calling does nothing, if we are going to parent a child together that needs to stop…L

  “Is that okay?” Tessa asked. He shook his head yes and she sent it.

  -Fine, I want you to be part of this pregnancy. And when your mom gets home I want to move in so that we can work on things and you need a job I want you taking care of us not your daddy…Sadi

  Tessa typed she saw his eyes starting to tear up again

  -lots of demands, head spinning, talk more later…L

  “Is that okay?” Tessa asked quietly he shook his head yes again.

  She pushed send

  -Yes we will, now and forever this bond can’t be broken…Sadi

  “I can’t ask you to be part of this Tessa,” he said as tears fell down his face, “I love you too much for this to be your life.”

  “It isn’t up to you,” she said, “But if that’s what you need, I understand.”

  “Can I please kiss you?” he asked. She knew down deep that this would be one of the last, she took his face and kissed him gently and he kissed her back, he lowered her lip and slowly explored her mouth, he put his hand up her shirt and caressed he breasts, she turned and straddled his lap and felt him beneath her. She quickly pulled away. “I’m sorry Tessa,” Luke said.
