“No. No…..God, I’m so sorry. No - I love you, so much. I want us to be a family. We are a family.”

“Then there is nothin’ to discuss.” I snapped at her. “You and Joey are movin’ in with me and you’re gonna have to fuckin’ deal with it, cuz I’m not gonna live in that house by myself and Joey isn’t gonna be scared in this shit-hole anymore.” I narrowed my eyes at her and added in a stern voice, “Do you understand?” All she could do was nod her head and stare at me with a look of shock. “Good, cuz this was a waste of energy, babe. Let’s get to bed, I’m beat.”

The next morning we didn’t talk about last nights hysteria; in fact, Sandy was not much in the talkin’ mood. She got out of bed before I had a chance to kiss her, and took a shower. I’m not sure what her problem was, but I let her sulk and headed into the kitchen to make coffee. Joey had already raided the cupboards and was eating a bowl of cereal, watchin’ something on his netbook. He had his headphones on and laughing at whatever was entertaining him. I took one side of his headphones off his ear sayin’, “Good morning,” he said it back and continued with his show.

While the coffee was percolating I went and checked on my woman. She had a towel wrapped around her luscious curves, still dripping from the shower. She was digging through her dresser for some panties when I walked in. I closed the bedroom door and wrapped my arms around her damp body, all the while lifting a piece of wet hair off the back of her neck and lightly kissing her. She went still from the warmth of my tongue and sighed from pleasure.

  “You okay?” I whispered.

  “Yes.”

“You got up without sayin’ a word to me. You still upset from last night?” I asked, still kissing her neck.

She eventually turned around, looking at me with her intense, green stare, and placed both hands on my face. “I’m so sorry for how I behaved last night. I’m a little embarrassed.” She admitted.

“Nothin’ to be embarrassed about, Shorty. You panicked, and that’s okay, cuz I was there to help put you back where you belong; and that, babe, is in my arms; I’m never lettin’ you go.” And with that she smiled and finally locked lips with mine.

During the course of the next week things finally went back to semi-normal; I’m not sayin’ it was easy gettin’ back on track, but I had to try to live my life whether I liked it or not. Pop wouldn’t want me to dwell on what I couldn’t change; plus havin’ Sandy and Joey in my life made things that much better and easier to look forward to every day. By the end of the week I got Pops autopsy results back; it was definitely a massive heart attack. Damn. I wasn’t too surprised, but it still shook me to the core. I had to bite the bullet and not feel guilty about that night; I couldn’t change the fact that my Pop died on my watch.

After a month of Pop bein’ gone I got Sandy and Joey settled into the house. I still had major refurbishing plans to make the house ours, but atleast we got Joey’s room repainted and decorated with new furniture. He took my old childhood room; it was good to see it be lived in once again; no more painful memories. I still wasn’t sure when I was going to go through Pops room, but I knew I had to….. soon. I also got the reading of his will. Everything was in my name; Reds, house, truck. I already knew it was gonna happen that way but it was still an overwhelming moment. Plus, finding out that he left me a good dose of money was not somethin’ I was expecting. Reds was a successful business, but I had no idea the amount of money he put away; it was going to take care of me and my family for the rest of our lives. I felt guilty about accepting the money, so I decided to put it away for Joey’s college education - and possibly other children I may have. If anything, the money was a gift from Pop and I knew he’d want it to go towards somethin’ special.

I felt it was time to head back to Reds; I was ready now that I had sold my bike business - not that anyone wanted to take over my work, but someone wanted my garage. Along with that I put my house on the market. That sold pretty fast; I got a good chunk of money from both properties so I put that towards a nice rock for my woman. She deserved the best engagement ring; I wanted to make her mine - Forever. I also had somethin’ else in mind, but that was a surprise for later on; I just hope Sandy would agree. Makin’ our family complete was what I needed and wanted. In the back of my mind I knew Pop would be proud.

