“Do you really want me to stop?” He rubbed small circles around my clit then slid his finger back down and pushed it inside of me. “What time are Kevin and Claire going to be home?” he asked.

I couldn’t answer because he was slowly bringing me to a climax. I felt him smile against my shoulder, his fingers worked with perfection over my pussy. Just as I was about to orgasm, Vance and Julia’s voices grew closer as they walked downstairs and toward the living room. “Stop…stop.” I whispered and pulled his hand out of my panties.

When I looked over my shoulder at Morgan he smiled, before pecking me on the lips and adjusting himself behind me so that his hard on was pressed against my ass cheek.

“She has a bedroom, you know.” Vance’s voice made me jump.

“Be nice!” Julia replied with a laugh.

Vance sat down on the love seat and Julia sat across his lap, I felt Morgan tense behind me so I looked up at Vance. His eyes locked on Morgan for a few seconds before he glanced at me then finally at the TV.

That night ended with Morgan kissing me long and hard in front of Vance and Julia before leaving. Vance walked Julia to her car a few minutes later. I rushed upstairs to my bedroom while he was outside. When I got in my room I leaned against the door and sagged to the floor. I heard the front door shut and stood up, a couple of minutes later my bedroom door opened. Vance looked at me and started to say something but I interrupted him. “I’m going to tell him…Morgan. I can’t lie to him.” I blurted.

He clenched his jaw, “Well shit’s about to get interesting then I guess.” He said then walked out of my room.

I sat down on my bed, telling Morgan was going to be the only way I could forgive myself for cheating on him. Hurting him was going to tear my heart out but lying to him was going to slowly eat away at me. After a long hot shower I went to bed, my mind wouldn’t slow down when I thought about how and when I would tell Morgan. One thing I did know, I was going to leave it to Vance to tell Julia.

The following morning I woke up to the smell of breakfast. After brushing my teeth and changing out of my pajamas, I went downstairs. Mom and Kevin were sitting at the table eating breakfast, mom looked up when she heard me walk into the room.

“There you are sleepy head! It’s after ten I take it you had a pretty exciting and fun filled time while we were away?”

I smiled as I hugged her, “It was fun but I missed you.”

She held me tight for a couple of seconds before releasing me. “We are going to all go out for supper tonight. Make sure you wear a cute dress.” She patted my cheek then sat back down beside Kevin. He smiled at me then went back to reading the newspaper. Mom and I talked about the dance and I told her how much fun everybody had dancing. When she asked me about the cabin, I felt myself begin to blush. “It was fun, it’s always so beautiful out at night.” I told her.

Vidalia walked in, “I didn’t get home until two thirty and Vance is grouchy. He’s making me do all the hard work.” She whined as she sat down beside me.

Kevin shook his head and laughed, “I don’t know what his deal is, he was grumpy first thing this mornin’.”

“Well, I finished my chores!” Vidalia pointed out. “Maybe him and Julia had a disagreement about something stupid again. Last time she argued that Chevy’s are better than Ford’s…I’m pretty sure Vance didn’t talk to her for twenty four hours.” She said with a laugh.

Vance walked in and looked at the four of us sitting at the table eating, Kevin looked up from the paper. “You done bein’ an ass?” He asked Vance.

Vance looked at me then at his dad, “Nope.” He stated then walked away.

Kevin shook his head and got up from the table, “I guess I’ll go see what his deal is. Vi’s usually the grouchy one I didn’t know Vance had a bitchy bone in his body.”

Vidalia crossed her arms over her chest with a huff, “I’m only bitchy until noon-ish.”

Kevin laughed as he went upstairs.

“I feel horrible that we weren’t here when you got home yesterday.” Mom told me.

Vidalia looked at her, “You do realize we are old enough to take care of ourselves…right?”

Mom exhaled and smiled at her, “I know—I just worry, always will.”

We all three laughed, we listened as mom told us about their trip. They had to go out of town for a friend of Kevin’s anniversary party. “So, how did you and dad meet? He never did say?” Vidalia asked.

