Jinx: Mischief Makers MC: Mother Chapter

I put my phone back in my shirt pocket and grabbed a smoke. I knew that today was only the tip of the iceberg, but it felt good to have a check in the win column. To be able to go home and tell Roxanne that she wasn’t confined any longer and that we could try and live a semi-normal life before things flared up around us again.
Epilogue
Roxanne
One by one, the men trickled in from the raid they had known was coming at any point but hadn’t been able to plan in advance knowing that the guy who put a price on mine and Zeus’ heads was deep in hiding.
Every time the door opened, I jerked up and waited to see if my particular tatted biker was going to be the one walking through the door. So far, he hadn’t, and the longer I waited, the more scared I got.
At this point, my nerves had become contagious because Zeus was pacing looking for Jinx. I was trying to breathe while waiting . People were milling around, and no one seemed to be going anywhere anytime soon. I knew logically that they wouldn’t have just shown up without saying anything if something had happened to their president, but panic and logic rarely go hand in hand.
When the door opened again, and he was the one to cross the threshold, I found that I couldn’t move. Zeus didn’t have the same issues, though. He caught Jinx’s scent or caught sight of him and woofed in greeting. That was when Zeus finally calmed and did his three turns and plopped down with a sigh.
I gave him time. Now that I knew he was safe, I could relax back against the couch and give him time.
Birdie came over and sat next to me. She didn’t say anything for a moment, and then she patted my leg in affection and declared, “You know, you’re great for him, and you’re great for us. You youngsters are making this club really about family again, and it’s a wonderful thing.”
My heart warmed, and I reached a hand out, laid it over hers, and squeezed in affection.
Things weren’t perfect. Not anywhere close to it.
Pops and Maisie were both still in the hospital and wouldn’t be getting out for at least a few days, and Maisie had a long road ahead of her. Mitchey and Nomad were tighter than ever, but she was terrified and still jumped when one of the boys raised his voice or moved in her direction too quickly.
Things were going to heat up again with the cartel. My bikers knew that something like this wouldn’t be the end but rather a shot across the bow.
Looking up and finding Jinx smiling in my direction, I knew without a doubt that every single moment would be worth it in the end. We would get to the other side and look back on this one day and see that this was our beginning. The club would heal, we would protect each other harder than ever, and we would see it through to the other side as a family.
