Out for Revenge
Page 15
“How did you meet Uncle Jack, Carrie?” I smiled at Abigail’s question.
“I met him, a long time ago, I used to hang around with your Uncle Tom, and he had a strop and stopped being my proper friend after years of being friends. So he when he left me in the house you’re living in now, all on my own, Jack well he came home, and Jack took me home, and asked me to be his girlfriend, and I said yes.”
“Well, you took your time in getting married then, what took you so long and why now?”
“We had lots of things to do and experience before we settled down, and now Abigail, that times right, now that were dead old and past it.”
“You’re not old, but Uncle Jack is, he is dead old, have you seen his grey hair?”
“I have, and I’ll let you into a secret, mines dyed blond to hide my grey hair, and I think he looks kind of sexy!” She pulled her face and walked away laughing.
“Well, you got the seal of approval from Abby; she doesn’t normally like the girls and women, who he brings to see us.” Oh, I knew he lied; nobody is that good without practice. I laughed and went into the garden, to enjoy what was left of the summer evening.
“What are you doing out here on your own Carrie?”
“I had a chat to Abby, nice girl, rather forward for a fifteen year old, reminds me of someone I once knew.”
“That’s nice, but why the face?” He had a knack of knowing when I was angry or pissed off.
“Jenny, bless her said, I got the Abby seal of approval, which was more than the other women and girls got.”
“You, didn’t think I didn’t see other people in the time we were apart did you? I did, just didn’t have sex with them, is that why you’re pissed you thought I was lying to you, well I wasn’t, I don’t lie. I have only ever been in that place with you, as you well remember Carrie, I was the one with the restraint, not you, and we did other things, yes the other things I have done, but not the most important thing, that was only ever yours.”
“I’m very glad to hear it stud; do you fancy going somewhere for a few days when we say goodbye to this lot?”
“Yes, where do you fancy? Am I going to see the hotel in Blackpool?” I laughed.
“Have you got your passport?” He nodded.
“Why, what have you got planned? Share it, Carrie Constance Wright.”
“No, it’s my surprise now, just pack a bag and shut up the rest is my surprise!” I made a few phone calls, and went to talk to Cousin Linda and asked her advice, that given and damn good it was too. We said goodbye to our guests, as the door shut I sighed.
“Right, bags in the car we have a plane to catch.”
“Will I like the surprise? I don’t do well with most surprises, I like to plan, and I’m not a spare of the moment type of guy!”
“Shut up, you will like this I promise. Fancy joining the mile high club?”
“Err, hell yes, as long as it’s with you I’m up to joining any club you want Carrie.” We headed for the airport at Plymouth, were the private jet was waiting to take us to destinations unknown. Our car dropped us and we went through the passport rigmarole and on to the jet, my first time in a private jet, and wow, what a jet! We were seated and talked through safety and took off; the flight attendant asked did we want the champagne now or later?
“Leave it here, please we will take it to the cabin, and do whatever you need to your services as such won’t be needed thank you, we have to catch up on sleep, until we land, thank you!” Jack was silent, as I took him to the cabin; it was as sumptuous as the main cabin, the bed soft and inviting.
“Jack join me for the first of many I hope mile high adventures?” He didn’t need asking twice. We made love all night long and as he held me tightly, afterwards he kissed my head and sighed.
“You make me feel like a teenager again, happy and care free, are you happy?”
“Definitely, happy and I love you, I know it’s a bit rushed and crazy, but yes happy and were I think we need to be, as to being a teenager, a certain teenager asked what had taken us so long, and it got me thinking, we have waited long enough, will you marry me please Jack Andrew Thompson?”
“Hell, yes Carrie Constance Wright, in a heartbeat!”
“How about tomorrow, err today in a drive through wedding chapel? I want to do it now and this is the quickest way we can?”
“We haven’t got the clothes; we need the rings, the paperwork?” I laughed, was he finding a way out?