“Well,” she took a drink of her orange juice, “It was through a friend of a friend of a friend.”

  “What? Who?” I asked.

“Sherilyn’s cousin’s best friends brother’s girlfriend, met Kevin at a livestock show a few years back. One night when we were playing Bunko at Sherilyn’s house, Avery asked me why I hadn’t started dating again since your dad had moved on.” Mom shrugged her shoulders, “I told her that I was convinced there were no good men left and she set out to prove me wrong.”

“I wasn’t lookin’ for a woman, I was content with dating on and off.” Kevin said as he walked back into the room. He sat down next to mom, “But then Avery talked me in to calling Claire. With our schedules both being so busy, we only talked about once a week at first. The more time that went by though the more we would make time to call each other. And well…the rest is history.” He said with a smile and kissed mom on the temple.

Vidalia and I both sat there in silence for a minute, “Well—okay then!” Vidalia said.

  “Yeah.” I replied.

“You were right by the way.” Kevin said to Vidalia.

  “Huh?” She questioned.

He laughed, “Vance and Julia had another argument.”

“Oh. Well I’m gonna go lay down and relax before supper and try to process the chain of events that brought you two together. I think it’d be easier to say you met online.” Vidalia said with a smile.

The four of us laughed before Vidalia and I excused ourselves to go upstairs. “I have to tell you about Drake!” she whispered as we walked upstairs.

We went into Vidalia’s room, I sat down on her bed and watched as she rummaged through her dresser. “Come in the bathroom. I need to shower and tell you all about my night!” The smile on her face made me smile too.

I waited for her to get in and close the shower curtain before I went into the bathroom. “You in here?” She asked.

“Yep!” I sat on the sink and waited for her to talk.

“SOOO… You promise not to tell Vance and dad—or Claire right?”

“Absolutely. Spill it!” I said with a laugh.

“Well, we had sex and it was amazing! Like I saw fireworks behind my eyelids type amazing! Was it like that with Morgan?”

I smiled, “I can’t even describe how I felt. Kind of like I was floating after I…you know.”

She pulled the shower curtain back and peeked around it, “Do you think it was too soon? I mean, what if Drake thinks I’m a slut now.” Her eyes got big, “What if he doesn’t call me anymore?!”

“You’re kidding, right? Drake isn’t like that, he seems like a true southern gentleman.” I told her.

With a sigh she closed the curtain, “I really really like him. I wonder if Julia and Vance finally did the deed? I don’t want to ask because there are just some things I don’t need to know about my brother. We shared the womb I don’t care to hear about him losing his V-card.” She said with a laugh and shut the shower off.

I sat there and stared at the floor, a sick feeling in my stomach. Vidalia was one of the closest friends I had besides Rachel, if she found out that I did something with Vance she would hate me. “Earth to Tabitha!” Vidalia waved her hand in front of my face.

“What… sorry. I spaced out there for a few seconds.” I said with a smile.

“I asked what you’re going to wear to dinner tonight?”

“Oh,” I hopped off the counter and started for my bedroom, “I have a couple different dresses. What do you suppose they have to tell us?” I
asked.

She shrugged her shoulders, “Honestly? I think they’re gonna to tell us that they’re gonna get married.”

“No way…do you think?” I asked.

She laughed, “Yep, I’ll bet you twenty bucks. We’re gonna be official step siblings within a year.” Vidalia held her hand out for me to shake.

“Do you want to ride in to town with me?” I asked after I shook her hand.

“Sure! That way I’m not around Vance since he cranky. I’m totally enjoying this happy bubble I’m in.”

  < < < > > >

Vidalia was right, but rather than tell us that they were going to get married, they asked if we were okay with it. When the three of us agreed, Kevin dropped down on one knee and proposed to mom. I wiped away a couple of tears when mom said ‘yes’, seeing her happy again was wonderful. After our meal, both mom and Kevin were too tipsy to drive home so Vidalia offered to drive them. “Vance, you drive Tabitha home. I don’t like her driving at night.” Mom said with a smile.

