“What do you think, Mrs. Darcy?”
“I think one could put up with a great deal to be mistress of this place.”
He smiled and answered playfully, “From what I hear, one would have to put up with a great deal. Is the master not known to be a proud, disagreeable sort of fellow?”
Elizabeth tightened her grip on him and let out a sigh. “He is perhaps disagreeable, but only when he does not get his way. These rich men are accustomed to such, you see. But he has no improper pride. He is indeed the best man I have ever known.” She looked up at him, and he lowered his forehead to hers.
“That is well, my girl, for you deserve no less.” His voice was shaky as he continued. “I will always strive to be the best for you.” He leaned in and kissed her gently, repeating his promise in every stroke.
“My dearest, loveliest Elizabeth,” he whispered into her hair as he pressed her tightly against him. “Welcome home.”

I owe a huge thanks for this revised edition to Jakki Leatherbury. Professionalism and enthusiasm are always appreciated and she displays both even when thrown curveballs. She is a joy to work with.
I also want to thank all the readers and fellow authors in our Jane Austen community. Your support and encouragement have seen me through the many times I have wanted to just disappear. Thank you for the (sometimes brutally) honest reviews and feedback. You have made me better and more determined.
Lastly, I want to send a special thanks to Cat Gardiner. I am proud beyond words of her courage, persistence and incredible talent. I am fortunate to be linked to her professionally and blessed to be her friend.
