  Chapter 1

Aris Corell stared at his father, Hydan Croell. He was listening to his father speak to him, but wasn't sure he really wanted to continue listening. His father was insisting he do something he wasn't sure he agreed with, or believed in.

He also didn't want a slave, or a wife, let alone both in the same woman.

They were standing in the main throne room in their castle. His family had controlled this throne and kingdom for over three hundred years, and Aris was next in line, as long as he had a mate to produce an heir with.

He wouldn't let his cousin claim the throne, she'd run their kingdom into the ground, but she had a husband. An unmarried heir couldn't take the throne, it was one of their royal traditions that had spanned thousands of years and no one felt the need to contest it.

  Until now.

Aris wished someone had. He didn't want to be shackled to a shrew of a woman who would never leave him in peace. His father paraded woman after woman in front of him over the last few months and each one left a bitter taste in his mouth, more foul than the last.

Egocentric, bitchy, wanting to run the show, and many of them trained in combat, they'd challenge him every step of the way and Aris couldn't lead their people if he couldn't even lead his own mate. None of them were ideal or suitable for Queen.

A Queen should be a supportive mate, silent, strong in her own quiet way, making her husband look good and having his back instead of constantly challenging him the way the females of his city would be prone to do.

His father was lecturing him on trying to find a suitable mate so he could take over the leadership role for their people. His father was sick and he wanted to see him married by the end of the star year.

Aris didn't need or want a woman. He could handle leading their people just fine without them.

Bossy, bitchy, pushy, and always demanding, the only kind of females he liked were slaves, but that didn't even mean he wanted to marry one. But if he had no choice and had to marry a woman, he wanted the kind you could shut up and use when you wanted them, and could ignore them when you didn't want them.

"If you don't want to pick one of our eligible royal females, pick a slave, I don't care. Just find someone." His father glared at him and then started coughing hard into a cloth, leaving a stain of blood behind. "I want to see you married before I die. Do whatever it takes. Or your cousin will inherit the throne. We aren't changing thousands of years of tradition because you're too stubborn to pick a wife."

His father walked over to the throne and sat down hard on the seat, his color leaving his face as he grew pale from the pain.

"Yes Father," Aris said hiding his irritation with being ordered to find a female.

"Our slave ships are leaving soon to acquire the next shipment, take your pick of a female and see if you like her enough to tolerate her presence. Pick one who will be okay being a supportive role to you, instead of trying to push you around like our royal females like to do. You don't have to pick a female who is constantly fighting you for control of the throne." His father said. "Your mother was a slave, and she was the best companion a man could have asked for, and she served our people well."

"Yes, but mom was a rare exception. She truly loved you. I don't know many females who could look past the throne to care about the man. Mother was rare. Most females aren't like her, you got lucky Father." Aris told the King and shook his head. "I will find a mate, but I won't marry one I can't stand."

"Aris, you're a smart man. I would expect you to pick a woman you actually like." His Father gave him a stern look.

"Yes father. I will do as you wish. I will meet the slave ship when it arrives and go over the merchandise when it gets here. I hope that meets with your satisfaction?" Aris asked.

"Yes, but the doctors don't think I'll live more than a year, so please don't waste any time. I wouldn't even mind seeing your first heir be born before I die. If you don't pick a woman from this next shipment, I will find you a mate and you will marry the one I choose." His father coughed more, leaving more spots of blood.

Traveling to other planets often caused diseases to be brought back or sickness that they otherwise would not have come in contact with. His Father had liked to go hand pick a lot of the slaves they brought back and haggle with other planets and colonies on prices and finding rare and exotic women to bring back.

Their planet, Sertapa, had very little sickness and having advanced medical technology and space travel, they normally could handle most illness they got exposed to. Whatever his father Hydan had been exposed to, had left the doctors completely stumped.

The King's last trip off planet had given him a lung sickness that their doctors who worked for the royal family couldn't cure, and he'd been grounded on their planet ever since.

His son was scared about losing his father, but Aris didn't want to show it, his father would cuff him upside the head if he showed emotions that could be used against him, even as an adult. It would be considered a sign of weakness and his people would question his leadership skills.

Having been raised his whole life to be King when he grew up, Aris was used to masking his true feelings and not showing any emotion. Anything could be used against you in politics and he had to learn to be a stone wall.

