  Back in the Day

“Come on, Asia, hurry up and choose. Truth or Dare? You know we got to be in the house before the street lights come on,” said Ricky, the neighborhood bully.

“Okay, I will if you would just shut up for a minute.” Asia really didn’t want to choose dare, but she was tired of being teased for always chickening out on her dares.

“Yeah, Ricky, shut up and let Asia think,” Asia's best friend, Natalie, yelled.

All of the neighborhood kids had gathered down the street at the city park to enjoy the last days of beautiful weather, extended play hours, and timeless childhood games. It was 6:41 on a Friday evening, at the end of a long super humid summer. Summer was finally about to come to a close in just a few short weeks, but you couldn’t tell by the cinematic scenes on this block. The sweet, spicy aroma of barbeque lingered in the evening air, and not even a hint of a cloud in the pretty blue sky. Maze, featuring Frankie Beverly, could be heard from miles away. The adults sat on their front porches playing cards, and sipping on fresh squeezed lemonade, while rocking to the beat and keeping an eye out on the children and the neighborhood. This scene on the west side of Detroit, with its slowly setting sun, was picture perfect.

Though this tradition was pretty much obsolete with the children of this generation, it wasn't to the children that lived in the third block of Wisconsin. They knew that if they weren’t home before the street lights on their block illuminated, there would be grave consequences. And most times, you would be able to hear very clearly just what those grave consequences were, as the close knit neighborhood settled down for the night.

“You shut up Nat, ain't nobody even talking to you.”

“Well I'm talking to you, clown,” Natalie said, as her hands flew to her hips.

“Okay, okay, dare, Ricky, I choose dare.”

“Dang, finally.” Ricky shook his head.

“Okay, I dare you to go kiss Tony.”

“What? No!” Panic was now suddenly visible on Asia’s innocent face. She wanted to bolt but knew that she would never live this down, and if she didn't agree to the dare, she would never be included in this game again.

“That's your dare, go kiss Tony, or get ready to get punched ten times in your arm,” Ricky said, pounding his fist into his hand.

  “It's only five times, Ricky.”

“Oh my God, Nat, shut up.”

“Fine, I'll do it,” Asia said, trying to hide her increasing fear.

  “Good, come on everybody.”

All of the other kids, who were playing Truth or Dare, quickly fell in step and headed toward the other side of the park, where Tony and Asia's twin brother Austin had run to the ice cream truck. Tony was laughing, as he stood next to Austin. He bit into the head of his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle ice cream as Asia walked up to him.

“Uh, Tony, I need to tell you something.”

  “Okay, what is it?”

“Yeah, sis, what's so important that you had to interrupt us?” Austin asked.

  “Yeah, cause we were just-”

Asia had quickly leaned over and pressed a small peck to Tony's soft, cool, full lips. Excited Asia stood licking her lips and grinning. She could taste remnants of Tony's ice cream as she proudly took in her victory of no longer being known as the chicken of Truth or Dare. Then, just as quickly, what she'd done hit her like a ton of bricks.

“Ooooo, I'm telling momma on you,” Austin said.

Embarrassment now covered her exotic features, and a single tear escaped her as she broke through the crowd of gawkers and ran all the way home. Natalie took off after her and tried to catch up, but Asia unknowingly left her in her dust. Asia was three houses down from her home, when her mother walked outside with her gardening tools in hand, and began to tend to her lawn. Instantly, panic was visible on her face as she stood in front of her neighbor Ms. Jone's home, and tried to figure out how she was going to get past her mother. She saw her mother began looking around for her gloves, then head into the garage. As soon as her mother disappeared inside, Asia ran with all of her might, and didn't look back, until she was securely behind the locked bathroom door. Asia walked over to the window, as her choppy breathing slowly returned to normal, and looked up into the beautiful soft pink, and purple sunset that had now colored the evening sky. She exhaled as images of her kissing Tony were mentally stuck on repeat. Her eyes then wandered toward the park, and as she watched all the other kids clear out for the night and scramble home, she made a vow to herself that she would never go back to that park and would never play Truth or Dare again.

