“Why didn’t you tell me you knew you were going to die?” He asked.

“Chase, honey, what would you have done to help me? It was my time and there was nothing either of us could have done about it.” Jen said.

“I could have spent more time with you. Taken off of work and enjoyed the last months.” He said.

“Babe, you would have lost your job. You were new on the job, and they wouldn’t have allowed it. I’m sorry don’t think of it as something bad.”

“How can I not? You’re gone and I miss you so much.” He commented.

“Hey you have to move on from me. This Kitty girl is nice and she will be good for both of you. Don’t let it slip away from you because you are holding onto me. You will see me one day in the future, when your time comes.”

“But can’t I see you by doing this now?” Chase asked.

Jen shook her head slowly, “I do so miss you Chase. But I think if I keep visiting you like this, you’ll never move on. So, no, I will only come to Veronica and talk to her.” She saw his face fall. “It is for the best Chase, you need to move on now.”

He shook his head, “But what if I’m not ready?”

“You’ve been alone for almost seven years now that is long enough to grieve for me. I can’t make you be alone your whole life.” Jen commented.

“It is my choice. What if I refuse to move on?” He asked angrily.

“You must move on now. She is a good choice, she will love both of you with all of her heart. Plus, she really needs someone beside her who believes in her. Chase please do this for me.”

  “I don’t know Jen.”

“Why not? What is wrong with Kitty, I know you find her attractive. Please don’t tell me you are turned off by her burn. I can’t imagine you letting physical looks get in the way, have you changed my giant?” Jen asked.

Chase shook his head, “No, I don’t care about the burn. She is beautiful. I just feel guilty letting someone else into my heart.”

“You shouldn’t feel that way. You need to be loved and love. I know you have Veronica but you need a new woman, a wife even one day.” She touched his face, “Chase please don’t grow old alone.”

Her touch was gone in an instant and Chase was out of the trance. He felt shocked, wondering if he was going crazy and had imagined it all. Everything had felt so real, he could still feel her touch on his cheek.

He got up and for the rest of the day was in a semi-trance of confusion. He knew he shouldn’t hold on to the memory of what they had forever. If he had to admit it, he was quite lonely.

Chase wished he could talk to someone about this, maybe his mom. When he stopped by tonight, he would tell her about his experience.

  Chapter 29

Chase stepped out the shower, the droplets of water dripping down off of his hard body. He wrapped a towel around him and looked in the mirror.

He wiped off the condensation so he could see his face better. Scratching the extra hair that he had been growing for a few weeks on his face. “Shave it off daddy.” He remembered Veronica’s voice as she had told him to this morning.

Lathering up his face, he carefully began his shave, though he didn’t want to go completely smooth. He kind of liked the extra hair, so he shaved it so that he had a goatee left on his face.

He neatened up his work with his trimmer, and smiled at his reflection in the mirror. “Looking good Daniels.” He laughed.

He picked out an outfit that he hoped would pass Veronica’s inspection once he was at his mom’s house.

Walking out, he realized he had forgotten the meatballs, so he ran back inside and got them. He had packed up two packages, one for him and Jen and another for his mom and Veronica. The drive to his mother’s house was an uneventful one but Chase had to admit, he was excited by the prospect of a date for the first time in a long while.

“Daddy!” Veronica lunged on him when he walked in the door at his mom’s house.

“Hey munchkin! Brought you a present.” He handed her the Tupper wear container with some meatballs in it.

“Awesome, thanks daddy. I made something for Kitty today in class. Can you take it to her?” Veronica asked.

  “Sure honey.” Chase responded.

Veronica disappeared into the other room as he approached his mother. “Hey mom, that should be enough for both of you.” He said pointing to the container of meatballs.

“Thank you dear, you look very nice. Are you excited about tonight?” She asked.

“Yeah, I am. Hey mom I had a really weird experience today, I’d like to see what you think about it.” Chase began.

  “Sure.”

“I was meditating, a guy at work had shared his secrets with me how to do it. So anyway, I am in this field of daisies and Jen was there. We talked, she told me I needed to move on. She also told me she does talk to Veronica but she wouldn’t talk to me anymore, no matter how many times I meditate.” Chase explained.

“Okay, and what do you want me to say? You experienced something your daughter does every day. At least you know that Jen wants you to move on and I agree with her. You should really let her go, you can’t bring her back. Even if she did continue to come to you while meditating, it isn’t the same.” His mother stated.

“Yeah I know that mom. I just couldn’t believe it happened and really wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy.”

“No son, you simply opened up your third eye for a bit, and was able to enter the spirit world. People do it all the time, and Veronica is one of them.”

“Yeah, I kind of envy her being able to talk to Jen so easily. But I know I have to move on, she made that clear to me today.” He sighed.

“Don’t be sad, Kitty is a very sweet woman and you could do a lot worse. Veronica told me about her teacher, the little woman who’s always hitting on you. She isn’t really a nice person. Did you know that she puts down Veronica once in a while? Criticizes her skills and tell her she’s a freak.” His mother told him.

