“So, you basically handed the girl a dollar and sent her on her way?”
“Yes,” he laughed.
“Oh, wait. The kid.” Marlow jumped up and down in the hotel lobby. “We're going to have a kid!?”
“Yep!”
“Oh my god! Whoo!!”
Marlow had everything she wanted. She had her man at her side, and a child on the way. Everything was going to be OK. Christmas wasn't turning out to be all that bad. In fact, she felt like it was cementing their relationship. She started out battle weary and grieving, a slave to the whims of the monster she was battling inside of her, and now she was reaching heights she never thought possible. The world is a strange place, and hope is never far away.

Chapter One
He watched from across the expansive patio as her blue tankini-clad body cut through the cool, rippling water of the pool. He stood in awe of her grace. The water passed over her voluptuous curves as if it were a caress. With a small splash, she surfaced at the deep end and began to tread water.
“Hey there, stranger. Fancy meeting you here,” she hollered loftily, her voice wrenching him from his reverie. Damn. He wondered if she knew how long he’d be staring at her. Color rose in his cheeks unbidden.
“Yeah, yeah, I know. I’ve been busy,” he shot back as he crossed the patio, headed her direction. He stood at the edge of the pool, peering down at her. That bathing suit could barely contain the swell of her large breasts.
With a quick flip of the hand, she splashed water at him. Instinctively, he jumped back, only a few droplets of the chlorine scented water hitting his workout shirt.
“Busy doing what? You’re behind on the rent, you know.” She did an easy backstroke, keeping her eyes on him as she swam to the shallow end.
She wasn’t angry, but she had a point. The boy had lived a charmed life. The son of a billionaire, he had never wanted for anything. His good looks and easy charisma had gotten him into the few places his father’s money couldn’t. She didn’t begrudge him his birthright. But now, at twenty-two, it was beyond time that he learn some responsibility. Asking for rent while he lived in the pool house had nothing to do with the actual money; she was set for life. It was the principle of the matter.
Heather climbed the custom rockwork steps out of the pool, water sloughing over her tanned curves in rivulets. He handed her a fluffy white towel, hoping that she wouldn’t notice him staring. Damn, she was gorgeous and that bathing suit fit like a second skin. Her nipples hardened and showed through as the cool morning air passed over her. He tore himself away and headed for the outdoor refrigerator; anything to distract him from staring at her beautiful body. He was afraid if he looked at her much longer, he would do something they’d both regret. He popped the top and took a swig of soda. Then, he risked another peek at her. She’d finished toweling off, her short, dark hair standing on end a bit. He smiled, appreciating her carefree attitude.
“I dunno, just stuff,” he shrugged, sipping his soda. “I stopped by the office and signed a bunch of paperwork that Barbara had piled up. Made it look like I was working for a while so the members of the board wouldn’t boot me out. Then, Jonathan and I went into the city for a few days. And I still don’t get why you’re making me pay rent. It’s not like you need it.” He glanced away from the swell of her large breasts as his gaze swept over the custom designed pool, porch with a full outdoor kitchen, and large, opulent house.
Despite his aggravation at her insistence on his “growing up”, he couldn’t deny the fact that his step-mom was one very attractive woman. For years, all of his friends had wanted to come over to his house to hang out. When he was young, he had thought it was because his parents were rich and had never denied him anything, so he had every possible toy and game imaginable. As he got older, he realized that coming to his house meant that his friends could ogle his dad’s new wife. It wasn’t until a few years ago that he had truly come to appreciate her full-figured beauty. His friends still came by to see his step-mom, but now he felt a bit protective, or maybe even jealous. She was, after all, his step-mom.
Chapter Two
“So tell me all about Gage and Jonathan’s latest adventures in the city,” she said, changing tactics. She walked past him, into the glassed-in sun porch. She couldn’t help but notice his eyes watching her every move. And, truth be told, she thought she liked it. Swaying a bit more than necessary as she moved to prepare to rinse off, she hoped he was enjoying getting an eye full.
He followed her inside and draped his towering frame across one of the wicker chairs. She stepped behind a frosted glass wall and stripped off her couture bathing suit, then rinsed off using the waterfall shower. He shifted, trying to hide his erection. It was taking all of his willpower to keep from joining her behind that glass wall, especially after the come hither look she had just bestowed upon him. The glass between them only gave her a modicum of privacy. He could still clearly see the outline of her shapely body and it made him want her all the more.
Since his dad’s passing, things had changed between Heather and himself. They had slowly grown more comfortable with each other as adults, rather than their former relationship as child and step-parent. They’d never crossed any lines; just had begun to see each other in a different light. Marrying his father when she was just nineteen, Heather had always been able to identify with Gage more than most parents could with their children. After all, they were only seven years apart in age. So these new developments in their relationship had felt almost natural.
