Misunderstood: Dark Romance

He laid the roses in front of her gravestone. He breathed in the fresh air. It’d been a long time since he came out from his apartment ever since his trip to New York. For the past two months, he only stayed in his place. He didn’t go to work or go to meet somebody. His mother occasionally visited him, but he asked her to leave every time. He wanted to be alone—alone with her. He certainly knew Catherine was not there with him, but he didn’t want to admit. It was far sweeter to imagine that she was with him. Sometimes, he really felt that she was with him. Sometimes, he heard her saying, “Wake up, Tommy!”
“Maybe it’s you,” he said.
Since you two have same voice.
He smiled bitterly and stared at the gravestone for a while.
“Is she really with you?” he asked.
All the people he hired couldn’t find out anything about her. Everybody said she was dead. Nate even said that he needed to contact her mother to hold a funeral, but he refused. There was no proof that she was really dead. He wouldn’t take it until he saw her dead body.
Before that, no way.
He didn’t believe it. It wasn’t just because of what he saw. He was aware that it was nothing but a fantasy. He really didn’t know why, but he felt that she was still alive. Possibly, she was hiding somewhere. She wanted him to forget about her and stayed somewhere quietly.
“Is that it, Liz?” He asked, but there was no answer from the grave. “Help me, Liz.”
He stooped down to face the gravestone.
“Bring her back to me.”
His eyes filled with tears.
“Bring her back to me, Liz. I miss her. I….”
He couldn’t finish his words.
“I love her, Liz. I know I’m so stupid, and this is ridiculous that I’m asking you this, but this is the truth. I love her, Liz. I love her. I thought I could never love someone in my life but you. But…I love her. I can’t live without her. You know how I lived till now. You do know how much I suffered till now. It was just surviving. Every day I relied on alcohol and pills. Every single day.”
He wiped his tears with his hand.
“You asked me to live. You asked me to live happily ever after, so I’ve tried. I’ve tried my best and after so many years, I was really happy for a while….”
He recalled his last moments with Catherine. He really felt he was alive at that moment. He tasted what happiness was, and he couldn’t forget about it.
“So…bring her back to me, Liz. Give me a chance to be happy again. Please, Liz. Please…please….”
He shed tears. He cried and cried until the day grew dark without knowing someone was there watching him.
