“I’ll talk to her for you.” Zoe cut in, hearing the concern and sincerity in her voice. “Hey mom, I think it’s nice that you took it upon yourself to go take over the salon until O’ returns.”

“Well, somebody has to make sure that the business continues to run smoothly. She’s worked too hard to let it fall apart now.”

Zoe smiled, because even though their mom was hard on them, she’d also move mountains for them too if she had to. “Well, I need you to go relax with dad. Take him out to eat or something and I’ll call O’ later today when I start moving around. I agree with you, though. She could call you and talk about what’s going on with her. That’s the least she can do.”

Mrs. Jackson smiled, because it was very rare for Zoe to agree with her. “Thanks love,” Mrs. Jackson said. “You should come home tonight. I’ll get your father to cook on the grill.”

“Mom, I think I may have plans tonight, but I love you. Now, bye, I’m sleepy.” She said in between a deep yawn.

“Okay, love you too,” Mrs. Jackson said. And with that, they ended their call.

  Chapter 8

Later that evening, Dillon sat on his sofa listening to the sweet sounds of the rain drumming against his window pane. He enjoyed the serene comfort of being home as his thoughts reflected on a special lady. He sat there contemplating if he should message her again to see if she was coming over since she’d stood him up twice already.

Thinking back at that night when he first met her made him smile. The Mask Your Pleasures Party had brought him some serious luck with meeting a beautiful lady, and even though he didn’t care to settle down, he still liked her. He was intrigued by her presence and the way she held her ground. Even though he kept asking to see her, she’d come up with something to avoid it. All he wanted was for her to come over so they could chill in person, but she was hesitant. Listening to the things that his brother would tell him was now starting to make sense.

Dillon glanced over toward the door upon hearing the doorbell ring. Getting up off of the sofa, he happily walked to the door and peeked out of the peep hole. Damn, it’s her. I can’t believe that she’s here. He thought as a smile immediately spread across his face. He had to stand there and watch her for a few more seconds. She was beautiful, standing about 5’7” with long, loose curled, dark brown pretty hair. As she reached out to ring the doorbell again, he opened the door up.

She glanced up at him, batting her seductive, almond shaped looking eyes. “Hey big head,” Zoe spoke with a smile just as big on her face as his.

“Hey beautiful,” Dillon spoke back. He and Zoe had met up at The Mask Your Pleasures Party and even though she’d been playing hard to get up until now, he was definitely turned on just by seeing her.

“Aren’t you gonna invite me in?” she asked, holding up a brown bag. “I have Patron.”

Dillon nodded his head with a light chuckle. “You’re asking for trouble.” He said, moving to the side so Zoe could walk in. He admired her thick frame. She was definitely a brick house with a small waist and a nice fat ass. The pretty face was just an added plus. He followed her over to the sofa where she quickly made herself at home by sitting down while popping on her spearmint gum.

“You like trouble,” she stated, all aware of his bad boy image.

Dillon grinned, sitting down beside her. “Yeah, I like trouble.” He admitted.

“I already know you do.” Zoe said while admiring Dillon’s two bedroom bachelor’s pad as she nosily looked around.

“Do you like what you see?” He asked.

“Yeah, it’s very nice in here.” She said, checking out the spacious kitchen that adjoined the entertainment room where she sat. The décor from the view she could see was black and baby blue throughout the place. Inside the kitchen, the granite countertops and cabinets were black. The appliances, including the stove and the refrigerator were stainless steel. The canisters on the counter were baby blue along with the clean dinnerware that decked out his black wooden dining table. “I take it that baby blue is one of your favorite colors along with black.” She added, realizing that the leather sofa she was sitting on was black with baby blue patches neatly stitched all over it. From experience, she could tell that it was custom made and she liked it.

“You can say that,” Dillon responded with a smile.

Zoe admired Dillon’s sexy, Kool-Aid smile. He was some kind of handsome with his dark, smooth skin. Even though he was just lounging around the house, the khaki shorts and plain white tee he wore definitely looked good on him.

