He held me while I moaned and spasmed against him. When my body finally spiraled downward, he climbed on top of me, looking me directly in the eyes as he slowly slid inside. I sighed, feeling whole again with his body joined with mine. We should have grabbed a condom, but I needed to feel his skin against mine. I loved him completely.

His jaw clenched once he was seated deep inside. He moved his thumbs to my cheeks to brush away the tears that had spilled from my eyes. Being with him could be raw and passionate or like this, sweet and beautiful.

“You feel so good inside me,” I said softly, wanting our bodies to be joined like they were forever.

He moved back and forth, his body melding with mine with every stroke. I could feel the fire burning in my belly again and knew I was heading into another climax. I wanted to wait, I wanted to make this night last forever. He must have sensed my need and slowed his pace, his eyes holding mine the whole time.

He stopped moving, his weight supported by his arms as he leaned down and kissed me. His tongue moving over my lips before pulling my bottom lip with his teeth. It triggered a reaction deep inside me, leaving me arching and moaning as white-hot fire spiraled out through my veins.

“I’m going to come,” he groaned.

I nodded my head, knowing what he needed. My fingertips moved up and down his back as he pushed in and out, groaning with pleasure each time. I squeezed my legs around him, holding him tight against my body, not letting him pull out and bringing him closer to me.

I lifted my hips, taking him deeper before slowly rotating and grinding against him.

“Oh shit!” he cried out, encouraging me to repeat the action. I loved hearing him gasp with supreme pleasure. I wanted to give him the same pleasure he had given me.

My hands reached his butt, squeezing him while pushing upward with my hips. He stiffened, his head going back, the veins on his neck popping out with strain as he bounced against me, grunting deep in his throat.

“Now, baby, now,” I whispered, my eyes fluttering closed as I let him take me to our special place high in the sky with a million stars exploding around us. My body arched before it began to ebb and flow back down with him right beside me.

He leaned down and kissed me, slowly rolling his tongue inside my mouth, tasting me before finally falling beside me, his arm draped across my chest and holding me close. I couldn’t talk. My throat was raw with emotion. I felt we had shared our souls in that moment. We were eternally bound together.

  “I love you,” I whispered.

  “I love you.”

“The words feel so inadequate for what I really feel. I love you with every fiber of my body. Every cell, every part of me loves every part of you,” I told him, trying to find a way to truly express how I felt about him.

“I get it. I understand. I feel the same way about you. I can’t imagine taking a breath without you in this world beside me. I never want to be apart from you. I finally understand what my dad felt for my mother. I can see why he never wanted another woman.”

I smiled against his neck. “I feel the same way. I will never be able to love another person like I love you. I know it isn’t possible. You are in every corner of my heart and soul. No man could ever compare.”

He chuckled softly against my head. “I’m yours. I’m all yours.”

“And I’m all yours. Even when we do have to be apart for work or for whatever reason, promise me you will never doubt my love or loyalty to you. You are my everything, and I will never risk that,” I told him.

We lay together in each other’s arms before making love again. Making love was so much different than the sex we had. While I loved both, making love to the man I loved was far more intimate and made everything feel that much more arousing. I could not imagine my life without Terran in it, and I hoped I never had to know what that world would be like.

  One Year Later

I was more than a little nervous as I sat in the chair assigned to us in the second row. Terran put his hand on my knee and squeezed. I looked at him and smiled. When Gabriel had called to tell me I had been nominated for best actress in a feature film, I had nearly passed out. Our film had barely met the deadline to be nominated for anything.

“You look absolutely stunning,” Terran said, staring at me with eyes full of love.

“Thank you,” I said, smoothing down the long fitted black gown I was wearing. Terran had bought me a new diamond necklace to go with the dress. My hair was piled on my head in a fancy updo, leaving my neck exposed and the necklace fully visible. I loved telling everyone on the red carpet that asked that my husband had given it to me as a gift for my nomination. I had made more than one of the female reporters green with envy.

“You’ve got this,” Terran whispered in my ear.

“I’m freaking out,” I gushed, my finger twirling the wedding ring on my finger. Memories of our wedding a few months back washed over me. Don’t cry.

It had been perfect. Terran had made sure of that. We tied the knot, found out we got the house and moved in. It was a dream come true. Almost like the moment I was sitting in. Life couldn’t have been better.

