Eloise: Nope. I’m cooking for us. We’ll eat together.

Isaac: As in… we’ll eat together? Or as in we’ll just actually eat together? Both sound great, but I’m preferring the former.

Eloise: If you’re lucky on Sunday…

Isaac: You’d better finish that sentence. Seriously.

“Isaac!” Tony clicks his fingers in front of my face. I blink and look up as he laughs. “Yeah, he’s got it bad.”

“I thought only teenagers got that look on their face?” Ryan chuckles.

I flip them off, down my water and follow them back inside as they make fun.

I’m actually kind of enjoying it. This is how my friends and I were when I worked in Cambridge and I’ve missed the banter.

Hopefully this place won’t be as bad as I expected, plus it gets me an extra qualification.

Elle never does finish her sentence.

When I finally get home, the sky is darkening and I smile when I see the light on in the hallway. The second I open the door I’m assaulted by two things; the first is the scent of warm garlic bread and tomato sauce coming from the kitchen; the second is a female almost flying at me.

I catch her, going back onto one foot as she collides with my body, jolting every organ out of place.

“I feel like I’ve been gone a year,” she says, nuzzling my chest and holding me tight.

I pick her up with my arms under hers and around her back, my smile never vanishing as I carry her inside.

“I feel like you’ve been gone for longer.” Kissing her head, I place her down and cup her beautiful face between my hands, loving the way her silky, red hair tickles the backs of my fingers and her startling green eyes reflect the amount of love I feel for her.

She kisses me, her arms wrapping around my neck, pulling her body flush with mine. “I have so much to tell you. I also have a ton of laundry to do. I had to bring it home with me; I’ve been too busy to do it this week.”

“Yay, trip to the laundrettes, how fun.”

“Oh, no, it’s cool. We’re going to see your mum and dad tomorrow. Your dad said I can do it all there.”

Well at least he’s not giving her grief over our choices.

I run my nose along hers before claiming her lips with a kiss that I hope tells her I never want her to leave again.

“Let’s eat. I have bad news unfortunately.”

I tense. Elle never has bad news. There’s no such thing as bad news in her world.

I follow her into the kitchen and sit at the foldaway table, which is actually what I’ve been using to measure wallpaper for the hallway. Wallpaper isn’t something I’m great at. Luckily she’s given it a clean and has covered it with a table cloth that I’ve never seen before. I seriously hope she hasn’t been buying things for the house yet, especially trivial things like table cloths. We just can’t afford it.

“What’s the news?” I thank her for the food as she places it in front of me and quickly take a bite. Starving doesn’t come close to explaining how I feel right now.

“I can’t come home this weekend.”

  Blink. “Seriously?”

“Well,” she shifts in her seat, her eyes on her fork twisting in the spaghetti, “I have to work. I did ask for them to limit my hours to week days after classes, but my manager is a bitch and said that if I don’t work at least two weekends then what’s the point? She’s not wrong. If I only work weekdays, I’ll only be doing two hours of work per day and that’s just not enough.”

I hate that what’s she’s saying makes sense. “Then I’ll see if I can come to you on those days.”

  “Your mum.”

I rub my tired eyes and sit back, staring at my beautiful wife. “It’s only for two or three years. We’ll have the holidays too. We’ll make do.”

Her body relaxes and her weary eyes soften with a smile. “Promise?”

“Yeah. Right now we both need to be working. Besides, it’ll only make our visiting times that much more special.”

  “I still hate it.”

“Me too.” I admit, though Mum needs me more right now.

  Eloise

“Yes,” I breathe, grabbing his amazing arse as he pounds into me, not withholding his strength in the slightest. “So… good.”

His forehead rests against mine and his eyes squeeze shut.

I moan, pulling him faster as my hips press upwards.

  Can’t take anymore.

A shudder rocks my body and clenches my womb. That familiar burning bursts forth, smothering my skin with an amazing tingle as everything tightens and pulses, pushing signals of unimaginable pleasure through me.

