  He began rubbing aloe in across her tummy, she gasped at the initial coldness but leaned into him as he carefully applied the salve to her scorched skin. “Didn't you put on sun block?” he censured.

  “I wasn't intending on staying in the sun that long,” she said, feeling her face heat at the reminder of what had started this whole mess.

  “I don't think we should go to the beach tomorrow like we planned,” he commented as he moved down to her legs, rubbing the aloe into her sunburned thighs. Her nipples hardened as his hands skated up and down her legs, coming in very close proximity to the apex of her thighs.

  “We can still go,” she protested, feeling bad that she had ruined their beach day. When he quirked an eyebrow at her, she added, “I'll bring the umbrella and stay in the shade.”

  “We'll see,” he replied. Which she knew from experience really meant no, but she was in no shape to argue with him. He rubbed more aloe between his hands and moved up to her sunburned shoulders. “Is the aloe making it feel better?”

  “Why are you so worried about my sunburn when you just lit my ass on fire?” she asked.

  “Compared to that, I barely notice the sunburn.”

  “No pouting,” he reminded her, as he finished applying the cool ointment to her chest and arms.

  She tried to turn again to direct his attention to her hind quarters, but he shook his head. She stuck her lower lip out at him which earned her a sharp slap to the back of her thigh. She let out a yelp.

  “Go get ready for bed,” he directed, pointing her toward the bathroom.

  She quickly brushed her teeth and took care of business before making her way back into the bedroom. When she got there, Nick was down on one knee in front of the bed. “What are you doing?” Her question died on her lips when she saw he held a ring box.

  “I was going to wait until tomorrow, but-” Nick's words hung in the air. He looked uncharacteristically unsure. As if maybe he had misjudged the whole situation and made a major blunder by proposing to a girl who he just spent the last hour thoroughly punishing.

  She had the fleeting thought that she should have made him squirm a little. She always envisioned the night he proposed would be more romantic. Flowers, dinner, maybe a nice walk down by the water, but something about this seemed more heartfelt and organic than any of those plans would have been. She launched herself into his arms, squeaking out a protest when his fingers dug into the swollen flesh of her butt as he lifted her off her feet.

  “I guess that's a yes?” he asked as he beamed back at her.

  “Yes!” she exclaimed, holding out her hand for him to place the diamond on her finger.

  “I thought I was a little insane for asking you now,” he admitted.

  “I'm probably a little insane for saying yes,” she said with a laugh and then let out a shriek as he tossed her onto the bed.

  Yes, she was definitely insane. Insanely in love with this man and his disciplinary ways.
