The Highlander's Honorable Savior (Iron Of The Highlands Series)

Bonnie stared up at him. She felt her throat work. Nobody, not at any time, ever in her life, had said such things. She felt as if her heart was a garden nobody had watered, and suddenly rain had come.
“Yes,” she whispered softly. “I know. I trust you.”
His lips descended over hers. He was crying, she noted, as tears wet her lips. She sniffed and sat down on the bed. He sat down beside her.
As he kissed her, he worked at the collar of her dress. A wide “v”, the collar slipped down one shoulder. She tensed, feeling cool air on bare skin. She wore a shift below. Her shoulder was bare, the under-tunic slipping away with the sleeves.
She felt his lips on her shoulder. The touch was so intimate she gasped. Nobody had kissed her there, ever. She let him push her back a little, as his hands found the button behind her and worked the dress lower. Now, she realized, as he pushed her onto her back, both shoulders were bare.
She was lying below him and he worked tenderly with the cords that tied her shift shut. She gasped as it fell open and he dragged the gown, and her shift, a little lower. He was staring at her breasts.
Bonnie felt her body tingle as his eyes fell on her. She had expected to see leering stares, but his eyes were gentle as they touched her skin. She felt as if he gazed on her, not stared at her. She blushed.
His lips touched her skin and she gasped as he sucked her nipple. The sensation was so good, it made her stomach tense with surprise. He held her breast and worked the nipple carefully, pressing it and jostling it with his tongue. Then he worked on the other one, the touch so exciting that her body tensed.
She couldn’t believe how gentle he was being, the things he was doing. She had never thought anybody would do these things. He was undressing her again, this time pulling the gown gently over her hips. She felt drowsily that she was colder, the shift alone covering her lower body. Tenderly, he pulled it down. She felt cold air on her legs and knees.
The shift was on the floor now. He stared at her. She was naked.
Bonnie felt herself flush, but he smiled and his expression was so touching that she smiled too. He was staring at her body and she felt heat sear her with the touch of his eyes, so longing.
She watched him, wondering what he would do next. He undressed himself, leaving his trousers, and came and sat beside her on the bed. She wondered what he was going to do.
He kissed her stomach and she gasped as he laid a trail of kisses down to her belly button. His hand moved between her thighs and she cried out as he put a finger to the soft skin between them.
His eyes held hers and she felt a questioning stare. She nodded, her loins afire as he ran a finger down her folds, his touch gentle. He did it again, and she was surprised to feel a strange tugging sensation inside her, a longing feeling.
He pressed something in her folds and she gasped, a feeling so intense it was painful flooding through her. She had no idea why, but somehow, he had touched her in a way so wonderfully lovely it made her want him. She longed for him to repeat it and he did so, the touch even firmer. He seemed to be listening to her, for the harder she moaned, the more he repeated it, going faster and faster, making the motion stronger and…
She gasped and felt heat rising in her and then she cried out as something wonderful happened, something impossibly sweet.
She heard him stand up and looked up as he looked down at her. He was smiling.
She felt like a bucket of hot water had been poured over her, soothing and relaxing her. She smiled and felt drowsy. He lay beside her and she wrapped him in her arms and held him close, looking into his face. She had no idea what he had done, but his touch had brought pleasure and no pain, and she trusted him.
He smiled and rolled over onto his side. His legs were beside hers, and she noticed he had undone his belt. His trousers were off, and he was naked.
She was surprised that, as she stared at his organ, she felt no horror. She was pleasantly surprised by the fact that there was nothing distasteful about it. It seemed right to her, and strong, as lovely as any other part of him was.
He frowned at her again, and she nodded. She felt him move so that he lay beside her and then, gently, a knee moved to widen her legs.
She felt him roll onto her and his hips slid to lie over hers. He probed her and she shifted below him. He moved so that he filled her, inch by slow inch. He did it so slowly, so that she felt his thickness gripped inside her and had no fear, only a growing sense of wonder.
Once he was inside her, she felt a spreading heat. It felt so right, so good. It completed her in a way that she had not known she longed for until this moment.
He moved inside her and she felt the same feeling she had earlier, but far bigger. She bit her lip, not wanting to cry out as the feelings grew and moved through her, but unable to stop the odd moan of wonder sounding aloud and then she lay back, overwhelmed, as the same heat raced through and consumed her. He moved faster and faster, and she could hear the sounds of his release intensifying too and then, heaving a sigh, he collapsed.
Bonnie woke with a sweet warmth on her side. She rolled over and looked at Arthur, where he lay beside her in the bed. She wanted to touch his hair, where it fanned out on the pillow, but he looked so at peace. He was so beautiful, she thought wonderingly. She watched the slow movement of his nostrils as he breathed, the way his chest rose and fell, moving the hair that touched the pillow by his shoulder with the regular pulse of his life.
She felt such happiness that her heart almost stopped.
Lying back on the cushion, doing her best not to wake him by making any irregular sudden movements, she let herself feel the sensation of her own relaxed body. She felt good.
Her mouth twisted in a smile. She recalled how they had been together. Her heart filled with love and she rolled over and moved closer to him.
Arthur stirred and she tensed, afraid that she woke him. He rolled onto his side and then returned to sleep. She felt her own lids grow heavy, and she tensed and then relaxed as she grew more sleepy again.
She woke to feel his warmth against her back. She rolled over. He smiled at her. She felt his lips touch hers and she kissed him back, feeling the warmth of his tongue run across the cool skin of her mouth.
She pressed her body to his and was surprised by how aroused she felt. He seemed to feel the same way as she did, because he chuckled as she moved her body against his own.