And I Wish I Was a Kid Again

As soon as the blinking red stop light turned green, Asia turned left at Clairmount at the Lodge, and continued down the service drive until she reached Atkinson Street. After making another left, Asia lowered the blaring volume of Ahmad as he rapped about being a kid again. Slowing her speed, Asia began looking for the address that her mother had rattled off to her, on the ride over, about an hour ago. At the end of the second block of Atkinson, she'd finally spotted the house that she was searching for, it sat rather snug between two, two story homes on the left side of the beautiful tree lined street. Pulling up in front of the cottage style home, Asia cut the engine to her range rover, grabbed her purse and phone, and headed for the front door of Tony's home. She couldn't wait to see the surprised look on her brother's face once he saw her. Asia had only been back home a handful of times, in the last seven years, since moving away to college and making a life for herself. She couldn't wait for them to catch up on each other's lives. They used to be so close, before Asia's hectic schedule, as owner of her own greeting card company, started keeping her extremely busy. And she truly felt horrible for not scheduling more visits home, but back then getting her business off the ground was top priority. She'd even forfeited her chances to start a family. Her ex had asked her to marry him, and he wanted to start a family immediately. But she just wasn't ready to make that kind of commitment so early in her adult life. Now that she was staring thirty in the face, the irony of wanting a family now was not lost on her. And to make matters worse, last she'd heard, her ex was happily married and expecting his third child any day now. Meanwhile she didn't have any potential prospects, and thanks to her most recent blind date from hell, she'd given up on finding love or anything remotely resembling it. As she strutted up the walkway in her red bottoms, she wondered what new adventures awaited on the other side of thirty. If just maybe she'd get another shot at, something she'd found herself fantasying about more and more lately, a second chance at love. Before she had a chance to ring the doorbell, the door flew open.

  “Hi, can I help you?”

Instantly, Asia was speechless, because this man standing before her in hoop shorts, a beater clinging to his broad chest, and perfect six pack, couldn't be Tony. As she continued to take in his features, she also noticed that Tony sported a goatee, and had waves, instead of the shoulder length braids that he swore he would never get rid of. Asia never knew her panties could get as wet as they were right now.

  “Lady, can I-”

  “Tony?” Asia asked.

  “Yeah, and you...Asia? Asia, woman
what in the world are you doing back in Michigan?” Tony laughed, as he pulled Asia into his warm embrace.

“And he smells good too, Lord help me. Note to self, only date men who wear Black, by Kenneth Cole.

“Hi Tony, I came to surprise Austin for our birthday. My mom told me that he was over here trying to tame a wild pre birthday party hangover from last night.”

“Yeah, we were out all night getting in everything we could,” Tony said, as he grabbed Asia’s bag, stepped aside, and motioned for her to enter his home.

“ Yeah, I could just imagine.” Asia laughed.

“But he left my place this morning, said he had some business to take care of and that he'd be back in a few.”

“Oh, okay, we'll do you mind if I wait here for him. I've been searching for him all morning, and I really don't have the energy to drive anywhere else until after I get in a quick catnap.”

“Yeah, of course. You know that you're always welcome here.”

“Oh, wait, do you need to get permission from your girl first?”

“Asia, quit playing and get in here. I'm not dating right now. I’m screwing a few chicks, but nothing serious.” He laughed.

  “Same old Tony I see.”

“Hey, when I find a woman worth changing for, I will.”

  “Touché”

“Come on, let me show you where you can crash.”

“Okay. And again, thanks so much for allowing me to intrude on you.”

“Not a problem. Anytime,” Tony said, as they rounded the corner to his guestroom, and he held the door open for her to walk inside.

