  I was fucking livid.

We kept on driving and I knew we would be pulled over if a cop saw us. Jacob called it in to the Syracuse Police Department and reported the incident. We knew cops would be everywhere on that road where the car flipped so we kept driving as fast as we could to get to Madison’s house.

We finally arrived at the house. Jacob got out of the car and ran to the door. He stopped and turned toward us to call his driver over.

“We need to get inside right away.” He shouted.

I grabbed Gen’s hand and opened the door to the car. I placed my arm around her shoulder. Jacob was knocking on the door, but there was no answer. I walked over with Gen and banged on the door; still no answering. I looked through the window, then took off my suit jacket and punched the window cracking it. I didn’t want the neighbors to see me breaking in. I lifted the window and asked Jacob and his driver to cover me while I crawled through the window and unlocked the door from the inside. I opened the door and they all walked in. I shut the door behind us quickly and drew my gun and walked towards the kitchen.

  “Clear,” I shouted.

I walked out of the kitchen and walked towards Gen.

“Come in here baby. Jacob, check the rest of the house and make sure it’s clear.” I said.

Jacob’s driver sat on the couch with his gun drawn. Jacob headed upstairs.

“Everything upstairs is clear!” Jacob shouted.

“It’s obvious no one’s home. Why are we staying here, Sir?” The driver asked.

“Ben, you talk too much. Just shut the fuck up and do as you’re told!” Jacob shouted.

“I’m taking Gen upstairs to shower and clean up. We just have to wait until they get back home, before we can go and search for Alyssa.”

“Should we contact the agency?” Jacob asked.

“Look, if they know that we’re here, all hell is going to break loose. Look at what just happened to us.” I said sternly. “I’m taking Gen upstairs.”

“Don’t take long, Jackson, this isn’t a hotel.” He said seriously.

I gave him a dirty look then grabbed Gen by the hand and escorted her upstairs. We entered the bathroom and she stopped in front of the mirror. She stared in the mirror as I stood behind her.

“I’d like you to take a shower. Get the dry blood out of your head and any excess glass.” I said softly.

I touched her hair while I stared at her through the mirror. She turned to me.

  “Jacks, I’m scared.” She whispered.

I placed her arms in the air and pulled her blouse over her head. She stood standing in front of me with her bra. I unbuttoned her pants and lowered them to the floor until she kicked them off with her feet. I stared at her hour glass body and lifted my hands to remove her bra. She stopped me.

  “I’ll take it from here.”

  “But…I want to.”

“I want you to, but I want you to see me naked under different circumstances Jacks. This isn’t the right time. You know that.” She grabbed the towel and covered her body.

I felt ashamed and I wanted to crawl under a rock. I was trying to cop a feel, take what I thought was mine whenever I felt like it like I always did. Genevieve wasn’t Ashley. I needed to approach her differently if I wanted to keep her. I had no clue. I was a cold-hearted bastard.

“I do. I’m so sorry Gen; for everything. Let me find you some clean clothes.”

I walked out of the bathroom without letting her speak. I closed the door behind me and walked towards one of the bedrooms. I opened the door and it definitely wasn’t a girl’s room. I stepped out and shut the door and opened the door to the next room. It was Alyssa’s. Her name was written in wooden black letters across the wall against a dark red wall. I stood in the middle of the room, glancing around at the girlie stuff she had lying around. I stopped when I reached the closet. I walked towards the closet and opened the doors. There were so many dresses and shoes the closet was packed to the rim.

I grabbed a solid red summer dress with spaghetti strings. I didn’t know if it would fit Gen, but I didn’t have time to worry about it.

I closed the closet, left the room and headed for the bathroom. I knocked on the door slowly. Gen opened the door with a towel wrapped around her.

“Here,” I said looking the other way.

“Thank you.” She said as she closed the door behind her.

I walked down the stairs and into the living room wear Jacob and Ben sat.

“Is that pretty little thing fresh and clean?” Jacob asked sarcastically.