After another quick toweling-off, she stepped out from behind the frosted glass partition and tossed a sun dress over her head in one fluid motion. He shifted again. Damn, he’d gotten a glimpse of her smooth, shaved pussy and large, full breasts. If he didn’t know better, he would think she was intentionally teasing him. He wanted to yank the dress right back off her and take her where they stood.
What the hell was he doing?! This was Heather. He had to stop thinking of her like that, he chastised himself. It didn’t matter that she was the sexiest woman he’d ever seen. He couldn’t go there. He couldn’t take her there with him. He took a deep breath and tried to push thoughts of her aside.
“We went to a couple clubs, spent some time at the cabaret, stayed in Dad’s penthouse at the Four Seasons.” He tried to sound bored. In fact, he’d been bored most of the weekend. He’d never be bored with Heather.
“The cabaret, eh? You’ve been spending a lot of time there. Are you interested in one of the dancers, Gage?” she teased playfully, crossing the sunroom and motioning for him to follow her into the house. He’d follow her anywhere. Damn it, man, get a grip! He couldn’t help but notice that she hadn’t put anything on underneath the soft
linen dress.
Like a lost puppy, he followed her into the well-appointed den and abruptly dropped into the first chair he came to, hoping she hadn’t seen his excitement through his unforgiving workout shorts. “Nah, the type of girls they have there really aren’t my type.” He toyed with the small decorative statue in the shape of a fleur de lis to keep from staring a hole through her dress. It wasn’t working.
“So what’s your type?” she asked, reaching for the bottle of water she’d left on the marble topped coffee table. Knowing that his eyes were taking in the view of her generous tits, she bent a bit farther than was strictly necessary, giving him a spectacular view thanks to the v-neck bodice of her dress. This was getting to be a lot of fun.
Their relationship had never been that of mother and child. His biological mother had been in his life, albeit intermittently. Even when he was a child, Heather and Gage had been more like friends. Now that he had come of age, it was easy for her to view him as an adult rather than the little boy she’d first met. As the years had gone by since his father’s passing, Heather had also been unable to deny just how much of a handsome and sexy man Gage had become. And from the signals she’d been picking up lately, he’d taken special notice of her, too.
“I like a woman with some substance,” he replied, shifting uncomfortably in the handcrafted leather arm chair. He set down the metal figurine and then picked it up again. His fingers traced the beaded edges delicately.
“Oh, so you like the brainiacs?” she teased, thinking of the long line of bimbos he had paraded in and out of the pool house over the last several years. Sinking onto the comfort of the European leather sofa, she watched his face closely. There was something on his mind and she was going to figure it out.
Meeting her blue eyes that sparkled with mischief, he said, “well, if a girl is smart, I’m not going to dislike her for it.” He grinned. “However, I’m talking about a girl who’s sturdy.” He set down the figure and leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees.
She snorted softly, smiling. “So what exactly does ‘sturdy’ mean?” She’d always enjoyed the level of honesty in their relationship. Making him squirm in the process just added a fun element. Crossing her legs, she made sure to give him a quick peek up her skirt. Hey, it didn’t hurt to tease him a bit, right?
He blushed a little, trying to find the right words. “Well, you know…” He trailed off, blushing even further. He started to lean back, remembered that his hard cock would show through the flimsy material of his shorts and leaned forward again. If things continued like this, he wouldn’t make it through the morning.
“No, I don’t,” she replied bluntly. “Explain it to me,” she couldn’t keep the teasing tone from her voice, though she truly was curious now.
“Well, I like a girl who’s sturdy enough that you can bend her over the back of the couch and take her without having to worry about breaking her.” Both enjoying their level of candor and dying from embarrassment, he heaved himself up and headed toward the kitchen. Her laughter followed him and so did she.
“Oh Gage, that’s priceless! And speaking for all the sturdy girls in the world, I’m glad men like you exist,” she exclaimed. She clapped happily. He smiled, enjoying her girlish little quirk. She really was quite adorable.
“Jon-o likes the skinny girls. That’s why we end up at the cabaret so much.” He slid onto one of the stools at the island counter and set his empty soda can down. “He’s just like Dad. Dad never did appreciate you like he should,” he said, studying the striations on the marble countertop.
He had a point. Gage’s father had been twenty years her senior when Heather married him. They had lived happily as a family for a few years, but as time passed and Heather’s taunt young body had become thicker, her husband had become distant. It was about seven years into the marriage when Heather had found the first evidence of infidelity—a satin thong in his suit pocket, size extra small. The cliché of it all had been like rubbing salt in the wound.
Of course they’d fought about it. But Heather had bonded with Gage and couldn’t imagine leaving the towheaded teenage boy who had spent most of his life trying to get his father’s attention. So she had stayed. And her husband had continued chasing, wooing, and wasting money on coeds. He had remained a selfish man until the day he died, never acknowledging the small family who loved him in spite of it all.