“Besides, you have been intruding since I’ve been friends with your brother. So after twenty-five years of friendship I'm used it.” He laughed.

  “Shut up.” Asia smiled.

  “You are so not funny.”

“Oh yeah, well your lips are telling a completely different story.” Tony lingered a little longer than he intended to, and his eyes began to travel the length of Aisa's body, but he quickly caught himself and headed for the door.

“Well, uh, make yourself at home. And call me if you need anything. If you want to shower, towels and washcloths are in the lining closest to your right at the end of the hall. And so are extra pillows if you need them.”

“Alright, thanks again Tony, I really appreciate this. I just need two hours and then I'll be out of your hair.”

“Take all the time you need Asia. Take all the time you need.” Tony winked, then closed the door behind him.

Once Tony was gone, Asia fell back into the softness of the king sized bed, placed her hands over her head, and tried to make sense of the sexual tension she was feeling for Tony. Aside from a kiss during the childhood game of Truth or Dare when they were younger, there had never been anything between them. Though, after practicing celibacy for the last three years, and not because she wanted to, but because she was tired of getting hurt, she'd very much welcomed the familiar stirring between her thighs. After tossing and squirming for about an hour, with images of Tony pleasuring her with his tongue, and then with what she'd imagined to be his long thick dick, Asia jumped up and went in search of Tony. She was still restless but it was for a different reason altogether now. When she found him, Tony was in the den stretched out on the circular sectional watching Scandal.

“Woman, why aren't you resting?” Tony asked, when he noticed a tired, yet very sexy, Asia, standing in the doorway.

  “I can't sleep.”

“Well come on over here and tell me what you've been up to stranger.” Tony sat up and patted the cushion to the right of him.

“Oh, so I'm a stranger now?” Asia laughed, as she sat down with her legs tucked under her just like she'd done as a child.

“Yeah, what else do you call someone whose been MIA for the past seven years?”

“I've been home a few times before now; you were just never here when I came home to visit.”

“A few times in seven years is still not enough, Asia. Your family, and the crew, were missing you like crazy. I see that you’re still selfish. Guess you haven't matured much over the years, huh?” Tony said irritably.

“Whoa, Tony, what in the hell is that suppose to mean? I came home as often as I could, so how dare you judge me. You know what, maybe I should just go,” Asia said, frowning as she jumped up and ran to the guest room.

“Damn it!” Frustrated, Tony ran his hand through his hair then ran after Asia. He knocked on the door before entering the room.

“Guess you don't know that you don't just enter a room without permission,” Asia said, as she slammed her belongings into her tote.

  “Asia, I didn't mean-”

“Tony you have said enough, I don't want to hear anything else you have to say.”

  “Asia-”

“Jackass. And how dare you judge me, you know how much I love my family,” she said, as she slid into her pumps.

“Damn it, Asia, I missed you,” Tony yelled, as he crossed the room, grabbed her bag, and threw it so hard he toppled the lamp on the nightstand.

“I've missed you, Asia, you never came home to me.”

Tony wrapped his arms around Asia's waist, pulled her body close, and rested his forehead against hers.

  “Don't go, please?” he whispered.

  “Tony where is all this-”

Tony pressed his lips against Asia's, just like she had done to him when they were younger. Asia's eyes slid closed as she savored the seriousness of such a gentle kiss. It was just like they were kids all over again with not a care in the world.

“All this is coming from my heart, Asia, the same place it's always been all these years. So will you stay, or do I have to dare you?”

Grinning, Asia wrapped her arms around his neck and rested them on his shoulders then said, “I'll stay, but I only do dares when kissing and such is concerned.”

“Oh, well in that case how about a dirty game of Truth or Dare?” Tony said, as his hands slid down Asia's hourglass frame, until he was palming her ass cheeks, and pulled her flush against his thick growing erection.

  “I say-”

“Yo, Tone, whose range is that parked in the driveway?” Austin said, while closing the front door behind him.