The only woman he'd ever tried to get close to, had ended up leaving him for another man in their early adulthood because he couldn't ever say I love you, or show her any emotion. He was just too shut off emotionally and self protective due to royal politics.

Amica had been unable to handle dating the royal heir. She'd been born to a lower class of people in their kingdom. Aris had seen her and been infatuated with her beauty. At first, she'd been flattered in his interest,
but as their relationship developed, she'd ended up in bed with one of his ship captains and he'd walked in on them. He'd almost killed the man with his bare hands, and had beaten Amica for her infidelity. He'd allowed both of them to live, but they'd been banished to the wastelands on the outside of their city.

After he'd washed his hands of them and walked away, he realized that he hadn't loved her and it was more of a pride thing. He didn't know what love really was, and he had seen the pain his father had felt when his mother had died in childbirth to his younger sister, who also had died shortly after the birth. He wasn't sure if that kind of pain was worth the risk. It seemed like vulnerability and not one a leader should have.

His father always swore that loving his mother had made him a better man, but Aris wasn't sure if he believed him.

Determined to please his father however, despite his reservations about the situation, he went to go find out when the next shipment of slaves was to arrive so he could make sure he was there to meet the ship.

  Chapter 2

Helena had been kidnapped from Earth, and was locked in a steel cage with a few other human women. They were stacked six cages wide on both sides of the room. The other side of the room had strange alien women who looked mostly human, but they didn't speak English. Some had jewels imbedded in their foreheads, or tattoos on their faces, and some had multi-colored hair that didn't look like a normal human color. Some of their skin tones weren't human-colored either.

For the first time in her life, she realized that humans weren't the only intelligent life forms in the universe and they'd been deluded this whole time thinking they were. Man, if Earth knew about this... Their planet would never feel safe again; they were clearly nowhere near ready for space travel and interacting with other species that had advanced ships, weaponry and medicine.

Helena turned to a young girl who was rocking with her arms wrapped around her knees and muttering to herself.

"Are you okay?" Helena said, going down on one knee in front of her and tried to touch her.

The girl rocked harder and Helena wondered what they'd done to her to get such a traumatic response where she wouldn't even look at her.

"She doesn't speak. They cut out her tongue." A girl in the cage next to Helena and stood up and stared at her. "She fought back."

"Who are you?" Helena asked her. "How did we get here?"

"I was kidnapped from Earth a few weeks ago. I've been on the slave auction a couple times, but no one's bought me yet. I try to be invisible. Best chance of survival. These men aren't like Earth, they'll sell you to the higher bidder and as a slave, you have no rights, and they see you as replaceable. Kind of like a pet cat I suppose. Well, I guess it depends on who buys you, some girls seemed to have enjoyed their previous Master's, whereas others are traumatized and been treated quite brutally. I'm Cindy. I was in college and was taking an alien studies class. Went out to watch shooting stars, and never made it back home." Cindy said, pushing her long blond hair back behind her ears.

Helena stared at her and nodded. "I was a blogger for my college. I wrote a gossip column. Everyone talked to me, or rather around me. I wrote it anonymously. Guess it doesn't matter now. I was walking home from a frat party where I was getting new dirt, next thing I know I'm in a space ship, and then I'm here and they are telling me to do as I'm told." Helena held up her bruised wrists. "I'm more of a peacemaker, so I'm not going out of my way to cause them any problems."

"Good, keep that up and you might stay alive. You look like their type, I'm too skinny for most of them, and the Alien males here seem to like females with more... bountiful curves. I'm a little too thin for their tastes." Cindy told her. "Never thought I'd appreciate being surrounded by curvy women, but I am. Keeps me safer."

"What do they do to us?" Helena asked feeling nervous, she had plenty of curves.

"Whatever they want to. If you get lucky, someone nicer buys you and you live in relative safety and peace. If you piss them off like she did," Cindy nodded to the girl with the cut out tongue. "Then it's a different story. I'm not sure what they do once they punish them that severely, normally they just make us skip a meal or hit us with a stick a couple of times."

Helena shuddered. "Do they expect.... well you know."

