I'd never been in love with an idea, an image, an expectation of who he was meant to be…I was in love with the man he was and what he was becoming and I was fucking fine with that.

A few days after the spectacle that was Mick's declaration of love at Galaxy records, I was curled up in his arms, totally starkers in bed. We'd never actually slept together in all that sneaking around. We'd never woken up in each other’s arms and if I was going to be one hundred percent transparent about it…morning sex was the best fucking way to start the day.

A shrill ringing brought me out of sleep and my eyes cracked open. It was light outside, the clock reading eight am in its bright red glow. Mick groaned beside me, his grip tightening on my waist as I reached for my phone.

I didn't recognize the number, but I picked up the call anyway. "Sasha Montgomery."

"Sasha? This is Grant Waters. I hope I haven't caught you too early."

Shit. All of a sudden, I lost the ability to speak. What if this was it?

  "Hello? Sasha, are you there?"

My heart started to thump in my chest and I broke out in a cold sweat. "Hello? Yes, I'm here."

"Hey, so...do you want a job managing Affliction?"

Dreams came with nightmares, but nobody ever told me that they made them worthwhile.

I'd dreamed of falling in love all my life. The kind of love that made your fingertips tingle. The kind of love that consumed an entire world. That idea of romance never took into account the struggle to get to the finish line…or that there was actually no finish line. You never fell in love with someone and then wrote 'the end' on it, right? You fell in love, then you lived your life together every day after that. There was no end, or at least, I hoped there wasn't.

Quietly loving someone from the sidelines wasn't the dream I thought I'd have in my reality. It wasn't my idea of true love, not by a long shot. The pain made it real and my mistake that night at the label party snowballed it into a living nightmare. To my complete shock, Mick was waiting for me at the bottom of the hill, ready to catch me in his arms.

It wasn't just my story of unrequited love…it was his as well. His fears, his demons and all the things that made him who he was. I could love him all I wanted, but if Mick didn't face his fears then this story wouldn't have ended up where it did. With us. In fucking love. Who'd have thought it?

After three and a half years of unbearable torture, Mick had finally seen me and now that I was on permanently as Affliction's manager? The world was our fucking oyster… Sunshine and fucking rainbows.

And you better stay out of our way.
