Shara's Happy New-foundland Year Page 17

“It’s only a success because of Mack. If he wasn’t the controlling partner and in charge of the money, Dad would’ve lost it all by now.”

“I agree. When Mack decided to invest in your dad’s crazy franchise, I almost fell over. Such a relief he didn’t lose his shirt.”

  “Especially with a baby coming.”

James grinned. “You mean, little Shara Jayne?”

“So embarrassing,” Shara protested, though James knew she was excited. “I can’t believe they’re naming her after me.”

“I can’t think of a more beautiful name.”

Solomon made a squeaking noise that sounded like an angel’s song to James’ ears.

“He’s quite handsome, isn’t he?” So proud it hurt, James gazed at his infant son. “I’ve never seen a newborn this beautiful, not even David and Noelle’s baby.”

“Jude is adorable, too,” Shara said. “You have a little parental blindness. It’s a good thing, in case you have an ugly baby.”

“Except we don’t need it,” James insisted, nestling Solomon next to Shara. He said a silent prayer, once again thanking God for all His blessings. His life had changed so much. He had a wife. And a son. And a huge dog who slobbered enough to fill a small lake.

And he wouldn’t have it any other way.