"Sex?" The girl laughed. "I wouldn't mind that to be honest, some of these alien men are pretty damn hot. They seem almost godlike in their looks, physiques and super human powers. Or at least compared to us they have super human powers. But getting picked for THAT, well... good luck. Most of the girls I've seen sold ended up being used to cook, clean, or slave away for snotty alien females who find no value in us, or not even worth being alive except what chores we can do for them. That's how she lost her tongue and got tossed back into the cave. Her Mistress was in here raging about it a few days before you arrived. She accused the slave of trying to seduce her boyfriend to get out of doing grunt work and household chores. She wasn't even mad about the slave trying to sleep with her man; she was upset that she didn't make her bed or her tea. I guess the girl stood up to her, lost her tongue and her position over it. She ended up here to go back on the auction block. She's been curled up like that ever since."

Helena felt bad for the girl, but she wanted to survive, and took the advice about keeping out of trouble. "So keep my head down and my mouth shut."

"Pretty much." Cindy told her nodding.

"Any chance of being returned to Earth?" Helena asked looking hopeful.

Cindy gave her a funny look. "Are you kidding? They won't take us back. Get used to your new life, Kiddo."

"I was afraid of that." Helena muttered and then sat down in the cage, slumping forward feeling lost.

"Not all hope is lost, try to find someone who doesn't seem like he'll hurt you and get his attention. You're cute, you seem pretty smart, and your life doesn't have to be horrible, even if you start off as a slave. Some planet cultures even marry their slaves or give them pretty good lives if they aren't total bitches. I know this new word is probably offensive to you, but their cultures and traditions are very different than on Earth." Cindy explained.

"How would you know?" Helena asked her.

"I've talked to a lot of girls who've come through here, some have been here for a while or been resold multiple times, it's not the worst thing in the world, some planets even have vaccines or serums that can prolong our life, imagine living two hundred or three hundred years, the things you can see and experience." Cindy shrugged. "There's always an upside to every situation if you try to find it."

"I admire your attitude." Helena looked at the girl who was missing her tongue and realized how bad it could also be for her if everything went wrong, and frowned.

"Get to know the situation before you open your mouth, unlike stupid over there. She thought because she came from a rich family on Earth she could make a demand here, that's where it got her. Make sure whoever buys you wants you to be opinionated and speak up before you open your mouth, and don't try to run away. If you try to run away, there's no way to get back to planet Earth, and if you try to escape, it's often a death sentence. Just don't be stupid." Cindy warned her. "No one will rescue you; you are a long way from home. You are completely on your own."

"I figured," Helena muttered and then leaned back against the bars of her cage and closed her eyes, trying not to let the sting of tears show.

"Slave number seventeen and eighteen." A guard called to the jailer in the room.

He walked over to Cindy and Helena and opened their cages with an electric stick that zapped in their direction when he pointed at them.

"You two are up, let's go." He told them.

Helena and Cindy exchanged glances and crawled out of the cages to follow them to the stage.

  Chapter 3

Aris walked onto the ship that had just gotten back from the slave auctions, and he was feeling pretty irritated with this whole process. Going down to the bottom deck where the slaves were being kept, he saw close to twenty women o
f various races down there.

He stopped when he got to a cage with two human women, and stared at them. One was thin and the other had curves, but they were huddled together and were ignoring him.

He motioned one of the women in the space uniform they wore when traveling in space, and had her mark these two women as the ones he wanted to be turned into the castle and the others could go ahead to the regular auction market for their city.

"You sure you want these two? I think they may be a little slow." The girl asked Aris looking surprised. "We were going to dump them in the laundry pits, we weren't sure they'd even get anything on our local auction blocks."

"That's fine. If they can keep their mouths shut and do what they are told, that works for me. Get them a translator chip installed and up to date on our planets vaccines before putting them in my rooms. I need to get back, I want them by tonight." Aris told the girl.

"As you wish your highness." She said, bowing to him and taking a step back to let him pass.

Aris wasn't sure why he picked both of them, but he was okay with his decision and left to go back to the castle.

When he returned to his rooms a few hours later, his father caught him in the hallway as he went to open the doorway.

"Can I meet her?" His father asked him.

"Will you give me a chance to get to know them first?" Aris said wanting to at least find out the name of the girls he chose.

"I heard you picked two, but that's an interesting reason." His father said raising a brow.

"Yes, well, they were both human, I thought she might adjust better if she had someone familiar from her own planet around. I don't want both of them." Aris said. "I just figured one of them would be a suitable mate, and that she might like a companion since she's not from our planet."