I had my first full day back at Reds, after a month of ignoring the place. I knew it was time to get back to the roots of Pops legacy, but I needed to clear my thoughts; to grieve. I was actually happy to be back - which surprised me. Instead of hanging out in the office, I took the time gettin’ to know the employee’s better - as well as the regular customers. Since Pops memorial I figured it was the right thing to do. What I loved the most was seein’ Sandy bein’ manager. Watchin’ her be in control; bein’ the boss, turned me on. Just like the first time I saw her, I wanted to take her back to the office and fuck her on my desk. I loved that spit-fire. The way she handled herself with the staff blew my mind. I was glad to know she was in charge, because I would be the ass that I know I am. I know what I’m good at; stayin’ behind the desk, workin’ on paper-shit. Sandy is a natural leader. I loved that about her.

Sandy has been by my side through the tough couple months. I wanted her to go out and have a good time with her friend Peta while Joey and I had a “Mens Night.” She needed to regroup with her close friend; to relax. Joey and I needed bonding too. After Sandy went out I decided to take Joey to the pizza joint around the corner. I wanted to talk to him about his mom; I wanted to ask him if I could marry her. It seemed like the most respectful thing to do since he’s been the man of the house for so long. He loves pizza so he was pretty excited to head out to eat.

I just ordered our pizza when I decided to have our “man to man” talk. I’d say I was pretty nervous; it’s not everyday you ask your girlfriends kid you want to become their step-dad. I took a drink of my soda and cleared my throat. “So...hey, Joey, I wanted to talk with you about somethin’.”

He had his head down, colorin’ on his kids placemat. “What about?”

“Can you put down your crayon for a minute? It’s important.” He did as I asked. “Thanks bud. You know…. these last few months I’ve become very fond of your mom -”

“You love her.” Joey gleamed with confidence.

I chuckled. “Yeah. I do, very much so. And I love you too, as a matter of fact.”

Joey smiled. “I love you too, Quinn!”

“That means a lot little man, thanks. Since I love you and your mom I wanted to ask you a question - I wanted to ask you if I could marry her…... that way we could be a real family.” I paused for moment. Joey looked like he was thinkin’ hard about my question. “What do ya say? Will you allow me to be with your mom….. forever?”

His brows were furrowed, which made me nervous. Maybe he wasn’t ready for this kind of change in his life. “Huh….I’ve never had a dad before.” He admitted, quietly. “And my mom has never been married.”

I shook my head. “No. She hasn’t. But the good thing is…..is I want to be her first and last husband. I also want to be your dad...if you’ll let me, son.” Son. Did I just say that? I felt, for the very first time, that he really was my son.

“Yes. I’d like that.” Joey smiled again.

I exhaled and was relieved with his response. “Good. High five, little man.” Just as we slapped our hands together, our pizza arrived. Good thing because I was now extremely hungry.

Once we finished our meal, I paid the bill and took Joey ring shopping for Sandy. He was thrilled to be a part of this experience. I was deeply grateful for this time with Joey and that he had accepted me into his and Sandy’s life. I was a lucky sonofabitch.

Joey and I agreed on a ring; a simple white gold band with a nice big shiner on top. Fuck, I was on cloud nine right now. I couldn’t wait to put it on her finger. After buying the ring we went for frozen yogurt and headed back home. I was glad to spend that time with my future son. He makes me laugh a lot with his animated s
elf; hearin’ him explain his skylanders game made my head spin but, I loved every moment. When we got home he showed me more of how to play his latest game. Lets put at this: I didn’t do so well.

