I sat up too and shook my head. “As if everything else you gave me wasn’t enough.”

He’d given me a necklace made from pure starlight. It was the same starlight the elves got their magic and essence from.

The thing was so bright I had to take it off after about an hour. It lit up the whole room.

  Apparently diamonds weren’t enough.

“Hey, don’t you dare deny me from spoiling you rotten. You’re mine.”

“I am yours.” I giggled. He shuffled to his knees and pulled out a box from his back pocket. Looked like something a ring would be kept in.

  “More jewelry.” I laughed.

  “You will like this.”

“Do I need special glasses to look at it?”

“No, princess.” He opened the box and revealed a delicate medieval looking ring. It was truly beautiful with a tiny diamond in the center.”

  “What is it?”

  “My mother’s engagement ring.”

The smile fell from my face as I realized what he was doing. “Her engagement ring? As in an actual engagement ring?”

“Yes, I figured it was about time I gave this to you.”

All I could do was stare at him, open mouthed. “To wear.”

He laughed at me. “Yeah, well it would be nice if you wore it. I had it sized to fit you. My father worked for six years to be able to afford this, so he could ask for my mother’s hand in marriage. I kept it just as a memory of them. Didn’t think I’d find anyone special enough to have it. Alyssa the ring was always yours.”

A tear ran down my cheek. He caught it and smiled.

“Thank you. I’ll treasure it, always.”

“I know you will. So, I was kind of wondering if you’d marry me.”

I didn’t know we could get married but with him he lived by his own laws, and since I was his I already knew what my answer would be.

  “Yes.”

To him it would always be yes.

  Always.
