Jason also wore jeans, cut perfectly to the contours of his body. The dark polo shirt accented the outlines of his chest and abdominal muscles which Mia could picture, remembering the exam in the emergency room. Heat rushed through her as she remembered how her hands had palpated and examined his hard body.
“Ready to go?” Jason asked with urgency in his voice, taking her hand to leave the apartment. If they didn’t leave now, he wouldn’t be able to control what happened.
“Sure.” Her sexy smile that she offered him further fueled the X-rated fantasy of her in his head. Jason felt himself getting hard---not the way he wanted to start off the date with her. He forced his mind to think about his current open cases at work for a few moments to divert the blood from his groin back to his head.
“Where are we headed?” she asked as he helped usher her into his car.
“Hungry?” he answered her with a question.
“Yes, I am.” Mia was not one of the women who hid their appetite from a man. “I see you’re feeling better.” She smiled at him. “I’m glad.”
“Me too.” Jason parked in a parking garage. As they walked, Jason’s hand brushed against Mia’s and he laced his fingers with her. Jason knew he could easily get used to touching her. She enjoyed the comfortable feel of his big hand around hers.
Mia soon found that they were headed towards Boston Common. They came upon a spot where a picnic basket had been arranged on a blanket. Jason smiled. “I was trying for something a little different. I hope you like picnics.” Usually, he didn’t try at all for women.
“This is great!” Mia loved the surprise. She couldn’t recall the last time someone had done something so fun and original for her. The past few years had been a blur of studying, testing and honing her medical craft. Kate was always encouraging Mia to go out and enjoy life but Mia rarely did. She had left little room over the past few years for enjoyment. They sat on the blanket and Jason reached into the basket, arranging a display of cheese, crackers in front of Mia, then handed her a glass of white wine.
“To us,” he said and raised his glass. She gave him a wide smile that drove him crazy.
They sat for a few hours, eating, enjoying the wine and talking. He found himself enjoying listening to her voice, her laugh, watching her facial expressions. She was a fascinating, beautiful woman and the first one that he actually had more than a sexual interest in.
As the time wore on, Jason edged closer to her, finding reasons to touch her. The simple act of brushing away a loose strand of hair from her cheek sent shocks through his system. And the smoldering looks she kept casting his way…
“So, you didn’t grow up in Boston?” he asked, after she had mentioned a childhood in southwest Florida.
“Nope. I moved here for medical school at Boston University. I graduated two years ago and was lucky enough to get a spot in the emergency medicine residency at BMC. I’ve got two years left.” Mia smiled. “I can’t imagine it all being over with.”
“Sounds like you’ve put in a lot of hard work to get where you are.” He admired her drive. “But that means that you don’t know the history of this place, I bet. Haven’t had the time to acquaint yourself with historic Boston.” Jason grinned as he motioned his arm towards the grass of the Common.
“History?” Mia asked. “It’s a park.”
“Yeah, history.” The Common was one of Jason’s favorite places in the city. “It’s been around since the 17th century. The Red Coats camped here during the Revolutionary War. Public hangings happened here. This place is so alive with history, just like most of the city.”
Mia smiled. “I thought it was just a park.” Jason moved closer to her on the picnic blanket. He relieved her hands of the wine glass they held and placed her arms around his neck. He encircled her and his mouth touched hers. Her lips were soft and had a hint of fruity taste left over from the wine. Slowly, Mia’s arms encircled him, her fingers lightly grasping his thick hair at the nape of his neck. He saw vivid desire in her dark eyes. Jason thought he died and had gone to Heaven; this woman was going to be his undoing. If just kissing her was this good…
The sound of his cell interrupted. He tried to ignore it for a moment but knew it wouldn’t stop until he answered. “Howard.”
He hung up his phone, squeezed his eyes shut for a moment and sighed. It had been his partner. “It’s my day off but I have to go into work.” He shook his head. “Shooting with several casualties. They need the extra help.”