“Not quite and do me favor and respect me. She’s not a little girl.”

“Well, she sure as hell is not your age,” Jacob chuckled.

“Actually, she’s just a few years younger than me. We don’t have time for jokes. Where the fuck do you think these people are at?” I barked.

“Hey, watch it. These people are my daughter and your niece.” He said seriously.

“I think we should worry more about where my niece is at? If something happens to her, it’s your ass on the line.”

I went to take a seat on the sofa when Gen walked down the stairs. We all stopped speaking and turned to look at her. She was stunning. Her wet hair cascaded over the straps of the red dress I borrowed. It took me a moment to drink her in. She was so beautiful. I walked towards her.

“Hey, you okay? Want something to drink?” I asked.

“Yes, water please.” I nodded my head and headed towards the kitchen.

I turned my head when I heard keys jangling on the front door and someone cursing. I walked back into the living room and asked gen to go upstairs. I drew my gun and waited for them to walk through the door.

“What the hell is going on here?” I recognized her voice. It was Madison.

I glanced at the two people walking behind her and I saw Alyssa and a young man, whom I assumed was Daniel. Jacob stopped her from walking any further. She glanced over at me and dropped her purse.

“What, what are you doing here?” she whispered.

  “Momma?” Daniel shouted.

“Take your sister and run Danny! Run!” Madison shouted.

Daniel grabbed alyssa and ran towards the door. She turned to follow them when Jacob grabbed her by the arm.

“Please, this is not what it looks like. We were called here to find Alyssa.” He shouted.

“Momma! Don’t let them take me, no!” Alyssa ran to the foyer and opened the desk draw.

Before I knew it, she pointed a shiny thirty-eight caliber at Jacob. I drew my gun.

“Don’t. Put the gun down,” I said calmly.

“I remember you. You were the…stranger on the beach. At the hotel. Who the fuck are you? What are you doing in our house? Why did you break in here?” Alyssa said through gritted teeth.

“Put the gun down Alyssa. We came here to help your mother find you. But, it looks like she’s already found you. I’m…” Jacob said.

“I don’t care who you are. But, I know who he is. You fucking bastard. Why are you really here?” Madison barked staring at me.

“Ask Alyssa to put the gun down Madison and I’ll explain everything.” I said.

“Hold the gun baby. Point it directly at his head.” Madison smiled.

Alyssa’s body shook as she pointed the gun towards me.

“Madison, we need to speak with you.” Jacob walked towards her. “Please, we don’t have any time to waste.”

  She turned to Alyssa.

“Lyssa, put the gun away and go upstairs and get cleaned up. Danny sit on the couch with me.” Madison said sweetly.

“Momma, no.” she whispered as she shook her head and began to cry.

  Madison walked towards Alyssa.

“I’ll never let anyone hurt you Lyssa, you’ve been through enough.” She said as she hugged her. “Go upstairs baby, he’s not here to hurt you. Danny stay with Lyssa. She needs you.”

“But, he was the one momma, the creepy guy from Miami.” Alyssa whisp
ered.

“He can’t hurt you. I’m right here.”

Danny walked towards Alyssa then walked up the stairs.

  “Come on, Lyssa.”

I stepped in front of Alyssa and stopped her from walking up the stairs.

“Before you go upstairs, my lady friend is in your room. She’s also wearing your red dress. Don’t shoot her okay?” I said smiling.

“Get out of my way, asshole.” She sneered.

“You are definitely related to me,” I whispered with a grin as I turned around.

“What did you say?” she asked.

  “Nothing.”

She stared at me for a moment, then walked up the stairs.

I turned around and glanced over at Madison who was throwing daggers at me. I walked over to the living room and sat on the couch across from her.

“What do you want?” she barked.

“This is going to be very difficult to hear Madison, but do you remember Jordania?”

Her facial expression changed from anger to worry.

  “Yes?” she said.

“Well, she’s resurfaced, and it seems she wants revenge.”

“You expect me to believe that?” Madison asked.