“No, I didn’t know that. I’ll have a talk with her about that. I don’t want anyone calling my little woman a freak. I wonder why Veronica never told me about it.” He scratched his face.

“I think she was hoping her teacher would stop doing it but she told me today it’s getting worse. When I picked her up she was almost in tears.”

Veronica came rushing into the room, holding something. She handed it to him, “I painted it today; do you like it?” She asked.

Chase looked at the painting, “Is that you, me and kitty sitting under the stars?” He asked, shocked by the amount of detail in the painting.

“Yeah it is.” She smiled proudly. “Do you think Kitty will like it?” She asked.

“I’m sure she’ll love it!” Chase stated. “Hey munchkin why didn’t you tell me your teacher was being mean to you?” He asked.

“I thought she would stop. But today she announced to the whole room that I was a freak. All the kids were pointing at me and laughing calling me names.” Veronica said sadly.

“I’ll take care of it on Monday.” He stated firmly.

“I know you will daddy.” She hugged him, “By the way I like your outfit; you look good. Even the thingy here is nice.” She said touching his goatee.

“I’m glad you approve munchkin!” He kissed her and put her down. He took the picture and headed to his jeep.

His nerves were on high alert as he entered the hospital parking lot. He couldn’t remember having been this nervous in a long time.

The last time was the first time he had asked Jen out on a date. He had been sure she would refuse his offer. When she had said yes, he had been in the clouds.

“I’m trying for you Jen, and for Veronica.” He muttered in his jeep before he got out and headed into the hospital.

  Chapter 30

Chase ran into Kitty moving down the hall on her crutches, “Hey speedy, how are you?” He said.

She laughed, “Far from speedy but moving much quicker than before. I’m good
, I like your goatee.” She said looking up at him.

“Thanks, I was told by Veronica that I had to clean up. She told me I looked older.” Chase stated.

“I like this new look, it is nice.”

“I brought you a painting that Veronica made in school today. She made me bring it to you.” He walked with her to her room and handed her the painting.

“Wow, it’s amazing, you have a truly talented little girl your hands.” Kitty said looking at the creation in her hands.

“Yeah, I know, she seems to have many talents. I’m sure if she wanted she could become an artist.” He commented.

“Can you hang it for me? That way I can look at it all the time.” Kitty asked.

“Sure.” He excused himself, leaving the container of food on the table and went to get some tape. Coming back in he put the painting up where Kitty directed him.

He noticed she had a meatball in her hand and was putting it in her mouth, “Couldn’t wait!”

“Honestly the way Veronica described them I had to taste it. I’m sorry, I should have waited for you.”

“No, it is okay, I’m glad you like them. They are really easy to make!” Chase commented.

“You are a great cook. Is there anything you can’t do?” Kitty commented.

“Yeah plenty of things but I’ll try anything once, and try my hardest to succeed.” Chase stated.

“I bet you succeed in most everything you try.”

“I don’t know about that. I’m trying to get back into the dating game right now, and I don’t really know how I’m doing.” He looked down.

“You are doing great.” Kitty put her hand on his shoulder, “I know it’s tough when you lose someone you thought would be with you forever but all you can do is keep living.” Kitty said earnestly.

“I’m trying. Hey, can I ask you something?” He placed the chairs beside each other and helped Kitty sit down. Then he sat down beside her after placing the candles on the table.

“Sure.” Kitty said as she looked over at him.

“Veronica told me she talked to her mother with you in the room, and that she thought you might have seen her too.” Chase said.

“Yeah, it was really freaky but I swear I saw a woman with dark hair and blue eyes sitting in the chair. But her image faded quickly.

Chase took a deep breath in and shook his head, “Wow that is amazing.”

“I know, it kind of made me scared for a minute but then I felt at peace.” Kitty admitted.

“I had a very weird experience today. I meditated for the first time and afterwards I swore I had gone crazy for what I saw.” Chase stated.

“Yes, meditation can open up new worlds for you, that’s for sure. I haven’t done it in some time, I should never have stopped; it may have made hearing my mom say what she did easier. I’m not sure how but it always relaxed me when I meditated in the past.” Kitty said.

“I swear I saw Jen and talked to her.” Chase replied seriously.

“I can believe that. Your daughter says she does it all the time and I don’t think she’s lying. If you don’t mind me asking what did you talk about? I understand if you don’t think I should know but I am curious.” Kitty stated.

“She told me it was time to move on and stop grieving. She encourages my relationship with you.” He shortened the conversation, just giving Kitty the main parts.

“Hmm, do we have a relationship?”

“I would say this is a good start to one.” He smiled at her.

Kitty reached out and touched his face. “I really like the goatee a lot, it makes you look sophisticated and very nice.”

He took a deep breath at her compliment and her touch. It felt as if a jolt of electricity pass from her fingers and through his body.

Chase moved closer to her and covered her mouth with his. It was a small kiss, tender and full of promise. She sighed as he pulled away. “You are a great kisser too.”

“That was just a little kiss, how can you tell?”