Isaac growls, moving his face into my neck, thrusting so fast and furiously that the metal frame of the bed starts to clang and bounce against the wall.

I fist one hand into his hair as my other continues helping his movements.

The pleasure lingers seemingly forever, yet still not for long enough, and finally, as I’m coming down from my high, he begins his, his entire body shuddering in the same way mine did as he loses all control.

“Elle.” He bites my name through clenched teeth, his breath ragged and coarse. “Fuck… so good.”

And then he collapses onto me, smothering me with his weight as I lie beneath him, smiling and glowing as I try to calm my aching lungs.

“I love you.” I kiss his temple and run my fingers up his back. “But I can’t breathe.”

Normally he’d roll over by this point. It’s not until I poke his side and hear a faint, grunted snore that I realise he’s asleep.

  Of course now I’m stuck.

  Bollocks.

“Isaac?” I shove at his shoulders, my arms straining as I try to push the dead weight. I should work out more; my strength rivals that of a toddler.. “You suck… seriously… you’re totally killing me right now.”

  Snore.

  “No blowjob on Sunday.”

His head whips up, his eyes tired and swollen. His mouth hangs open adorably as he blinks and looks around, clearly confused as to where he is and what he’s doing here. “What?”

I wriggle my hips, reminding him that he is still inside me. “You’re crushing me.”

“Sorry,” he murmurs, kissing my lips and sliding off my body before draping an arm across my chest and falling asleep once more.

  Men.

I flick his forehead and pull myself free. The shower is calling my name.

The next morning, after a late night of watching videos on my phone whilst Isaac slept next to me, snoring softly in his deep sleep, I make a quick breakfast and continue stripping the wallpaper in the living room. It sorely needs doing. I can’t wait until we can afford flooring, walls and a gorgeous sofa.

“You didn’t wake me.” Isaac stands in the doorway looking irritated as I scrape at the walls.

I stop and look at him over my shoulder. “You were tired.”

“I only have today and half of tomorrow with you until the next time I see you. Next time wake me.”

Eye roll. “It’s hardly late. It’s ten. Besides, I was going to wake you in a minute. We have to go to your dad’s, remember?”

He nods, still looking grumpy as he leaves the room. I hear him pour himself a bowl of cereal and, leaving my wallpaper stripping job unfinished, I flex my aching arms and go upstairs to get changed and grab my mountain of laundry.

Judith isn’t in the best frame of mind when we arrive. I notice this immediately when she calls me Claire and asks me how my dog is and then proceeds to tell me a story about her neighbour’s dog when she was a little girl. I don’t know if her story is true or not, but I love listening to her tell it.

Even though she doesn’t seem to recognise me properly, I still sit with her as Isaac piles my laundry into the washing machine.

“Did you bring the scrabble?” Judith suddenly asks, her eyes wide and hopeful. I look at John, nervous as to what to say, but she turns back to the TV, seeming to forget she even said anything. />
“How’s Cambridge?” John asks kindly, ignoring whatever that was with his wife.

“It’s amazing.” Even though I’m obviously sad about being away from Isaac, I couldn’t have picked a better place. “I love it so far.”

His smile is genuine. “Have you made any new friends?”

“Apart from my roommate, I haven’t really spoken to anyone. Classes start Monday though, so I have hope.”

“We’re going to need to do two wash loads.” Isaac interrupts upon entering the room. “Dad, you didn’t clean the filter again.”

“Oops,” John mutters, looking sheepish. “I should write a list of all of the shit your mum used to do.”

“Let’s play chess,” Judith says under her breath, rocking slightly in her chair.

Isaac tilts his head, his brow furrowed. I watch his chest stop moving as he forgets to breathe. “Mum?”

Judith hums and mumbles to herself, still rocking and completely oblivious to our presence.

“Mum?” He repeats, moving towards her, but my dad shakes his head and pats the couch. “She’s not right.”

“Isaac,” I whisper, shaking my head much like his dad just did. “Let her come out of it a little.”