I looked at Vance hoping he would argue but he didn’t, instead he held his hand out, “Give me your keys—SIS.”

“Mom, I’m fine to drive at night!” I argued.

“The deer have been really moving about, let Vance drive you home.” Kevin wrapped his arm around my shoulder and squeezed.

“Fine.” I walked out of the restaurant, unlocked the doors of the Hummer and climbed into the passenger seat. Vance stared at the ground as he made his way toward me. “This is going to suck.” I muttered to myself before he got in the drivers seat.

  Chapter 12

How any guy could ever brag about having sex with two different girls was beyond me. I felt like shit for doing what I did, I knew it was wrong but at the time I obviously wasn’t thinking clear. Maybe it was pent up aggression or maybe it was just meant to happen.

“So,” I cleared my throat. I was driving Tabitha back to our house. “Are you really going to tell Morgan?” I asked.

  “Yes.” She replied.

“Do you think that’s a good idea?”

She laughed once, “Having sex with you wasn’t a good idea. It was a mistake.” She said snidely.

“Was that your shot at a low blow on me? Because you and I both knew it was going to happen.” I said.

Tabitha sighed, “I mean it when I say it’ll never happen again. No kissing, no touching—it was a one time thing.”

“When are you going to tell him?”

“I’m not going to tell him over the phone, I’ll talk to him after school this week sometime.”

  “I’m sure he’ll tell Julia.” I said.

“Why are you so calm? You two have been friends for years and you and Julia have been together for a few years. I can’t believe you’re that type of guy. And do you know what the shitty thing is?”

“What?” I asked with a groan.

“That I’m going to be the one that takes all the heat. I’ll be the one that gets called a whore and you’ll get the pity party. I’ll be the disgusting one because you’re my “step brother” and everybody will feel sorry for you.”

“Then don’t tell him.” I said, because it sounded like the only option to keep the peace between everybody.

She paused in thought, “I can’t lie to him. I just can’t.”

The rest of the drive to the house was completely silent until we pulled up to the house. “Listen,” I scrubbed my hands down my face, “you do what you have to. I can’t tell you not to tell Morgan. All I ask is that you let me be the one to tell Julia.”

“That’s fine by me.” She said softly then got out of the vehicle and went inside.

  < < < > > >

Over the next few weeks it was obvious that something was bothering me. Julia kept asking me if it was because she wouldn’t have sex with me. “No, I’m just sick of Tabitha. All I hear is her talking about Morgan this, Morgan that.”

“Well that’s kind of mean. She’s happy and so is he, I don’t think it’s any reason to turn in to a dick head toward me.” Julia said.

“Sorry, I’ll try to ignore her better.” I said and kissed the top of Julia’s head. “I’d better get home to do chores. I’ll talk to you later.”

When I got out to the parking lot Tabitha was standing next to her Hummer talking to Morgan. I could tell she was crying and by the look on Morgan’s face…I knew why.

“When the fuck did it happen? ANSWER ME!” He yelled at her, causing her to jump.

“After…after formal. I’m sorry.” She sobbed.

“Un fucking real!” He put his hands on his hips and shook his head. I walked between vehicles toward my pickup.

“Morgan don’t!” I heard Tabitha yell.

“You mother fucker!” He roared from behind me and tackled me to the ground. I turned over on to my back and started to roll him off when he landed the first punch to my face, followed by a few more before I got him pushed off of me.

I spit a mouthful of blood on the ground then looked at him, “Feel better?” I asked.

Morgan clenched his fists, “Nope, not even a little bit. The fact that I knew you wanted her and you lied to me makes it that much worse.”

I spit some more blood out, “You act like you’ve never cheated on a girlfriend before. Do you forget that we’ve been friends for a long time?”

He took two steps so that we were chest to chest, “I loved her!” He pointed at Tabitha. Then he finally looked at her, “You lied to me too. You told me you loved me.”

She cried harder, “I do love you Morgan. I’m sorry that I let it happen.”