Kitty moved forward and placed her lips to his once more. Chase pulled her chair closer to him and deepened the kiss. Pushing his tongue into her mouth, he heard her moan as she responded to him.

When he pulled away they were both breathing heavily. Their foreheads remained touching as both of them calmed down enough to talk.

“I need to calm down a bit.” Chase laughed and rearranged his dick that was getting rock hard under his clothes. “The hospital is not a place to be together our first time.”

Kitty tensed up, “I’m a virgin; I’m not even sure if I’m ready or not truthfully.”

“Don’t worry if we make love I’ll be easy with you, and I’ll show you what to do. Though I think it will come to you naturally.” Chase commented.

“I don’t want to disappoint you though.” She admitted.

He took her chin in his hand and made her look up into his eyes, “You won’t, don’t be so nervous. We don’t even know when the day will come that we’ll be able to make love.” He stopped, “Have they said anything about when you’ll be released? He asked.

“They were saying today it won’t be long, especially since I started using the crutches so well. I don’t think they wanted to send me home not knowing if I could get around on my own.” Kitty commented.

“Well that and the fact that they are billing the owner of the building for all medical care doesn’t hurt.”

“Really? I was wondering how I was going to pay for this bill. Now at least I can relax and not worry about it.” Kitty stated.

“Yep, he was at fault for the fire. If there would have been working fire alarms, everyone could have gotten out safely. We were lucky that you were the one who was hurt the worst. We could have easily lost many people that night but a neighbor called 9-11 quickly and reported the fire.” Chase explained.

“Seems like someone was looking out for all of us in the building that night.” Kitty commented.

  “Yes, I think so.”

They ate the meatballs, Chase laughed at how many Kitty ate and when she finally sat back and rubbed her belly, he laughed even harder.

“I can’t believe I just ate that much!” She laughed. “I’m going to get so fat, I think I’ve already put on 10 pounds since I’ve been here.”

“I think you look nice, the extra weight adds to your beauty. Before your cheeks had a sunken in look that made you look as if you were starving. Now they are nice and full.”

“You’re only saying that because you like a woman with meat on her bones!” Chase and Kitty laughed together.

“That reminds me, I have to discuss what is said around my daughter.” He commented.

Chase also told Kitty about what the teacher had done to Veronica at school.

“That’s horrible, she shouldn’t be teaching kids. Do you have any idea what Veronica might have said?” Kitty asked.

“She told me she had made a comment to her about talking to her mother. The teacher knows her mother is dead, and asked Veronica how do you do that, she’s dead. Veronica explained to her that her mother talks to her at night when she’s sleeping.” Chase explained.

  “Is Veronica okay?” Kitty asked.

“Yeah but she’s hurt that all the kids joined in and laughed at her. Though she did say a few of them didn’t laugh, it still upset her. I’m not sure what I’m going to do about it. I know I’ll have to tell Veronica to not tell everyone about this skill she has, or they will look at her oddly.”

“Yes, but that teacher should be fired.” Kitty commented. “We often scoff at those things we don’t understand.”

“Yeah I know. I might move her to another school if they don’t get rid of the teacher.” He commented.

‘I would do it, if the school doesn’t see this as bullying, which it is, then you shouldn’t send her there. It will only continue and get worse if the teacher thinks she got away with it. It makes me angry when adults bully children. Veronica is such a sweet, innocent child, she needs to be protected
not ridiculed.” Kitty commented.

“I know.” Chase popped the last meatball into his mouth and smiled at Kitty.

  Chapter 31

Chase picked up Veronica and carried her to the jeep. When he placed her in the vehicle she woke up for a minute and asked, “How was your date daddy? Did you kiss her?”

“It was a nice date, and as far as kissing, you don’t need to know such things, you are too young.” Chase commented.

“Hmm.” Veronica made a noise but was soon fast asleep as he drove them home.

She didn’t wake up as he carried her into the house. He lay her down on her bed and covered her up, kissing her on the forehead.

  ***

Chase went to take a shower. He needed a nice cold one to calm down from his night with Kitty. More than once when they had kissed his body had reacted and he felt like he was left with a case of blue balls.

He moved his hands down his rock-hard abs and enclosed his fist around his hardness. He was used to masturbating, it had been the only release he’d had for almost eight years now.

He closed his eyes and fantasized about Kitty. Lowering her on the bed and kissing her naked body. He was sure under her clothes she was beautiful. Some of her photo shoots had shown off that body before. Chase had enjoyed looking at them and now used them for material to get off.

He wondered what it would be like making love to her. She had told him she was a virgin. He clamped his fist around his cock tighter thinking of her tight hole and pushing into her. His seed sped out of his cock and splattered against the walls of the shower.

Chase cleaned up the mess and made his way to bed. That night he had a wet dream about making love to Kitty, and woke up with another mess to clean up.

He hoped that she would soon be out of the hospital. Tomorrow he’d start looking for a place near him that she could move into. He wasn’t quite ready to move her into his home, it just seemed too quick for that step.

Maybe later on but for now, it is best if we have our space too, he thought.