“I understand.” Mia stood up and helped him grab the blanket. He had noted a hint of disappointment in her voice.
“I’m sorry.” He gave her a quick kiss. “I’ll make this up to you.” He was frustrated with having to leave her. He had been hoping the date wouldn’t end until the next morning.
Mia looked up at him. “I’ll hold you to that.” She definitely wanted to see him again. And she wanted him.
It took a lot of juggling of schedules, but Jason finally took Mia out on a second date; this one not interrupted. It was a few weeks after their first, as he was busy with multiple investigations and Mia was working long hours in the emergency department. Free time was scarce for both. He took her to the historic Union Oyster House, Boston’s oldest restaurant. He wanted to continue the theme of showing Mia the historic parts of Boston that he loved.
“I’ve been looking forward to this,” Mia smiled when he picked her up at her small studio apartment. “I haven’t had a night out in a long time.”
He kissed her lightly before they left her place. He more than appreciated the black fitted dress she was wearing that accentuated her curves. It led to him imaging the various ways of getting Mia out of it.
“I am glad you agreed to have dinner with me.” Outside, Jason opened the passenger door for Mia and helped her into his BMW. “You could have decided to catch up on your sleep tonight instead of spending it with me.”
“That did cross my mind,” she laughed. “But a girl’s got to have some fun sometime.”
They had a delicious seafood dinner. Mia picked a live lobster from the tank and Jason went for oysters. As they dined, they got to know each other more. She heard more stories about Jason’s prominent Boston family, including his Congressman great-grandfather. She was impressed that he had been strong enough to break from the family tradition of politics for which he had been groomed. Instead, he had obtained a criminology degree, entered into the Boston police academy and became a police officer. He had become the ‘black sheep’ of his family with his career decision. Jason hadn’t cared. He had spent the past decade as a law enforcement officer, and had worked his way up to the rank of detective in the homicide division a few years back.
Mia shared about her past, as well. She was from a middle-class family. She had received a partial scholarship to medical school and had worked while attending school to help with tuition. She was not close with her family or her younger sister, all of whom still lived in Florida. Kate, her best friend, was the only person she was close to.
“Interested in going back to Florida when you finish?” Jason had questioned.
“Not at all. I like the four seasons,” had been her reply. He had been very happy with that answer.
They had been sitting at a small, intimate table for dinner. All through the meal, Jason made excuses to touch her; his hand slipped under the table and caressed her thigh, while waiting between courses of the meal, his hand found hers, he leaned over the table once or twice and lightly brushed her mouth with his lips. Jason was usually all about control. Mia had shattered it.
Jason had planned on being the gentleman and dropping Mia off at her door after their date. After the intimate caresses in the restaurant, he had his doubts that he could follow that original plan. He walked her into her apartment and brushed her lips lightly with a kiss goodnight. Mia had responded to the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck. His touch sparked a fire within her. Jason deepened the kiss, savoring her taste. His hands moved over her dress an
d he caressed the outline of her breasts. In her mind, Mia told herself she should break from the embrace but she didn’t want him to stop. His touch was driving her wild and all she could think about was moving into the bedroom. His blue eyes gazed at her, full of desire.
“Mia,” he whispered, “I want you.” His thoughts of being a gentleman were gone. His blue eyes burned with his intent on what he was going to do to her. He knew Mia wasn’t a woman who engaged in casual sex, and that was his MO, but he couldn’t ignore the attraction and desire. Need for Mia pulsed through him. Maybe once he had her, he could get her out of his mind. She was all Jason had been thinking about since they had met. Jason had never been so affected by a woman. He looked into her eyes for an answer. She nodded.
