Matt leaned closer and she held her breath, waiting for him to take her, to take all control. This was a man who was used to being in charge. He would unyieldingly claim her, make her beg for release. She’d seen how he always acted around other women—so smug and arrogant, like he knew the effect he had on the opposite sex. So she was surprised when he leaned forward and gently kissed her. His lips were pressed softly against her center—against the very heart of her. She gasped at the tenderness of the moment and then moaned when after two soft kisses he finally gave a gentle caress of his tongue.

This was Matt? The big, tough, macho guy who’d never even liked her before? It almost felt like he was surrendering to her—not the other way around. Matt was cherishing her.

He teased her softly with his tongue, taking his time delving through her folds and gently caressing her clit as he built her up. She arched her hips up to meet him, desperate for more contact. He slipped two large hands beneath her bottom, holding her closer to him as he devoured her. She couldn’t move away as Matt pleasured her and helplessly whimpered and moaned as he gave her exactly what she needed. He flicked his tongue lightly over her sensitive bundle of nerves, teasing her, and then finally sucked her clit into his mouth, using his lips and teeth to drive her wild. She gasped as pleasure began to surge through her entire body, sending her higher and higher. As his tongue caressed her again, she screamed out Matt’s name, lost to everything but him.

  ***

Matt pleasured her eagerly with his tongue, enjoying the succulent taste of Becky’s arousal as she came apart. He lapped at her sweet juices, taking everything she offered him, determined to wring every last ounce of pleasure from her body. She’d come apart so quickly that he was determined to bring her to orgasm again, as soon as possible. With all the ways he wanted to take her, have her, and taste her, he could spend the entire night prowling over her body, listening to her cries as she climaxed again and again.

As she shuddered on the bed, he bent to untie the dress she had on. It was wrapped around all of her glorious curves, and he felt like he was unwrapping a present intended only for him. She wore a black lacy bra beneath the silky green dress, and he tugged the cups of it down, kissing her full breasts and teasing her rosy nipples with his tongue. He sucked one bud into his mouth, pulling it taught. It peaked beneath his touch, and he grew even harder at Becky’s obvious excitement. “You’re so beautiful,” he said as she watched him from beneath hooded eyes.

He stood and removed his clothing, sheathing himself with condom. Becky took off her bra, baring herself completely to him, and he bit out a curse. He tugged Becky to the edge of the bed and pulled her legs over his shoulders, opening her wider to him. She gasped at the provocative position, and he slowly eased himself inside her tight, wet heat. His thick arousal filled her, stretching her velvety walls, and he thrust into her slowly, stroking her deep inside with his throbbing erection as her pussy clamped down on him.

“Say you’re mine,” Matt commanded, thrusting into her as she moaned with pleasure.

“I’m yours, only yours,” she sobbed, gasping as he felt her walls tighten even more.

“I take care of what’s mine,” Matt promised. He reached down and rubbed her clit with his thumb, sending her spiraling higher and higher. “I can feel you tightening around me,” he said, voice rough as gravel. “Come for me, Becky.”

He pulled out and thrust in slowly, filling her again inch by inch as her inner walls clamped down around him. He circled her swollen clit faster and faster until she was falling, screaming out his name as her orgasm slammed into her. She gasped and bucked up off the bed, helpless to his pounding into her over and over again. His balls tightened and he exploded as well, releasing himself deep inside Becky, her name on his lips.

  Chapter 12

Becky woke the next morning with a gasp, trapped beneath a muscular arm wrapped tightly around her waist. She struggled against its weight, panicked, until Matt shifted beside her. “It’s okay, you’re safe,” he said softly. The sound of his voice soothed her, and as memories of last night flooded through her mind, she relaxed into his muscular embrace.

“Sorry. I just forgot where I was. I haven’t slept that well in ages.”

