  Chapter One

  HARPER

I had heard Breaker Hughes cock was like a lion; big and fierce with a tip so hard that it would break you open within seconds.

“Are you thinking about his lion?” my best friend, Ella, whispered into my ear over the music with a suggestive eyebrow raise.

I tried not to blush and pushed her away from me. “Of course not!” Even though I was. Not that I could help myself since he happened to be staring at me from across the bar at that very moment.

“Why not?” She shrugged. “I sure as hell am.”

I took the chance to look the notorious biker up and down for about the tenth time since he had walked in a half an hour ago. He was only a few years older than me but already worth way more than I would be in my entire lifetime. Not that he made his money in the most morally correct way but that was a small detail in our city.

As far as everyone around here was concerned Breaker Hughes was a celebrity. The only thing more addicting than his perfect good looks were the dangerous stories that came along with his existence. He ran The Evil Saints, the most powerful motorcycle club New York City had ever seen.

“Come on, Harper.” Ella took a long swig out of her glass, finishing the liquid that was filled to the top only a few moments ago. “Someone that good looking shouldn’t even be allowed to exist, all it does is remind the rest of us how completely and totally average we actually are.”

I took in Breaker’s huge arms covered in tattoos, his deep blue eyes that pierced right through me even from across the room, perfectly squared notes, and arched cheekbones. His jet-black hair looked like it never had to be brushed and I didn’t have to see what was under that shirt to know it would make my panties turn into one big pile of mush.

She was right; he was pretty breathtaking.

“He’s okay, I guess,” is what I said out loud instead of the truth. “If you’re into that kind of thing.” The last thing Breaker deserved was another girl falling all over him; he had enough of those already.

Not that any of them had the tendency to stay around for very long.

He left them just as fast as he jumped into bed with them.

“Sure,” Ella told me, not buying it for a second. “And who the hell wouldn’t be into that kind of thing?” She waved the bartender over for another drink and pushed her long black hair over her shoulder, turning her green eyes on him. “I’m starting to think he’s following us or something, this is, like, the third time we’ve seen him in the last two weeks.”

I pushed the beer I had barely touched since we got there at her and forced myself to stop staring at him. “I’m sure Breaker Hughes has better things to do than waste his time following us around.”

“Don’t you mean better people to do?”

“Exactly.” I pulled the sweater I was wearing closer to my body, suddenly regretting the red dress Ella had convinced me to wear more than I had when we left my house earlier. “Are you ready to get out of here?”

“Get out of here?” A deep voice said from behind me. “You ladies aren’t leaving already, are you?” The guy behind us was around our age with blonde hair and a few tattoos running up and down his neck. “I was just about to offer you guys a ride on my new bike.”

Ella started giggling immediately and I rolled my eyes.

  Great.

“A bike, huh?” she asked, batting her eyelashes. “You know I was just telling Harper here the other day how I always wanted to ride on one of those things but I’ve always been too scared,” she bit down on her lip. “I’m Ella, by the way.”

“Trevor,” the kid said, eyeing her up and down.

“So, where is this bike of yours?”

“Right out front,” he gestured toward the front door. “Should we go check it out?” He glanced toward the other side of the bar where a bunch of his friends were watching.

“Oh, we should definitely check it out, I just have to make a quick phone call first and then I’ll meet the two of you out there!” She shoved my body toward him and smiled innocently.

“Hey!” I told her between clenched teeth.

Trevor shrugged and started to lead the way. “Cool.”

I turned around and shot her another look as he led me through the crowd and toward the front of the bar. “He’s cute!” she mouthed to me. This was typical Ella; she was always acting interested in a guy to get his attention and then trying to hook me up with him. According to her: I didn’t put myself out there enough and that was why I had never had a real boyfriend before.

The plan usually backfired since she was way more beautiful than me in an obvious way. Once we got outside Trevor would realize she wasn’t coming and I would have to make polite conversation until one of us found an excuse to nicely excuse our self and get the hell out of there.

Once we got outside I let my eyes travel up and down the street. “So, where’s this bike you’re just dying to show us?” I smiled, trying not to show how annoyed I was with Ella.

“Around back,” he gestured toward the back parking lot. “Come on.” He stuck his hands in the pocket of his jeans and took a few steps before he realized I wasn’t following.

  Crap.

It was one thing when I had thought his bike would be parked on the street with all of the rest of them lined up outside of the bar. Going to the back of the building in a dark parking lot with a guy I had just met sounded pretty sketchy. The last thing I wanted was to end up cut up in the back of some alley somewhere with my name flashing across the T.V. as a missing person.

Trevor stopped when he realized I wasn’t following him and turned around with a lazy expression on his face. “You coming or what?”

“Maybe we should wait for Ella,” I told him, unsure.

  “Come on, she’ll catch up.”