He takes his seat, gritting his teeth. “There must be something we can do.”

  “There’s not,” John snaps.

  “But…”

  “Leave it, Isaac!”

I can see the need to argue swimming in Isaac’s angry, blue eyes but fortunately he doesn’t say anything. I’m starting to wonder whether or not John is coping. He seems to be giving up hope and even though I know how pointless hope must feel, he can’t give up. If he does, he’ll never forgive himself.

We just need to find a trigger to snap her out of it, but I know he won’t let us.

Part of me wonders if he’s waiting for her to become a complete shell of her former self. Maybe it hurts him too much having to go through this all of the time, watching her snap out of it before losing her again. It must be painful for him to witness. The love this man holds for his wife is heart wrenching, gut churning, bloody beautiful and it makes me envious. Even though I love what Isaac and I have, I can only have a hope that one day we’ll be this much in love.

  True to our vows.

I suppose that’s a sad way to look at it.

“Scrabble, she plays scrabble.” Judith mumbles and continues her rocking. “Letters for scrabble. Missing an S. Letters and letters of scrabble.”

I place my hand on hers and run my thumb in slow circles over her silky, wrinkled skin.

She looks at me and smiles. “I’d love a cup of tea.”

  “Then I’ll make you one.”

“I’ll do it,” John mumbles and I notice in his pain filled eyes that he’s using this time to have a moment to himself.

“How is Cambridge?” Judith asks as my heart shatters over seeing one of the strongest men I know looking ready to crumble.

  “It’s amazing.”

“My son Isaac lives in Cambridge.” Her eyes wander to her son, who looks as ready to crumble as his father. My eyes burn but I don’t let it show. “Don’t you, Isaac?”

“I used to,” is his feeble response.

“Such a lovely place.” She looks back to the TV once more.

I blow Isaac a kiss, wanting to comfort him but not wanting to leave Judith for the short time I’m here. Who knows how bad she’ll be the next time I come home? Isaac and I have a lifetime to comfort each other.

To distract himself, Isaac pulls out his phone and I hear the faint sound of a game starting as his thumbs dart across the screen. Isaac isn’t one to play games on his phone; he actually despises people who spend their time playing games and texting when in the company of others. He must really need distracting.

  Eloise: Angry Birds?

Isaac doesn’t look up. He doesn’t respond, either; he just continues playing his game.

My instincts send an alarm screeching through the back of my subconscious. I just can’t figure out why.

  Isaac

I’ve never been a huge fan of my birthday, but today I have no complaints.

We couldn’t afford to do much and Eloise got me nothing but a card and a cake, which I’m grateful for. Money is tight and there’s nothing I want, nothing that her mouth can’t do for me anyway.

We lie in bed, wrapped around each other, cake resting on a plate on my chest and candles that are glowing from random places in the room.

“What time is it?” Elle asks, reaching over me to pick up my phone. She presses the button and the screen glow reflects in her eyes. “I’ve got an hour left.”

  “Your mum is coming?”

“No, I’m driving back with Hayley and getting a train from Boston.”

“I thought your mum was dropping you off.”

She moves the plate off my chest and places it on the floor by the bed. “She was, but it’ll be easier for everyone if I just go to Boston and then get the train.”

I don’t like this but there’s nothing I can do about it. “Fine.” Her fingers circle on my abdomen as she smiles down at me. My fingers tuck her hair behind her ears before tracing the delicate line of her jaw and collarbone.

She kisses my pec and my eyes flutter closed. I let out a sigh and rub the back of her neck as the tip of her tongue traces and slides over my skin. I feel her move down, her mouth never losing contact.

I shudder at the sensations it causes in my body and shudder again when I feel myself harden.

Her hands undo my robe and I feel the cool air nip at my length when it springs free, standing proud and ready.

  The anticipation is killing me.

She teases much like I do to her, kissing, nipping and sucking the space between my hips. Her fingers scrape along my thigh making the muscles quiver and tense beyond my control.