“Mmmm, me either,” he said huskily, pulling her closer. She felt his arousal pushing up against her bare bottom, and she suddenly became aware of how very naked she was lying in Matt’s bed, in his arms. A blush spread over her as she remembered the many ways he’d pleasured her last night, the many times she’d cried out his name. And she couldn’t even quickly dress and leave, putting their one night together behind her, since he’d been the one driving. God, what would her sister think that she’d never come home? What would Jade think that she’d simply vanished from the party?

Matt kissed her bare shoulder, and thoughts of her sister and friend quickly drifted from her mind. He pushed her hair aside and kissed the tender spot beneath her ear, working his way down her neck with tender nips and kisses as his large hand found her breast, kneading and caressing it.

“Did I tell you how beautiful you are?” he asked, voice deep. He pinched her nipple between his forefinger and thumb, pulling it taught. “I could spend all day making love to you.”

  “Matt,” she protested.

He grabbed a condom from his nightstand and quickly sheathed himself, rolling her onto her back. “Yeah baby?” he asked, ducking his head down to kiss her breasts as his erection brushed against her leg. He lightly flicked his tongue over one nipple and she gasped, arching up into him. His fingers traced through her folds, and he rubbed some of her arousal over her clit, sending heat coursing through her. Her entire body felt like it was melting into his expert touch, and she whimpered as he sped up his caress. “I’ll never be able to get enough of you,” he said, lining himself up with her center and then quickly thrusting inside as she gasped.

He grabbed her wrists in one hand, pinning them above her head, as he ground into her over and over again, the base of his penis rubbing against her swollen clit. “Oh, God, Matt,” she moaned, the exquisite ache of pleasure almost too much to bear. He held her down as he thrust into her, faster and faster, and the feeling of his large body over hers, completely commanding her, somehow aroused her even more. She was helpless to the onslaught of pleasure that coursed through her with each stroke of his thick arousal. He filled her completely, and her climax came in waves, each one more intense than the last, until she screamed, her orgasm slamming into her. Matt stiffened and came as well, releasing her hands and collapsing on the bed, pulling her into his arms.

“When do you have to go back?” he asked when they’d both finally began breathing normally again. He gently brushed her hair back from her face as she gazed into his dark eyes.

  “To my sister’s?”

  “No, to California.”

“Oh, my flight’s not for a few weeks. I’m here for my entire winter break. Why?”

Matt gazed down at her with a softness she’d never seen before in his eyes. “Because I want to keep seeing you.”

  “What?” Becky asked in surprise.

“I know we live on opposite coasts right now, but you’re almost done with school. And hell, I’m from California. I can certainly come out to visit you.”

“But Matt, we can’t. I thought this was just a one-night sort of thing,” she said, panic rising within her. Even though being with Matt had been more incredible than she could have ever imagined, she couldn’t risk getting in a relationship and having her heart broken all over again. It had been tough enough moving on after Brody. Opening herself up at all to Matt had been a huge step, and giving herself to him for one night alone was all she could manage right now.

Matt stiffened beside her. “What are you talking about? You thought I’d take you home and fuck you and never want to see you again?”

She gasped and pulled away from him, surprised at his harsh words and tone. Holding the sheet to cover herself, she sat up and glared at him.
He eyed the fabric she clutched to her chest. “No need to cover yourself up, gorgeous. I’ve kissed and tasted every square inch of you in case you’ve forgotten. Or should I make you moan my name a few more times so you remember?”

“Matt, that’s enough,” Becky said, flushing. “I thought we agreed to see each other last night. Yes, things got out of hand and we slept together, but that doesn’t mean we have to start dating.”

“The hell it doesn’t—we’re perfect for each other. You’re just too damn scared to see it.”

“I have to go,” Becky said, rising from the bed and hastily grabbing the clothing she’d left strewn across the floor. She carried her things into the bathroom, closing the door behind her and quickly pulling on her bra and dress. She had no idea where her panties had disappeared off to, but she wasn’t going to stick around and find out. When she walked back out, Matt was dressed in jeans and a tee shirt, her panties dangling from his muscular hand.

