Tales Of An Alien Invader

by Michelle Brown

Resting my head against my pillow, I try to calm the thoughts racing through my mind. What will the Boptons make of my answer? Are all of the other 11 Years going to be heading back home? What am I going to say next time I have to report? My first mission is not going at all as planned. Before I came to Earth, I thought the answer would be a simple one. I thought I would know my decision within the first week I arrived. But now everything is so…blurry. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to be objective, and I fear I’m losing the logic that defines Boptons at the core of their existence. Or maybe the problem is I never had it in the first place.

It takes a long time, but finally I begin to feel drowsy. My thoughts drift back to more Earthly concerns, such as my upcoming history project and Aunt Shirley’s insistence that I learn how to cook. I need to get some sleep because Izzy and Ned are coming over early to show me how to make snow cones, something they both can’t believe I’ve never had. Smiling into my pillow, I close my eyes and fall asleep, dreaming of baseballs, snow cones, and friendship.