I took a shaky breath and tried to slow my racing heart.

“Relax. I think your category is next. Remember, even if you don’t win, you still win for being nominated on your first film. You are one of a few actresses who can say that.”

“I think I’m going to be sick,” I said, not even lying. I felt nauseous for more reasons than one. The auditorium was warm and stuffy with all the bodies packed in. I should have been gazing around, starstruck by the number of famous faces surrounding me, but all I could think about was what if my name was called. What if I had to get up on that stage. I hadn’t prepared a speech, certain that would jinx me if I did.

“Take a deep breath and relax. You’re fidgeting. As soon as your category is announced, we can go,” he assured me.

I nodded my head. “Okay, I can last a little longer, but I really do need to go to the bathroom,” I whispered.

He laughed, shaking his head. “Stop squirming. You’re worse than a little kid.”

I scowled at him. “I had no idea these things lasted so long.”

Gabriel was on my other side. He nudged my arm. “This is one of the shorter awards ceremonies. Trust me, wait until the big ones, then you are going to wish you were anywhere but here. You could have someone accept it on your behalf you know.”

I rolled my eyes. “I don’t think that would go over so well.”

  He smirked. “Probably not.”

“Next up, we have our best lead actress in a feature film,” the announcer began.

I felt the butterflies start to dance a jig in my belly and was convinced I would throw-up before my name was even announced as a nominee. Of course, with every nominee, they had to play a clip from the film we were nominated for, making the whole process drag out even longer. I saw my face on the screen and cringed. It was embarrassing to see myself in character.

There was complete silence as the female presenter open the red envelope. I don’t think I took a breath for a good three minutes as we waited for the drama to be stretched out. “And the winner is…Hailey Hollis-Maddox!”

I froze. I couldn’t move. Everyone was clapping, but I couldn’t move. I had to be dreaming. This was one of those nightmares that when I stood up, I was going to be completely naked getting to the podium. I looked down, touched my chest, making sure my dress was really on.

“Go!” Terran shouted near my ear.

“What? Me? Seriously?” I gasped, my mouth suddenly dry.

“Yes, now go! Get up there and get the award you deserve,” Terran said giving me a quick kiss on the lips.

Gabriel grabbed my hand and squeezed. I nodded and managed to get to my feet, thankful I was in the second row and didn’t have to walk far. I climbed the stairs, praying I didn’t trip and took the little statue from the presenter.

“Thank you. Really, thank you. This is a big deal for a girl like me. I couldn’t have done it without my loving husband and my best friend, Mandy,” I said waving to her where she sat on the opposite side of Gabriel. He’d been more than happy to be her date so she could attend the show with me. The woman had been absolutely starstruck, barely able to speak two words as she openly stared at the celebrities milling about.

“When I was a little girl, sitting in the tiny two-bedroom house on the very wrong side of the tracks, I used to watch shows like this and think about how I wanted to be up there one day. A lot of people told me I couldn’t. They made my mom feel horrible for not being able to afford expensive headshots and acting lessons. I made it, Mom! I made it, and it was because of the example you set for me. She always said anyone could be anything they wanted to be no matter how much money they had in the bank. She was right. For all those little girls out there, who think they can’t because they don’t have the means, you can. Work hard, stay positive, and you will get there!”

The crowd erupted into applause, bringing a tear to my eye. I blew a kiss and made my way to the side of the stage to pose with the award. I was shaking with excitement and could barely walk.

The entertainment reporter was waiting for me in the small interview area blocked off by curtains. I carefully slid into the chair and smiled.

“Hailey, you burst onto the Hollywood scene this last year. What has it been like for you?”

I laughed nervously. “A whirlwind, really. I was doing the modeling thing one day, and the next, I got the call I had landed this part. I am so grateful to my husband for putting me in touch with Gabriel, my agent. It was like everything fell into place at the exact right time.”

“What is this foundation I’ve heard you are working with?” she asked from the preselected questions Gabriel had given her.

I smiled. “It’s a foundation to help those kids who tend to fall through the cracks in the foster care system. So many kids are on the streets today because there is a shortage of quality foster homes that are capable of dealing with some of the issues kids are facing.”

She smiled and nodded her head. “You were never in the system?”

I shook my head. “No. I had my mother. She raised me by herself, working two jobs to keep a roof over our heads. It wasn’t easy. I hated how much she struggled, but she taught me that life isn’t about how much you have or what your zip code is. She taught me love is more important than anything in this world.”