I glanced inside the bar but saw no sign of her. If I was being honest I knew she wasn’t really coming, either way. She was inside waiting for me, hoping that I would come back with some story about what a great idea he seemed to be and how I had got his phone number or made plans to go on a date with him.

“She’s good,” a dark voice came from the shadows before I had a chance to form a response. Breaker threw his cigar down on the ground and stepped out of the corner, revealing his perfect features into the dim lights of the overhead bulbs outside of the bar.

I hadn’t even realized he had followed us outside.

Trevor took a few steps back toward us, an annoyed expression on his face until he saw Breaker in the moonlight and then recognition and unsureness came across his features. He gazed back and forth from me to Breaker who was standing next to me now, a protective glare on his face. “I didn’t realize that she was spoken for.”

Breaker smirked and took another step toward me. “Well, she is.” He moved his large body in front of me and tilted his head to the side while he looked Trevor up and down like he was a piece of meat that had to be hunted and destroyed. “But if it’s a problem I’m sure we can step around back and figure it out.”

My heart started racing in every direction but I wasn’t sure if it was because of how dangerous the situation felt or because Breaker was so close to me. Either way, I found myself reaching out to steady myself on the arm
of his leather jacket.

My heart sped up even more at the contact.

Well, I guess that answered my question.

Trevor glanced inside of the bar again, probably trying to estimate what the chances were that one of his friends would hear him scream if Breaker took him out back and he couldn’t handle his own. “Na,” he said after a few more seconds. “There’s no problem here.”

“Good to know,” Breaker said, nodding toward the door of the bar. “Then you better get back inside to your brothers, don’t you think?”

Brothers? The realization that he was from a rival club dawned on me, no wonder Breaker was trying to step on Trevor’s toes. It clearly had less to do with me and more to do with some kind of turf war they had going on.

Trevor held his hands up and then walked inside slowly.

Once the door was shut behind him Breaker turned his intense stare on me and raised his eyebrows. “What were you thinking?”

“Excuse me?” I asked him, startled.

“You heard me,” he asked calmly. “Do you always walk out of bars with men who get off on taking advantage of the women and making them do crazy things for sport?” He titled his head to the side just like he had moments earlier but this time, he looked more curious than dangerous.

If he hadn't been being so infuriating I might have got caught up in how damn sexy he was all over again. “Not that it’s any of your business but I didn’t know he was the type of guy who would do something like that!”

“That’s just the point,” he pointed out. “You didn’t know anything about him.” He shook his head and let his face fall into a frown for the first time. “It’s just a good thing I was here.”

“Is it?” I challenged. “I mean; I don’t exactly know you either, do I?” I wasn’t trying to be a brat but this guy had it coming, he thought he could talk to me like one of the sluts he messed around with from his club. Well, just because he was Breaker Hughes didn’t mean he had the right to control every girl he came in contact with on a random occasion.

“Trust me, it was a good thing I was here,” he assured me, not phased by my sarcasm at all. “Were you just about to be heading home for the night then?” He took a few steps toward the street and stuck his hand out, flagging a cab down for me.

“Actually, no, I wasn’t,” I snapped. God, this guy had some nerve. “I was just about to go back inside. Is that okay with you, master, or would you like to order me to do something else?”

He leaned his back up against the cab that had pulled up right away from him and crossed his arms across his chest, allowing a cocky grin to come across his face. “Is that what you like, Harper? To be ordered around? Are you into calling me, master?”

I rolled my eyes. “Oh, don’t flatter yourself.” Of course, he would turn it into something sexual. I ignored the heat that was forming between my thighs at the thought and tried my best to push the notion out of my mind.

“You aren’t scared of me, are you?”

  “Am I supposed to be?”

Breaker shrugged before nodding. “Well, most people are.”

  “Well, I’m not most people.”

He let his bright eyes burn into mine. “You sure aren’t.” He didn’t say it in a sexual way, more in a matter of fact way, like I was informing him of something he had already known. But that didn’t make any sense; he had only just met me.

The feeling of satisfaction that overcame my body when I had seen him looking at me back in the bar came over my body again and I cleared my throat loudly in an effort to distract myself from it. “Yes, well, I guess I better get back inside.”

But when I reached the front of the bar the bouncer was standing there with his arms crossed over his large chest, looking down at me with an unsympathetic look on his face. “We’re at maximum capacity tonight.”

“But I was just in there!” I pointed out, looking past his body and through the glass door. “Besides, I can see tons of room in there!” But when I looked up he was stone-faced, looking over my head back to where Breaker was standing.

Of course, even the bouncer did what Breaker wanted him to do.

I swung around and stomped over toward him. “I’m sure you just feel so proud of yourself, don’t you? Controlling everyone from the safety of your big and bad club?”

“Ah,” he said. “So you’ve heard of me, huh?”