“You have this natural beauty about you.” He complimented, making her smile.

“Thanks,” Zoe responded. “You are very handsome yourself.”

“I’ve heard that a few times,” he teased with a light chuckle.

Zoe grinned. “Hush,” she said, pushing him on the side of the arm.

“I’m for real,” he continued, still laughing because of the sour look on her face.

“You are so conceited,” she teased.

“No I’m not,” Dillon said. “But, you are so beautiful.”

Zoe blushed some more. “Stop, making me smile.”

“I wanna make you smile,” he said. “Who would’ve ever thought that I’d meet my brother’s ol’ lady’s sister at The Mask Your Pleasures Party?

Zoe nodded her head, agreeing. “Right,” she said. “I’ve not even met Zay, yet. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve heard a lot… I mean, A LOT about him.” Dillon grinned, because he could only imagine being that Zay didn’t mind talking his head off about Olivia.

“Since I’m getting to know you, it’s hard to believe that you would’ve been at a party like that.”

She shrugged her shoulders. “I’d heard about that party for years, and of course I was just as curious as the next. Once I got my hands on those tickets, it was going down. Plus, that was the night of my birthday. You know I wasn’t going to miss out on an event like that.”

“You’re just a freaky lil some.” He teased.

“I ain’t freaky.” She giggled. “I’m nosey.” He grinned at her. “I’m for real. I wasn’t going there to fuck nobody.”

Dillon smiled, shaking his head. “No, you sure weren’t.” He said, remembering how bad he wanted her and even though she’d grind that fat ass of hers on him while listening to the music playing, she wasn’t fucking nothing. She’d even gotten within inches of kissing him several times, but it didn’t happen.

“It was other women there wanting to fuck, though. You could’ve gotten with them.”

Dillon frowned. “And leave a sexy lady like you standing alone to be harassed by the next man??? Nah, I’d rather stand my ground. Pussy comes a dime a dozen when you’re Dillon Dubois.”

  “Dillon Dubois, huh?”

“Yep, that’s me.” Dillon said with a winning smile.

“Are your mom and dad still together?” Zoe nosily asked. She wanted to know more about his background with a last name like Dubois.

“No, my father hasn’t been around since we moved to the states. I was around four years old back then when they separated.”

“Did you say when y’all moved to the states?” She frowned with a confused look. “Are you from here?”

Dillon grinned. “Funny you should ask that. Zay and I have lived here most of our lives, but we were actually born in Paris, France.” Zoe quickly frowned. “I know it sounds crazy, but it’s the truth. My mom was a flight attendant before she had my brother and I. She fell in love with this black entrepreneur; a smooth brother that had a lot going for him. He swept her off of her feet while also getting her pregnant with Zay. Long story short, she quit working and moved to Paris to be with him. A couple of years later, I was born. All I could ever remember was that my dad was a serious businessman that traveled a lot. Life was good. Hell, supposedly all was good.”

“Uh-uh,” Zoe chimed in while clearing her throat. “What happened?”

“My mom found out that my dad had a whole nother
family. He was actually married when they met. My mom just didn’t know it until years later.”

Zoe disappointedly shook her head. “Damn, that’s fucked up.”

“That ain’t nothing. After she found out, he came clean. Then he asked her to accept it because he wasn’t leaving his wife or his other four kids. He didn’t want to leave her either, but she had to accept him having another family.”

Zoe rolled her eyes. “That’s some bullshit.”

“Apparently, mom thought the same thing and we found ourselves moving back to her hometown which was here. That’s when shit got real.” He explained.

  “Wow, what happened?”

“My mom didn’t have a job. She put in endless applications, but found herself on government assistance for the next few years.”

“I thought your daddy had all this money. What happened to him?”

“When my mom moved us, Dad cut us off. We only got two-hundred dollars on our birthdays and Christmas. He’d call only on those days to say that he loved us and it was because of our mama that we weren’t in a better space.”