“You’re lucky Alyssa is alive.” Jacob said angrily.

“No, you’re lucky she’s alive. Why is he here?”

She turned her face away from me.

“I’m…Alyssa’s uncle. I wanted to meet her.” I said calmly.

“You actually care? It’s been years since you’ve seen Alyssa, she was one, before you turned your back on her and tried to kill me and Stone. Lucky thing he blew Andrew’s brains out before he was brutally killed by the police.” She said as her voice trembled.

I closed my eyes and was about to grab her when Gen walked down the stairs. I glanced up at her, looked back at Madison, then stood up and walked towards Gen. I kissed her forehead and she wrapped her arms around my shoulders.

“Jacks, she’s not the enemy, right now, Jacob is. Hold your temper baby, it’s not her fault.” She whispered in my ear.

I squeezed her and nodded my head. I turned towards Madison.

“I know Andrew hurt you Madison…”

“You don’t know shit. That bastard beat me and hurt me every day.” She held back her tears. “He kidnapped me and took me away from my children.” She covered her mouth for a moment as her hands shook. “He threatened me every day and then threw my kids in the fucking lake. You were there. You saw it with your own eyes. Then when he resurfaced, you covered for him. You kicked me in my stomach in that car when he came back to get me. You never tried to save me. You never did anything to protect me or Alyssa. Don’t pretend you give a fuck now, because you don’t. You’re just like him.” She finally broke down as Jacob, Ben and Gen stared at me. Gen ran over to Madison and held her as Madison sobbed in her arms. “Who are you?”

“I’m no one. Trust me.” Gen said.

Her words sliced my soul. I glanced over at Jacob and Ben. They were disgusted by me. Gen glanced up and shook her head then looked away.

“Why don’t you tell her why you’re here, Jacob?” I said eyeing Jacob.

  He cleared his throat.

  “Excuse me?” he asked politely.

“Tell Madison why the fuck you’re here. This isn’t an ordinary FBI visit to save Alyssa only. Tell her why you’re here.”

“What’s going on momma?” Alyssa shouted.

We all looked up at the top of the staircase. Alyssa and Daniel ran down the stairs.

“What do you guys really want?” Daniel stared me down.

“Jackson, you better start talking.” Madison said.

“Momma, whoever this Jordania person is, she was planning to make me have sex with men. A prostitute. She said she wanted to sell my innocence to the highest bidder, momma. This older woman saved my life.” She cried. “ She led me through a tunnel in the closet. I ran for my life and ended up in a park. I ran across the street into an alley way and an old woman saved me. She let me use the café phone and I called momma. I waited in the bathroom scared to death for hours standing on the toilet seat until they came to get me.” Alyssa stared at me.

“This is too much for me. I can’t sit here and listen to anything else.” Madison stood up and walked towards the kitchen.

“Danny help me get some wood to fix the window,” Alyssa said.

  “Yeah,”

“We can’t leave you and your family here alone Madison. You have to go into protective custody.” Jacob said as he followed her into the kitchen.

“No thank you. Last time that happened. I was set up, remember that agent Turner.” she replied.

I walked into the kitchen with Gen over hearing what Jacob told Madison.

“Look, I’m sorry. There are no words for what I did.” I said. “Please, give me a chance to make it up to you.” I couldn’t believe what I was saying. I thought about my brothers, then I thought about what Jacob did to Madison and I became furious.

She looked at me for a moment with sadness in her eyes. She believed me.

“I lost the love of my life. The only person who ever loved me for me. He knew my every thought. He knew what I felt without me saying a word. He killed my abuser without thinking twice and he killed that scumbag brother of yours as he mouthed, I love you, to me. I lost my soul when I lost Stone and I’ve never been the same.” She tilted her head slightly to the side and stared into my eyes. “I will never be the same. Do you understand that?” The tears streamed down her face.

Daniel and Alyssa walked in as she spoke and stopped walking. Gen looked at me with horror in her eyes. My mouth opened slightly. I understood exactly what she was saying because that’s the way I felt about Gen. I would give my life for her and I would kill for her.