He narrowed his eyes, his entire body was tense and shaking with anger, “Well now you two can carry on with your little fucking affair. Fuck both of you!”

I heard a gasp from behind us, when I turned around Julia was standing there. Her eyes wide and filling with tears. Morgan looked at her, “Apparently she didn’t know either.” He shook his head and walked away.

  “What…you two…” Julia couldn’t even form a sentence.

  I walked over to her, “I’m sorry…”

She slapped me, “No—NO! You, you had sex with her?!” She cried. “That’s why you’ve been acting so strange, ISN’T IT?”

I couldn’t look at her, I knew that her heart was breaking, so I nodded my head in agreement.

“Why?” she yelled. “Can either of you answer that? When…when did you do it?” her voice cracked with more emotion.

Tabitha stood back, her arms wrapped around her midsection as she cried. “I don’t know how or why it happened but it did. It was a mistake and I’m sorry.” I told Julia and touched her arm.

  She jerked away, “WHEN?”

I blew out a breath, “The morning after we got back from the cabin.” I said softly.

Julia’s eyes got big then she looked at Tabitha, “You lost your virginity to Morgan the night before then fucked my boyfriend the very next morning? You’re a fucking slut!” She screamed.

Tabitha turned and walked away, her shoulders shook with each sob that she let out. When I looked back at Julia, her cheeks were wet with tears as more fell. “Why Vance? Why?” She cried.

I pulled her into my chest, she pounded her fists against my shoulders and cried. “I don’t know…” I said.

“You threw away a friendship and our relationship and don’t know why? Is it because I wouldn’t have sex with you?” she asked.

  “No, god no!”

“I deserve answers not excuses Vance. Do you, love her?” she spoke quietly and started to relax.

I inhaled and blew my breath out slowly, “Can we go somewhere and talk. I didn’t want you to find out like this.” I asked.

She shook her head no, “I—I can’t talk to you right now. When you are ready to tell me why it was so easy for you to throw away this relationship and ruin the life long one with Morgan all because of her. Then we can talk.” She pushed away from me and walked over to her car.

When I got to my pickup I started to leave
and realized that Vi wouldn’t have a ride home. I called her and she said she was on her way out to the parking lot.

The passenger side door opened and she threw her bag in the back seat, “Sorry, I was waiting for Tabitha, I still don’t know where she is and Julia isn’t answering her phone.” She looked over at me and gasped. “Vance, what the hell! Your lip is bleeding and you look like you’ve had the shit beat out of you!” Vidalia said with wide eyes.

I put the pickup in Drive and pulled out of the parking lot, “I just about left you at the school.” I said trying to break the uncomfortable silence.

“Oh no you don’t! Tell me what happened to you!” She yelled.

I blew out a breath and shook my head, “Since I’m pretty sure you’re my closest friend right now I’ll tell you. Just…don’t tell dad and Claire, okay?”

  “Okay.” She drew out.

  “I cheated on Julia.”

“What?! Are you kidding me? With who?” She asked in shock.

I looked over at her, “Tabitha.”

Her mouth fell open and her eyes got big, she snapped her mouth shut then opened it to say something but closed it again. “You look like a fish outta water…go ahead and yell at me, I know I deserve it.”

  “You’re joking, right?” She said.

“Does it look like I’m joking?” I answered with frustration.

“So…did she--who did that to you? Morgan?”

I nodded my head, yes, pulled my pickup off to the side of the road and told her she could drive. We changed seats and I stared out the window as I waited for Vidalia to ask me the one hundred questions I knew she wanted to ask. But to save her from having to ask, I decided to just tell her everything that had happened. Starting with the first kiss in the combine.

She parked in our driveway next to Tabitha’s vehicle and shut the pickup off. We both sat there in silence for a few minutes before Vidalia said anything. “I can’t believe I didn’t see that you two were attracted to each other. I normally catch on to that kind of thing pretty fast.” Vidalia laughed softly, “I guess the only question I have for you is, do you have actual feelings for Tabitha or was it just done out of curiosity?”
