I owe Diana Gabaldon a shout out too. She’s the author of the Outlander novel and the creator of the original Jamie Fraser. If you haven’t read the book, I envy you. A wonderful world awaits.

Lochalshie is a made-up village—much easier to write about places if you make them up—but it is loosely based on Arrochar in Argyll & Bute. It’s a beautiful place. Visit if you can.

If little Ms Mena inspired you to open your own home to a cat, can I urge you to adopt and not shop? There are cats in shelters everywhere and they all long for a forever home. I’ve had rescue cats all my adult life and they have brought me tremendous joy.

As I grow older, I’m increasingly conscious of how fortunate I am family-wise. Lovely sisters, a lively mum who has always made us her focus, and a husband who keeps paying the bills while I promise him at some point we will do our weekly food shop at Waitrose or Marks and Spencer’s instead of Aldi because I make enough money through my book sales.

This book’s been an experience—highs, lows, but mostly highs. I hope you enjoyed it.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Emma Baird works as a writer by day and night. In daylight hours, she scribbles blogs for people. When the sun goes down, she lets her imagination run riot and comes up with weird genres such as plus-size vampire erotica. At some point, she hopes the stuff she comes up with in the dead of night will allow her to write more of it during the day… She lives in Scotland with a patient husband and a demanding cat.