Chapter Three
She shook her head as if to clear away the difficult memories. “I was about to make a batch of cookies. Want to help me for old time’s sake?” she asked with a wink.
“Absolutely!” he replied with a boyish grin. “We have been doing this for a long time now, haven’t we?” He drained his soda can and tossed it into the recycle bin. Nothing but net.
“Yeah, I’ve watched you grow into quite the handsome young man,” she replied, taking out a bowl of dough that had been chilling in the refrigerator. “It’s peanut butter. Want to lick the spoon?” she handed him the large wooden spoon, her eyes offering so many more things she’d like him to lick.
Their eyes met and in an instant her request was answered. He reached for the spoon, his moss green eyes never leaving the clear blue of her own. He gently began working his tongue over the peanut butter cookie dough. He gently applied his teeth, taking a small amount of the dough into his mouth. She was impressed with how adept his tongue was, considering his age. She’d seen men twice his age that didn’t possess that kind of skill.
Quickly, she snatched up a scoop and began spacing balls of cookie dough evenly upon the baking sheet. Desperate for a distraction from her sordid thoughts, she said, “So Jonathan is in love with a stripper?” She had no trouble at all picturing Gage’s best friend since primary school falling for a stripper. The mental image made her giggle.
With a snort and a laugh, he replied, “I don’t know that love is the right word for it. He just seems to think that if he shoves enough singles into her g-string, she might sleep with him for free.” The son of another rich entrepreneur, Jon-o had never really come to understand money.
“Has it worked so far?” she asked, glancing up from her work. He was staring at her again. And, truth be told, she kind of liked it. She dipped her finger into the bowl and kept her eyes leveled on his as she slowly wrapped her tongue around her finger and removed the cookie dough from it. His eyes widened noticeably. She licked her full lips slowly.
Clearing his throat, he replied, “no. He’s tried this with two other girls at the cabaret and has struck out with all of them. The last one, he got us kicked out by the bouncer for bothering her. I just don’t get it. He keeps going after these girls that are inaccessible to start with and then so full of themselves on top of it that it’s hard to imagine they’d be willing to even think about his pleasure, if he were able to get them into bed,” he shifted as he spoke.
The corners of her mouth turned up wickedly. This was getting to be rather fun. She ran her fingertips up and down the shaft of the scoop and watched his eyes follow. Up. Down.
“Well, curvy girls do tend to be more giving. Or, sometimes, they’re just much better at taking what they want,” she replied, turning to shove the baking trays into the oven. “I’m tempted to tell you to bring Jonathan over. I bet I could teach him a thing or two.” Oh, what a good idea, she thought. Surprising that she’d never considered it before now. Not quite as good-looking as Gage, Jonathan was quite attractive in his own way.
“You have a thing for Jon-o?” He looked incredulous. He’d never admit it out loud, but the green-eyed monster of jealousy was rearing its ugly head again. “I wouldn’t have ever in a million years pictured the two of you together.”
She smiled sagely, “it’s not what you think. I mean, he is a handsome young man. But I know a few of those.” She gazed pointedly at his eager, boyish face. “It’s more that maybe he needs to learn a few things,” she shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. “You know, he could stand to be taught to appreciate the finer things in life.
She waved the scoop in his direction to emphasize her point.
“Oh, and you think you could be his teacher, do you?” The teasing tone had returned to his voice, leaving the hard edge that had come with jealousy.
“I’m certain there’s a few things I could teach a young buck who’s willing to learn,” the statement had popped out of her mouth before she could stop it. Taking a deep breath, she forged ahead, “I mean, I could probably teach you a thing or two, also.” In for a penny, in for a pound. If she was going to make offers to sleep with his best friend, she might as well bring Gage alone for the ride too. Oooh, riding him would be fun. She shifted from one foot to the other, enjoying the pressure her thighs put on her throbbing clit.
“You think so?” he slipped back into their old comfortable routine as he questioned her. He returned to his work on the spoon, enjoying the sticky sweetness of the cookie dough.
Relieved he wasn’t freaking out and running, she quickly added, “I’ve got moves you’ve never seen before.” She sashayed to the oven and removed the first batch of cookies with a potholder. Setting it down on the counter, she took up a black spatula and waited for the cookies to set before beginning to remove them from the tray. He stood and stretched across the long island, reaching for a cookie.
Lightly smacking his hand with the spatula, she exclaimed, “not yet! They’re still hot! You’ll burn yourself!”
He sat abruptly down and made a show of rubbing the back of his hand. “Ouch! You hit me!” he mock whined.
“There’ll be more where that came from if you don’t listen to directions, too.” She brandished the spatula in his direction and tried to look menacing. Oh yes, this was just too much fun.
