“Who do you think you’re talking to?” I said grabbing him by the shoulder.

  “Don’t touch me.” He barked.

“You don’t anything about me. I had a family once too that was taken from me. Did you know that? And that woman that is out there on my couch, I love her, and nothing is going to happen to her. Now, get out.”

I escorted him to the door and glanced over to the couch where Genevieve was sitting up, staring at me.

“Have a nice life.” Frank said.

I shut the door behind him and walked slowly towards Genevieve.

“Are you okay?” I asked her.

“I’m okay. You?” she said as she rubbed her eyes.

I could tell she was about to cry. I sat on the couch and placed my arms around her.

“I love you,” I whispered staring into her eyes.

“Do you?” she said with a soft smile.

  “I do.”

  “I love you, too.”

“Can I have you now?” I said as I lifted my t-shirt over her head.

“hmmm…I think so. I’m yours,” she answered.

I removed my shirt and stripped down to my boxers.

“First a shower, then I get to enjoy the company of the most beautiful girl in the world,” I said as I leaned in to kiss her beautiful lips but stopped when the doorbell rang. “Who the hell that can be?” I said through gritted teeth.

  I walked towards the front.

  “Who is it?” I asked.

No answer. I walked towards the living room and grabbed my gun. I motioned for Genevieve to go behind the sofa.

“Who is it?” I asked again.

I opened the door slowly pointing my gun through the slit of the door. Jacob appeared.

“Jacob, why the fuck didn’t you answer?” I barked.

“I didn’t want to say my name in case I was being followed, but you seriously fucked that up for me.” He said as he walked in to the apartment.

  “What are you doing here?”

“I got a phone call from the Syracuse police department. Alyssa has been kidnapped.” He lowered his head.

  “What?”

“Yesterday, in broad fucking daylight. They crashed into the car and dragged Alyssa out according to her brother, Daniel.”

  “Do we have a lead?”

  “Daniel didn’t see anything.”

  “Why did they contact you?”

“Anything associated with Madison’s address I get a phone call immediately anywhere in the states or overseas.”

“What are we going to do?”

“The first person that comes to mind is Jordania. Remember, she lost Andrew and never forgave us for finding her and sending her to her father. She escaped and went to Chechenia but some of her associates are based her in New York City. I don’t think Alyssa is out of the country, yet. We need to get on this quick. I need to go to see Daniel. I want you to come with me.”

“I don’t think that’s a good Idea. Madison remembers me.”

“That’s exactly why. She’s going to believe me when I tell her Jordania is involved.”

“You have to give me a minute,” I said when Genevieve appeared from behind the sofa.

  “Hi,” she smiled.

  “Hello, I’m Jacob.”

“Genevieve,” she reached out to shake his hand.

“Jacks, I wouldn’t ask you if I didn’t think this was the best approach.” He said seriously.

“I understand. Will you excuse me for minute? I feel awkward having this conversation in my underwear. Come with me.” I grabbed Genevieve by the hand and escorted her to my room and shut the door behind us.

“I love you. You know, that right?” I kissed her hard and slid my hands up and down her hour glass waist.

Not only was she beautiful, but she lit a fire in me that I just couldn’t explain. We came up for air and she stepped away from me.

“You have to leave, don’t you?” she said sadly. Her green eyes teared up. “I love you, Jacks. It was instant. I don’t know why, but, I don’t want you to leave me.”

“I’m not. Get dressed. Anywhere I go, you’re coming with me.” I kissed her again, tasting her tongue in my mouth as I swirled my tongue against hers.

She was delicious, and I didn’t want to break the kiss; but she released me and I stared at her lips and eyes and kissed her cheek.

“I’ll meet you in the living room.” Her breath hitched.

  “Hurry…” I said.

I walked to the living room and slid my pants up my thighs, put on my shirt and slipped on my shoes. I glanced up and Jacob was staring at me.

  “What?”

“I’m scared, jacks. I’m afraid I’m going to hurt Madison and it’ll be too late for Alyssa,” he said choking up.

I grabbed him by his shirt.

“You made a mistake. A big, fucking mistake.” I let him go. “But, you’re trying to do the right thing now. I will find Alyssa and kill whomever has her captive.” Genevieve walked in.

  “I’m ready.” She whispered.

“She’s not coming with us, Jacks.”

“She is or I’m not going,”

Jacobs stared at both of us. He shook his head, closed his eyes and inhaled.

“There’s no time to waste then. Syracuse is four hours from here, but we’re taking a plane. Let’s get out of here. I want to see my daughter.”

We walked out of the apartment and headed for the elevator. We both drew our guns as I grabbed Genevieve by her hand. The elevators opened, and we pointed our guns in the direction of the people in the elevator. They threw their hands up in the air, dropped whatever they were holding on the floor and screamed.

“Official business get out,” Jacob yelled.

They scrambled to pick up everything from the floor and ran out of the elevator.

I pressed the button for the lobby. We waited patiently for elevator to finally reached the lobby floor from the forty eighth floor. The doors finally opened.

We stepped out and I followed Jacob to his unmarked car.

  “Get in” he said.

I opened the door and told Genevieve to get in.