“Want me to put these on you, sweetheart?” he asked, stalking across the room toward her.

“No,” she said, snatching them from him and stuffing them into her purse.

“You sure liked it when I stripped them off of you last night. When I tasted you. Or have you forgotten already?” he asked, ducking down to meet her gaze.

“Don’t be a jerk, Matt. Even if last night was incredible, it doesn’t mean we should do it all over again every weekend.”

“Fine, I’ll drive you home,” he growled, grabbing his keys from the dresser.

“Don’t bother,” Becky snapped, turning to leave. “I’ll call Melissa for a ride.”

“Becky,” he ground out. “Don’t be ridiculous.”

“Thanks for ruining a perfectly good night,” she said, tears welling in her eyes. “Now that I see what a jerk you are around women you’ve slept with, you can sure as hell bet it’ll never happen again.”

Matt looked shocked and started to apologize, but Becky spun around and waved him off, hurrying toward the door. She’d call Melissa or Jade to come get her, but there was no way she was spending another minute with that insufferable man.

  Chapter 13

Matt watched in disbelief as Becky bolted out the front door. He wasn’t sure if he should chase after Becky and beg her to stay or let her cool down. He’d lost his shit a few moments ago, taunting her with reminders of all the ways he’d enjoyed her body last night. But it was more than a quick fuck to him—didn’t she get that? “Damn it!” he shouted, punching the back of his sofa. The soft cushions that met his fist were not nearly satisfying enough, and he longed to be at the gym pounding the hell out of a boxing bag. Had Becky even wanted to be with him? Maybe she’d been imagining she was with Brody or some other man.

But no, he couldn’t have dreamed up the way she’d cried out his name over and over, clung to him as he made love to her, or gazed helplessly into his eyes. She was falling, too. He knew it. He knew her. She was just scared to be feeling something for a change. Hell if he wasn’t, too. He’d been numb for the past year with grief and loss, and now for the first time he’d felt calm because of her. He hadn’t even been with a woman for over a year, but had he told Becky that? Hell no. She probably thought he went out every weekend to find a new woman to take home.

Matt was starting to regret all those times he’d bolted from the room when she’d been dating Brody. Apparently she didn’t know him at all, thinking he’d have her in his bed for one night and be done with her. Maybe he’d fooled around a bit in his younger days, but those were long behind him now. And he would never do that to her. Could she really not realize that?

His cell phone rang from where he’d left it on the dresser, and he stalked back into his bedroom, surprised to see Jason’s name on his caller ID.

“Jason, is everything okay?” Maybe something had happened on base and he needed to report in. He couldn’t imagine many reasons why Jason would be calling him this early on a Sunday morning.

“You tell me. Is Becky with you?”

“Becky? No, uh, she just left,” Matt said, feeling guilty for telling Jason that Becky had spent the night. If Becky wanted to share that information with anyone that was her choice, but Matt sure wasn’t one to kiss and tell. He didn’t really have many options under the circumstances now though, did he? Becky was already mad as hell, and if her friends or sister were looking for her, he’d have even more pissed off women on his hands if he lied about it. “Is there a problem?”

Matt heard Jason talking to someone in the background. “Amy got a call from Becky’s sister this morning. From Melissa. I guess she was worried when Becky never came home last night. Not that it’s any of my business what you do, but Amy and Melissa were concerned enough that I said I’d call you.”

“Yeah, she just left here. She didn’t have a car though. I’ll go outside and see if she’s still around. I thought Melissa was picking her up.”

“No, she never heard from her,” Jason said, sounding concerned.

“She’s probably out front,” Matt said with a sigh. “She was, uh, pretty pissed off at me. I’ll go check on her and call you back.”

“Give me your address; we’ll come pick her up.”

“No, I’ll drive her home. I’m sure she can handle a few more minutes with me.”

“All right, I’ll let Amy know. Talk to you later.”

  “Bye.”