“Thank you for sitting down with us. Congratulations on your win. What’s your next project?”

I winked and smiled. “There’ll be an announcement about that soon enough,” I said coyly and waved goodbye.

Terran was waiting for me by the exit we had picked out earlier. “All done?” he asked.

“I am. Let’s get out of here. I want to get this dress off,” I groaned, tugging at the Spanx I had over my belly.

“Oh, I could get down with that,” he chuckled.

We climbed into the back of our waiting limo. He offered me a glass of champagne, but I declined, telling him my stomach was too upset for alcohol.

“When we get home, I’ll get a nice warm bath going for you.”

“Thank you. You take such good care of me,” I said, reaching out to cup his cheek.

  “I try.”

I had nearly fallen asleep when the limo came to a stop in front of our house. I climbed out, exhausted, but excited to give Terran his surprise.

“Are you ready for your surprise now?” I asked him.

“Are you sure? We can have a surprise tomorrow night when you’re feeling better,” he said, kissing me on the lips.

I shook my head. “No, I want to give you this. Come on, it’s upstairs,” I said, taking him by the hand and leading him toward our bedroom.

“Is this the naughty schoolgirl outfit? I really liked that one.”

I giggled and blushed at the same time thinking back to the night I had greeted him at the door in an old cheerleading uniform I had picked up at a secondhand store. That had been a very memorable night.

I went into my closet and came back out with a small box. “This is your surprise.”

He looked at the box and grinned. “It’s so tiny. I like tiny. The less, the better,” he said with that sexy grin of his.

I almost felt bad for him. He wouldn’t be too disappointed. Under the dress and the Spanx, I had picked up a little something special to celebrate the evening. That would have to wait until my surprise was properly delivered.

“Open it,” I said, anxious to see his reaction.

He pulled the lid off the box and unwrapped the tissue paper. At first, he looked very confused when he pulled out the tiny pink dress. He dropped the box and held it up as if he was trying to determine if it would fit me.

Then, I saw when he realized what it meant. “No!” he gasped.

  I grinned. “Yes!”

  “What!” he shouted.

I burst into laughter. “Congratulations! You’re going to be a daddy!”

He held up the little dress and then looked back at my belly. “Are you sure?”

I rolled my eyes. “I’m positive. This is the power of a lot of elastic,” I told him, putting a hand over my belly. I did have a small pudge, but I wasn’t ready for the world to know. I had tucked everything in to keep my secret a little while longer.

“I want to see,” he murmured, spinning me around to unzip my dress.

I started laughing. “You know you can’t actually see it, right?”

“Is it a girl?” he asked.

“I don’t know for sure, but I think so. Plus, that dress was so adorable, I had to buy it.”

My dress fell down around my feet. I quickly took off the Spanx, standing before him in the tiny red thong and the matching strapless bra.

He raised an eyebrow, looking at my outfit.

“I was hoping we could celebrate,” I said.

He dropped to his knees, his face going to my belly and softly kissing it. “Hello in there my child.”

My hands dropped to his head, running my fingers through his hair as he spoke softly to our unborn child. When he finally stood in front of me, I smiled. “You’re happy?”

“I’m ecstatic. I have so much reading to do. I didn’t think it would happen this fast. We only just started trying.”

“You’re a virile man, Terran Maddox.”

His chest puffed up, and he strutted around the room, proud as a peacock. “Yes, I am.”

I crawled into our giant four-poster bed and closed my eyes. “I really wanted to celebrate,” I told him.

He crawled up next to me, his hand resting on my belly. “How far are you?”

  “Nine weeks the doctor says.”

“Nine weeks. That only give us thirty-one weeks to prepare.”

“We’ve got plenty of time,” I told him. “Now, I’m suddenly feeling energized. We better take advantage of every minute we have alone. I have a feeling the next twenty years or so are going to be very wild.”

He dropped his mouth to mine, heartily kissing me. “I love you. I love you, and I love our unborn child.”

“I love you too,” I said, kissing him again and reminding him I was wearing a very skimpy piece of nothing. “I’m so glad you decided to marry me for money.”

He laughed and lifted his eyebrow. “Someone deserves a spanking for that.”

I lifted my hand volunteering. “Me. Definitely me.”