“The clothes are, or will be waiting in the hotel room, the rings we can get from the hotel jewellers, Mr Graff does, and I do believe they are some nice pieces. The paperwork, we do at city hall, Linda says that will take longer than the wedding, and she says sometimes longer than the marriage lasts. So, do you want to marry me stud?” He pulled me onto the bed.
“Fancy one last time as young, free and single then?” Of course I did.
We arrived at Mc Claran Airport, to be greeted by the Wynn courtesy limo, we headed to the hotel, changed into the clothes, bought our rings, did the paperwork at city hall, and we got ourselves married, quick simple and painless, I was now Mrs Jack Thompson, and happy. As we rode back to the hotel in the hire car, Jack had the biggest smile on his face
“Well, Mrs Thompson, what do you want to do first? Food and the consummation of the sacred marriage wows we took before Elvis and Pricilla, baby hoo-ha. I think we may have waited a long time for our first legal bunk up!”
“Oh, you smooth talking doctor you, forget the food we can have room service after, I need some loving, a hunk a hunk a loving hoo-ha!” Fits of laughter, as we headed for our room, I was carried all the way up and through the doorway. Happy? Hell yes, happy and finally I think, getting the ever after I had always dreamed of.
After our three-day honeymoon, were we didn’t venture out of the room once, we flew home, happy and ready to face the next problems, were to live, what to do about the twins and me becoming a wife, when the new husband was going to Africa for a whole month? Told I wouldn’t like it and couldn’t go with him, I had checked and I didn’t fancy doing the rough living thing he would be doing, not that I could, because I had the hotel empire to sort.
How, I wish I had chosen to take things easy and just relax with my millions. As the rest of them seemed to do, after all one had said to me when I went for a meeting with their financial advisors, why do I want more than I had? I couldn’t answer other than I liked being busy and restoring old hotels was a hobby, and one that actually was making me money, or would do. The two-hour plus, journey was a killer, and something I, we had not planned out too well, but we made it work for the two weeks, then when he got back, he was transferring to Plymouth Derriford hospital, a lot less trek.
I had sent the musical box along with some of their things; they had left behind at our home, when they left. I hadn’t heard, from them, but I knew they had got the gifts they had both signed for them, I just had to wait, I had enclosed a from the heart note and asked they get in contact, I wasn’t going to push them, the door was there for them to walk through, it would always be open.
I busied myself in the month Jack was away. The Bournemouth hotels, they needed less work than the others did, they were the first to open, I walked around them, and they were perfect. Thank god the developer had gone bust doing them up, all the grunt work had been done, and I got to do the exciting part, I put them together again, the first floor plan for the start of my empire.
With all the travelling to and from the hotels, the trips round the country, having to see to the different trade’s people, all the different merchandisers, and furniture suppliers. It was a hectic month. I was, actually feeling run down and tired and missing my husband a lot, no matter how many times you Skype, text or call it’s not the same. Oh I was damn grumpy and losing the plot.
I went for dinner with Linda; having persuaded her to stay here, and put together the entertainment packages for the bigger of the hotels. She missed me and my mouth so much she agreed to stay, Aun
ty Lou was ecstatic, she lived in the hotel with us, though she would move up to the Blackpool hotel with Aunty and Uncle to live there, in their home I got them there.
“What’s up with you, you’re more grumpy than usual, and that takes some doing, missing Doctor Studily Mac Do-little?”
“I am as a matter of fact; a month is a bloody long time when we have only been married for less than half of that. I found out today he has to do another two months at bloody Birmingham until their new Paediatrician, can fill the void. So, yes pissed off about that and bloody tired. I have a gazillion million, and I’m so controlling. I had a row today with a supplier about two shades of bloody green sheets, sheets I was arguing the toss over sheets, god help me, I’m a lunatic and a damn tired one, sickie rundown one. I need a holiday.” She laughed and then made a joke about not being pregnant. I laughed.
“I went through the early change, a few years back not had a period in like forever, and thank god that’s not a possibility.” She grinned.