Zoe smacked her lips. “He had some fucking nerve.”

“Zay stopped taking his calls once he turned eleven. He was angry with him. He didn’t understand why a man would stop taking care of his kids, knowing that they were having a rough time. I, on the other hand, just wanted to hear his voice. I mean, that was still my dad.”

Zoe felt bad for him, being that she’d always had her dad in her life. “Do y’all have a relationship now?”

“We don’t. The man I look to as my father has been my mother’s husband since I was twelve. He took us in as his own and helped my mom get up on her feet.”

“Well, that was good.” Zoe said with a smile. “How’d your brother accept him?”

“Zay and my Pops get along good. He’s a kick boxer instructor with his own businesses. So our meeting up with him was a blessing to us both. See, we’d started acting out and fighting nigga’s in school. Once he entered the picture, he showed us how to channel that anger, but in fighting inside the ring.”

“You don’t look like a fighter.” Zoe said with a light giggle.

“Don’t let the looks fool you. These hands are quick and could be lethal if pushed.” He said with a sure nod of his head.

“What all can those hands do besides knock a nigga unconscious?” Zoe flirted with a seductive bat of her eyes.

Dillon grinned. “You ain’t ready for me to show you all that.” He stared at her for a moment with a satisfied smile on his face. “You and your sister look so much alike. Your skin is just lighter.” He said, thinking that her caramel smooth skin looked so good that all he wanted to do was lick on her to see how sweet she was.

“We get that a lot, but if you really see our parents then you’d think that O’ looks more like our dad and I look more like our mom.”

“You think I’ll get to meet your parents one day?” Dillon teased, but was really trying to feel her out.

“Whoa, you’re moving too fast.” She giggled, but she really didn’t know what she wanted at the moment. She was surprised that she even showed up, being that she’d been taking it easy in the men department.

Dillon was trying to read her, but she wasn’t making it easy behind the sweet giggles here and there. “Why do you act so standoffish? Even when we talk on the phone, you’re in it one minute and then the next you’re quick talking me and standing me up.”

“It’s not like that.” She responded, leaning over to pull the patron bottle out of the bag. “I think I need a drink… Shots?”

Dillon grinned. She was cute and funny and loved dodging answers to questions he threw at her. “Okay,” he said getting up to walk into the kitchen. “Let me grab the shot glasses.” You just don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. He quickly thought while going in his cabinet, grabbing two shot glasses that he’d gotten as a souvenir on a trip to Las Vegas.

Zoe watched him as he made his way back into the living room where she was sitting. He was handsome as hell with his low haircut, deep waves, sexy dark skin, and smooth bedroom eyes. All she could do was smile. She wanted him and she wanted him bad, but she definitely couldn’t let him know it. Olivia was already drunk in love with Zay. She didn’t want to play it to close and be in the same situation as her. If what Zay had ran in the family then she would be up shit creek without a paddle. She definitely didn’t want that, being that she was already informed that he was nothing but a player.

“So, do you want me to pour or you?” He asked, but she quickly popped the top on the Patron and poured her shot glass full then handed him the bottle.

“You pour your own troubles,” she said with a smile as she threw the drink back and swallowed it quickly. The frown on her face caused Dillon to laugh out loud.

“You sure you wanna do this?” he asked, thinking that everything Zoe did turned him on. She had just better be ready for him.

“Your turn,” Zoe said, definitely ignoring his question.

“Okay, if you say so.” He responded while pouring his drink then quickly turning it up with no frowns whatsoever.

Zoe was a bit stunned. “Well damn,” she said. “You were ready, huh?”

“I stay ready,” Dillon nodded with a handsome smile spread across his face.