Sandy got home close to midnight; I heard her giggling as she was comin’ down the hall toward our bedroom. It was good to hear her be happy, all the while being drunk. She walked in lookin’ mighty sexy; flushed cheeks, pink lips and that drunken - green stare that pierced through my beatin’ heart. Her sexy package came straight towards my aching need and blasted me with her hot, moist lips. There was nothin’ in this world I wanted more than to let her take me. Watchin’ her give me a wobbly strip tease was such a turn on; she slowly unraveled herself from her tight clothing - throwin’ them to the side - breathin’ heavily. I instantly became harder when her finger went straight inside her panties. She moaned as she played along her clit. Fuck, she is hot as hell. Even though I wanted to grab her sweet ass I enjoyed watchin’ her pleasuring herself; it was sexy and so fuckin’ beautiful. As one finger was playin’ inside her folds, her other hand went straight to one of her nipples. Holy hell, how I was loving this. I just sat on the edge of the bed watchin’ my woman take control of her body. She was absolutely breathtaking. Just as her breathing escalated, my cock throbbed with intense need to be inside her. I couldn’t take it anymore; I grabbed her hips, makin’ her land on top of me. She squealed with pleasure as I squeezed her ass. “Fuck me, Quinn. Now.” She commanded. Who was I to turn down an invitation like that? Her breath on my lips smelled of somethin’ sweet which made me want to lick every inch of her body; I flipped her over so I could be on top of her, kissing her sweet breath away. She started to move underneath me, moaning into my mouth. Her hands pressed into my back as mine were wrapped around her body like glue. “Please...Fuck me..” She groaned. Damn I loved her dirty mouth. I unattached myself from our heat of passion and stripped my clothes off. The look in her eyes was sultry as she watched me undress. She sat up, took the remaining items off her body and gladly invited me inside. And I was gladly willin’ to take her.

The next morning I woke up to my glorious woman tangled in the sheets, naked. Her beautiful face was peacefully asleep; I loved watchin’ her chest rise up and down. I wanted to make love to her again, but I knew she needed to sleep so I got up and went for a run instead. By the time I got back Joey was wide awake, searching for some breakfast. I told him I’d take a quick shower then would make him pancakes. I chuckled as I saw Sandy still sleepin’. She really did a number on herself last night. But I’m not complaining; she was one hot number. She was stirrin’ as I got out of the shower and had a hand on her head, groaning; this time it wasn’t from pleasure. I approached her side, sitting beside her, touching her face.

  “Mornin’, Shorty.” I whispered.

  She grumbled, “Mmmm, my head.”

“Here, brought you some ibuprofen and water. Take them. I’m gonna go make Joey some breakfast.” I gave her kiss on the forehead, chuckling. She was so cute with a hangover. I got dressed and prepared Joey’s pancakes.

After I got Joey settled I went back to check on Sandy. She looked a lot better; a small smile reached her face when I walked in. “Glad to see someone’s feelin’ a little better.”

“Ha. Not even close. Feel crappy.” She muttered.

I chuckled and gave her a slow, wet kiss. “How about now?”

She shook her head. “I wish, but thank you for the kiss. And thank you for taking care of me.”

I brushed her hair out of her face and said, “Wouldn’t have it any other way, babe…..but can I say how much I enjoyed our little rendezvous last night? You were mighty sexy, Shorty.”

She giggled. “I rather agree with ya there, big guy.” I bend down and give her another kiss. “Mmmm. You have a good time with Joey last night?”

“Yeah. We had some good male bonding moments. He’s a great kid.”

“Good. What did you do?” She eagerly asked.

I filled her in on our night, excluding the ring shopping. Askin’ her to marry me needed to happen when she wasn’t hungover.

Later in the evening, after dinner, Sandy wanted us all to drive over to the beach and take a walk. She was feelin’ much better and wanted to take advantage of the late spring weather. Spending quality time as a family put everything in perspective for me. I couldn’t wait to become Sandy’s husband and to be Joey’s dad. I loved everything about havin’ a family; playin’ a little frisbee, diggin’ holes in the sand and makin’ a mean sandcastle with Joey was good as it could get. As Joey was still havin fun in the sand I took this moment to ask Sandy my question. We were sittin’ on the sand, watchin’ Joey play, hearin’ the waves crashing upon the shore and admiring the beautiful sunset. “What would you say, Shorty, if I adopted Joey?”

  She lightly gasped. “What?”

I caressed her face and looked deep into her eyes. “Yeah. I want to become his dad. Take care of him as he was my own flesh and blood.”

Her eyes started glazin’ with unshed tears. “Oh my God you’re serious.”