“Shit. Yo brother always did know how to fuck up my vibe.”

“Get out of here, and let me get myself together. Stall Austin until I come out.”

“Okay, but you know we're not finished here right?” Tony said, as he palmed her ass once more.

“Not by a long shot handsome. I'm coming for you.”

“You sure will, repeatedly.” Tony winked, and closed the door behind him.

Asia exhaled, as she checked her appearance in the mirror mounted behind the bedroom door. She felt like she was in high school all over again. Nervous, yet excited. She hadn’t felt this happy in a long time, and couldn't wait to see what the rest of her stay this weekend would bring. Though she was completely shocked by Tony’s admission, and had told herself to stay away from men like him, she’d quickly decided to through caution into the wind, if only for one night. But as she brushed her hair up into a ponytail, she had doubts about pursuing anything with Tony the playboy. The thought loomed like a potential rain cloud heavily over her heart.

“Austin, dude, where you been man? You know we got to go pick up food and shit for the party tonight,” Tony said, as he stood in the doorway of the kitchen.

“Man, I had to go see my freaks, then my aunt had me running errands the rest of the morning. We still good on time though, let's roll out.”

  “Alright but-”

“Wait, whose cold ass range is that outside?”

  “It's mine, Austin.”

Both Austin and Tony turned at the same time to see Asia leaning against the doorway to the kitchen.

  “Happy birthday, Austin.”

“Asia, what in the hell?” Austin smiled, and ran to his twin sister, picked her up and smothered her with kisses.

  “Girl, wh
at are you doing here? When did you get home, and are you back to stay?”

“Dang, Austin, one question at a time.” Asia laughed.

“Man, my baby sister is all grown up. You look just like momma. And happy birthday to you too.” “Thanks brother. I came home to surprise you for our birthday so we could celebrate together like we did when we were younger. Momma told me you were at Tony's, so I came right over, but when I got here, you weren't here. So I asked Tony if I could crash until you got back, cause I was so tired from that long drive. But I'm only here for the weekend.”

“Well I'm happy you’re home, and I wish you would move back cause I'm not good without my twin. And besides, whose going to protect you from the dudes that be all up on you? Tone and I can't whoop ass from another state. Right Tone?”

“Absolutely.” Tony's eyes met Asia's briefly, as if to say let's keep what just happened between us top secret for now.

“Austin, I can take care of myself just fine.” Asia smiled.

“Whatever girl. We bout to roll out. Call me when you get rested, so you can meet up with us, and the crew, before the party.”

“I'll call you, but I'm getting ready to head out myself. I came straight here to see you first, and you know mom is not happy about that. So I'm about to push it to the limit to see her and daddy before she forgets I'm grown and tries to ground me.”

“Yeah, you better move it then.” Austin laughed.

  “Alright, I'll see ya later.”

  “Okay, love you, Austin.”

  “Love you too, Asia.”

You don't love her more than I do, Tony thought, as he watched Asia back out and head for the Lodge freeway.

  Truth or Dare

After the emotional and heartfelt visit with her parents, Asia dressed and headed over to Austin's. The birthday party was in full swing, and showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Asia finally managed to get past all the people on the front lawn, and porch, who were reminiscing and shooting the breeze. She walked into her brother's home and was instantly transported back in time to the mid-nineties. Asia couldn't believe that someone had taken the time out to throw her and her brother a 90's throwback party complete with 90's paraphernalia. As she wandered through the house party, to find her brother, she was amazed at how many people actually participated in the throwback theme. Asia saw everything from bamboo earrings and dookie braids to gold chains, Filas, hush puppies and Cross Colours jackets. Posters of Jodeci, TLC, H-Town, and a host of other hot popular 90's artists graced the walls from the living room to the basement. A huge spread of food covered just about every surface in the house. Yo MTV raps was playing on the 50 inch in the living room, and House Party was set on repeat in the den.