He didn’t waste another minute getting her out of her dress. Her black lacy bra and panties soon followed. Mia moaned as his lips scrapped her neck, breasts and down her stomach. They collapsed onto the floor, not making it to Mia’s bed. Somehow, Jason’s shirt disappeared and Mia’s hands were roaming his broad chest. She felt his erection through his pants as she quickly reached for his belt buckle. He helped her discard his pants and he pulled away briefly to put on a condom. He took her back into his arms, his lips grazing down her neck until he reached her breasts, his hand simultaneously slipping between her thighs and feeling her wetness. She groaned with pleasure as his tongue teased one of her nipples and he felt her hips buck forward into his erection. Her hand followed and she lightly touched the tip of him. “Now, Jay,” she whispered, her eyes wide with lust and her dark hair splayed out on the floor. She looked far from the cool, confident emergency room doctor he had first encountered; she was driving him to the edge of control.
“God, I need to be inside you,” Jason groaned. He didn’t need any more encouragement. Jason positioned himself back over her. He grasped Mia’s wrists, holding them captive against the mattress as he entered her with one powerful thrust. For a moment, he didn’t move, enjoying the heated tightness of Mia. And then he couldn’t wait any longer; Jason started to slowly move within her. She gasped, savoring the feel of him and wrapped her legs around his narrow waist, urging him to increase his pace. He thrust harder and deeper until they both exploded. For Jason, the experience had been too quick. In his mind, the first time he made love to Mia was an opportunity to become slowly acquainted with every inch of her. In a bed. In reality, once he had touched her, he couldn’t slow down and he couldn’t stop.
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered into her hair as he released her wrists. Jason got up and discarded the condom. He returned to Mia, scooped her up off the floor and carried her into her bedroom. “You are one hot, sexy doctor,” he told her with a wicked grin.
“I was never a fan of cops until now,” she murmured as he kissed her again. Mia curled up to his warm body and snuggled against his chest. “I’d like you to stay the night,” she told him.
She was surprised at her words. She had never experienced such lust and acted upon it in her life, nor had she ever wanted a man to remain with her after the sex. Until now, sex had been a disappointment for her; her two previous sexual experienced had left her unsatisfied. She hadn’t been with a man since medical school.
Jason started to move over her again. His lips and hands were exploring her body and he felt as though he couldn’t get enough. “My wish is your command, doctor.” His voice was deep and husky as gently grabbed her wrists and pinned them above her head. Jason started making love to her again, this time slowly. Their first coupling had been driven by unbridled passion and over way too quickly. The second time would be slower and savored. He teased her both with his lips and mouth and by entering her, keeping his pace slow. Mia arched up against him, grabbing at his hips, trying to urge him to thrust faster, but he wouldn’t. Jason drew it out, thoroughly enjoying listening to Mia beg him and moan from the pleasure she was receiving, the bedding twisted in her hands. “Patience, baby,” he whispered to her.
“Oh, God…Jason…please…” Her voice was ragged, eyes squeezed shut. Jason could feel the tension in her body underneath him. He smiled, loving the tightness and warmth if her, and then thrust himself into her deeper. His rhythm quickened and he could hear Mia’s moans increase. “Don’t stop,” she panted beneath him. And then he felt her muscles contract around him, tightening against his length even more.
“So good, Mia…so sexy,” he told her as he thrust again and fell over the edge and lost control with his own release.
He awoke early, just after seven, finding the bed empty next to him. Mia had already gotten up, showered and left for the hospital. Jason vaguely recalled her telling him amidst their night of passion that she had an early shift in the morning. He felt a stab of disappointment that he hadn’t been able to awaken with Mia in his arms. Jason imagined her with a sleepy smile, sexy, tussled hair and a desire to make love again. Next time, he thought. And Jason was confident there would be a next time.
He was in no hurry to get out of bed; he found himself lingering, remembering the details of the previous night with Mia. As he lay in her bed, Jason couldn’t remember the last time he had stayed the night with anyone. Never. He was always up front with women; he was not into relationships or commitments. It was, for however long, a mutually satisfying sexual fling with him. After the sex with Mia had blown his mind, Jason thought spending the night with her would curb his desire for her. He had been wrong. The night had been amazing and he was hooked. Mia was addicting both in and out of bed. He couldn’t wait to see her---just see her---again. Shit, he thought as he realized Mia was different than all of the other women. Special.