“Well, of course, I’ve heard of you, Breaker, everyone’s heard of you!” I pushed past him and pulled the door of the yellow car open, shoving my body inside. “You want me to leave? Fine, I’m gone! I’m sure I can find another bar more than happy to serve me.” I would text Ella and tell her where to meet me after, I was too angry to stand out there fighting with him while I waited for her to find the time to get outside. I didn’t want to give him the damn satisfaction!

Breaker shut the door behind me and leaned down through the open window, letting his brooding expression meet my pupils. “Well, you can try, but something tells me they're going to be all filled up for the night, too.” He winked at me and pounded his fist on the top of the car. “Go home, Harper.”

The car was already halfway down the block before I realized that I had never told him my name.

Yet, somehow, he had known it anyway.

  Chapter Two

  HARPER

“If you could just pull over up here,” I called out to the cab driver a few blocks later. “I’m just going to jump out here and call my friend to come and meet me.”

“No, can do, honey,” the man called out from the front of his cab, fiddling with the stations and changing the music every few seconds. “I’ve been paid a pretty good amount of money to make sure that you get home safe and sound.”

I dug my head into my hands and let out a muffled sigh.

  He was fucking crazy.

I had heard he was crazy but all this did was confirm it fully. He didn’t even know me, why was he so desperate to try and make my night hell? Was it some kind of sick game he got off on or something?

“I won’t tell if you won't,” I called out hopefully.

He laughed but shook his head just like I knew he would. “I think we both know that Breaker Hughes has a way of always finding out.”

I leaned back in my seat and glanced out the window. “So, you’ve heard of him, too, huh?” The buildings passed by us in a blur now; there was barely any traffic in this part of town at this time of night for once. I wondered if somehow Breaker could manipulate the traffic, too, it wouldn’t surprise me.

He stopped at a red light and glanced at me through the review mirror. “I would be happier if I was you, a guy like that paying attention to you? Why he could give you the whole world. All you have to do is ask for it.”

The whole world, huh? I doubted it. Breaker Hughes wasn’t concerned with anyone but himself. The only reason he had taken to me tonight was because he was bored. Clearly just looking for someone to entertain him for a while. I doubted he would remember too much about me come the morning light, he probably forgot me the second my cab had pulled away.

The light flickered to green but before we could go any further a motorcycle pulled up at the intersection, blocking us from going anywhere. A part of me thought it was Breaker for a second and my heart started to skip inside of me but once he jumped up I realized whoever it was had way too small of an upper body to be Breaker. Breaker was ripped and this guy… he was average.

He had his helmet off and the back door open before I could fully realize what was happening. “Get out of the car, now,” Trevor said, anger in his eyes.

“Hey, now, wait just a minute,” the older man driving said.

Trevor reached in and dragged me out of the car by my hair and slammed the door shut behind us. “Get lost, old man,” he snapped, lifting his shirt up to reveal a gun to the driver. “I’m not going to tell you again.”

The cab driver looked back at me helplessly and frowned, unsure of what to do. “Please, go,” I mouthed out to him.
The last thing I wanted was for him to get hurt because he was trying to save me. Trevor didn’t seem like he was playing around. The man looked back and forth between the two of us again before he sighed and then dipped to the right, leaving me standing in the middle of the street with Trevor.

“Smart man,” Trevor mumbled once the car was out of sight. He pushed my body toward his bike, dragging me behind him roughly. “Come on, bitch, pick up the pace, if I have to carry your ass you’re going to pay for it later.”

Who was he calling a bitch? I tried to pull out of his grasp but it was no use, even if he wasn’t as big as Breaker, he was still way stronger than I was on my best day. “Trevor, you’re hurting me, what do you… what do you want?”

“Do I look like I give a fuck if I’m hurting you or not?” he snapped, looking down at me. His eyes were dead now, much more angry than when I had met him back at the bar.

“What do you want with me?” I tried to push him off of me.

He sighed as I struggled harder his grasp. “I can see we’re going to have to do this the hard way.” He pulled his other hand back and smacked me so hard across the right side of my face that my vision went blurry for a second.

I gasped and let my hand fly to my cheek, shocked. I’d never been hit before in my life and it stung so bad that I felt like my teeth were about to pop out of my head. “What…” I trailed off, trying to push the tears out of my eyes. “Please, just tell me what you want?”

He stopped in front of his bike and looked down at me with an expression that told me he thought I was too naive for my own good. “I don’t want anything with you but Breaker clearly does and that makes you extremely valuable to me and my club.”

I swallowed the lump that was rising in my throat. “What are you going to do with me?”

He looked down at me evilly. “Whatever we want.”

Fear and sadness filled my entire body and my hand immediately flew to my neck and started fiddling with my necklace. It was a locket my father had given me just before he died and I found myself holding on to it in times of deep fear, stress, or happiness.