“Where are we headed to, Mr. Lewis?” the driver asked.

“LaGuardia Airport. You need to get us there ASAP.” Jacob demanded.

  “Yes, Sir.”

  Chapter 18

  Alyssa

I stood behind the tree bawling. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t have my cell phone, it flew out of my hand when we got into the accident.

Danny. Oh my God. I hope he’s okay.

I wiped my eyes and wrapped my hair into a bun. I took my top blouse off, leaving me with a tank on. I wrapped the blouse around my head and stepped away from the tree. I wiped my eyes again, glanced around the park and started to walk. Then, I started to jog. Then, I started to run. I ran and ran until I saw an opening that led out of the park. I was on the sidewalk, frantic, looking around to see where I could hide. I saw a division between two buildings across the street. I waited with my heart in my throat for the light to change and ran across the street. I ran down the alley way and sat in between two dumpsters. I didn’t know what else to do. I placed my hand on my forehead when I heard a voice.

“You okay?” An old, disheveled woman asked.

  “What?” I asked.

“This isn’t a place for you to sit alone. Lots of weirdos out here.” She said walking towards me.

I grabbed a bottle that was next to me and stood up.

“Don’t come any closer!” I shouted breaking the bottle against the dumpster.

“Wait, I’m not going to hurt you.” She said as she took a step back.

“I need a phone. Can you help me, please?” I asked.

  “Yes,” she whispered.

I walked towards her slowly with the broken bottle in my hand. I dropped the bottle after we approached a restaurant. I glanced up at the name, The Park west Café and Deli. I followed her into a café as she led me to the
back near the kitchen.

“Here, make your phone call. I have a granddaughter your age. Call your mom, the streets are no place for a young lady like you.” She said as she walked out.

I grabbed the phone and dialed my home number.

“Hello?” momma’s voice made me tremble.

“Momma? Momma? It’s me, Lyssa.” I sobbed.

“Lyssa? Lyssa! Where are you? Are you okay?” she shouted.

“Momma, I don’t know where I’m at. I couldn’t remember the name of the restaurant.” I scrambled to look for anything that had an address lying around the room. “Momma, I’m at a café. Momma, please come get me! Hurry, momma, hurry!” I shouted.

“The address. What’s the address? Lyssa calm down. Calm down.” She pleaded.

  A waiter entered the room.

“Excuse me, can you give me the address to this restaurant?” I asked frantically.

“Four, seven, seven, Central Park West,” he said.

“Momma, four, seven, seven, Central Park West, Momma! Hurry!” I shouted hysterically.

“I’m coming, I’m coming. Hide in the bathroom baby. Go! Now!” She yelled.

I hung up the phone hysterically.

  “Bathroom?” I asked the waiter.

“Through that door to the right,” he pointed.

I pushed him out of the way and ran to the bathroom pushing the door with both hands and ran into a stall and locked it behind me. I placed both feet on the toilet seat and slid down against the wall. I couldn’t stop crying. I heard the door to the bathroom open and I covered my mouth with my hand. Someone tried to open my door, then went in to the stall next to me. I waited silently for them to finish using the bathroom and flush the toilet, I didn’t feel safe.

I waited for what seemed like hours. I couldn’t stand on the toilet seat anymore, so I crouched down and sat on it, trying not to fall into the toilet. I was exhausted. I cried and cried and felt like I was falling in and out of consciousness. I needed to use the bathroom several times. I was nauseous and the only thing I could see was the eyes of that woman who wanted to sell my body for sex. I was horrified. I couldn’t believe that old woman saved my life. Why would she do that? They probably killed her by now. I finished peeing in a squatting position and wiped, until I heard someone talking outside in front of the bathroom door. I threw the tissue in the toilet, lifted my panties and pants, and stood up on the toilet seat.

“Wait here,” I heard a voice.

Please God. Help me. Help me.

  “Lyssa?” I heard momma say.

I stood silent and began to cry, placing my hands over my face.

“Lyssa? It’s momma. Open the door.” She whispered. “It’s okay. It’s okay.”

I jumped off the toilet seat and slowly opened the door.

“Momma?” I cried as I walked into her arms.

“Lyssa, my sweet baby, are you okay? Did someone hurt you?” She asked.

I shook my head and cried into her chest. “Danny’s waiting.”

“Momma, I’m scared. Don’t open the door.” I sobbed.

“No one is going to hurt you Lyssa. There’s a cab waiting outside.” She held my hand.

She opened the door and Danny was standing there. He grabbed me and momma and headed for the door. I held his hand tightly and we walked towards the cab. Danny opened the door and I slid into the back seat. Momma sat next to me. Danny opened the passenger front door. I held onto her and we both cried.

“La Guardia airport, please,” Danny told the cab driver.

“Lyssa, sweetheart, talk to me.” She insisted.

I shook my head. I couldn’t speak. Danny stood staring at me. He had tears in his eyes.

“There’s no traffic. I should be there in no time.” The cab driver said.

“Just try to make it fast,” Danny said quickly.

I grabbed onto momma and didn’t let her go. I didn’t want to leave the cab, but I knew I had to go home. Home was the only place I wanted to be and at this point, I didn’t know if I was going to feel safe there either.

