Someone stepped forward out of the darkness.
“Welcome, our new arrival,” Gen said. “Welcome to our home.”
Dozens of voices echoed her. “Welcome to our home.”
Gen approached the new arrival. “You’re one of us. You’re part of us. This is your home. I’m Gen and I’m the Sovereign here.”
She took the new arrival’s hands in her own. “I know I’m breaking tradition, here, but I’m so glad to finally meet you. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.”
The new arrival looked curiously at Gen.
Gen smiled at her and took a step back. “Now, let’s see who you’re meant to be.”
She started a low chant in a language the new arrival didn’t recognize. The runes on the floor changed from gold to green and then to red.
“Garnet,” she said.
Gen smiled at her. “Welcome, Garnet.” She turned to the other fairies in the cave. “Welcome our newest – Garnet.”
“Welcome to your home,” the fairies said.