Her hand doesn’t wrap around me but I do feel her lower lip graze the head and my lungs expand sharply as I force unwanted air into them.

She smiles against the skin of my abdomen before finally and slowly drawing me into her mouth.

In my head there’s an explosion; sparks go off; flares pop behind my eyelids; fireworks boom in my head, crackling and sizzling as my body burns.

I don’t even have to guide her as she moves up and down, pulling and sucking, keeping her teeth shielded by her lips.

It’s perfect; it’s everything I imagined and more.

I groan and my hands go to her head, delicately holding her hair back so I can watch her beautiful face as she services me. Her cheeks hollow with each pull and just the view alone drives me insane.

I want to thrust upwards and go deeper into her mouth but I’m worried that if I do anything to startle her she’ll flee and never return her mouth to that area again.

So I wait, feeling tortured and suffering with the best and most brutal tingles and burning to ever overcome my body. I let her do it exactly how she’s doing it and I have no complaints. She’s perfect; this is perfect.

“Fuck, Elle!” I cry, my voice hoarse and heavy as she does exactly what I wanted her to do.

I’m lost; I’m losing... I want this to last forever; I need it to last forever. It feels so good… too good.

My eyes clench shut as I battle for control. My hands fist in her hair, but it does nothing. Her warm, wet mouth and tongue bring me closer and closer. She hasn’t even used her hands yet.

“Slow down,” I plead, but she doesn’t.

I move my hips, trying to control the pace and movements, but it’s futile. I’m rising higher and higher.

It hits me and I come crashing down with a roar. I choke for air and pump into her mouth as my orgasm spreads through my limbs and over my skin in a powerful wave.

I should have pulled her head away; it would have been the polite thing to do, but I couldn’t. My brain is no longer my own.

As the pulsing resides, leaving the tingling afterglow, I finally exhale and open my eyes. I’ve never fel
t so spent and satisfied.

The things this woman can do to me… Christ.

“I’m not too sure whether or not I liked the ending,” Elle says and my eyes move to her. I watch her lick her lips. Holy fuck, she swallowed.

  I just died.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Her eyes narrow angrily. “What?”

“If we weren’t already married, I think I’d marry you.”

Her laughter rings pleasantly through my ears. I pull her to me and kiss her lips. “So I did okay?”

“I don’t know. Give me ten minutes and we can go again. I’ll let you know after a little bit more research.” Her hand connects with my chest so I capture it and bring her knuckles to my lips before pulling her into my side. “I don’t want you to go.”

“Me neither,” she sighs softly as I stroke her side. “I’ll be back before you know it.”

It’ll be the longest few weeks of my life. “Are you excited for classes to start tomorrow?”

She sits up, a huge, beaming smile on her face, a smile that’s so contagious I find myself mirroring it. “You have no idea. I have all of my books organised and ready for each day. My schedule is pinned to my door and to the fridge so I’ll see it and memorise it. And… I got a fluffy purple pencil case with a little rubber guitar on the zipper.”

This last part makes me laugh. Only Elle…

  “You’re a dork.”

“That gives a good blowjob, apparently.”

I roll her onto her back and crush her with my body. “Like I said, I’ll need more research before I can decide.” She goes to slap my arm but I pin her wrists above her head and run my nose along hers. “Don’t forget to have fun in university but please, don’t be reckless and don’t do anything that would destroy me as a man.”

Her eyes soften substantially and I see the concern swimming in them. “You trust me, right?”

“Of course I do.” I’m not lying either; I do trust her. “But at your age, your impulses are a lot stronger and sometimes things seem like a great idea at the time but never are in the long run. I trust you to make the right decisions for you; just be honest with me about what you want. Especially as you’ll get lonely at times and you’ll probably resent me for not being there on occasion. If you… if you ever feel attracted to another man and you’re finding it hard to… cope…” My heart lets out a heavy thump at the thought behind my words. “Please, talk to me about it. I won’t be mad at you for that, but I’d like to be able to figure out what to do before anything happens.”
