Unavoidable

“What are you looking for?” Colton asked.
“How is it possible that I have no flashlight? All these doggone pockets and I didn’t even think about bringing one.”
“You don’t need one. I don’t think anyone would have been able to survive this shit. Let’s move the bike around the pit and use its light to look for him.” As we go around, we notice on the opposite side, there is a large, dark lump. We get closer and identify the lump as Jesse’s body. His head is severed almost completely from his neck, unnaturally bobbing in the water. There is a big chunk of it missing, He was ugly in life, but he makes for an even uglier corpse.
Colton is the first one of us to react. “Let’s get out of here before the police come. Take me to my truck?”
We reach his truck and I drive my bike alongside his truck glancing at each other from time to time, silently reassuring each other that everything will be okay. As we reach the access road on top of the hill, we see Ciara, who is steadily picking up shell casings. She looks at us and shakes her head.
“Stop with the gooey eyes and help me get all this shit in the truck. I guess we overestimated because we didn’t get to use half of the stuff we brought with us.”
“Better be safe than sorry.” I tell her. Then I look to see the crazy scene down below. No one is moving. Maybe they have bled to death. “Let’s go home.” I’m starving and I need a shower. “Meet you at our place.” I am taking a night ride. “Meaning I am getting ready to haul ass and you can’t keep up.” I say out loud, winking at Colton, then I take off.
Going down the hill towards the city, I could not help myself. I had to spread my arms out, extending them like wings, allowing the wind to wipe away my fears. I left Jesse and my past inside the gates of that quarry. Feeling the cool night wind on my face, I imagined myself soaring like an eagle, lifting up to a new beginning. My friends will not be harmed or threatened by my enemy. I was finally able to love and live my life without looking over my shoulder. Most importantly, I was finally free.
Colton
We walk in the apartment after stopping by the storage unit to make a deposit. I hope I never have to make a withdrawal again. I open the fridge to get a beer. Ciara excuses herself and I hear the shower running.
I turn on the news and sit in the living room to wait for Brianna. She comes in about fifteen minutes later.
“Anything interesting?”
“Nope. We need to keep looking for the next couple of days, though.”
“Agreed.” She walks in the kitchen and comes back with a freshly opened can of Coke and a Snickers bar and sits on my lap.
“Where did you go?”
“I just rode around for a while then stopped at my star gazing spot to see if I could relax a little. Wanna bite?” She takes a chunk of the candy bar with her mouth holding one chunk with her lips and the other is offered to me from her hand. I smile and take it from her lips.
“Were you able to relax some?” I ask her.
“Nope. Not yet. I think I need to find a way to burn all this adrenaline coursing through my body.”
“You also need to figure out a way to burn all that sugar or very soon you will have trouble getting into that catsuit.” I smile because she knows I am only teasing. I would love and worship her body regardless of her shape or size.
“Hey!!! Not fair! Don’t be ‘that guy.’”
“How about we go to the bedroom and I’ll help you take off this catsuit and treat your wound.”
“Oh, yes! I forgot. I need to clean it. I can’t believe the idiot tried to shoot me.”
I look at her laughing, “What do you mean ‘tried’? The dude shot you!” I get her to stand up and then I get up and grab her by the hand, pulling her to the bedroom, where I will be able to have my way with her.
“Scratches do not count. He missed!”
“He didn’t miss and you have the mark to prove it.” She pouts, and just when she was getting ready to bicker back, she notices the gift bag on the floor of her bedroom and bends over to pick it up.
“Aww, you brought me a make out present!?”
“Brianna, I am sure it’s supposed to be a making-up present, because I was such a douche to you yesterday.”
“Yeah, but when you give your girlfriend a make-up present, isn’t it because you want to end up making out?”
She got me. I decide to lean against the wall and watch her reaction.
“Oh emm gee! This is so cute I can hardly stand it!” She takes out the travel mug, looks at it and sets it on the dresser. Then she takes out the pocket knife, opens it and closes it a few times. When she looks up at me she is smiling, then she taps her nose with the tip of her new knife and all of the sudden she squints her eyes, her nose wrinkles and she is coming at me with the fucking knife!
I hear a ‘whoomp’ sound and I feel her entire body on me and her hand between my legs. I open my eyes and ease her away from me softly and slowly only using my index fingers. I am afraid of what I am going to see.
Once there are a few inches between our bodies, I take a chance and look down. Right there, between my spread legs, I see the pink camo handle of the knife I had just gifted her with the hopes of a make-up/make out session. She sunk that knife into the wall right below my nuts. When I look at her to try to figure out what is going on, I feel her hand rubbing my cock, and I’ll be damned, even though inside my head I’m screaming like a little girl, she has managed to awaken the Beast. Slowly, I look into her eyes and they are filled with lust and love. She leans forward towards me so that we are cheek to cheek, I can feel her breath next to my ear. I can smell her salty skin and her coconut scented hair. I close my eyes and take it all in. She licks me from the base of my neck, all the way around the edge of my earlobe. Her tongue continues to trace my jawline and then moves to my lips. With that simple act, everything that just happened is forgotten and I am ready to move into other things, but Brianna pushes me back into the wall.