“I do. I do understand how you feel, because that’s how I feel about her.” I turned to Gen who stood there shocked. She blushed then smiled at me.

“But, she’s here with you. I can’t hold him, kiss him or love him the way that I want to. I miss him. I miss him so much. I didn’t care that he was my brother. I loved him. I loved him.” Madison dropped to her knees and broke down. I stepped away from her. Then, I leaned down and held her in my arms.

“I’m so sorry, Madison. Don’t cry, please.” I pleaded. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. I was angry. I live with the guilt every day of leaving my brothers with my father. Especially Andrew. He wasn’t well. I fucked up on him.” I stood up quickly and stormed out of the room and walked into the foyer. I heard footsteps follow behind me.

  “Jacks?” Gen said.

I around to look at her. She looked even more beautiful standing there.

“Look, I’m not for you.” I told her.

  “Really?”

“You need to go back to the city. I’ll get people to look after you.” I turned my back on her.

“you’re not going to do this Jacks.” She barked.

  “I am.”

  “Don’t.”

“Go, Gen. I’m a worthless piece of shit and a liar. I don’t deserve you.”

“Look, we don’t have time for this soap opera bullshit. I just called the agency. They’re sending people over to get Madison and the kids.” Jacob said.

“I’m not going anywhere!” Madison shouted.

  “You have to.”

“I don’t want to. I have a life. I have a relationship with a man who needs me.”

“I don’t want this for you, Madison. I…”

“Momma, Let’s do what this man says,” Alyssa interrupted as if she knew exactly what Jacob was going to say next.

  “It’s to keep you safe.”

Before we knew it, the police and agents were knocking on the door.

“Grab your belongings. They’re here.” Jacob said.

Madison, Daniel and Alyssa walked upstairs to gather their belongings when we heard shots fired coming from outside. I grabbed Gen and sent her upstairs. I knew the police had encountered someon
e outside the house that didn’t belong there but I was never expecting what happened next.

  Chapter 21

Everyone scattered to their bedrooms. Momma and Danny started to pack. I could hear the closets opening and closing. Then momma slammed open the door and Danny ran behind her.

“Grab a light bag. We’re getting out of here.” Momma said.

  “What?” I whispered.

“They’re going to separate us, Lyssa. Danny, get your bag, now.” She demanded.

“Momma, please, I was nearly raped! I could’ve been murdered.” I whispered.

“I’ve been down this road before, Lyssa. They say they’re going to help you, then, boom it’s a trap.”

“Momma, I don’t think they’re here to harm us.” Danny said.

“You don’t understand, that animal downstairs tried to kill me.” Momma stared at me and then glanced over at Danny.

“Momma, please, we have nowhere to go.”

“We’re going to Annette’s. I just texted her. She got us bus tickets to her house.”

  “But momma,” Danny pleaded.

“Go to the attic and use the ladder to go out the window through the back. Run together by the edge of the lake and get to the park. Wait for me there.”

“No, if we go. We all go together or I’m not going anywhere.” I barked.

  “Young lady, you’ll do…”

The sound of gunfire made us hit the floor. Momma pushed me and Danny to go into the closet as she slid her body underneath the bed.

I covered my ears as the gunshots grew closer to the bedroom.

  “Momma,” I whispered. “Momma?”

I opened the closet door just a little when someone grabbed me.

  “Are you okay?” Jackson asked.

  “Where’s momma?” I asked nervously.

  “She’s okay. She’s with Jacob.”

  I grabbed his hand.

  “What happened?”

“You’re safe and you guys are staying with me.”

“No, that’s not going to happen.” Danny shouted. “We have a life. She has school. You can’t take that from us.”

“Daniel, this is serious. You’re in danger. I just shot five men outside your door that came here to recover your sister when she escaped. Jacob’s driver…is dead. I don’t have time for you to argue with me. Alyssa’s in danger. Be the man of the house and gather their things and let’s get the hell out of here.”