“And the doctor diagnosed early menopause, and not just stress?”
“I never went to the doctors I just bloody presumed, oh shit, I can’t be I’m too old, shut up bitch, don’t wish that on me too.” She wasn’t laughing, and now neither was I. We paid for the meal and headed to Asda, for a test kit, I paid and dashed into their loo’s I peed and did the hour long wait, well it seemed like an hour-long wait.
I opened the door and Linda rushed in, two blue lines. Shit, I was pregnant, old, and pregnant, shit; most people with twenty-four year old children were becoming grandparents, not bloody parents again.
“Congratulations? Carrie you’re going to be a Mum again, Jack will be thrilled at being a Dad, and you’re giving him a family, the family you both wanted.”
“Linda, what if it’s not Jack’s what if its Tom’s we never took precautions either, and I slept with both of them, both of them, in the space of days. Whore that I am, now I don’t know if I’m having my dead ex’s baby or Jack’s much yearned for child, what am I going to do?” She led me to the car, as I put the stick in the box and shoved it in my bag.
“I suppose you couldn’t just lie to Jack?”
“Never in a million years will I ever lie to him, not to him, ever, I will have to tell him and see where it takes us, he is either a Dad or an Uncle, shit I fucked up.”
“When is he back? I can come to the airport and meet him with you?” I shook my head.
“No, this I have to do myself, and he’s back in three days. I will tell him, and well expect the worse, he will be angry and ask for a divorce, fun whilst it lasted two weeks and heading down the divorce route again. I am going up to London for a few days I have to see my solicitor, and try to see the twins, I need to put things right with them.” She gave me a hug. I had a crappy night’s sleep; in fact, I didn’t have any sleep.
CHAPTER 16
I booked into my favourite, hotel had my meeting to discuss the new will, and I left there with more answers needed, though Jack got the money there were legacy’s for any children I had, Uncle and Aunty and Linda were also seen to, but for now I had more worrying problems than who gets the money when I die. I had a child in production, one whom I hadn’t a clue who was its father.
I went to see Catherine, and as usual, she was calm and collected, and did something to calm my nerves, we had a scan, I was a little nervous and as it was so early on, I had to have a more intimate scan done a probe.
“Are you ready, Carrie?” I nodded; as she did the scanning and looking I screwed, my eyes shut and held my breath.
“I can’t see a foetus, but the sac is clearly visible, congratulations you about five weeks pregnant no more than that as there’s no little bean, does that help you?” I had been married six weeks and slept with them seven weeks ago, I did the math and cried; it was Jacks baby.
“Very thank you I was stupid seven weeks ago, so the baby has to have been conceived later than that?”
“At six weeks we see a tiny bean sized being here; and as you clearly have the sac, and your levels are fine, you’re pregnant, and approximately five weeks, no more, and possibly a week less. However, you are having a baby, due in April. Look, stop worrying and relax, be happy and take it easy, delegate get more, get managers in.” I drove away happy and in a good mood, a good mood, the only thing to sour it would be if the children didn’t want to see me.
I drove to their grandparent’s mansion. It was for sale. I phoned the real estate agent, who informed me it was in foreclosure. Messy business mortgage to the hilt and the bank were repossessing it along with the other hotels and such in the next few days. I rung around rang the board members, I knew hated Dylan, phoned the receivers, dealing with it all. I at the end of the day had a battle plan, and I was going to war, with Dylan, at last. One I would have to win.
I drove to the head office and asked to speak to Dylan, I was asked my name and told them I wanted discuss buying the hotel chain from them. I waited. Of course, he wouldn’t remember me as Mrs Thompson, but he came out and greeted me. He smiled and showed me into his office, his father’s old office.
“How can I help you Mrs Thompson, you seem to think I need help?” I laughed I had done some ringing around and he was in deep shit, well over his tiny brain and in danger of losing all the hotels, and the twins inheritance. He was left nothing after his father’s death, too much of a liability, yet his mother still thought of him as her golden boy, so he kept the job. The board were having meetings to oust him, and take over, I was here to save the children’s inheritance not help him.
