I shiver even though I’m too warm, and yank off the covers. I take shaky steps across to the kitchen, intending to grab a bottle of water, but I go to the freezer instead, pouring the last of the vodka into a glass and returning to the couch. I draw my knees to my chest and stare out the window into the black night sky, waiting for daybreak.