Five more shots later, Zoe had definitely started to let her guard down as she and Dillon talked. The way she laughed was sexy, the way she bit her lip when teasing him was sexy, the way she’d flip her long hair out of her face was sexy, the sound of her voice was sexy, everything about her was sexy and Dillon was enjoying just having her be there. He was really feeling her, but was definitely on guard a bit. His brother was already drunk in love with her sister. If what Olivia had, ran in the family then he would be fucked. Love wasn’t a game he wanted to play around with. All he wanted to do was fuck and go or in this case, fuck and she goes.

“So, do you have a girlfriend? I know a nigga that looks as good as you have somebody that you’re seeing.”

Dillon sat quietly for a moment like he was thinking. “I’m gonna be honest. I don’t have a girlfriend. However, I do talk to a few women.”

“A few women, huh?” Zoe pondered with her lips tooted. “Do you sleep with all these women?”

“No,” Dillon answered. “Some are just friends that like to call and check on me every now and then.” He confided. “I’m single. I don’t have any ties to anyone.”

Zoe nodded her head, appreciating his honesty. “Have you ever had a woman that you were in love with? Do y’all still keep in touch?”

“I had a girlfriend that I was linked to back in the day when I was a freshman in college.” He grinned just thinking back. “That was some ten years back. I can’t lie, I loved her.”

“What was her name and what happened?” Zoe nosily asked with raised eyebrows.

“Her name was Rihanna and she ended up moving away.”

Zoe frowned. “Rihanna, like the singer Rihanna?” She questioned.

“Yeah… same name, different person.” He answered almost smiling, but mixed with a frown.

Zoe laughed. “You got jokes, I see.”

“No, you’re just funny.” Dillon responded.

“So you said that she moved away. Why?”

“Yep, something happened and she had to hastily move. I didn’t even see her off.”

“So you didn’t get to say good-bye?”

“No, she actually left me a note and said that she was sorry, but she had to leave. She said that it was a personal family issue and that was it.”

  “Damn, that’s crazy.”

“Tell me about it.” He agreed.

  “How long were y’all together?”

“A year and a half,” he said. “I thought everything was good with us until I walked in my apartment that day and saw the note on my dining room table.”

“Since then I’ve sworn off love. I think mingling and being single works for me.”
/>   “I hear ya,” Zoe said.

“Now, what’s your story?” he asked as she sat there not really wanting to go into details about her life, but she’d share a little something since he did.

“Well, I was married by my sophomore year in college, only because I was ready to fuck.” She bluntly stated with a light giggle. Dillon was caught off guard, but he smiled anyway as he continued to listen. “My sister and I wore promise rings since the age of fourteen that suggested we’d not give up the goods until we were married.”

“Damn,” Dillon said in a whispered tone, now believing every word Zay had said about Olivia only sleeping with two men in her life.

“I did take that vow seriously, because our parent’s felt strongly about it. It was known that sex was one of the biggest things that led to heartbreak and wrong decisions. Lust could easily be taken for love and being lustfully in love was no good for anybody involved.”

“Makes sense,” Dillon chimed in with a light nod of the head.

“You have to know my parents. They’re sweet and they mean well, but they’re strict as hell, especially my mom. She had a plan for us. I mean, literally she had a written plan for us to go by and in going by that plan we’d be sure to be successful and happy in love or marriage. However, something went wrong in her plan.”

“Did you follow the plan?” Dillon curiously asked, feeling like just because she’d gotten married to have sex didn’t mean that it was a part of the plan.

Zoe sat for a moment with a blank expression. “Well, not exactly.”

“Okay then,” Dillon said. “So, how’d your marriage work out?”

“It lasted for almost eight years and then we went our separate ways. We both admitted to ourselves that the thrill was gone. It’s been two years now since I last saw him. He calls every blue moon to make sure that I’m good, but that’s about it.”

  “Did you ever love him?”

“I honestly can’t say. I don’t even know if I really know what love is. I’ve liked a few men, some more than others, but it was nothing serious. Chico was once my love, but now he’s my past.” Her cell phone began to ring as she looked down at in her lap. The caller ID showed an unknown number.