“Colton?”
“Hmmm?”
“If you leave me again for no good reason, I will not miss on purpose. You will be sporting pierced nuts for sure. Are we clear?”
“You got my attention, Brianna, and it seems there is another part of me that is standing at attention, waiting for your love and affection.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes.” I grab the zipper of her cat suit and pull it all the way down. I stop for a second to admire the view.
“White lace. I approve.” We work together to remove the tight clothing covering her. I carry her to the bed and gently lay her down, covering her body with my own. We lace the fingers on one of our joined hands, and with my other free hand, I hold her close to me, cupping her jaw and she pulls gently on my hair.
“Brianna, I am getting ready to prove to you that my love will always and forever be more than enough. You’ve had me since day one. We are made for each other. You are my proof that love is real and that it exists. I am a man who did not know what he wanted in a partner until I met you. You are what I want. You are what I need. I need your strength to carry me through the day. I need your beauty to remind me how glorious life can be. I need you to love me unconditionally, because I have never loved anyone with all that I am and all that I have. Your love teaches me that there is hope and happiness. I don’t have to be empty inside ever again because I have you to fill me. You are the ever growing stream that replenishes me daily. You are all that I will ever want. Our being together forever is unavoidable.”
She looks at me with happy tears leaking from her eyes.
“Show me, Colton.”
And I do.
Epilogue
Brianna
Three days.
Three days for us to finally hear an update being reported on the news.
It was thought to be a drug deal gone wrong. It helped a lot that Jesse had a bunch of cocaine and other drug paraphernalia hidden inside his truck. It also helped that all the casualties were armed and had a lengthy record w
ith various police and federal agencies.
They played Jesse’s story as a mobster and tried to get interviews with anyone they could find who had a prior encounter with the Trevino family.
For us it was over. My past had been avenged at last.
“This calls for a celebration! Ciara, please text everyone to come to our place, bring tons of booze and I’m going to order pizza!”
Ciara nods and walks away to get her phone, I look at Colton and smile.
“It looks like you are happy.” I rub my nose to his imitating an Eskimo kiss.
“I have a reason to be.”
“Yeah? What is that?”
“Well, now that you no longer require so much training at the gym, we can start preparing for the bedroomlympics.”
“Bedroomlympics? What does that entail?” He gives me a serious look, his eyes gleaming with mischievousness, and clears his throat.
“It’s the measure of all things sex related. Like ‘How long does the strongest orgasm last?’ ‘How far can she spread her legs?’ We can measure how flexible we really are, and of course, it will take numerous attempts to get it right. Accuracy is a must.” He smiles and winks at me.
“I think I like this idea. Yeah… I approve. Let’s get started right after I order the pizza. That will give us at least thirty minutes for the first session.”
“Baby, thirty minutes don’t count. That’s just a quickie. But I’m not picky, a real man takes whatever he can get as long as you promise a real session after this impromptu party.”
“I love dealing with a real man!” I throw myself at him and when he gets up from the couch, I wrap my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck. He carries me to the bedroom to practice, leaving all thoughts of pizza and celebration forgotten for now. After all, practice does make perfect.

Thanks for treating my kids like they were your own.
I also have to thank some very important Indie Authors who have inspired me along the way:
Abbi Glines – Your stories and characters inspire me in a way that others don’t. I simply identify with them and feel like they are my friends. They are likable, they make me laugh, and sometimes I have cried for them, too. Your work moved me to create characters that touched people the same way yours did for me. I want to help others forget about their real world for a few hours at a time. Thank you for being kind, funny and sweet. Meeting you in person was a dream come true. You have a fan for life.
Michelle Pace – Thank you for agreeing to be my mentor on all things “Indie” and for always sharing your honest opinion. Good bad or indifferent, I would not want it any other way. I love your wit and sarcasm. I admire your work and the different facets you show - sometimes the result is steamy, other times it’s poetic, but regardless of which way you go, it is always a great book.
Kathryn Perez – I admire your strength and conviction. I admire that you will not let the bad guys back out. Your work has been different from the norm, but it is teaching others about things that are happening in our society. It is raising awareness and this is important in my eyes. Thank you for taking a stand. I am honored to be one of your “snowflakes.”
About the Author
Yara Greathouse spends her days working for a living in the travel industry and volunteers for the community with Meals on Wheels. At night, she locks her office doors and begs not to be interrupted unless there is a fire in the house, blood is being spilled or a tornado is coming by. Sometimes it works, but she has found that acting as a Tasmanian devil is the most effective way to stop any and all interruptions while she is writing.
She loves writing, reading and cooking – not necessarily in that order because, as you may know, it will always depend on what kind of mood she is in. She seems to always get caught up in some comedic situation that causes her friends to laugh with her, and now they recognize that if something is going to happen to anyone, it will happen to her.
Her favorite sport is people watching and eavesdropping on ongoing conversations anywhere and everywhere. According to her, this helps with character development. She also enjoys taking pictures of questionable strangers without their knowledge and of weird things she comes across.
Join her in her journey of creating great characters and great stories that will make you laugh and will also touch your heart.
