"And admitted you loved a murderer?"

"Admitted that one can't stop loving—no matter what the other person has done." She touched the flecks of grey hair that marked his temples. "I'll spend the rest of my life trying to make you believe I'll never doubt you again."

"I already believe it," he said against her mouth.

Their kiss was tender, but as it lengthened the tenderness was replaced by a fiercer pressure. Phillip's need was evident by the trembling of his body, by the innocent murmurs he made as his hands roamed over her, as if only by feeling her could he make himself realise they were together.

"Marry me soon," he begged. "I want you so much."

"As soon as Dr. Rogers comes back," she promised. She pushed him away quickly at a sharp knock on the door.

Molly opened it and said, "Sorry to disturb you, doctor, but there's a man outside who thinks he has measles."

"I'll see him in a moment."

Molly withdrew and Lesley flung Phillip an apologetic glance. "I'm sorry, darling. I'll be as quick as I can."

"That's what comes of being in love with a doctor!" He kissed the tip of her nose. "I'll wait outside."

"I have this coming weekend off," she said. "No one can disturb me then."

"I'll disturb you!" His eyes glittered. "It won't be like our weekend in Zurich. You know what I mean, don't you?"

"No." Her own eyes deliberately widened. "You'll have from -Friday night till Monday morning to show me.

"And for the rest of our lives after that," he said gruffly, then opened the door. "Take your time with your patient, darling. I'll always be waiting."