Jason finally got up and meandered into the kitchen. She had left Jason a note by the coffee pot that simply read ‘Jay, thank you for an unbelievable night, M’. A quick smile flickered across his lips as he stuffed the note in his pocket. He remembered when Mia had first called him ‘Jay’, in the midst of their passion; he liked it. He quickly dressed and headed home to shower and change for work.
It was in the afternoon when Jason finally had a chance to break away from a crime scene and head towards the hospital. He had intended to take Mia out for a quick lunch, but figured she probably had already eaten. He was wrong.
The emergency room was packed; waiting room was standing room only. Mia and the other staff had not had an opportunity to have lunch and no one would have the chance to snag a break for hours. Jason surmised as much when he walked into the hospital lobby and headed back into the ED.
Mia saw him from the corner of her eye and couldn’t help but smile. In the few opportunities she wasn’t fully engrossed in patient care, Jason and their night together had occupied her thoughts. She finished entering orders into the computer and stepped towards him. “Hi,” she greeted him. As she studied his face, Mia hoped the previous night hadn’t been a one-time thing.
He smiled at her, remembering the curvaceous body beneath the scrubs that had driven him wild. His grin widened as he noted how her cool confidence had returned, hair pulled back---a sharp contrast to the passionate woman he had encountered last night. “Looks like you’re not going to get to have lunch with me.”
“Not today,” Mia answered, shaking her head. “It’s been a long day.”
“I can see that.” Jason in towards her and lowered his voice. “When do I get to see you again? I already miss you.” He wasn’t giving her a line. Jason had known he had wanted Mia from the first time he saw her. She was the first woman that he wanted even more after he had slept with her.
“I should be home after five.” Could he know how happy his question had just made her? Mia glanced over her shoulder at a patient in one of the treatment bays. The cardiac monitor over the stretcher was alarming. “Maybe I’ll see you tonight,” she hinted as she moved towards the alarm.
He brought take-out from a local restaurant for dinner. Mia had just gotten home and stepped out of the shower when Jason knocked at her door. She had answered the door wrapped in a towel. It disappear
ed quickly. By the time they got to the take-out, it had grown cold. After they had thrown dinner in the microwave and eaten, Jason convinced Mia to take another shower---with him. He ended up spending the night again with her.
The next evening, when Jason finally got home after a long day at a crime scene, his place seemed vast and empty. He knew Mia was working at the hospital. He was lonely and wanted to be with her. I’m in over my head, Jason thought. I’ve never missed anyone before.
A few days later, Mia met Kate for drinks. As soon as she walked into the bar, Kate knew her friend had big news. She wore a lazy smile and Kate thought Mia looked happier and more relaxed than she had in ages. They both had been busy with life and hadn’t had the chance to talk and catch-up in several days.
“You slept with him, didn’t you?” Kate accused as Mia slid into the booth where Kate already sat. Kate had already ordered her friend’s favorite, a glass of Riesling. Mia took a sip before replying, her cheeks blushing.
“Maybe I did.”
“Don’t be so tight lipped about it!” Kate demanded. “Are you at least going to tell me his name?”
Mia took another sip of wine and relayed the details to her friend. “So far, he’s perfect. I keep waiting to wake up from this dream.”
“You deserve this, Mia. You work so hard. I can’t wait to meet him,” Kate told her friend as she ordered another glass of wine for both of them. “Does he have a friend?” she joked.
That week-end, Jason brought Mia to her first Red Sox game. He loved watching ballgames at Fenway. When he had picked her up earlier in the day, he had placed a Red Sox ball cap on her head. He had on one of his Red Sox T-shirts. Mia had mentioned that she really wasn’t a baseball fan. Once she had admitted that she had never been to a live game, Jason’s enthusiasm grew as he promised her she’d have fun. He was determined and he succeeded.