He drew her close and she felt excitement rise in her as his organ pressed against her body and her thighs. She let him roll her to her side and was surprised that she wanted him already.
He entered her and they lay in one another’s arms, his movement gentle and unhurried. She sighed and held him and shut her eyes, feeling the tingling feeling start inside her again. She heard the gasp that came from him and smiled to herself, feeling happy that she could make him feel this way.
He started to move more swiftly, rolling so that he was atop her again. She felt the sweetness of his motion flood through her and bit her lip, trying not to moan with longing as he made his motions slower and more regular, then faster again.
They each strained to hold on for a second longer. They plunged together over that sweet precipice and, as she lay against his warm strength, Bonnie knew she had never imagined being this happy.
Epilogue
The snow fell, thick and fluffy, each flake blurring as the numbers increased until it seemed there was a haze of whiteness outside the windows.
Bonnie, sitting against the wall, drew her cloak about her shoulders. The fire roared in the grate. The window was high enough that the cold didn’t reach her where she sat before the hearth side. She listened to the crackle of the flames, and smiled as she heard booted feet on the front path.
“Lass, I reckon we have enough wood in here?”
Bonnie chuckled. She looked to the small stack of wood he’d built up before the fireside.
“I reckon so, sweetling.”
He chuckled. “I suppose I am being a bi
t daft.”
“Daft! No, you’re not,” Bonnie said gently, smiling as he came in and sat down by the fire, stretching his hands to the blaze. The firelight lit his features bright and she let herself stare at him, enjoying how good looking he was. He smiled at her.
“You feeling alright, my sweet?”
“I do,” she nodded. Morning sickness had been difficult, at first, but now, six months into her wait, it seemed to have stopped tormenting her. She felt well. She sat up, smiling at the concerned expression on Arthur’s face.
“Whist, lad. You would think nobody’d ever given birth before.”
He chuckled. “I’m sorry. I can’t help it, lass. I just don’t want for anything that hurts you to happen.”
“Well, I’m fairly sure it won’t be able to help hurting, a little,” Bonnie said with light chuckle, though in truth she was nervous too. “But it doesn’t seem to be all that dangerous. And I will have you to help me.”
“I’m no use with something like this,” he said, and she saw how much it was utterly contrary to his nature to say something like that. “But I can fetch help, as you need it.”
Bonnie nodded. Barra was close by, the farm not more than ten minutes away from here. If she needed Barra, she would be here in hardly any time. Arthur would be outside, ready to fetch help from the village, or anything they needed for her. Yes, she thought with contentment, nothing would be allowed to harm her, if Arthur could help it.
She smiled as he came and sat beside her on the wooden clothes box that, padded, served also as a seat for two people. His arm wrapped around her and she rested her head on his shoulder. He pressed a kiss to her nose and she chuckled and kissed his mouth.
He kissed her lips, the kiss growing in intensity so that she sighed and held him against her. He looked into her eyes, frowning with uncertainty.
“Lass, it is safe, aye?”
“Arthur,” she said gently smiling at him. “It’s only six months. It’ll be safe for a few months more.”
Arthur smiled, looking less worried. “If you say so,” he murmured, resting a hand on her shoulder. “I just don’t want to do anything that’ll harm you, lass. Nothing, ever.”
Bonnie smiled up at him. “I don’t think you would ever harm me, lad. Not on purpose, at any rate, and if by accident, then not much to make a fuss about.”
Arthur kissed her cheek. She felt a growing longing for him and kissed him firmly. As they stood up and went to the bed, she felt happiness fill her body like the warmth of the candle flames.
He smiled down at her as they lay on the bed. “I hope I don’t smell too bad,” he chuckled as he untied his shirt collar. “I was helping Mr. Hume in the barn.”
“Of course, you don’t,” Bonnie chuckled. He blushed and then she felt herself reach up for him as he pressed a kiss to her lips.
They made love, slow and gently, and she drowsed in his arms before the warmth of the fireplace.
The cottage was snug and warm, built during the summer months, the roof of the old storage barn made watertight. It was deliciously warm, with stone walls and a flagstone floor covered with rushes in a thick layer to keep out the cold. It was three rooms – their bedroom, a kitchen and a tiny entrance way where boots and cloaks could be stored, but it was beyond her wildest imagination from when she was little.
The farm was their home now. Arthur and Mr. Hume, divided up more of the labor every day. Barra and Bonnie had started their wool business and now, a year – or nine months – after their conceiving of it, they had made enough revenue to build a new barn for the sheep. Dyes and dye baths were stocked up in the old barn, ready to expand their wool business to a new market.
Scotland might be in a hard time, with their oppressive English lords installed and extracting heavy taxes, but, so far, the farm had escaped the worst, so prosperous that even these demands could not stop them from flourishing. They were selling their freshly spun wool to a wider market now than ever before.
Bonnie smiled as she rolled over and looked at sleepy Arthur.
“My sweet,” he murmured, kissing her cheek. “I am wondering what you’re thinking this moment. You had the loveliest smile on your face. What is it?”
“Besides thinking of you?” Bonnie smiled, kissing his cheek and sighing as he gently stroked a hand down her side. “I was thinking that I am the luckiest person alive.”
“You can’t be,” Arthur teased. “I must be the luckiest person alive. I have you.”
“And I have you,” she smiled, rolling over to kiss his firm lips. He smiled up at her and wrapped his arms tight around her. She felt a happy smile spread across her face and pushed him back on the pillows, making him laugh.
“We’re both the luckiest people, then,” she said, and he chuckled and wrapped his arms tight around her, pressing his lips to her hair.
“I agree,” he said.