“Of course I am. I love him. He deserves a father.” Sandy wiped her eyes as a tear gently crawled down her cheek. I put my arm around her shoulders and handed her a small black box. She started sobbing once she knew what was hidden inside. I turned her face, wiping the tears, and proposed. “Before you open that box I want you to know something.” I took a deep breath and continued. “You changed my life. My world was shaded with black; it was fuckin’ dark and cold. Being unhappy wasn’t something I wanted - it wasn’t a life. When I met you the sparks of color filled my senses; I saw shades of every color you can imagine. You brought fire back into my life, Shorty. I’m so in love with you and want to spend the rest of my days livin’ in those shades of color with you. Marry me…..let me be your husband. Let me be a father to Joey….be my wife.”

Still caressing her face, removing the strands of hair blowin’ in her face, Sandy cried through her happy tears and replied, “Yes.” She started laughing, and grabbed me, making me fall backwards until she landed on top of me. We both were laughing and kissing as she made me the happiest bastard alive.

Much later in the night, after Joey had gone to bed, I made love to my woman - my fiance’. She was settled in the crook of my arms, gazing at her ring. “So beautiful. Joey really helped you pick it out?”

I kissed the top of her head, placing my thumb over the shiny rock. “Yeah. He’s got good taste, that kid.” I chuckled.

  “Sure does.” She mumbled.

“Just so you know, I got permission from him to marry you.”

She propped herself on her elbow, staring into my eyes. “My God, I love you.” She breathed heavily; landing her lips upon mine. I had to take her one more time.

  Chapter 23

  Sandy

Things seemed to fall in the right place after Quinn asked me to marry him. There was a carefree spirit growing inside my heart that has never been touched before; not even before Quinn. When he announced he wanted to adopt Joey I knew he was the man for me. I never dreamed of someone falling in love with me - along with my son. My life couldn’t have been more perfect. But “perfect” is only a feeling. Once you think you have everything you ever dreamed of things seemed to come crashing down. It didn’t take long for my dreams to crash.

Quinn wanted to start the adoption process, asap, so he got in touch with his lawyer. There was a bump in the process when he asked me about Joey’s biological father. I gave him all the information I had, but it didn’t help matters. He needed to find Blaine and ask him to give away his parental rights in order to let Quinn adopt. We had no idea he had to sign away his rights. It didn’t make sense since he gave away his rights when I told him I was pregnant; he left me high and dry and didn’t give a shit about his son. Quinn and I were so distraught, hoping Blaine would sign the papers. The waiting game began.

A week went by and still…..nothing. Our lawyer told us to be patient, but Quinn’s patience can only l
ast for so long. He didn’t understand why the papers weren’t already signed; since Blaine never wanted Joey in the first place it should be easy to sign on the dotted line. I had a feeling things weren’t that simple.

It was a Friday afternoon - Reds lunch rush had just ended so the restaurant was quiet and Quinn was working at the bar - going over some inventory. I was in the office, on the phone, when I overheard Quinn shouting. I had to quickly end my call and go see what the commotion was about. I caught him holding up some guy, by the collar, against the wall next to the bar. Quinn towered over this guy - nose touching him. He was seething; eyes were dark and lethal. I had never seen him this way. It terrified me. The stranger had his hands up, pleading with Quinn to let him go, but he wouldn’t have it. The closer I got to Quinn and the stranger the closer I recognized him. Holy Shit! It was Blaine!

I raced over just as Jeff, our bartender, calmly told Quinn to let Blaine go. It didn’t work so it was my turn to try. “Quinn, let Blaine go...Please.” I hesitantly touched his shoulder. I felt him finally relax. “Please. This isn’t the way to work things out. You’re only making the situation worse.” My heart was beating a mile a minute while my hands were shaking like a leaf. I exhaled a gush of air, from not breathing, when Quinn released Blaine.

Still too close to Blaine, Quinn said in a low and angry voice, “Get the fuck out of my restaurant.”

  “Quinn!” I exclaimed.

Blaine still had a look of fear, clearing his throat. “Look, I’m only here to talk, alright?” He glanced at me with his pleading blue eyes. I fell for those eyes in high school. Wow, he was still as gorgeous as ever.

“Quinn, step away.” I ordered him, sternly, by grabbing his hand and guiding him away. He swiped his hand through his hair, turning away from Blaine, and took a stand behind me. I could feel his breath landing on my neck. Boy was he mad. “What are you doing here, Blaine?” I asked quietly and in shock.