  Chapter 19

  Jackson

The flight to Syracuse seemed quicker than usual. The angst of waiting to get to our destination made me keep my trigger finger on my gun. We used the FBI badge in the airport like we owned the place. My hip was glued to Gen’s and there was no way I was letting her go. She held my hand tightly and looked around the airport like she was going to get shot at any minute.

“Gen, you okay?” I whispered in her ear.

She turned to me. I knew that whisper gave her goosebumps. She smiled.

“I’m okay…as long as I’m with you,” She smiled with those beautiful full lips and I melted.

She had an effect on me like no other woman. This guy passed us by and smiled at her as he eyed her up and down. I knocked my shoulder against his.

“Hey, watch where you’re going!” he shouted.

  “Keep walking, asshole.” I barked.

Gen giggled as I placed my arm around her and kissed her cheek. Jacob glanced at us and turned his head. He kept walking as quickly as he could. We followed him as he reached the exit doors of the airport. A black Cadillac with tinted windows was waiting for us. I opened the door for Gen to the back seat of the car and I followed. Jacob sat in the front passenger seat.

  “Where to, Sir?”

“Here’s the address.” He showed the driver the address on his phone. “GPS it and step on the gas. If you feel we’re being followed, we probably are, ditch them. I need to get to this destination ASAP. Are you strapped?”

  “Yes, Sir.”

  “Good, let’s go.”

The driver stepped on the gas as Jacob requested. I glanced over at Gen. She was quiet, pensive and scared. I dragged her into this dark world and I knew she had no clue what she was getting herself into. I felt bad. This was serious, and I was putting her life in danger.

“Hey,” I whispered as I scooted over to her.

She glanced up at me with those beautiful green eyes. My body reacted immediately.

  “Hey,” she replied.

“I’m sorry.” I said stroking her cheek gently with my fingers.

  “For what?” she asked innocently.

“For involving you in this and taking you away from your life.” I stopped stroking her cheek and looked away.

“I was waiting Jacks.” She said softly.

“Waiting for what?” I said turning to her.

“For you.” She grabbed my hand. “All my life.” She smiled.

  “Me?” I asked surprised.

  “Yes, you.” She replied.

I cupped her face in my hands.

“I don’t know how this happen, but I do know, in this very moment, I feel like I’ve been reborn. I’ve been dead inside for years. Losing my brothers devastated me. Then, you walked into my life for a half an hour in a diner and I awoke. I wish I met you years ago, Gen.” I could barely breathe as I spoke.

“It wasn’t meant to be back then. It was meant to be now.” Her green eyes teared up as she leaned in to kiss me on my lips.

I swallowed hard to avoid the ball in my throat that was choking back my tears. I was overwhelmed. She made me weak and that was dangerous in my line of work. I kissed her tenderly and held her.

“I’m going to take care of you, Gen. You’ll never have to worry about anything.” I kissed her forehead and she went to lean against my chest when suddenly, the back window shattered and blew out into a million pieces.

She screamed, and I pushed her on the floor of the car. I drew my gun as the driver swerved out of control.

“Fuck! They’re on the side of us. Jacks shoot the tires from the back!” Jacob shouted.

I aimed as best as I could through the shattered back window and shot the back tire and the front. Then I thought about how I could’ve lost Gen and I lost my shit and shot at the driver. The car swerved and spun out of control and rolled over three times. I watched the car roll over and I was over
come with emotions… I laughed.

My heart pounded against my chest. I didn’t give a fuck who was in that car. They shot at us to kill us; I just returned the favor. I heard Gen crying as she stood on the floor of the car in a fetal position. I grabbed her and pulled her up. I wiped the seat carefully and made sure there was no glass she could sit on. Her beautiful face was pale and the fear in her eyes blew me away. She was trembling and couldn’t speak.

“Gen, baby, are you okay?” I asked nervously.

She didn’t answer. She just stood staring at me.

  “Baby talk to me.”

She closed her eyes and shook her head. She needed to speak, or I was going to freak out. She pointed to the back of her head. I turned around and she had a small piece of glass stuck in her head. I pulled it out carefully and the blood seeped out. She flinched, and tears brimmed at the corner of her eyes. It wasn’t enough to alarm me, but I was fucking pissed that she got cut. I grabbed my handkerchief from my suit pocket and applied pressure to the wound.

“Do you have a first aid kit in here?” I asked the driver.

“Yes, Sir it’s in the glove compartment.” He answered.

“Jacob, get it for me. Gen got hurt.” I smiled at her and she finally blinked.

Her tears fell, and I wanted to kill every person in that car. Her hands shook as she reached out for me.

“Baby, you’re fine. You’re going to be fine.”

Jacob gave me the first aid kit and I cleaned the wound. I placed gauze and applied pressure for a few minutes. Then tried my best to place a bandage. I wasn’t skillful at anything that had to do with patching heads, but I’d be damned if Gen would be bleeding all over the place without me trying to do something about it. I kissed her forehead.

“Hold this on your head baby. Apply pressure, okay?” She nodded as her hands shook.