Matt grabbed his wallet and keys, heading for the front door. Hell if this morning was turning out a lot differently than he’d imagined when he woke up with Becky tucked safely in his arms. Maybe he could calm her down on the way home, explain. If she knew that he truly cared about her, she couldn’t stay mad, could she? He sighed as he jogged out to the parking lot. Even if she would forgive him for this morning, he’d still have to somehow convince her to take that leap of faith with him.

  Chapter 14

Becky thanked the cab driver, handing him a wad of cash as they pulled up to Melissa’s house. Melissa’s car was gone, and Becky wondered where she’d be so early on a Saturday morning. No bother, she’d leave her a quick note and grab her things. Thankfully most of her belongings were still in her suitcase, so packing wouldn’t take long. She’d just stuff in the dirty clothes that were currently piled on the floor, grab her toiletries from the bathroom, and be off. It turned out a week at home was about all she could handle. She’d booked a flight back to California on the cab ride over and had just enough time to drive to the airport, drop of her rental car, and catch her afternoon flight.

Her parents would be upset that she’d left without saying goodbye, but there was no way Becky could stay here a second longer after the way things had ended with Matt this morning. What had she been thinking getting involved with him? Sure the man was hotter than sin, but he’d acted like a total jackass, throwing everything back in her face when she’d decided to leave. She hadn’t so much as kissed a guy in over a year, much less spent the night in his bed. The only man she’d ever been with had been Brody. Although their sex life had been plenty satisfying, it barely even compared to the off-the-charts chemistry she had with Matt. She’d let her guard down and let him in, given herself over to him, and what had he done? Nothing but taunt her and throw their night together back in her face.

And seriously, how ironic was it that Matt was the one that wanted them to keep seeing each other? Wasn’t he the king of one-night-stands? She’d taken a chance with him for one night, but that didn’t mean she could give him her heart. Not when it had been battered beyond all repair a year ago. Hot tears streamed down her face as she stuffed the last of her things into her suitcase and heaved it off the bed. She jotted a quick note to Melissa, leaving it on the kitchen table, and was dismayed to see her tear stains blurring some of the words. Wiping her eyes, she turned to go. This wasn’t how she wanted to leave things at home, but it was probably for the best that she went back to California. After putting her suitcase in the trunk, she slammed it shut, driving out of Melissa’s neighborhood and win
ding her way through town. Before long she was heading north on Interstate 95. Melissa would probably be home soon and be furious, but for now Becky needed to just put all of this behind her and get back to her real life.

  ***

The plane touched down in California six hours later after a smooth ride. Sunshine beamed in through the windows as they taxied down the runway, and Becky sighed in relief. Despite having grown up in Virginia, it was California that now felt like home. Although she’d once imagined leaving here, the memories of Brody too strong, she wasn’t sure now what she wanted to do. Hurt and anger could follow her anywhere. If she found a job at the university after she graduated, she would probably stay, she realized. Her life was here now, and whether or not Brody or Matt or anyone else was in it, didn’t matter. She had to follow her own dreams.

She turned her phone back on as she waited at the baggage claim and wasn’t surprised to see a slew of text messages and voicemails. She had about ten texts from Melissa, from both when she was out looking for her and from when she’d returned home to find Becky’s note. They’d gone from worried to downright furious, and Becky sighed. Melissa certainly had the famed redheaded temper, but Becky knew she’d probably calmed down by now. She sent her a quick text letting her know that she’d landed and saying she’d call later. Jade had texted to ask where she and Matt had disappeared to last night but didn’t seem worried. Her mother had left a worried voicemail asking her to call. She’d expected to have a message from Matt and found herself oddly disappointed that he hadn’t called or texted her. If he was so damn concerned about her, he had a funny way of showing it. He’d let her walk right out his front door and hadn’t tried once to contact her since then. Not that he could’ve changed her mind, but it was the principle of it. For someone who claimed that he wanted to be with her, he had a damn funny way of showing it.