“I know you need help, and I am here to look out for my children’s future Dylan, not to save your sorry arse.”
“I…” He looked at me and slumped in his father’s chair. “I wouldn’t have recognised you Carrie, you look good, really good, and how long has it been?”
“I’m not rightly sure what you class as seeing me last, was it when you had me escorted from the hotel for wanting to see my children? On the other hand, could it have been when you had the police move me from the house for wanting to see my children? The children; I devoted my life to, and the ones you turned against me, you ruined, two wonderful children, spoiling them, making them hate me with your lies, you cheated on me the whole of our marriage with anything and everything.
Why, I’ll tell you why. You were jealous of the love we had; I did what a mother does and gave them everything, you took that away with your lies. I want my children to start talking to me again; you will make that happen, if you want help saving the hotels, I have the means to help, and I know a few people who can help you too. In return, you will make that happen.”
“Harriet, won’t be a problem, she actually was asking her grandmother, her advice on seeing you, after you sent her the birthday gifts, she has been very emotional since dad died, she was with him, and couldn’t save him. Dylan is getting married, Jennifer is having his child, and you’re going to be a grandmother.”
“Really, and with all the people she was sleeping with she knows it’s his how? I had her watched for months, and she had quite the harem of men to choose from, so, until it’s born I will wait, thank you.”
“She swore, he was the father they are marrying here tomorrow, Mum said she was lying, I don’t suppose you have the reports and photos have you? I suppose it was you who sent the damming ones, of their affair?”
“I may have done, she was so wrong doing you and him, I wanted to smack her stupid, bad enough she had everything I worked bloody hard for, just for putting out and looking the part, pity she wasn’t as good at doing your work as I was. Can I use your laptop? I have them on a file. Bitch isn’t getting her hands on my son.” I sent him the files; he was as egger to split them up as I was.
As he looked at the pictures and the files of her movements, he looked lost and upset. seen that looks before.
“Right, how much trouble are you in? I want warts and all facts and figures.”
“They are all with the receivers, t
hey are trying to put a rescue plan together, my buying the property for way above the asking price you bid against me for, turned the board against me, and they want me to step down. I only got the position because Mother insisted.” I wasn’t interested; if I help he will be the first to go couldn’t do the job when we were married; I hardly think he has gotten better since the divorce.
“The children’s inheritance, is it safe, tell me haven’t robbed their trust funds from them?”
“No, Mother was insistent that they weren’t to be touched, thing is there is enough in them to bail the hotel out, and call the creditors off.” I sighed thank god for his mother.
“Can you call the children to your office now, and whilst they are getting here, I will call in some favours, I have owing to me.”
Whilst he was on the phone, I rung around, and called in my markers, I had a few and would have to use them. The first one Lord Hawser, Gillard, had said anything I needed at any time.
“Gillard, it’s me Lady C, I require you to attend me, please and as soon as you can please.” He sighed.
“The mistress has, as ever only to ask and I will come running, mistress where do you require me to run to?” I gave him the address and told him it was a business meeting not a petting date, but if he were good, I would owe him big time. He was still happy to come, my accountant and my solicitor came too and a few other favours, from people I had met at my weekend getaways.
Within two hours; and with everyone now assembled in the conference room. The children looked, over at me after having an hour-long meeting with their father, who put them straight on a few things. Dylan senior and I aren’t going to be best friends, anytime soon, he also had some quite time with his son as he was shown the files and photos, he was devastated and angry, at his father. He took the wrap for my detectives work, leaving him not hating me for more things.
“Thank you all for coming, I or rather my children need help saving their Grandfathers company, one their idiot Father has managed to ruin, in the short time he has been allowed to run it. I have a proposal today, to buy the company for one pound, in doing so, I would own it, I will need help in sorting out the mass of debt on the company has, trim the deadwood, and streamline the whole company.
